This truly “wild” journey involves an intimate group of no more than 12 participants setting off on one of the coolest tours one could possibly take. When dealing with tours that take you far away from the city, timing, planning, and organization are important.

You’ll experience all that and more on this full-day experience perfect for animal lovers or those who’d simply like to see another side of Australia.

Start off by being picked up in the morning by your driver/guide in an air-conditioned minivan with plenty of room to stretch and enjoy the scenic landscapes that unfold as you cruise along.

The guide does a great job of telling interesting stories and facts about the places as you pass by, ensuring there’s never a dull moment on the tour!

Expand To See More See Less

Your first stop of the day will be at the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, where you’ll learn all about the importance of animal conservation on the island.

See koalas and wallabies interact in their natural habitat, as your guide tells you all about their behaviors and why organizations like this are so crucial to their well-being. Stop by the Woolamai surf beach and The Nobbies, which features the largest colony of Fur Seals!

Next up, we have a slightly longer tour for you that’s ideal if it’s your first time in Australia and really want to see some of the best this part of the country has to offer.

The Phillip Island Penguin, Brighton Beach, Moonlit Sanctuary from Melbourne Tour  is a whirlwind of hidden gems and popular tourist sites, surely to bring a smile to your face! If you’re looking for a tour to take you away from the hustle and bustle of lively Melbourne, this is a fantastic choice.

Once again, with this tour you’ll get conveniently picked up right from your hotel lobby and set out in an air-conditioned vehicle to Brighton.  Brighton Beach is filled with fascinating history and charm, complete with colorful Brighton Beach bathing boxes, pristine sands, and shell hunting!

Your guide will be right there to relay the history of the beach, like how the boxes were built in the 1800s in an effort to protect the modesty of bathers.

Next on the itinerary is the Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park, which was a blast for kids and adults, alike! Here, you’ll learn all about tons of different local animals – some of which I’d never heard of before, as well as the “common” Australian critters like koalas.

I really enjoyed their signature “Conservation in Action” wildlife show, where you’ll get to see and learn about many lesser-known animals to create awareness.

After this, it’s time for some fresh air at The Nobbies and Seal Rocks, where you’ll get to appreciate phenomenal rocky views and of course, the fur seal colony. If you’re a photographer or simply enjoy dramatic landscapes, you’re sure to love it here.

Continue on to the local beach for some adorable entertainment in the form of the famous Penguin Parade! The Penguin Parade takes you and your group to a viewing platform where you’ll get to view hundreds of little penguins coming up from the ocean and over the sand on the way to their nearby burrows.

This is a safe way for you to get up close and personal with these cuties, without anyone being able to touch or affect them in any way. You can even choose the Penguin Parade Plus or guided Ranger Tour upgrade to see them even more up close!

After your guide picks you and the rest of your party up from your hotel in the morning, you’ll set out to the Tooradin Jetty before anything else. This popular fishing hot spot is super close to the town’s airfield, and its delicious seafood restaurant is open to the public.

After fueling up on some local eats, you’ll then make your way over to the infamous Phillip Island Nature Parks’ Koala Reserve!

Everyone loves these cuddly little marsupials, and you’ll not only get to see them but learn all about them with your rangers to guide you through the fascinating reserve.

After that, it’s time to head out to the breezy Cape Woolamai Beach where you’ll take in expansive views of this volcanic coastline. Make sure to grab some shots of the Pyramid Rock, which looms over the scene in the distance!

After taking some time to walk around and soak in the sights, you’ll hop back in the air-conditioned vehicle and pay a visit to the legendary Penguin Parade!

Here, you’ll see the Little Penguins (the tiniest penguin species) waddle their way to their burrows from the water from the viewing platforms above. Phillip Island was a favourite hunting, fishing, and foraging ground for the Yalloc Bulluck, one of the largest clans of the Bunurong people. These first Australians would cross over to the island in the Summer months and during the ‘egging season’. With the abundance of native wildlife still here today, it is understandable why the area was popular. Evidence of the Yalloc Bulluk’s foraging can be found today, with middens viewable at the Penguin Parade and within the Summerlands National Park . Phillip Island Nature Parks is actively working to enhance visitor understanding and preservation of these areas of cultural significance.

The Nobbies Rocks Phillip Island Nature Park

As you enter Summerlands , you will notice the absence of any housing. This is the part of the island that is all National Park . The Phillip Island Tour Penguin Parade

As the sun begins to set, it is time to make your way to the Penguin Parade . The Little Penguins only come out of the water after the sun has gone down so that they can be sure to stay out of the way of any predators in the air above them. The Penguin Parade ask that no photography be taken from this point on. This is to protect the sensitive eyes of the Little Penguins and ensure they are not scared. Wildlife Tours fully supports this request. We believe you will enjoy witnessing such an amazing natural spectacle without the distraction of getting the ‘perfect photo’ – allow yourself to be fully immersed in the experience ! If you’re also considering travelling the Great Ocean Road , combine the two destinations deals for an overnight trip with us on our 2-Day Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island Tour . I went to Phillip Island this July 2019 and that was a perfect day. If you love animals, here is the place. We visit the Maru Wildlife park with koalas, wallabies, parrots… Don’t forget to bring warm clothes in winter for the Penguin Parade because it’s getting chilly aha By the way, the Penguin Parade is something to see in your life, this is a cute moment

phillip island penguin tour

I had a lovely day on the Phillip Island tour , started at the Maru Wildlife park and then went on to a chocolate factory as most people wanted to go there, had some really good chocolate! After this we went on to a board walk with beautiful views over the sea. As the evening was nearing it was time to go the Pengiun parade. We got time ourselves to walk around and watch the penguins coming out of the water. The penguins were so much smaller than i expected which made them really cute! Overall had a great day and will not forget about the cute little penguins!

The tour was excellent. Seeing more than 500 little penguins parade on the beach was a beautiful experience. The tour is greatly recommended. I went there Sunday April 8, and I had fun.

On the off chance that you like penguins, at that point this is the visit for you! In spite of this being a significant tourist trap area, this group tour completes an extraordinary activity giving you guidance on how best to see the thousand penguins coming up the shoreline/cliffside. It is such a cool experience and I thoroughly recommend it. You additionally get the opportunity to sustain some child and grown-up kangaroos and hang out with them and get the chance to see some other extraordinary Australia natural life also. You can likewise pay additional cash to get a photograph holding a koala, which is really one of a kind because there aren’t a considerable measure of areas that let you do that. Visit manage was an extraordinary child with a great deal of good data and they set up lunch for you and everything, which is pleasant, yet normal.

Visit was awesome fun… penguins are so charming and Phil our guide was exceptionally fascinating! Would prescribe to everybody who visits Melbourne.

We enjoyed seeing the parrots and the penguin parade. It was nice. I highly recommend this tour. We went there last July. It was chilly that night. Make sure to have a warm coat. We love it.

Incredible outing to a wildlife stop on Philip Island. Our tour guide was Kelly, she was extremely enlightening and awesome. She’s fun as well. The penguin parade was beautiful. I certainly suggest this tour.

phillip island penguin tour

We did the Phillip island tour and for us it was a great experience. We were 25 people, so not to big of a group and the pick up bus arrived on time.

For lunch we had a choice between chicken or ham sandwiches and with that a roll and some dried fruit. We were also offered coffee and tea.

All the stops were good, and one of the things that really made our day great was our guide Neal who did an excellent job telling us what we could expect of the different stops. I think enough time was offered at each stop.

We got to see a great deal of wildlife, both in the park and out in the wild. Remember to bring warm clothes when watching the parade, since the night gets cold even in summertime.

I chose ‘Wildlife Tours Australia’ because the programme itinerary was nice and the expenses were suitable to my pocket. It was a one day trip to Phillip Island. I would like to thank the friendly tour guide (Mike was his name, conducted the whole trip, drove us there and managed everything so well) especially for such a nice experience. The trip included visit to Maru wildlife park, Churchill island and the Phillip island. The evening visit to penguin parade was an incredible experience. I would highly recommend people to take this trip.

Timely pick-up from hotel. The driver/tour guide for my tour was Mr Matt D who had a good knowledge regarding the places in the agenda even took the effort to remember everyone’s name for that tour.

Pretty commendable. Sandwiches, biscuits and drinks were provided prior to Maru Koala Park visit. The beaches visited were beautiful. Got to see the Penguins coming out from the sea in the evening, Not to be missed. Recommended

phillip island penguin tour

I went on the Phillip Island Day Tour on the 24th of October together with my best friend. We didn’t know what to expect of the day but we were pleasantly surprised! The day started of with a visit to a nice small wildlife park where you could see some koala’s and kangaroos. After that we continued our trip to Phillip Island we visited some beautiful sights of the island where we got the chance to do a walk and enjoy the nature. We ended the day with the well known Penguin Parade. It was amazing to see all those cute little penguins searching their homes to spent the night! There were hundreds of them, I couldn’t stop smiling. We had a nice lunch included in the tour and the tour guide told us some interesting information about the island and the penguins. I would highly recommend this trip, it was great fun!

phillip island penguin tour

Great service from beginning to end. We had a dashing tour guide named Sid, who was considerate, entertaining, and very accommodating. He adjusted the stops accordingly and we were never rushed or spent too long at a stop. My husband and I had a wonderful time and this day tour was one of the highlights of our first trip to Australia.

phillip island penguin parade - best time to visit

  • Mid December to late January is the busiest time to visit the Penguin Parade and Phillip Island as a whole. During this time, the penguins enter their chick-feeding phase , so expect tickets to sell out fast.
  • September to November comes in at a close second. The penguins will transition from egg laying to the chick feeding phase, which means there will be newborn chicks hatching . Given that it is Spring/Summer in Australia , people will be out and about exploring the island.
  • Summer break in Australia usually lasts from December to February , and with it come festivals like Christmas, New Year's, and Valentine's Day. If you plan to visit during this time, book your tickets in advance and prepare yourself for a larger crowd than usual.
  • Low-season (March through August) is a good time to visit Penguin Parade if you want to see them arrive earlier than usual , and don't mind the colder weather. Expect fewer crowds in most attractions during this period.

TL;DR: If you don’t mind the cold, we suggest coming in late autumn or winter for a less crowded and early viewing of the Penguin Parade. Be prepared for the rain with a raincoat or umbrella. If you’d rather remain warm, early spring or late summer will have moderate to large crowds and comfortable temperatures.

  • Non-migratory penguins: Most birds have a migration schedule they follow every year, but not the Little Penguins of Phillip Island! These tiny birds have chosen Summerland Beach and Phillip Island as their forever home, which is why you get to see the Penguin Parade every day of the year.
  • Self-funded conservation: Phillip Island Nature Parks and the Penguin Parade self-fund their conservation efforts, so purchasing tickets to the Penguin Parade and other Phillip Island attractions can help them continue their good work.
  • Blue-feathered colony: Little Penguins are the only species of penguins that have blue feathers on their coat, which is unlike the traditional black & white seen on other penguins.
  • A progressive household: Both the male and female penguins take turns with hunting for food, caring for their chicks, and watching over their burrows.
