Let China's experience, China's solutions, and China's wisdom go to the world better

The 2022 Overseas "China Tourism and Culture Week" highlights the five thematic sections of "Intangible Cultural Heritage Poverty Alleviation", "Rural Revitalization", "Urban Construction", "Yellow River Culture" and "Silk Road Cultural Tourism", and fully demonstrates the great achievements of the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era by telling vivid stories of the protection and inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture, culture and tourism to help poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, and the innovative development of contemporary China, so that the Chinese experience, Chinese solutions and Chinese wisdom contained in it can better go to the world and benefit all mankind.

Among them, the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Poverty Alleviation" section presents China's vivid practice and useful experience in poverty alleviation through intangible cultural heritage through the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Makes Life Better" - Intangible Cultural Heritage Poverty Reduction Thematic Digital Exhibition, and selected pictures and short videos highlight the vitality of China's intangible cultural heritage "seeing people, seeing things and seeing life". The "Rural Revitalization" section shows the changes and development achievements of representative Chinese rural areas, and shows the unremitting efforts of Chinese people to build happy homes and let future generations "see the mountains, see the water, and remember the homesickness"; The "Urban Construction" section tells the humanistic stories of 9 small and medium-sized cities through the "City and Affairs" series of short videos, inviting the audience to follow foreign anchors on on-site visits and experience the Chinese urban style with both historical depth and modern vitality. The "Yellow River Culture" section focuses on promoting the beautiful natural scenery and colorful cultural and tourism resources of the Yellow River flowing through the region, telling the "Yellow River Story" and sharing the beauty of the Yellow River; The "Silk Road Cultural Tourism" section focuses on the excellent cultural and tourism resources of the regions along the Silk Road.

These carefully designed and carefully selected digital resources are centrally launched by the centers and tourism offices on the official websites of the institutions and social media accounts such as "Facebook", "Youtu" and "Shadowframe", and meet the local people "in the cloud". The wonderful projects outline a real and vivid picture of nature and humanities in contemporary China, presenting China's cultural and tourism image in an all-round and three-dimensional manner, as well as the efforts and achievements in construction and development in recent years, which have won the great attention of overseas people, and China's situation in the protection and innovative development of traditional culture, cultural tourism empowerment and poverty alleviation is particularly recognized by everyone.

At the offline sharing event "Telling the Story of China's Rural Revitalization and Urban Construction" hosted by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and the China Tourism Office in Singapore, in addition to the theme video carefully edited by the center to tell the story of China's rural revitalization and urban construction, Li Hongqiong, Deputy Director of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, and Gao Xiaoxing, Senior Librarian of the National Library of Singapore, also gave speeches on "China's rural revitalization strategy and urban construction development since China's reform and opening up, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China". Walk into the National Library of Singapore Chinese Collections: China's Rural Revitalization and Singapore's Urban Stories". The participants expressed their admiration for China's great achievements in rural revitalization and poverty alleviation, and fully affirmed the role of culture and tourism in rural revitalization and urban development. Lin Qili, chairman of Singapore's Golden Airlines International Group, said that the changes in China's countryside are exciting, and he hopes to take more Singaporean children to China's countryside in the future to experience different natural scenery and rich history and culture. The Berlin Chinese Cultural Center invited nearly 30 members of the Ludwigsfeld German Chinese Friendship Association to the center to participate in the offline cultural salon with the theme of "'Rural Revitalization' Brings Happy Life". Through four short films reflecting China's rural construction and special lectures, such as "Yucun - Future Village" and "Fishing Song Tenglang White Horse Lake", the event introduced to the guests the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature of "lucid waters and lush mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains", as well as the win-win road to achieve culture, ecological protection and improvement of people's livelihood in the modern development of China's rural areas. Grushka, chairman of the Friendship Association, said that he himself visited a rural village near Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province in 2014, and the film presented the real situation of China's new rural development, and he wanted to praise the world-renowned achievements of China, a populous country, in poverty reduction.

With online and offline efforts, the "China Tourism Culture Week" presents a colorful look

In this year's "China Tourism and Culture Week", overseas Chinese cultural centers and tourism offices have made joint efforts online and offline, innovated planning, enhanced interaction, further enriched communication channels, promoted content integration, expanded audience, and shared "beautiful China" with local people.

Based on the characteristics of online communication, each center and tourism office give full play to the advantages of the new media matrix, and formulate the optimal release schedule and plan according to the content adaptability and delivery rules of different platforms according to the preferences and needs of local people, and have achieved outstanding results. According to statistics, the Yangon Chinese Cultural Center held a total of 28 online activities, posted 469 posts, and covered 2103672 people during the "China Tourism and Culture Week". The "China Tourism Culture Week" activities released by the Tourism Office of China in New Delhi on social platforms covered more than 8.8 million. The "China Tourism and Culture Week" Laos special live broadcast event held by the Laos Chinese Cultural Center was called the "top stream" in Laos for the interactive data of the day. The vivid introduction of the host, the old and the English, the broadcast of various theme videos, and the original video "China in the Eyes of Laotos" specially produced by the center have left a deep impression on Lao netizens, and the beautiful international big city, modern high-speed rail, novel tourism experience, and special guests draw awards for everyone from time to time, continue to cause an upsurge in the live broadcast room.

In addition, "China Tourism Culture Week" launched the "China Tourism Course" multilingual learning platform to the world this year. Once the free course with a novel form and full of dry goods was launched, it attracted many tourism practitioners and "experts" who love travel from many countries to sign up.

In addition to online activities, this year, each center and tourism office held a number of offline activities according to the actual situation and local characteristics. The "2022 China Taijiquan Online Training Course" jointly organized by the Riga Chinese Cultural Center and the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Latvia, Henan University of Technology and the Latvian Sports and Martial Arts Association not only further improved the level of Latvian taijiquan, but also made this year's "China Tourism and Culture Week" more colorful. The Athens Chinese Cultural Center, the Municipal Government of Horagios and the Hellenic Chinese Association held the "Sino-Greek Cultural Exchange Messengers" activity, and cooperated with Athens International Airport, three Confucius Institutes in Greece and other institutions to launch a Chinese photo tour exhibition with the themes of "Great Beauty of China" and "World Heritage in China", which was widely recognized by all walks of life in Greece. The Chinese Cultural Center in Paris held the "Dance in Paris" - Sino-French breakdance performance exchange meeting, inviting athletes from the breakdance foreign training team of the Chinese Sports Dance Federation and the breakdancers of the French national team to compete on the same stage in France in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. In addition, the "Tiangong Dialogue and Cultural Center Open Day" and "2022 World Fitness Qigong Day Rabat Branch Venue" organized by the Rabat Chinese Cultural Center, the "Sichuan Giant Panda Cultural Tourism Photo Exhibition" and "China Film Festival Screening Month" held by the Chinese Cultural Center in Brussels, the "Cultural Journey - My Chinese Story" organized by the Chinese Tourism Office in Rome, the Italian Chinese Tourism Promotion Association and the Italian Chinese Exchange and Development Center for Italian people, A series of offline activities, such as the opening ceremony of the 2022 China Tourism Culture Week in Thailand jointly organized by the China Cultural Center in Bangkok and the award ceremony of the "Find Travel Masters" collection activity, greatly enriched the connotation of the "China Tourism Culture Week".

Each center and tourism office also gave full play to its resource advantages and combined the "China Tourism Culture Week" activities with their respective brand activities and well-known local activities, which has achieved twice the result with half the effort. For example, the Chinese Cultural Center in Paris took the "Teaching Open Day" as an opportunity to hold two video screenings with the theme of "China Tourism and Culture Week". Combined with the cultural brand built over the years - "Chinese Culture Experience Class", the Chinese Cultural Center Berlin has designed a knowledgeable and interesting "Chinese Culture Journey" experience activity for teachers and students of the Chinese elective class from the Ehrunfried Walter von Cheinhaus High School in Dresden, Germany. The Cairo Chinese Cultural Center also brought the relevant content of "China Tourism and Culture Week" to the "Badr University Chinese Culture Week" in Egypt in October.

It is worth mentioning that this year's "China Tourism and Culture Week" coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival Traditional Festival, and a series of cultural activities with Mid-Autumn Festival characteristics have enhanced the understanding of traditional Chinese culture in various countries: the Chinese Cultural Centre in Kuala Lumpur launched the workshop "The End of the World at this time, Mid-Autumn Festival Art Fun"; Malta Chinese Cultural Centre held the offline activity "Cloud Tour China - Enjoy Mid-Autumn Festival"; "2022 China Tourism Culture Week - Copenhagen Yaji Inviting Moon" was held on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival on the banks of the Copenhagen River in Denmark; The Benin Chinese Cultural Center planned and held the "The End of the World - Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Festival and Food Appreciation" activity; The Cultural Group of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland supported Google Ireland to hold Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations; The Sydney Chinese Cultural Centre held "Flowers and Full Moon - Mid-Autumn Festival Chamber Concert" offline, and launched the special activity "The End of the World - Mid-Autumn Festival and Chengdu Appointment" online...

The effect is becoming more and more significant, and it is gaining momentum for future cultural and tourism cooperation

When the 2022 overseas "China Tourism Culture Week" was launched, it was highly recognized by many overseas guests. Garibaldi, director of the Italian National Tourism Administration, said that although the new crown pneumonia epidemic has temporarily interrupted the flow of tourists between the two countries, the holding of the overseas "China Tourism Culture Week" in 2022 will help promote post-epidemic personnel exchanges and promote friendly exchanges. Shuo Ilmann, chairman of the German-Chinese Friendship Association in Hanau, Germany, said that the "China Tourism and Culture Week" will play an important role as a bridge for the development of cultural relations between China and Germany. Diane Van Camb, CEO of the China Exchange Centre in Bristol and the West of England, believes that the "China Tourism Culture Week" is a wonderful way to share the beauty and city life experience of various parts of China with the British public.

With the deepening of the activities, the wonderful projects have continuously aroused the attention of various countries and received enthusiastic feedback from the local people. When the "China Tourism Culture Week" was opened at the Nigerian Chinese Cultural Center, Patthea, Director of the Department of Domestic Tourism Development of the Ministry of Information and Culture of Nigeria, said that the holding of the "China Tourism Culture Week" will play a good role in promoting the learning and exchanges of relevant industry people, so that more Nigerians can visit "Beautiful China" without leaving home.

Some Spanish netizens commented after watching the "Culture Shaanxi" video launched by the Chinese Cultural Center in Madrid and the China Tourism Office in Madrid: "The beauty of capital letters! I can see the people's cherishment of cultural heritage and respect for their predecessors. Georgina Igras, vice president of the Zhihua Lecture Hall, a Spanish non-governmental think tank and former China correspondent of EFE, expressed her sincere admiration for China's poverty alleviation achievements by giving full play to the wisdom and spirit of solidarity in adapting measures to local conditions. Rafal Kascal, President of the West-China Tourism Association, spoke highly of the "China Tourism Course", saying that the online course is comprehensive and immediate, providing a good opportunity for professionals interested in the Chinese tourism market for further study.

On September 16, Ulaanbaatar Chinese Cultural Center held the 2022 "Overseas China Tourism Culture Week" "Chubb Walks Hand in Hand to Activate Poems and Distant Places" China-Mongolia Tourism Seminar. De Nkhgizhigrad, Associate Professor of Tourism at the National University of Mongolia, made an in-depth analysis of the current situation of Mongolia-China tourism exchanges and cooperation, and put forward suggestions on policies to promote the in-depth development of tourism exchanges between Mongolia and China. Chen Shuang, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia and Director of the Ulaanbaatar Chinese Cultural Center, expressed the hope that the seminar will inject new impetus into the recovery and revitalization of China-Mongolia tourism and help the sustainable development of China-Mongolia tourism exchanges and cooperation.

On September 17th, the "China Tourism Culture Week" lecture "A hundred stories are better than a sight: an in-depth understanding of the neighbor China that cannot be moved" was held at Japan-China College, a famous Chinese educational institution in Japan. "Chinese culture is vast and profound, and tourist attractions such as China's world heritage sites are desirable." "The diligence of Chinese college students and their sense of serving the society are impressive." "I look forward to traveling to China after the epidemic is over, and feeling the excitement and vitality there." After listening to the lecture given by Yang Jianxing, head of the Cultural Affairs Department of the Japan-China Friendship Association, many Japanese audience members expressed their feelings one after another.

Guo Zongguang, director of the Wellington Chinese Cultural Centre, said that the annual "China Tourism and Culture Week" has formed a certain degree of brand influence and audience expectations in the local area, and each year's theme presents new ideas and emphases, either broadening the cognitive horizon of China geographically and spatially, or deepening the interpretation of Chinese culture from a historical dimension. A launch ceremony for 2022  China Tourism and Culture Week  was held on Sept 6 in Beijing, officially starting a global event which runs until the end of this month.

During the event, overseas Chinese culture centers and tourism offices along with international branches of people.com.cn  will host a series of online and offline art exhibits, video shows, lectures, and forums, centered on five thematic parts -- intangible cultural heritage and poverty reduction, revitalization of rural China, urban development, Yellow River culture, and tourism and culture along the Silk Road.

The aim of staging this global project is “to showcase a real, beautiful China -- its latest innovation, progress and achievement in tourism and cultural sectors, its rich tourism products and services, as well as its initiatives to promote international exchange and cooperation between China and the rest of the world”, said Hu Heping, culture and tourism minister, in a keynote speech at the launch ceremony.

An online learning platform for Chinese Tourism courses ( https://course.chinaculture.org/ ) developed by the Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for tourism agencies and tour guides worldwide was unveiled during the ceremony.

Initiated in 2016 and co-sponsored by the Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation and the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and people.com.cn, the annual overseas tourism and culture week is widely recognized as a key vehicle to promote Chinese culture and tourism worldwide.

Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
  • Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
