DENVER — Nickelback announced a new concert tour Monday morning.

The Canadian rock band will bring the "Get Rollin’ Tour" to 38 cities this summer, including Denver's Ball Arena on Tuesday, July 18.

Country rocker Brantley Gilbert will join the cross-country tour on all non-festival dates, along with country artist Josh Ross.

Tickets go on sale starting Friday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. at livenation.com . Fans can also purchase VIP Packages at vipnation.com .

"Get Rollin’," Nickelback’s first album in five years, was released Nov. 18, 2022.

Nickelback will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the JUNO Awards on March 13, 2023.

Nickelback Shake the Rust Off at First U.S. Show in Three Years

The band premiered two new tracks on the release day of their new album

Last night at the legendary Starland Ballroom in New Jersey, hard rock hitmakers Nickelback took the stage for their first U.S. show in three years. Ironically, their last American outing was just a little bit south down the Garden State Parkway at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City in August of 2019. With a brand new album fresh off the presses, Nickelback are trading arenas for clubs to shake the rust off before they hit the road again for real.

Local rockers Reality Suite opened the show. They were hand-picked to serve as special guests by Nickelback themselves. The group kicked things off with “Wingman,” and proceed to drop other notable tracks like “Bury Me Alive,” “Cut, Burn, Bruise,” and “Triggers,” among others. Another highlight was a fierce cover of Blondie’s 1980 chart-topper “Call Me.” To wrap things up, they appealed to their Jersey audience by putting their own spin on a snippet of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” before busting out their biggest hit “Kiss The Ring.”

Nickelback strolled onto the stage and launched right into their new banger “San Quentin” from their latest LP. The energy in the room was palpable. The night was extra special, since it was the actual release day of their all-new tenth studio album. Leading off with the record’s lead single seemed like the most ceremonious way to start the set.

From there, they immediately went deep back into their discography with their melancholy hit “Savin’ Me.”

Early in the set, frontman Chad Kroeger spotted a sign in the crowd that read, “This is my first Nickelback show and I’d love a guitar pick.”

“Oh, we got a virgin,” Kroeger yelled with a chuckle. He immediately handed one of his picks to a fan in the front row, and with a little bit of teamwork, it was passed all the way back to the young fan wielding the sign. Then, Kroeger tossed a huge handful of picks into the crowd.

It was great to see a massive arena band just having fun in a small club like the old days.

The set was a more mild one musically for the band. In addition to “Photograph,” the band also played “Someday,” “Far Away,” “When We Stand Together,” and “Gotta Be Somebody,” among others. The other new track they played was “Those Days,” a nostalgic song in the same vein as past hits “Photograph” and “This Afternoon.” The evening’s heavier cuts included “San Quentin,” “Animals,” and “Figured You Out.”

No material was pulled from their last two outings – 2014’s No Fixed Address and 2017’s Feed The Machine . The album that got the most play was the band’s 2005 diamond-certified All the Right Reasons . The rest of the songs in the setlist were sprinkled in evenly from five other records.

Overall, there was much rust to shake off. Nickelback have always been one of rock music’s sharper acts. While they are dusting themselves off on this club run, it seems to be more about getting back to their roots rather than fine-tuning their skills after a three-year hiatus. It will be great to see them back on a bigger stage next year with a large production, and maybe even some pyro.

Make no mistake, though – whether it’s a small club or a huge arena, Nickelback put on one hell of a show.

At the end of the set, the band went all the way back to their 2001 breakout Silver Side Up , performing the album’s anchor “How You Remind Me.” Then the band turned up the intensity one more time, closing things out with the fist-pumping rager “Burn It To The Ground.” It was a great way to end the show, and certainly left fans hoping for a more even mix with heavier tunes on their impending full tour next year.

Nickelback have one more outing scheduled for this year at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT. When their warm-up is over, we can expect a much larger tour announcement probably in January or February. The band’s tenth studio album Get Rollin’  is now  HERE via CD, deluxe CD, orange vinyl, limited edition D2C exclusive blue marble vinyl, and digital download.

It’s been over five years since Nickelback released a new album, but one of Canada’s biggest rock exports has finally returned with Get Rollin’ — and its ’70s-styled album cover with a beach-bound van and spray-painted title certainly belies the classic-rock touches within the grooves.

Brothers Chad and Mike Kroeger (frontman-guitarist and bassist, respectively) sat down with Billboard to discuss Get Rollin’ , their maturation through the years, unexpected cover songs and a forthcoming band documentary. Chad also has recently been correcting the perpetual mispronunciation of the siblings’ last name — it actually sounds like “Kruger.” (A different gaffe regarding the band generated some lighthearted headlines earlier this year.)

Some songs here indicate a bit of heartache, like “Tidal Wave” and “Standing in the Dark,” and then “Steel Still Rusts” and “Horizon” give the vibe of searching for something and feeling displaced. Are these related to people whom you know?

Was “Steel Still Rusts” inspired by a specific person that you know?

Chad Yeah, 100%. Our first bodyguard. Him telling us these stories about being in conflict overseas and missing the birth of his children and all of these different things. Some really, really unpleasant things that would keep you up at night. Then, coming back, he remembers standing on the corner — I think he was in San Diego — and he looked down and still had sand from the desert on his boots. He was still wearing his fatigues. He said just looking over to Starbucks and then looking down at what you just brought back from a war zone that’s still on your feet is a little bizarre.

It was the stories that he would tell me … and [him not getting] the best treatment when he got home. And I’m not talking about Vietnam, but just trying to get help from [Veterans Affairs]. Just a ton of nightmarish stuff … It was eye-opening and jaw-dropping at the same time.

Mike Kroeger You did a really, really good job with that song, Chad. The lyrics and the way you wrote that — it still gets me every time I listen to it, really. Honestly, it’s a real gut punch for me because I know the guy, I know that story, and you put it so well.

Chad Thank you.

The band wrote a lot more party-hearty and decadent songs back in the day, and that has diminished over time. In the setlist now are fewer songs concerned with sex, and more songs like these new tracks we’re discussing. Was this a conscious choice?

But yeah, you get to a certain age where … I’m 47 years old, and there’s certain things that you just don’t want to see a 47-year-old dude sing onstage. So the subject matter has definitely changed. There’s moments where I look over at [guitarist] Ryan [Peake] when he has to harmonize with certain lines. He’s got a daughter, and I just watch him squirm. He gets so squeamish when he has to sing some of this stuff, and I just think it’s so funny.

You did a shredding cover of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” in 2020 with guitarist Dave Martone, and last year, you collaborated on a sea shanty rendition of “Rockstar,” complete with a sailor-inspired TikTok clip. Who was doing what drugs when you came up with these ideas?

Mike ( Laughs .)

Chad The shanty thing came through our band assistant, Brad, and he found these guys called The Lottery Winners on TikTok. I think it was just the guitar player initially. … Brad’s like, “Dude, we have to reach out to this guy and just say, ‘Would you be interested in doing this with all of us?’ And really lean into this and have some fun with it.”

Mike “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” we had sitting around as an idea for a while that didn’t get fully finished and was just waiting in the wings. When we decided to go for it, before we moved forward with it, we reached out to Charlie Daniels himself to send him the rough idea to hear it and get his approval. And he actually did approve of it. He heard it and said he liked it. He was alive when we did it, and he passed [in 2020] before we released it, so he didn’t get to hear the final version of it, unfortunately.

Mike, your family moved from Hawaii to Los Angeles before the pandemic. Your son wants to make music . What was it like to make that transition?

Mike At first, I was kind of curious how it was going to go. Because when we lived in Canada, we lived in the country, way out in a place not unlike Chad’s place. It was not a short drive to everything. You’re apart from everything. Then when we moved to Hawaii, we lived in out-of-the-way country places, too. So, moving to the Hollywood Hills, I was bracing for some kind of culture shock because it is Hollywood. It’s still weird to say that I live here.

Yesterday when I walked my dog, I saw a deer from my house, so it’s not exactly the concrete jungle. We got coyotes, we got deer, we got owls. We got all that stuff here. I think it’s awesome. We’re in this little pocket of nature that’s really nice, and we can just shut the door and hide out here, and if we want to see what the big, scary world looks like, we go out there.

The band has been working on a documentary for a few years. How is it going to differ from what we’ve seen from you in interviews and onstage? What types of revelations can we expect?

Mike The house that we didn’t grow up in. ( Laughs .)

Chad Yeah, that I was rarely at. I think I left when I was 14 and moved out for a while. But we go back to our hometown [of Hanna], and then we play a gig there, and we filmed it. But it’s with our old singer, Scott [Holman], and then we got up and played like three songs. It wasn’t really supposed to be about us playing Nickelback songs. It was about us being back in the old iteration of the band in the early ’90s. We just had a camera crew follow us for about four and a half years and film all kinds of stuff. I think they did a really good job.

Mike There’s some really cool moments of frankness in there that you’re not going to get in this interview. ( Group laughter .) I’m sorry.

After being in this band and living this life since 1995, is there any major life lesson you can impart to fans? Any motto you have?

Mike If I can be indulged to speak on behalf of Nickelback here, I think the motto is that the experience that we’ve had, our best move was just to never stop. The thing we did that I think has brought us to this point is that we just didn’t quit on ourselves, and I think that’s something that a lot of people do. They give up on themselves and quit on themselves. I don’t know if our fans just started to like our music or if they just gave up because we just kept pounding until they were going to like it.

Chad You’re going to like us, goddamn it! Whether you like it or not, you’re going to like us!

Mike One thing they call it in Canada is stick-to-itiveness — just keep staying on the path, keeping your eyes down range, and don’t stop moving forward.

Nickelback have announced a handful of 2022 tour dates. The band will be playing a handful of intimate club shows as they ramp up support of their forthcoming album Get Rollin’ which arrives on November 18 via BMG. The special “One Night Only” run kicks off on November 15 at HISTORY in Toronto, ON. The band will also headline 95.9 WRAT’s Nutcracker Ball at the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. Lottery Winners are the working-class underdog story of the year. Their fifth studio album, Anxiety Replacement Therapy, was released on 28 April 2023 and debuted at number 1 in the UK, topping the Official UK Album Charts. It was the 5th highest selling first week album of the year, selling more copies in the UK than U2 and Miley Cyrus. The album has received worldwide critical acclaim and has connected with people in a special way.

The album tackles mental illness and ADHD in a biographical, chronological story of personal redemption. Songs like ‘Letter to Myself’, a song written to 12 year old Thom after getting expelled from school and feeling like a misfit, to tell him that everything is going to work out. ‘Worry’, ‘Long Way Down’ and ‘Sertraline’, a love song about an antidepressant, also mark the more troubling parts of the record. St. Petersburg – a Historical Gem

St Petersburg is a spectacular city regardless of the time of year, it all depends on your itinerary. Is it safe to walk around St Petersburg, Russia?

During White Nights there are nearly 24 hours of sunlight, meaning that you’ll never venture anywhere in the dark. Do they speak English in St. Petersburg?

St Petersburg is Russia’s most western-leaning city and staff in city centre restaurants, hotels, shops and attractions can generally accommodate English speaking tourists. There are also English-speaking tourist police. The metro and bus service maps have English translations, and intercom announcements are also made in English. If you’d prefer to travel by taxi, the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber) works in multiple languages, although it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. Younger Russians are more likely to speak basic English than older Russians, but Google Translate is useful if you get completely stuck.
