2024 Western Caribbean Cruise Highlights
A substantial number of Western Caribbean cruises on Norwegian include a visit to Harvest Caye, Belize. This 75-acre island sanctuary in Southern Belize is brimming with island adventures, or you can book a shore excursion to the mainland. Unwind in the vast pool equipped with a swim-up bar, rent a private cabana, experience zip lining, and more. Mainland excursions might include rainforest river tubing or a visit to a Maya temple.
Roatán, about 30 miles off the Honduran mainland, is a haven for scuba divers due to its crystal-clear waters. Discover the vibrant marine life and some of The Caribbean's finest pillar coral. Opt for a Discover Scuba experience or snorkeling if you're not certified. Or, perhaps you'd prefer lounging at one of the serene beach resorts, bathing in the tranquil turquoise waters.
Some Western Caribbean cruises include a stop in George Town, Grand Cayman. This island is the largest of the Cayman Islands and is renowned for its excellent dive sites, shipwrecks , Seven Mile Beach, and Stingray City. Don't miss the Cayman Turtle Farm , hosting over 8,000 green sea turtles, or a taste of Caybrew, the local beer.
2024 Southern Caribbean Cruise Highlights
The Southern Caribbean is famous for world-class diving, duty-free shopping, a rich cultural atmosphere, and mouth-watering local cuisine.
Your Southern Caribbean cruise might include a stop in Oranjestad, Aruba. Even without diving certification, you can embark on remarkable water adventures. Consider a catamaran tour to snorkel the famous Antilla shipwreck . Another option is DePalm Island for snorkeling , sunbathing, or enjoying the water park. If you'd rather stay dry, an Atlantis Submarine tour offers a view of tropical fish, coral, and sponge gardens.
In Curaçao , allow yourself time to explore Wilemstad's colorful Dutch-style buildings. If you're of age, sample the island's famous liqueur. Curaçao is made with the dried peel from the local bitter orange, laraha.
Another intriguing Caribbean destination is St. Kitts. Founded by the French in 1627, it carries a British ambiance. Basseterre, one of the Eastern Caribbean's oldest towns, is nestled at La Grande Soufriere's base, the Lesser Antilles's tallest mountain. St. Kitts is brimming with adventure, from deep-sea fishing and diving to snorkeling. Consider a leisurely train ride around the island, soaking up the views.
2024 Eastern Caribbean Cruise Highlights
The Eastern Caribbean is a wonderful choice throughout the year, though December through April is particularly popular, providing a respite from winter temperatures. Regardless of the season, you'll find a wealth of activities.
Many of Norwegian's Eastern Caribbean cruises stop at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas — our private island. Indulge in a day filled with fun activities on Great Stirrup Cay, or unwind in your own private cabana or villa (additional fees).

If your cruise stops in St. Lucia, visit the iconic Pitons . You can book a tour to La Soufriere Volcano , where you'll take a scenic rainforest drive to reach the breathtaking mountains. They rise more than 2,500 feet and tower over the area. Should you have a port day in Barbados, spend part of your day swimming with turtles in a calm, secluded bay. You can also head to Welchman Hall Gully and the beach and stopping at Batts Rock known for its green monkeys!
Your cruise might also dock in the U.S., the British Virgin Islands, or perhaps both! St. Thomas , a well-loved Caribbean port, is renowned for its fishing, diving, stunning beaches, and fantastic duty-free shopping. Consider booking a catamaran sailing adventure to snorkel a shipwreck and relax on the sea.

You only have one chance to sail this brand-new cruise ship in the Caribbean
Sun-seekers, meet Star Seeker. One of the cruise industry's most anticipated new high-end ships is set to debut at the end of next year, and you'll only have one chance to catch it in the Caribbean.
Windstar Cruises ' Star Seeker — a new 224-passenger vessel that's the line's first new-build in nearly 40 years — will begin sailing in December 2025. Its primary focus will be voyages in Alaska and Japan — two regions where Windstar hasn't had a presence since 2023. Before the ship permanently relocates to those two regions, it will offer a brief series of cruises in the Caribbean, providing passengers an exclusive three-month window to try out the ship in more beachy destinations.
For a short period from Jan. 15, 2026, through the end of April 2026, Star Seeker has scheduled a mix of Caribbean itineraries. These can either be booked as Caribbean-only segments or as longer voyages that combine three regions — the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and Alaska — for a more distinct experience.
"I'm really excited we'll be able to sail the new Star Seeker in the Caribbean before the ship continues on to its final destinations of Alaska and Japan," Christopher Prelog, Windstar president, said in a statement from the line. "Star Seeker will likely not return to the Caribbean again, so it's a wonderful but fleeting chance for our Caribbean destination fans to experience the ship."
Prelog said passengers on select Caribbean sailings aboard the new vessel will also have access to exclusive celebratory experiences. This includes a sunset sailing parade past the pitons in St. Lucia after Star Seeker meets up in the region with sister ships Wind Spirit and Star Pride.
The Caribbean sailings will range from seven to 14 days. They will depart from San Juan, Puerto Rico, visiting ports of call in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, as well as St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Bequia, St. Lucia and more.
From May through August 2026, the ship will remain in Alaska after its final Caribbean-to-Alaska voyage. From there, it will run two main types of itineraries. The seven- and eight-night one-way runs between Vancouver, Canada, and Juneau, Alaska, including Misty Fjords, Ketchikan, Sitka and Haines. The longer 10-, 11- and 12-night voyages between Vancouver and Anchorage will stop at Ketchikan, Misty Fjords, Klawock, Wrangell, Haines, Juneau, Sitka and Seward (the port for Anchorage).
In September 2026, the vessel will cross the Pacific Ocean and relocate to Japan to resume Windstar's popular Grand Japan voyages for the first time in three years. Guests booked on these itineraries can expect to travel between Yokohama (the port for Tokyo) and either Osaka or Kobe with calls on ports like Shimizu, Shingu, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Karatsu, Hiroshima and Takamatsu.
Although Windstar's ships feel upscale, the niche small-ship line's fares are not all-inclusive. You'll pay extra for things like alcohol, shore excursions and Wi-Fi. What you can expect, though, is an intimate onboard vibe with great service, delicious food and elegantly appointed accommodations.
In addition to Star Seeker, the line operates a fleet of six other vessels . They fall into two categories: ships with sails and ships without them. Currently, the line has three of each. When Star Seeker debuts as the fleet's seventh ship (the fourth without sails), it will fall somewhere in the middle in terms of passenger count. The others carry anywhere from 148 to 342 passengers. Windstar plans to acquire an eighth ship, also with no sails, in 2026.
Star Seeker was originally under construction for Atlas Ocean Voyages . Windstar purchased the partially completed ship after Atlas abandoned the project.
The maiden voyage for 9,315-ton Star Seeker will depart Dec. 28, 2025, from Malaga, Spain, featuring a transatlantic crossing and a call on Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands for a New Year's Eve party before arriving in Miami. An eight-day christening voyage will take passengers from Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Jan. 15, 2026; it will include visits to ports in the Dominican Republic and British Virgin Islands.
Star Seeker itineraries are currently available for booking.

Royal Caribbean Adds Visits to Cabo Rojo, Dominican Republic
- September 12, 2024
Royal Caribbean International is adding visits to Cabo Rojo, Dominican Republic, starting in October 2024.
According to several statements sent to booked guests, different company ships are set to add the new destination to their itineraries in the Caribbean.
“To provide you with the best experience, we’ve added a brand-new port to our itinerary,” the company said in one of the notices sent to guests.
“You and your travel party will be the first to experience this beautiful destination, and we’re excited to sail with you,” Royal Caribbean added.
The first ship to visit the destination will be the Adventure of the Seas, which is set to make the company’s first-ever call in Cabo Rojo on October 16, 2024.
Sailing from Port Canaveral, the 3,340-guest ship will sail to the port as part of an eight-night cruise to the Southern Caribbean and the Bahamas.
In addition to Cabo Rojo, the itinerary also features visits to Aruba, Curaçao and Perfect Day at CocoCay.
To add the visit to the new cruise port, Royal Caribbean reduced the port times for the planned visit to Curaçao, which will now take place between 7 AM and 4 PM.
The company also described Cabo Rojo as a destination with “beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, and preserved coral reefs.”
Starting in May 2025, the Adventure of the Seas will be joined by the Oasis of the Seas in making regular visits to the new port.
With a visit from the Norwegian Pearl, Cabo Rojo welcomed its first-ever cruise ship on January 7, 2024 .
Developed by the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), the new cruise port features a 200-meter dock and a mooring knot and can accommodate multiple ships simultaneously.
The newly built port is also scheduled to receive ships from Holland America Line, Costa Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and MSC Cruises in 2025.

12-year-old boy dies in balcony fall on Royal Caribbean cruise ship. What we know
A 12-year-old boy died Saturday after falling from the balcony of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship en route to Galveston, Texas after a week-long cruise.
The tragedy occurred a few years after 16-year-old Laurent Mercer plunged to his death from a balcony onto a pier on the same ship when Harmony of the Seas was still sailing out of Port Canaveral. He was reportedly trying to climb into his room because he forgot his room key. The cruise ship moved to Galveston in 2023 .
Last year, a 16-year-old boy fell from the balcony of a different Royal Caribbean ship, the Allure of the Seas, and died at a hospital.
The child who died Sept. 7 has not been identified. People.com reported that he landed in the ship's "Central Park" area of the ship, where many of the bars, restaurants and shops can be found. The Washington Post reported that the FBI is investigating the death.
"We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our guests," Royal Caribbean said in a statement to Newsweek . "Our Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share."
In 2022, Harmony of the Seas made national news after it veered into the exclusion zone of a Falcon 9 rocket's flightpath just before the launch at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, forcing the mission's fourth scrub in a row.
Man overboard! How easy is it to fall overboard on a cruise ship, and how can you survive?
Second boy to die from balcony fall on Harmony of the Seas
Mercer, 15, from the French island collectivity Wallis and Futuna, had been on a seven-day Caribbean trip with his family on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, when he apparently tried to get into his eighth-floor room from an adjacent balcony, The ship was docked at Labadee, Haiti, where the company owns a private beach.
The Broward Medical Examiner's Office announced Mercer's death a few days later after the ship returned to Port Everglades
How easy is it to fall off the balcony of a cruise ship?
It's not easy at all.
All ships have "safety barriers that are regulated by U.S. Coast Guard standards and prevent a guest from falling off," according to Carnival spokesperson Matt Lupoli in 2023. Every open deck and balcony is required to have railings "not less than 42 inches from above the cabin deck," according to the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act of 2010 (CVSSA), with thick metal or Plexiglas panels underneath to prevent anyone from slipping through.
That's usually about chest height for the average person.
What is Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas?
The Harmony of the Seas was once the largest cruise ship in the world before it was surpassed by newer ships, and runs regular 6-8 night Western Caribbean cruises to Cozumel, Costa Mata and Roatán out of Galveston. There are water slides, pools, a zip line, 20 different restaurants, Broadway shows and more.
- The ship was built in France and launched in May 2016
- 1,188 feet long, 215.5 feet wide
- 2,747 staterooms that can hold (at double occupancy) 6,687 guests
- 18 total decks
- 3 water slides, 3 swimming pools
- 20 dining venues, 1,400-seat theatre
