MOULIN ROUGE! THE MUSICAL

bristol hippodrome tour

The Spectacular, Spectacular! global hit musical will perform in Bristol next summer, with performances from Thursday 26 June to Saturday 9 August 2025 as part of its first ever World Tour.

The first ever World Tour of multi-award-winning hit stage show Moulin Rouge! The Musical, will come to the Bristol Hippodrome with performances from Thursday 26 June to Saturday 9 August 2025. For information and to be first in line for tickets, signup at moulinrougemusical.com

Enter a world of splendour and romance, of eye-popping excess, of glitz, grandeur, and glory! Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film comes to life onstage, remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza. A celebration of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and — above all — Love, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is more than a musical — it is a state of mind.

As in the film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical celebrates over 160 years of music – from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. The stage musical features over 70 iconic songs, many from the movie as well as recent hits released since the movie premiered over 20 years ago.

Set in Paris, 1899, a world of indulgent beauty and unparalleled extravagance, of bohemians and aristocrats, of boulevardiers and reprobates, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is the story of a lovesick American writer, Christian, and Satine, the dazzling star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub.

When their lives collide at the Moulin Rouge, they fall hopelessly in love, only to be thwarted by the nightclub’s host and impresario, Harold Zidler, and The Duke of Monroth, the wealthy and entitled patron of the club who thinks he can buy anything he wants, including Satine. Together with his Bohemian friends – the brilliant and starving artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and the greatest tango dancer in all of Paris, Santiago – Christian stages a musical spectacular in an attempt to save the Moulin Rouge and win the heart of Satine.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is the winner of ten 2021 Tony Awards including Best Musical, an Olivier Award, two Drama League Awards including Outstanding Production of a Musical, five Drama Desk Awards and ten Outer Critics Circle Award Honor citations including New Broadway Musical.

“We are absolutely delighted that the Bristol Hippodrome will host Moulin Rouge! The Musical next summer as part of its world tour. Bristol is a lively, culturally rich and multicultural city, renowned for its vibrant arts scene and a strong musical heritage. We know that the bohemians and artisans of the Montmartre will be embraced with open arms. Welcome… to the Moulin Rouge!” says Carmen Pavlovic for Global Creatures, producer of the Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Tony Award® winner Alex Timbers (other credits include Here Lies Love, Beetlejuice, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Peter and the Starcatcher) with a book by Tony Award® winner John Logan (also three-time Academy Award nominee including for Gladiator and The Aviator), choreography by Tony Award® winner Sonya Tayeh (also Lucille Lortel Award for Kung Fu and Emmy winner) and music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tony Award® winner Justin Levine (other credits include The Outsiders, Here Lies Love, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).

The design team for Moulin Rouge! The Musical includes Tony Award® winner Derek McLane (sets; other credits include Beautiful - The Carole King Musical), Tony Award® and Olivier Award winner Catherine Zuber (costumes; other credits include Kiss Me Kate, The King & I, South Pacific, Mrs Doubtfire), Tony Award® winner Justin Townsend (lighting), Tony Award® winner Peter Hylenski (sound), Drama Desk Award winner David Brian Brown (wig and hair design; other credits include Come From Away), Sarah Cimino (make-up design) and Tony Award® winner Matt Stine (Music Producer). Casting is by Pippa Ailion CDG and Natalie Gallacher CDG.

The World tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical is produced by Carmen Pavlovic and Gerry Ryan OAM for Global Creatures and Bill Damaschke. Executive Producers of the World Tour are Angela Dalton and Nick Grace Management. General Management and Tour Booking by Nick Grace Management.

Casting is still to be announced.

Hairspray uk tour.

Hairspray’s UK tour features a diverse cast that will ignite crowds and will make its fourth stop in the United Kingdom. This iteration of the UK tour will feature Matt Rixon as Edna Turnblad. Rixon is the key to the show’s success, with his major performances including: Merlin, Cinderella and Aladdin.

Norman Pace will play alongside Rixon as Wilbur Turnblad. Pace is a household name who is known more for his comedic performances than his acting performances. Pace is part of the Hale & Pace duo, and has a wealth of television experience that he has honed to bring his own portrayal of Wilbur to the stage.

Edward Chitticks has played roles in Ensemble and Mamma Mia and is a newcomer to the stage. He plays the show’s heartthrob Link Larkin.

Rebecca Mendoza will play the role of Tracy Turnblad. She is playing her first major role in Hairspray, but the crowd will quickly realize that Mendoza’s training has made her comfortable on stage.

Layton Willians plays Seaweed and has been on stage since the age of 12. He has been in several performances, but he is best known for his part in Thriller Live. He played the role of a young Michael Jackson in the performance.

The 1988 film’s rendition of the film is portrayed on stage with the same 1960s dance and music that has led millions of people across the world to see the production. The United Kingdom’s first Hairspray production was a West End production held at Shaftsbury Theatre.

Hairspray was a major success at the theater, surpassing the 1,000-show mark and being performed for two and a half years before the original production stopped.

Tracy’s journey takes the stage, with the hair and big girl dream of making it to television. The show features Tracy as she tries to dance her way into television, first becoming a star in her home town before falling for the local heartthrob Link Larkin.

Baltimore 1962 is where Tracy starts her transition to fame, with the stage bringing viewers back to a time where hairspray, muscle cars and small-town dreams filled the landscape. Tracy’s determination and fight for fame lands her into a whirlwind of a life where her hard work leads to a life that once seemed unimaginable.

The entire night is filled with singing, dancing and laughter.

The cast’s singing and dancing includes choreography by Drew McOnie.

Paul Kerryson directs the show, while the lyrics and music are from Marc Shaiman.

Why see An Inspector Calls?

There is someone at the door.

Often referred to as the definitive staging of JB Priestley's drawing-room drama, this production from London's National Theatre is on tour this year - bringing the masterpiece to you. Debuting in 1992, this iteration has been seen all over the world, scooping awards with each revival. Original director Stephen Daldry (The Hours, Billy Elliot) returns for this jaunt, showcasing his innate understanding of the literary classic. Now starring Tim Treloar as Inspector Goole and Jackie Morrison as Mrs Birling!

What Is The Story Of An Inspector Calls?

One night in April 1912, the comfortably upper-middle-class Birling family gather to celebrate the engagement of their daughter, Shelia. In attendance are her fiance Gerald, her younger brother Eric, and her parents, Sybil and the boorish, dominating Arthur. The party is soon interrupted by the appearance of the mysterious Inspector Goole, who has come to enquire upon the recent suicide of Miss Eva Smith, a young working-class woman known to the family.

In his possession, Goole has a photograph of the young woman and her diary - implying that she has named her tormentors within. Over the course of the evening, each member of the Birling family comes to realize they have all played a part in her downfall, in turn exploiting her, abandoning her, leading her to social and financial ruin before she finally took her own life. Faced with the maddening guilt and unable to accept the responsibility, we see one devastating night in the life of this entitled family, as they all seek to escape blame, believing their wealth and status will protect them from the consequences.

Timely as ever, Priestly's blazing critique of social responsibility rings just as true as it did back in 1945, strengthened by our continued fascination with capitalism and our refusal to accept the realities of others.

Key Information

Tim Treloar as Inspector Goole Jackie Morrison as Mrs Birling Jeffrey Harmer as Mr Birling Tom Chapman as Gerald Croft Leona Allen as Sheila Birling George Rowlands as Eric Birling Alice Darling as Edna Katy Dean, Michael Gukas, Pena Iiyambo, Simon Pothecary and Philip Stewart as ensemble.

An Officer and a Gentleman is one of THE definitive movies from the 1980s, a romantic drama that has one of the most recognisable endings that has transcended culture.

The musical celebrates the glories of the 1980s since its debut on the 40th anniversary of the film’s release, and tells the story of Zack Mayo and Paula Pokrifki’s romance to a captivated audience. Once more, it celebrates the 80s by having a backdrop full of classic songs from the era, including the likes of Madonna, Blondie, Bon Jovi, and the award-winning song Up Where We Belong .

In a musical where dreams clash with destiny, the nostalgia of a time forgotten will linger on for everyone who watches this masterpiece. Tickets here for the Bristol Hippodrome dates.

Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby - 24-28 September

During its broadcast you could not go anywhere without a mention of the Peaky Blinders or Tommy Shelby, such is the appeal of the drama over the last decade. It might be a surprise to see the story of the Birmingham gang retold in a show of dance, however it is a welcome one as the TV series remains on hiatus and fans wait for the movie to release in 2024.

Specially commissioned music is played by a live band on stage, and fan favourite tracks from the series also makes a return. It's stopping at the Bristol Hippodrome during its tour next year, with ticket prices starting at £13.

Perhaps most significant of all is the writer of Peaky Blinders is behind the show as well. And it is ‘by the order of the Peaky Blinders’ that this event guarantees to fill that itch for period drama once again. Tickets here.

Stalls Guide

The Stalls are split into two main seating blocks by one central aisle, with six Boxes located toward the front of the section and eight Boxes at the rear of the seating. Wheelchair users’ platforms are situated on the left-hand side of the auditorium when facing the stage, with four spaces for access patrons and companions. Rows stretch from Row A to Row Zb, offering a variety of views. With a seating capacity of over 800, the Stalls is the largest section in the theatre, with rows reaching up to 39 seats toward the centre. The Grand Circle overhang kicks in halfway through the Stalls at around Row M, which can slightly obstruct the view in rows behind, causing a letterbox effect. Rows only slightly curve around the stage, ensuring good views throughout, with the best seats located in the centre of the section.

The Piano Bar is available step-free from the street, via a slight ramp, serving a wide range of refreshments. There are steps to reach the bar from the Stalls. A kiosk is also available at the rear of the Stalls. There is an at-seat service for access patrons who are unable to reach the bars.

Men’s toilets are located on the left-hand side of the auditorium when facing the stage, with women’s toilets situated at the rear of the Stalls. A fully adapted accessible toilet is located just inside the Access Entrance on Denmark Street and is level access from the Stalls.

Bristol Hippodrome Backstage Tour

Bristol Hippodrome Backstage: Friday 14 February 2020

Well this was a really impressive tour of Bristol’s much loved theatre and no matter how much you already know about the venue, you will leave not only having learnt something new, but will take away a new appreciation of the little things you probably haven’t noticed before.

It’s a two-hour tour, taking in the main front of house areas, auditorium, backstage, under stage, stage and fly floor. The route may vary depending on the production that’s running.

We took a tour whilst The Book of Mormon was running. We were allowed to stand on stage and walk around the back drop where everything was in readiness for the matinee performance. We weren’t allowed to take photographs of anything belonging to the production – which is fair enough – though seeing the meticulously organised costumes, props and set in preparation for performance was fascinating.
