What Is Cruise Main Honda

Cruise Main in Honda vehicles is part of the cruise control system. It’s activated by a button on the steering wheel. Once pressed, a light labeled “CRUISE MAIN” lights up on the dashboard.

To actually set the speed, we need to use another button. Once everything is set, we can enjoy a smoother drive without constantly pressing the gas pedal.

This feature is super helpful for long trips. It helps reduce fatigue and makes driving a bit more comfortable. We’ve seen it in many Honda models like the Civic, Accord, and CRV.

Honda has also introduced Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) in some models. This system uses radar and a camera to maintain a safe distance from the car in front. It’s a step up from the traditional cruise control.

This feature, found in Honda Sensing, includes other driver-assistance systems like Lane Keeping Assist and Low-Speed Follow. These features make driving safer and more convenient by providing additional support and reducing driver workload.

Cruise Main is an essential part of our driving experience, especially on long journeys. With these advances, driving our Honda has never been more enjoyable and stress-free.

Benefits of Cruise Main Honda

Using Cruise Main feature in Honda vehicles brings several advantages, especially on long drives and road trips.

Consistent Speed 🏁

Cruise Main helps us maintain a steady speed without constantly pressing the accelerator pedal. This makes for a smooth, comfortable ride, especially on open, clear, and long stretches of road.

Fuel Efficiency ⛽

Keeping a constant speed means less gas-wasting acceleration . Over time, this improves our fuel economy and gas mileage , making our drives more economical.

Reduced Fatigue 😴

Long drives can be tiring. Cruise control allows us to relax a bit and focus more on steering rather than our foot’s pressure on the pedal. It’s a small relief but adds up over hours in the car.

Avoiding Speeding Tickets 🚨

By setting a consistent speed, we can avoid accidental speeding. This reduces the risk of getting speeding tickets, helping us drive more safely and legally.

Enhanced Safety Tips ⚠️

Cruise Main aids in maintaining a safe following distance from other vehicles. This can reduce the chances of collisions arising from sudden accelerations or decelerations.

Comfort 🌡️

Driving at a consistent speed without constantly adjusting helps in reducing distractions. We can keep our hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, enhancing overall comfort and safety.

Using Cruise Main makes driving on wide, open, and straight highways a breeze. The feature ensures that we enjoy a comfortable, fuel-efficient, and safe journey every time.

How Cruise Main Honda Works

Cruise Main in Honda cars helps drivers maintain a set speed without using the accelerator pedal. This feature is handy during long highway drives, allowing users to relax and focus more on steering and the road ahead.

Activation Process

To activate the Cruise Main system, we start by pressing the cruise control master button found on the steering wheel. This action will light up the “CRUISE MAIN” indicator on the instrument panel. Once this light is on, we accelerate to our desired speed, usually above 25 MPH.

After reaching the desired speed, we press the “SET” button. Now, the car will maintain this speed without our foot on the gas pedal. To increase speed, press the “RES/ACCEL” button, and to decrease, use the “SET/–” button.

This makes long drives smoother and less tiring by reducing the need to constantly manipulate the throttle.

Deactivation Process

To deactivate the Cruise Main, we have several options. The easiest way is simply tapping the brake pedal. This action immediately disengages the cruise control and returns control back to the driver.

Another way is by pressing the “CANCEL” button found on the steering wheel. If we need to switch off the cruise control system entirely, we press the cruise control master button again, which turns off the “CRUISE MAIN” light on the dashboard.

These deactivation methods ensure we can quickly regain full control, especially if sudden braking or deceleration is needed.

Maintaining Speed

Once the Cruise Main is set, the system takes over the throttle to maintain the predetermined speed. Adjustments can be made using the steering-wheel-mounted buttons to either increase or decrease speed seamlessly. When encountering slower traffic, we can cancel cruise control to decelerate or brake.

This function is excellent for open highways where maintaining a steady speed without constant pedal adjustments is advantageous. The electronic throttle helps in adjusting the throttle position smoothly, ensuring that speed changes are as precise and comfortable as possible.

Keep in mind that certain features, like automatic distance-keeping, might not be available on all models. Therefore, monitoring road conditions and traffic is still crucial.

Common Issues With Cruise Main Honda

We’ll examine common problems with the Cruise Main system in Honda vehicles. Issues often include the cruise main light and brake pedal sensor malfunctions.

Troubleshooting Tips

First, check the cruise main light . This light turns on to show that the system is ready, but issues can make it flicker or stay off. Problems with wires or a bad bulb connection can cause this.

Next, verify the brake pedal switch . If it’s out of place, it might deactivate the cruise control. Look at the brake lights; if they flicker, the switch may need adjusting. 🌡️

Third, inspect your windshield and other electrical components. Sometimes, weather like heavy rain or snow can mess with the car’s sensors. Clear any snow or dirt from essential areas.

When to Seek Professional Help

If these steps don’t work, it’s time to consult a technician. If the cruise main light stays off, despite checking connections and switches, there could be a deeper electrical issue.

High traffic volume or frequent driving in slippery and wet roads can wear down systems more rapidly. Heavy usage or inclement weather conditions may require inspections more frequently.

Another scenario is driving on mountains and curvy roads . The system might struggle, indicating it needs recalibration or repair. Don’t ignore the signs! If the system acts up in critical situations, it’s safer to let the pros handle it. 🚗🔧

Can cruise control reduce fuel use?

Yes, generally speaking. Due to its capacity to maintain a constant pace, cruise control can help you become more fuel-efficient and can help you save on gas on average by 7–14%. In contrast, the constant acceleration and deceleration caused by the driver’s foot on the pedals might use up more gas.

How do you disable the Honda’s cruise control?

The system is turned off and the previous cruising speed is deleted when the Cruise Control Master Button is pressed. Any of the following methods work to turn off cruise control: Press the clutch or brake pedal. On the wheel, press the CANCEL button.

What does “ACC” in a Honda CRV mean?

For greater comfort on the highway, adaptive cruise control (ACC) modifies the vehicle speed and the following distance to the car detected ahead. Additionally, Low-Speed Follow on CVT versions makes it simpler to navigate stop-and-go traffic. 13

The Aspect:

The driver can specify a preferred speed using Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), much like with a traditional cruise-control system. However, ACC goes a step further by enabling the driver to select a desired speed and the distance to follow a vehicle that is identified in front of them.

  • If the driver simply presses the accelerator or the cruise-control toggle switch toward RES/+ or -/SET, the Civic will resume going up to the ACC system’s previously set speed.
  • To maintain the chosen following interval, ACC then adjusts the throttle and, if necessary, moderately brakes the vehicle.
  • The Civic may stop on its own if the previously identified car slows down or stops altogether.
  • The driver is prompted to choose a short, medium, or long distance to follow the car that has been spotted in front of them when using adaptive cruise control.
  • Even more functionality is added by Low-Speed Follow.

What does the Honda steering wheel’s primary button do?

With cruise control, you can drive beyond 25 mph (40 km/h) without pressing the accelerator pedal all the time. For cruising on wide, open, and straight highways.

Is it acceptable to always utilize the cruise control?

Cruise control is not intended to be utilized every time you are behind the wheel, even while it offers advantages and is more common than ever in cars today. If you use it improperly, you risk endangering yourself or others on the road. To ensure that you always sail securely, we at Diamond Glass have put together the following advice.

In dangerous weather, never use the cruise control.

If you plan to drive on slick or icy roads, you should avoid using a feature that will keep your car moving at a specific pace until it is deactivated. Even if you believe the roads in the area where you are traveling are in good condition, it may be better to avoid using cruise control if bad weather is predicted.

Don’t go faster than the speed limit.

It is exceedingly risky to set your cruise control for a speed that is higher than the speed limit permitted in your region. The typical interstate speed limit is from 55 to 70 miles per hour. Simply because it is safer and there won’t be any traffic violations, this range is advised when utilizing this feature.

Learn how to use the controls and what they do.

Even though cruise control may seem like a standard function, different automobile makes and models may have distinct controls. It doesn’t follow that a function will operate the same way in every car just because you are accustomed with it in one. To prevent any serious mishaps, take the time to become familiar with the controls in a secure area before you travel on the highway.

Avoid using the feature when there is a lot of traffic.

If you’ve never used cruise control before, avoid using it during rush hour or in other situations where there is a lot of stop-and-go traffic. The function is useful for long routes with minimal stops, but it’s not a good choice if you frequently slam on the brakes at intersections.

Be focused and aware.

You still need to be aware and concentrated even if the purpose of cruise control is to let the driver unwind and let their foot off the gas pedal for a bit. When you are fatigued or have been driving for a while, you shouldn’t utilize the feature. Additionally, you might want to completely avoid utilizing the feature if you frequently experience driving tiredness.

When is cruise control inappropriate to use?

In particular for lengthy drives and interstate travel, cruise control can be useful. In light of this, learning the cruise do’s and don’ts is a crucial aspect of driving that you shouldn’t skip.

When you SHOULD use cruise control

  • When there is little to no traffic, use the cruise control. Enjoy the clean roads while maintaining a steady speed with cruise control.
  • On extended drives, when fatigue is more prone to set in, feel free to activate cruise control. When you’re driving for a long time, you don’t want to completely unwind, but it’s alright to occasionally give your muscles a respite. Cruise is a fantastic feature that, when utilized wisely, may lessen the strain of extended driving periods.
  • When the speed limit remains constant for extended periods of time, just utilize the cruise control. To avoid receiving a ticket, just remember to turn it off and reduce your speed when the speed limit changes.

When you SHOULDN’T use cruise control

  • Avoid using cruise control on wet or icy roads or while it is pouring or snowing. It’s preferable to be completely in charge of your car when driving in these conditions, even if some newer vehicles include systems that help your car handle slick roads and rain even when cruise is on.
  • Cruise should not be used if you are tired. In the first place, it is not a good idea to drive while fatigued. However, you must be as attentive as you can if you must drive with little sleep. Turn off Cruise when you begin to drowse because it tends to promote “passive driving.”
  • When driving in town, where there is a lot of stopping and starting, avoid using cruise control. Giving yourself one more item to remember when you’re changing lanes or slowing down for a yellow light makes no sense.

When used properly, cruise control can make driving easier and maintain a constant speed. Before pressing the cruise button, use caution so you can take advantage of its convenience guilt-free!

How do I operate the HRV’s cruise mode?

To set the speed, depress the pedal and hit the -/SET button. The indicator for cruise control appears. To accelerate or slow down, press the RES/+ or -/SET buttons, respectively.

Can Adaptive Cruise Control be disabled?

You can: Press the brake pedal to turn off adaptive cruise control. Select CANCEL from the menu. Press the ON/OFF button for the cruise control.

On a CRV 2021, how do you activate cruise control?

Honda Sensing Adaptive Cruise Control How-To Manual

  • On the steering wheel, depress the MAIN button.
  • When you have the speed set correctly, press the SET/- button.
  • To change the speed by 1 MPH, use the RES/+ and SET/- Buttons.
  • To change the speed by 5 MPH, press and hold the RES/+ and SET/- buttons simultaneously.

Are There Any Benefits Of Using Cruise Main?

If you have never owned a vehicle with this feature, you might be wondering whether there are any benefits to having this in your car. However, there are numerous benefits for those that are driving long roads.

1. Saves Fuel

One of the main reasons for keeping cruise control activated is the potential to save some fuel . If you are constantly driving at the same speed, the engine will use the same levels of fuel. Now that you can adjust this cruising speed, you can easily determine how much fuel is being used and you can adjust the cruising speed on the steering wheel.

2. Retain Constant Speed (Relax)

It can be draining and tiresome to drive on long open roads, especially when the road is constantly straight and you are tired. Many people have fallen asleep when driving their vehicles on long open and boring roads . Cruise control allows you to have the car drive automatically at a certain speed and you can relax. However, I still don’t recommend falling asleep.

With the numerous safety features of modern vehicles, you can easily rely on the sensors located at the front and sides of the vehicles to sound an alarm or even activate the emergency brake when needed. Cruise control is one way that drivers can relax while they are driving on the open road to a specific destination.

3. Avoid Speeding Tickets

Nothing is more frustrating than getting home after a long trip, only to find a few traffic violations in the mailbox. Speeding is easy with quiet modern vehicles and you can easily go over the speed limit and incur a fine. Cruise control has precision accuracy, which is designed to keep your car going at the same cruising speed for the duration of the trip.

Cruise Control Safety Tips

While cruise control might seem easy and simple to use, you might want to brush up on some of the safety tips. This will enable you to determine when and how it is best to use the cruise control feature.

1. Only Use Cruise Control At A Steady Speed

If you are stuck in traffic, it might not be the best idea to activate cruise control. Cruise control is best used for a standard speed that the vehicle can constantly drive at. Yes, adaptive cruise control does have a laser indicator. However, you don’t want to rely on this as it could malfunction and you will be left driving into another vehicle.

2. Avoid Using It On Slippery Roads

Another issue is using the cruise control feature on wet or slippery roads. Ideally, you would want to avoid this as the vehicle cannot determine the level of friction available on the road. Since it only takes a little bit of water to have a vehicle aquaplane, you would want to do your best to avoid this as it could cause some crashes.

3. Don’t Use It On High-Risk Roads

One thing you also want to avoid is using your cruise control on risky roads. While it might seem easy, you might notice things like road works or even specific slopes or hills, which require throttle adjustment. It is best to avoid using cruise control on these roads, as it could cause some frustration and even possible crashes.

4. Avoid Using It In Corners

While it might be tempting to use the cruise control in corners, you will not be in control of the speed you need for secure cornering. Unfortunately, this might be frustrating and you will need to adjust to this problem. It is best to only use the cruise control feature when you are on straights and you are better off taking corners manually.

5. Don’t Use Cruise Main To Take A Nap

While this one might seem outrageous to anyone who loves driving, you should not take a nap behind the steering wheel when you have cruise control activated. It is best to always be in control of the vehicle or at least see what is going on.

Honda CR-V: Using the Cruise Control

The cruise control systemcan be left on, even when it is not in use.

2. Accelerate to the desired cruising speed above 25 mph (40 km/h).

3. Press and release the SET/ DECEL button on the steering wheel. The CRUISE CONTROL indicator on the instrument panel comes on to show the system is now activated.

Cruise control may not hold the set speed when you are going up and down hills. If your vehicle speed increases going down a hill, use the brakes to slow down. This will cancel the cruise control. To resume the set speed, press the RES/ACCEL button.

The CRUISE CONTROL indicator on the instrument panel will come back on.

What is the cruise main indicator light on the dashboard?

The cruise control feature is a great addition to a car’s configuration- driving is made more fun. The feature allows you to maintain speed without having your foot on the pedal all through.

This feature is convenient and serves a notable need but it can also be dangerous. To make it safer, automobile makers added the Cruise Main Light- it serves to keep you safe from the many occurrences that make the cruise control unsafe.

What Is A Cruise Control Main Indicator On The Dashboard?

When you activate or the cruise control is activated , the car informs you by illuminating the cruise main indicator. Note that it signifies activation but not setting- you will still need to set the speed to get the feature to full functionality.

After setting the speed, you can release the accelerator pedal and lean back. This feature offers long-distance drivers an opportunity to rest their feet without having to pull over.

The cruise’s main indicator is more of a safety light than a comfort feature. It was implemented after car makers realized that cars activated the cruise control feature without notifying the drivers causing the driver to panic when they relax the gas pedal but the car does not reduce speed.

The light came with one power button that allows the driver to turn the cruise control ON although they still need to set the speed. Before this, some drivers came to learn about activated cruise control when it was too late.- some occurrences were catastrophic.

The fact that the light only indicates the feature’s activation without necessarily setting the speed makes it much safer.

What Does It Mean When The Cruise Main Light Comes On?

When you spot this light, it means your cruise control has been activated. If you did it yourself then that’s ok but if you didn’t activate it, you ought to pull over and get some answers .

After activation, the next step is usually to set the cruising speed and let the car do its thing. With the cruise control fully engaged, you can lift your foot off the gas pedal and rest a little bit.

What Causes The Cruise Main Light To Come ON?

If you didn’t activate the cruise control several occurrences could make the cruise main light come ON.

The most obvious possibility is that the light didn’t go off the last time you put it OFF. This happens when the main button gets stuck or malfunctions. If this is the case, the cruise main light will stay ON throughout or go OFF from time to time without the driver’s input.

Another possibility is an underlying issue in the cruise control system. The system could be sending false triggers to the car’s computer.

This causes it to illuminate the cruise main light even when the feature is turned OFF. For an issue like this, the culprits are many but you can start with the wiring and sensors.

Are There Any Problems With The Cruise Main Indicator Light?

The cruise main light is affected by a myriad of problems like blown fuses, failed speed sensors, and dead brake switches. These problems are mild and should be easy to repair- there’s nothing to stress about.

How Do I Turn Off My Cruise Main Light?

The cruise main light is built to work hand in hand with the cruise control feature. If you turn the cruise control OFF, the light should go OFF too.

There are two ways to deactivate the cruise control feature, you can: step on the brakes or simply use the ON/OFF button.

If you for some reason turn it OFF by mistake, you can get the car back to set speed using the RES button although you’ll need to first accelerate it to 25 mph or more.

The cruise control feature is praised and criticized all over the globe. Its supporters say the feature allows drivers some relaxation time while its critics claim laxity can easily lead to accidents.

To keep the feature safe, it comes with a cruise main light that notifies you when the system comes ON so nothing gets you by surprise.

The light is pretty friendly and can be turned OFF by the press of a button although you’ll turn the cruise control OFF too.

Cruise Main on 2011 CR-V will not engage

I recently had my CR-V serviced at the dealer and a day later while driving down the highway the cruise main disengaged and has not re-engaged since then. The dealer did work on the brakes but I am not sure if that is related or not. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this? I should note that the cruise main light does come on and if I press and hold the button and set the cruise control it does engage but will immediately disengage when I let go. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Check to see if your brake lights are on (all the time)??? Thought is that the little tab has broken off the brake lever and is not depressing the brake switch So cruise control system thinks you're braking which turns off the cruise control as soon as you let go the button Easy to check. Look at the brake lever and switch. And/or look at the brake lights.

Thank you. I checked and that does not appear to be the issue. The Cruise Main light will not stay on. If I press and hold the Cruise Main then the cruise control works. Before this issue, when I stepped on the brakes the cruise control would disengage as expected but the cruise main would stay on. Any other thoughts? I certainly appreciate this one. I had not even thought to check the brake lights staying on all the time.

Mastering the Honda CR-V Cruise Control: A Comprehensive Guide

Are you curious about the adaptive cruise control feature in the 2023 Honda CRV? Let’s dive into how it works and how you can make the most of it.

Located on the right side of the steering wheel, there are three buttons that are key to utilizing this feature effectively. The first button activates the cruise control, the second button adjusts the following distance, and the third button enables the lane departure system.

Once activated, you can set the cruise control to maintain your desired speed, up to 90 miles per hour. If you approach a slower vehicle, the adaptive cruise control will automatically adjust your speed to match the car ahead. When you signal to change lanes, the system will accelerate back to your set speed once you’ve passed the vehicle.

Furthermore, the lane departure system provides additional safety by alerting you if your vehicle drifts out of its lane and gently guides it back to the center.

What Does Cruise Main Mean On A Honda Crv?

Cruise main is a lighted feature in Honda models operated by the Cruise Control Master Button, located on the steering wheel. It allows you to control a set speed on the Honda vehicle without constantly pressing the accelerator pedal. The Cruise Main indicator appears when you accelerate to the desired speed (above 25 mph 40 kmh). To set the speed, take your foot off the pedal and press the -SET button. Press the steering-wheel-mounted cruise control master button. On the instrument panel, the CRUISE MAIN light turns on.

Cruise control can help you become more fuel-efficient and save on gas. Honda’s warning lights are color-coded to convey the urgency of the warning. Blue or green lights are informational, usually indicating that a system is active, while the cruise main is essentially a button used to activate or deactivate the cruise speed. It is useful for driving on a highway since it allows you to maintain a constant speed.

The Cruise Main Indicator comes on when you turn on the cruise control. When activated, the cruise main will automatically adjust the idle speed and throttle. The cruise main light tells you that the cruise control system is on after you push the onoff button. However, that does not mean it is active. You still need to use the controls to set the cruise control speed.

In many Hondas, Cruise Main means all systems are go for cruise control. Once Cruise Main is activated, you still need to set your speed. If the Cruise Main light appears stuck on, it means the cruise control is on but not set to a speed. To turn it off, press the cruise control button.

To control cruise control, press the Cruise Control Master Button on the steering wheel. The CRUISE MAIN light on the instrument panel comes on, and you can accelerate to the desired cruising speed.

Honda CRV: How to Set Cruise Control

Cruise control is a cool way to put your Honda CRV on autopilot so to speak. In this setting, the vehicle can maintain speeds of 25mph or more without having to press the accelerator. However, it will not set at below 25mph. In addition, the feature disconnects when the brake is applied. Albeit this is a wonderful feature, be aware that cruise control can be dangerous on winding roads, in traffic, and on wet slippery or icy roads. With that being said, here are the uncomplicated steps to follow to set your Cruise Control.

Enable Cruise Control:

  • When your vehicle speed has reached 25mph or faster, press the MAIN button located on the RIGHT side of the steering wheel.
  • An ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) icon will appear in the dash screen to notify you that the system is ready for you to use.
  • Once you have reached the speed you want to set, press the -SET button.
  • To INCREASE the speed press the RES+ button.
  • To DECREASE the speed press the -SET.

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

3 Options To Cancel Cruise Control:

  • Press the CANCEL button in the MIDDLE of the steering wheel.
  • Press the MAIN button.
  • Press the BRAKE pedal.

*Pressing the DISTANCE button located to the RIGHT of the cancel button will RE-ENGAGE your previous cruise control settings.

  • Main (On/Off) – Press to turn the system ON/OFF; Be sure the system is OFF when not using it, as if RES/+ or -SET is active, you could accidentally hit either, which will cause your vehicle to enter cruise control mode
  • SET/− (Set/Coast) – Used to set or decrease your desired speed
  • RES/+ – To maintain the desired speed or to accelerate the set speed. To increase the speed press this button. Each press will increase the speed at 1 mph faster.

**NOTE: If you are unable to activate this feature on the first try, REPEAT the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.
