Tuesday, Wednesday, September 17/18

This special overnight trip  will feature an exclusive tour of the battlefield, highlighting the "God stories" from both sides of the battle.  President Lincoln, a renowned history interpreter will join us and share his thoughts of the battle.  Plus, we will see the Eisenhower Farm, visit the Museum, Cyclorama, eat great food and enjoy shopping in downtown Gettysburg.   

Price includes:  Motor coach transportation, overnight lodging, tickets to  all  attractions and meals- Continental breakfast, Dinner and Lunch,.  Price per person( Based on double occupancy):  $395.00.  single - $440 and triple:  $368.  Place your registration by  August 15!  See you on the bus!

1.   October 31/November 1 ( Thursday, Friday)

Join us as we see two shows in two days!  We are going to see "DANIEL"  at the Sight and Sound Theater and enjoy a Christmas show - "Jolly Juke Box" at the Magic and Wonder Theater .  Two fantastic shows, 3 meals, shopping, motor coach transportation, lodging and great fellowship are included in the price.

2. December 6 (Friday). It's a one day getaway to Milllersburg, Ohio.

Join us as we enjoy a hilarious and family friendly "Christmas in the Country" show at the Amish Country Theater.  We'll have  fabulous Amish buffet and enjoy some Christmas shopping.  An early Christmas present to yourself!

Our Spring  Getaway!  

We had a fabulous spring bus trip to Sugarcreek, Ohio on Saturday,  May 18!  Our one day  trip was full of great food, wonderful fellowship, fun shopping and an inspiring performance.   We were there for the opening week of Ruth the Musical at the Ohio Star Theater.    It was an awesome one day adventure!

We had a great time enjoying the "DANIEL" performance at Sight and Sound Theater on Tuesday/Wednesday, March 19/20.  Chalk Talk's presentation by Elva was beautiful as well as inspiring.  The Amish farmland tour was great and we all enjoyed shopping at the different farms and at Kitchen Kettle Village.  A great time was had by all!   Let's do it again!

Galentine's Day

Galentine’s Day - Saturday, February 17th, Canfield/Youngstown, Ohio .  We enjoyed a special  day trip to celebrate Valentine’s Day with other" Gal " friends.  The Piccadilly Parlour Victorian Tea house was lovely and the meal was delicious!  Following our tea time, we went to the Amish Market for some shopping (great bargains) and visited the Butler Art Museum in Youngstown, Ohio. It was a fun celebration enjoying the joy of Christian female friendship on this  fun “girls” trip.

Ark Encounter & Creation Museum  -  Williamstown, KY - 12/15-16/2023

On our Christmas at Creation bus trip  we traveled to experience the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum !  The Ark Encounter had extended hours during the holiday season and had many Christmas activities for the entire family .  The Ark was lit with thousand of Christmas lights; free Christmas concerts, family programs, and we were able to  visit their zoo as well as  after touring the amazing Ark.  

We had a wonderful time in titusville!

Take a ride into history  -  Titusville, PA - 10/6 2023

We went on a quick getaway to experience the beauty of God's creation and visit the PA valley that changed the world.  The door opened for us and we took a train ride this past fall. This 3-hour train trip  was through the valley where oil was discovered . We also visited 2 local museums and met expert local historians. We shared a gourmet box lunch on the train as we witnessed the beautiful colors of fall.

 Wow!  If you have ever seen a Sight and Sound production, you'll agree they are the best!  The Moses production was fantastic .  Our group loved seeing the Bible story come to life right before us .  Our fellowehip was sweet and peacefull.  It was my great pleasure to watch others meet both old friends and make new ones on the bus !  If you haven't been to  a Sight and Sound extravaganza stage production,  you'll need to come with us for the next show!

We love to take regular bus trips to SugarCreek OH.  They have so many fun events to offer. This  trip featured a live musical comedy that made us laugh and remember the brave men and women who served our country.  Of course, we have plenty of time to shop in the cute Amish way,  enjoy the best country cooking and having a great time with this quick getaway!

About Alexandra Kay Illinois-native  Alexandra Kay  began writing songs at the age of 15. Following her UK and EU run this October and November, British musician Mahalia announced today her massive In Real Life Tour will continue to North America this February and March 2024. Produced by Live Nation, the 25-date run kicks off on February 20 at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC and makes stops across North America in Los Angeles, CA; Atlanta, GA; New York, NY; Toronto, ON and more before wrapping up in Chicago, IL at House of Blues on March 26. The second leg will see Mahalia perform her highly anticipated second studio album IRL for the first time live in North America.

ABOUT MAHALIA

The last few years have marked many achievements for the Leicester-born star. Beginning 2020 with her second BRIT nomination, Mahalia featured on up-and-coming fellow Midlands rapper Pa Salieu’s debut mixtape, ‘Send Them To Coventry’, whilst also gracing the track list of Headie One’s #1 album ‘Edna’. Besides the awards and nominations, it’s also been a time of deep personal growth, one that Mahalia describes as a real rollercoaster in her personal and professional life. Reflection has been the thread running through Mahalia’s writing and the singer hopes that her music will encourage her listeners to carve out time to also look back and re-evaluate: “ We’re all fixated on how we can make ourselves better but I want people to also reminisce on lovely or painful situations they’ve lived through and how they’ve helped shape the people they are now .”

Located within Summersville Lake Retreat , you can climb 122 steps to the top of West Virginia’s only working lighthouse. Since the bathhouse first opened in 1930, thousands have enjoyed the variety of baths and treatments in the warm mineral waters that flow from the springs at a constant temperature of 74.3 degrees Fahrenheit.

Prickett’s Fort State Park is a 188-acre state park near the confluence of Prickett’s Creek and the Monongahela River. The park features a reconstructed fort and commemorates life on the frontier during the late 18th century. The original fort was constructed in 1774 to provide early settlers protection from Native American attacks.

Dig deep into West Virginia coal culture at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and load into a man car and roll along the rails down into what was once an operating underground mine. Known as the place where John Henry defeated the steam drill, becoming one of the world’s greatest folk heroes. It is the longest tunnel on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. At the tunnel’s entrance in Talcott, you’ll find a life-sized statue of John Henry wielding the sledgehammer that won him the battle against the machine.

The Greenbrier Resort has earned national recognition numerous times for its world class amenities, which means you can find this White Sulphur Springs staple in Fallout ®  76. It’s hard to say if all 11,000 acres made it into the game, but in real life you can enjoy all the beautiful mountains, test your luck at the on-site casino, hit the green on the golf course and enjoy the many restaurants. A once-secret cold war bunker is also worth a look too. The “Whitespring Resort” in the game is in dire need of new coats of white paint, but otherwise, still carries its elegance.

The iconic golden dome of the West Virginia State Capitol building in Charleston is unmistakable in the game. The building is 292 feet tall, making it four and a half feet taller than the capitol building in Washington, D.C. You can take guided tours of the building and the West Virginia State Capitol Complex to learn more about the history of this charming city.

Woodburn Hall was constructed between 1874 and 1876 and was first known as University Hall at West Virginia University . In Fallout ®  76, the building retains most of its historic architecture and design – with the addition of a statue of the Vault Boy mascot in front.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill in the mid-1800s., and it retains most of its details in Fallout ®  76 as “Fort Defiance.” Today, you can tour the retired facility and learn about its roots to the Civil War raids, a gold robbery, the “curative” effects of architecture and more. Tours include museum rooms, overnight ghost hunts, nighttime paranormal tours, festivals flashlight tours, photo tours and a haunted house.

Mahalia Announces ‘In Real Life’ North American Tour Dates

Mahalia has unveiled the dates for the North American leg of her headlining In Real Life Tour. 

The 25-city trek begins Feb. 20, 2024, at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, British Columbia.

From there, the British singer will make stops in Seattle, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and New York.

The North American leg will conclude March 26, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois, at House of Blues. 

Presale tickets will be available starting Wednesday, Oct. 4. In the U.S., Citi cardholders will get exclusive access to presales beginning 8 a.m. local time until Thursday, Oct. 5 at 11:59 p.m. local time through the Citi Entertainment program. 

In Canada, American Express cardholders will get presale access for Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver beginning Thursday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time.

General on-sale begins Friday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. local time. 

Mahalia will launch the European leg of her In Real Life Tour  on Oct. 8 in Leeds, U.K. at O2 Academy. She will play in Manchester, Dublin, London, Paris, and Amsterdam before wrapping up on Nov. 7 in Berlin, Germany.

Mahalia’s tour is in support of her sophomore album,  IRL , released July 14 via Atlantic Records. A week later, she followed up with  IRL (Deluxe) , an extended version of the album that contains six bonus tracks.

IRL  includes features from JoJo , Destin Conrad , Joyce Wrice , Stormzy and Kojey Radical. 

IRL  is the follow-up to Mahalia’s 2019 debut album,  Love and Compromise .

Mandy Moore Is Going On Tour For The First Time In A Decade

The Y2K renaissance just got Moore exciting.

On March 8, Mandy Moore made not one but two huge announcements. First, she revealed her new album In Real Life will drop in May. Second, she’ll embark on her first North American tour in over a decade this summer. Yes, you read that right. After all these years, Moore is finally going back on tour. So if you’ve been waiting forever to see her in real life, now’s your chance.

In Real Life will mark Moore’s seventh studio album and her first record since Silver Landings was released in March of 2020. According to a press release, In Real Life will be Moore’s most personal album yet by highlighting her songwriting skills. Each track is said to include “both detailed storytelling and lucid self-reflection.”

Moore already brings us to tears with her moving performances on This Is Us , and it seems she’ll be pulling at our heartstrings with this record, too. She’ll be singing about her experience becoming a mother for the first time.

In September of 2020, Moore announced she and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, were expecting their first child . A few months later in February of 2021, they welcomed a baby boy named, Gus .

Mandy Moore Announces ‘Future-Tripping’ New Album ‘In Real Life’

Mandy Moore has announced a new studio album, In Real Life , which arrives May 13 via Verve Forecast, and it’s available for preorder . Her upcoming LP is the follow-up to 2020’s Silver Landings , which was her first new album in more than a decade.

The title track serves as the first single, which she shared on Tuesday.

“So much of this record came from future-tripping on the next chapter of my life and what it might look like: What parenthood would feel like, how it would change everything, and all the excitement and trepidation that comes with that,” Moore said in a statement. “At the same time, it was about celebrating and acknowledging where we were at the moment and really trying to be completely present in the everyday — which is maybe the hardest part of the human condition.”

Produced by Mike Viola, In Real Life was made in collaboration with Moore’s husband Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes and his brother and bandmate Griffin Goldsmith, Lucius’ Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, keyboardist Lee Pardini (the War on Drugs, Aimee Mann), and bassist Sebastian Steinberg (Sharon Van Etten, Phoebe Bridgers).

Moore said the album is about remaining open and “staying aware, staying sensitive and empathetic to the people around me. There’s something about expressing myself through lyrics and melody that makes me feel whole, and I see it as a privilege to have that outlet,” she explained. “And even though this album is very specific to me and my experience — there’s songs about my baby, my husband, my father, my friends — I hope everyone’s able to see their own lives in it. I hope they’re able to come along on the journey with me, and put themselves in the driver’s seat.”

She will embark on a North American tour following In Real Life ‘s release; the trek marks her first tour in more than a decade. It kicks off on June 10 at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, Georgia, and wraps up at Newport Folk Festival on July 24 in Newport, Rhode Island.

Mahalia Is Honest, Bold, And A Joy To Watch On The ‘In Real Life’ Tour

Four years, at least two relationships, and a global pandemic. That’s just a few of the things that Mahalia went through between the release of her debut and sophomore albums. At its end, the world received IRL (In Real Life) . The 13-song album, released in the summer of 2023, boldly declared the new independence that now rules her life. IRL bears the honesty that you can only appreciate from an artist putting their art into the world to be perceived and reacted to. Mahalia accepts the value of vulnerability and employs it in her music to let her audience know that her f*ck-ups are just like ours. Fame doesn’t make it any easier or better and the task of recovering from them is just as tall.

St. Patrick’s Day marked not only a national holiday that injects more green (and alcohol) into a room than a Boston Celtics game at TD Garden, but also the New York stop for Mahalia’s In Real Life North American Tour . On stage at Manhattan’s Irving Plaza, Mahalia joked about using the holiday to her advantage. “It’s St. Patrick’s Day so half of you are drunk anyway,” she said joking about the comfort she has in detailing her f*ck-ups through a number of the songs she performed. Before that came the promise to perform records from IRL and her 2019 debut Love & Compromise rather than producing a setlist that leans heavily on the most recent body of work as artists tend to do on a tour that follows an album.

The In Real Life Tour proves that Mahalia is an entertainer by all standards. Her stellar live vocals and choice of songs would’ve made for a great show by themselves, but the addition of her charisma and cheeky commentary with the audience added to the night by offering a wave of comfort rarely felt at concerts. Think of the energy that’s felt during a kickback with friends, except this time it’s a sold-out audience at Irving Plaza. Where artists who truly put on a show may use dancers as companions to their performance to captivate an audience, Mahalia opted for a simpler element: humor. She introduced songs with personal anecdotes told with a comedic spin that effortlessly won the audience over. It added more context and flair to her performances and left the crowd wanting to hear more from Mahalia – in terms of both her music and her stories.

Before singing “ Plastic Plants ,” Mahalia recalled a moment when her father was left to console a crying young Mahalia after they both watched High School Musical because she was sure she’d “never find a husband like Troy Bolton.” The memory also came after she admitted that America’s “f*cked up movies” about love have ironically inspired a number of her records. Later on in the night, she crowned herself a romantic and unproblematic girl. She then theorized that in order to be unproblematic, you must first be problematic, a conclusion that earned a laugh from the crowd moments before she worked into a glimmering performance of “Letter To Ur Ex.” Pairing her problematic theory with “ Letter To Ur Ex ” was perfect as the song is one Mahalia wrote after a fight between her and her partner sparked by the latter receiving a text from their ex. “You think you know all about me, huh?” Mahalia sings on the record. “You’ve never been me, but I’ve been you, girl.” Like Mahalia said, to be unproblematic, you must first be problematic.

With that being said, it wasn’t only jokes for Mahalia at Irving Plaza. A performance of “Isn’t It Strange?” is introduced with its backstory of Mahalia’s early struggles with finding a middle ground in her artistry between her small city roots in her hometown of Leister and her big city experience with her current time in Los Angeles. She tells the audience about creative struggles at one point in her career and how “In My Bag” helped her get out of it before singing it. She later confesses to being cheated on at 17 and how she wrongfully believed she could hurdle its effects. It led to a rendition of “Cheat” which was accompanied by the admission that being cheated on brought on more damage than she initially believed, leaving her to find a way to recover from the traumatic experience. This honesty seemed to be the theme of the night as Mahalia’s opener, Montreal singer Alicia Creti , also shined through her set with a story of heartbreak and self-discovery supported by songs from her recently released Self/Less EP. By the end of the night, through stories of tragedy and comedy, both Mahalia and Alicia allowed the audience to appreciate them more both for their music and for the humans that created them simply by being vulnerable with their fans.

The storytelling element, and the charisma that came with it, are really what stuck with me by the end of her performance at Irving Plaza. There were no doubts about Mahalia’s live singing abilities, and despite that, she continuously earned roars from the crowd as she belted out the lyrics to records like “Do Not Disturb” and “Cheat.” The applause was just as loud as she performed fan favorites like “Grateful,” “Terms & Conditions,” and “I Wish I Missed My Ex.” Mahalia was honest, bold, and fun for her New York stop on the In Real Life North American Tour. Her latest era produced a singer more comfortable in her skin, her past downfalls, and a story that isn’t the prettiest from start to finish. It was a joy to watch the artist who combined those things in a way that benefitted her the most and made for a night to remember.

How Walmart Spent Its Summer as a Megainfuencer For Black-Owned Businesses

The title of "influencer" is usually awarded to people with a massive online presence and equally large follower counts — or so we think. The truth is anyone — even the average person — can influence people, especially when it comes to sharing the products they love. In fact, promoting a brand via word of mouth is so effective, Walmart built its new experience, Black & Unlimited: The Shoutout , on the promise. And the best way to give something or someone their flowers is to show up and show out, which is exactly what The Shoutout did this summer.

Acting as a megaphone for Black-owned businesses, The Shoutout tour kicked off in June, popping up at partner festivals and events across the country. In July, The Shoutout stopped at Broccoli City Festival in Washington D.C.; there, The Shoutout held court with several activations. The goal: to increase the visibility of Black business creators, owners, and artists.

One activation included designing a literal shoutout — a countertop design bar featuring merch with pre-printed and artist-designed graphics. Festival goers could also grab a pre-loaded shoutout swag bag to fill with their choice of four Black-owned products, allowing them to keep two and give the others away to friends. And because you can't fall in love with a brand before you try it, everyone with a swag bag was able to sample products from Black & Unlimited brands, including Black Girl Sunscreen , The Shop , and Kazmaleje .

The Shoutout was busy in August, stopping at three events: Artscape in Baltimore, Sai Summer Cookout in D.C., and the Detroit Jazz Festival . Like Broccoli City Festival, these events serve as their own megaphones for the Black community. Artscape, one of the largest free outdoor art festivals, has attracted up to 350,000 in one weekend , while Detroit Jazz Festival was estimated to garner about 25,000 attendees . Sai Summer Cookout may be new (Chapter One launched last summer in Atlanta with 2,000 guests), but the annual event hosted by Marsai Martin is built to feel like "one big family reunion." The more intimate setting promotes even more conversation with games and a marketplace. The Shoutout stood at the cookout's entrance, welcoming in guests throughout the day.

Like Broccoli City Festival, the Sai Summer Cookout community was able to get creative at the Design a Shoutout Bar, try samples, and score some swag while they discovered brands and artists at Walmart's gallery wall of shoutouts. Every stop on The Shoutout tour also featured a photo opp with an oversized megaphone. Attendees snapped and posted photos encouraging their friends and followers to be a megaphone within their own communities, taking word-of-mouth influence to the next level.

Luckily, The Shoutout tour isn't over yet. It'll continue on through the fall, making a few more stops around the country. In the meantime, you can spread the word all on your own. All it takes is one text to the group chat: "I need to tell you about ___."

If you’ve spent countless hours visiting the TV world of “Stars Hollow” (I know I have), then chances are you’ve spent countless hours (or at least a few hours) wondering what small towns to visit to create your very own “Stars Hollow” experience.

And chances are, you may have heard that Washington Depot, CT is the inspiration for the TV show Gilmore Girls, and therefore the town to visit.

Well, I’m here to clear up that misconception. And to tell you exactly where to visit.

Unfortunately for the world of make-believe lovers, there is no one town to visit that is quite exactly like Stars Hollow. Your best bet for the full Gilmore Girls town experience would be to actually visit 4 towns:

Fortunately, they are all close together!

I don’t know why these 4 in particular are the ones to visit. I will say that almost the entire state of Connecticut is made up of cute small towns, all of which have something of a Stars Hollow vibe to them.

So you don’t have to limit yourself to these 4, but as they are the main accepted influences, I will focus on them.

And honestly, even of the four of them, although they all have things that make them like Stars Hollow, I don’t think they all necessarily “feel” like Stars Hollow.

So I’m going to give you my reviews of all four towns, and how ultimately “like Stars Hollow” each one is.

Litchfield feels a lot like an old colonial town. It is adorable and charming, but in my opinion, the least like Stars Hollow.

While Litchfield does have some Stars Hollow-y aspects, the architecture and the vibe of it just lend it more to a Revolution era town. It’s definitely worthy of being explored for that aspect, but honestly, as a Gilmore Girls town, I would say you can skip this one.

I didn’t visit any of the local restaurants in Litchfield, but I did visit the Tapping-Reeve House & Law School. I was very excited to find a “Scarecrows in the Field” festival going on while I was there! That was definitely a Stars Hollow type festival.

The traffic in downtown Litchfield was crazy! It was a weekend, so it would probably be less busy on a weekday.

Washington Depot is the first town I heard of being touted as the inspiration for Gilmore Girls. That makes sense, considering this is where the Mayflower Inn is located.

However, when I first visited Washington in 2019, I was disappointed with its complete lack of “Stars Hollow vibe.”

I must admit that after further research and my second visit to Washington Depot in 2021, I will give it more Stars Hollow points than I originally thought.

Washington Depot is small, and does not have the amount of cute storefronts the other towns have. They do have a town green with a white steeple church, but it is actually 10 minutes down the road from the main town.

However, they do have a local grocery store, and most elements of town life right nearby. Washington does feel like the most isolated small town. You can’t drive 2 minutes down the road to the actual grocery store, thus you actually do your shopping at Washington Food Market.

The elementary school is also right downtown, so I feel like I can imagine Amy Sherman-Palladino sitting in one of the cafés, looking out the window at all the people grocery shopping and little kids going to school, and start dreaming up her sitcom.

Ultimately, I feel like Washington is the least tourist friendly of the four towns, and has the least amount of fun things to do.

But , life in Washington Depot does have a lot of similarities to life in Stars Hollow. And you can buy a copy of the Gilmore Girls cookbook or a Rory Reading list book at the local bookshop.

The book sale was literally three times as large as the tiny library!

There are so many things to remind you of Stars Hollow in Kent! The architecture of the store fronts and houses downtown are very similar to those in the show. There are also a lot of local restaurants and shops that feel like they could fit right in to Stars Hollow, and they have a gazebo.

The very best part of my visit to Kent was that the library was hosting a book sale, that literally looked just like the one at which Dean so patiently waits for Rory (plus I got some great books!).

I think Kent has a strong Stars Hollow vibe going for it. What I don’t like about Kent is how spread out everything is. It doesn’t exactly feel like a cohesive town center to me, the way that New Milford does. Everything is stretched out along Main Street, or hidden away in several plazas behind Main Street.

But they definitely do have a lot for tourists to see.

New Milford was my favorite of the four towns. I personally thought it felt the most like Stars Hollow. At least, as long as I stayed in the downtown area.

The downtown is cute and thriving, and is located right around the New Milford town green. While most of the restaurants and shops don’t really correspond to a specific one in the show, there are plenty to choose from!

And talk about a downtown with a view! Most importantly of all, New Milford has a centerpiece: the gazebo!

For me this really ties the town together and gives it that feeling of small town charm. So even though it doesn’t have as many specific Stars Hollow elements as some of the other towns, I think the layout and design of the downtown area feels the most akin to it.

But I do have to mention, the fact that you can drive two minutes down the road and suddenly be surrounded by shopping plazas and chain stores does destroy a bit of that Stars Hollow illusion.

The Mayflower Inn is where the idea of Gilmore Girls was first hatched! Amy Sherman-Palladino was staying here when she was inspired to create the show, and the Independence Inn that Lorelei runs is based on this one.

The inn is a beautiful country-side retreat, which features several dining rooms and a spa. The original building was a school for young boys until it was converted to an inn in 1920. It has gone through several owners and renovations since then.

See absolutely gorgeous photos of the inn (so you can visit without actually visiting!).

However, if you are traveling on a “Lorelei budget” (as opposed to an “Emily budget”), it may be a bit much to try to visit. Rooms run from about $800-$1000 a night.

You could visit The Garden Room (for $150 3-course meal), or The Tap Room (for an affordable meal), and pretend you’re eating some of Sookie’s creations.

I was planning on visiting The Tap Room for lunch, but in all my planning, I did not book my table far enough ahead of time (…and honestly, I wasn’t too sad about not paying $24 for a burger).

Which Town is Most Like Stars Hollow?

One of the locals told me that Amy Sherman-Palladino used bits and pieces from all four towns to create the fictional metropolis we know and love. I can definitely see that. Here is my basic feeling of each town:

Litchfield:

Litchfield is a cute colonial town. It is nice to visit for American history, but low on my list of Gilmore Girls towns.

Washinton Depot

Washington Depot is credited as the influence for Stars Hollow. It has a lot of elements of Stars Hollow life, such as the local grocery store and the schools right downtown. It doesn’t have as much for tourists to do, and doesn’t have the charm or feeling of Stars Hollow.

The architecture of Kent really reminds me of Stars Hollow. You can find antique shops in beautiful old houses that look just like Mrs. Kim’s, wacky local restaurants, and a cute little book shop. But the downtown area is spread out all along Main Street, and not compact around any central area.

New Milford doesn’t have a lot of specific Stars Hollow stores, but it definitely feels the most like Stars Hollow. It has a local diner, plus lots of other shops, a cute movie theater, and is centered around the gazebo and town green. But it also is surrounded by chain stores, and doesn’t neccesarily give you that small town feel.

I scoured the web for places to stay in Connecticut that were affordable and cozy. And let me tell you, I found a lot that were super expensive. And some that were affordable, but not really cute.

And then I found the perfect AirBnB! It was absolutely perfectly decorated, had a cozy fireplace, little bowls of chocolate in almost every room… and the breakfast! It was SO good, I am 100% confident that Sookie could have made it.

Unfortunately, the people who owned the house sold it and moved (maybe I shouldn’t have bragged so much about it then…) so I can’t recommend it as a place to stay anymore.

In lieu of that, here are a few options to help you get started in your own search for the “Dragonfly Inn:”

The Litchfield Inn

(in Litchfield)

It’s not as cozy as our BnB was; it has more of an “Independence Inn” feel than a “Dragonfly” feel, but that’s still good! Their rooms are all uniquely decorated, and it looks really nice. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but, seeing as you can find a room under $200 here, it’s better than 90% of the other places I found.

Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant & Inn

This cozy inn is right along the main street in Kent, so you can just step out your door and walk to the local coffee shop, antique store or book sale! The rooms look cozy, at around $200 a night, though check for cheaper rooms seasonally. They are pet friendly, so if you want to bring Paul Anka (dog Paul Anka) with you, this is the place to stay!

Homestead Inn

(in New Milford)

This is a lovely bed and breakfast to stay at, right in downtown New Milford. Again, the rooms run around $200, but you can find some for less. Plus it comes with breakfast! They even have a Gilmore Girls section on their website.

(in Washington)

This one is a bit (a lot!) of a splurge. The rooms range from around $800-$1000! But it is the inspiration for Gilmore Girls, so maybe it’s worth a bit of an extra splurge. Visit on a week day to get a better price.

Or check out AirBnB for lots of great (and affordable) places to stay in the area. Just make sure you account for the all the extra fees when you compare prices!

Maybe you will visit during a festival, like this Scarecrow Festival in Litchfield, CT.

I personally think the best time of year to visit is October .

The leaves will (hopefully) be changing, plus fall feels the most “Gilmore-y” to me. But you might have great weather, or you might have a cold and cloudy day, so that will always be a bit of a gamble.

There are multiple festivals going on throughout the fall, so try to look out for those and plan to visit during a festival if you can.

My second choice would be Christmas time.

Just imagine how cute these little towns will look decked out in holiday decorations! The weather will be colder, but it will be perfect to snuggle up in a cute coffee shop with a mug of candy cane hot chocolate (if they still have any!).

You might even hit a fun Christmas festival!

(Some of the back roads may not be fun to drive on in the winter though…)

How long do you need?

Because the towns are so close together, you could easily get to all four in a day. In fact, to start at New Milford and go around to all four in a circle, and then back to New Milford, would only take an hour and a half.

However, if you want to really experience each town, eat at some of the restaurants, explore the museums, and spend some time chilling in the gazebo, it may be a little hard to try to fit everything into one day (or at least into your stomach).

I would suggest two full days to spend time exploring and enjoying all four towns.

Plus there are lots of other cute towns and fun things to see around the area, like Bridgeport, New Haven , Hartford or Mystic. You could easily fill up a whole week exploring Connecticut .

I expect to find tiny little one lane roads in England and New Zealand, but not really in the U.S. But so many of the roads in Connecticut just seemed so super tiny. Especially the roads around Washington Depot.

We also seemed to come across a lot of one-way bridges on our first trip to Connecticut, where you have to keep a look out and make sure no one is coming from the other direction. But I didn’t cross any on my second time through the state.

But you will definitely find some Instagram worthy scenic roads around here.

Luke’s Donut Shop

There is literally a bakery/cafe called Luke’s. Donut. Shop. If that’s not a call for every Gilmore fan to come visit, I don’t know what is.

While not officially in one of the 4 “Stars Hollow” towns, Luke’s Donut Shop is only about a half hour drive from Litchfield.

Their donuts were a very unique texture. They definitely weren’t the greatest donuts ever, but still…it’s Luke’s.

So fill up your Luke’s travel mug from Etsy, and get yourself a Luke’s donut to go with it!

Dottie’s Diner

Dottie’s Diner may be the best (Luke’s-esque) diner around, despite the fact it is located in Stars Hollow’s rival town of Woodbury.

It wasn’t in what I would call a very Stars Hollowy location, but the diner atmosphere may make up for that. Plus, they have homemade pies with homemade cinnamon whipped cream!

You can sit down and order breakfast, or you can just order something to go from the counter, like a muffin, or one of their famous donuts. I read over and over again that they had some of the best donuts in Connecticut, so obviously I had to check them out. And yeah, they were pretty good (especially heated up in the microwave).

Woodbury is about 20 minutes from New Milford.

What could be more Gilmore-y than to literally road trip across the state (preferably in a very old jeep) in search of pizza?

If you have a hankering for the dish while you’re in Connecticut, be sure to check out a stop or two (or more!) along the Connecticut Pizza Trail !

Thorncrest Farm & Milkhouse Chocolates

I found this farm and chocolatier several years ago when I was researching things to do in Connecticut, and I’ve been looking forward to trying their chocolate ever since!

Thorncrest Farm & Milkhouse Chocolates is a dairy farm, and they make chocolate from their own cows’ milk. The chocolate is definitely more expensive than I realized, but it was delicious! You can also meet the cows, and, if you’re lucky, see a baby calf that’s only a couple weeks old.

I was worried it might be too far out in the middle of nowhere, but I don’t think it was really that bad (I’ve definitely been to places further in the middle of nowhere!). The road it’s on isn’t paved, but it’s still a pretty wide road, and you don’t have to go too far down it to get to the farm. All the roads leading up to theirs are paved, and it’s only about a 10 minute drive from Litchfield.

State Parks

Kent Falls State Park

Visiting a state park is a great way to work off some of those doughnuts you’ve ( I’ve ) been eating! And it’s a great way to see some fall foliage, if you’re there at that time of year. Note: Many CT state parks require you to pay a parking fee on your smart phone for out of state vehicles.

Other Gilmore Girls Places to Visit

Unionville, Ontario, where the pilot episode was filmed!

Connecticut doesn’t have a monopoly on charming small towns. In fact, there are several in, wait for it… Canada , that are rather reminiscent of Stars Hollow.

One, in fact, was actually the filming location for the pilot episode, before they moved to the studio lot!

Basically all of New England has adorable small towns with white steeple churches and colorful fall foliage. But did you know that the town seen for just a moment at the very beginning of every Gilmore Girls show’s credits is actually South Royalton, VT?

This perfect little town has a bookshop, white steeple church, town green, and, surprisingly, a HUGE number of restaurants: Tacos, pizza, burgers, coffee & more? Sound like Stars Hollow to anyone else??

The Warner Bros. Studio Lot

Stars Hollow is one of the many sets you can see on the Warner Bros. Studio tour in Burbank, California.

Usually during the holiday season they even have a special Gilmore Girls Holiday tour!

Did you know you can visit the filming location of Chilton School? It’s actually a mansion in Beverly Hills (and it’s actually the filming location for SO many things!).

The park at Greystone Mansion is open to the public (for free), but the mansion itself is only open for special events (or you could rent it for a really expensive wedding…).

Other Show Settings

Stars Hollow, while the most charming, isn’t the only setting where the show takes place. Here is a list of several other real life places you can visit and pretend to be Lorelai & Rory:

The Heeler home… for real life!

On a leafy street in the heart of Brisbane, something magical has happened… the Heeler home from Bluey’s world has been recreated, for real life – and is now listed on Airbnb!

There’s lots of familiar touches like the red letterbox, bone-shaped chimney, and bay window.  Inside, Kiddos can snuggle up for sleepytime in Bluey and Bingo’s bedroom with Floppy and Grey Dancer; or invent a game or two in the girls’ playroom with its rainbow canopy, kiwi rug and toys – including beloved Polly Puppy and Chattermax.

The backyard is a verdant oasis for family fun, with a BBQ, kids’-sized trampoline, Grannies’ car, custom toadstool seats and dog garden gnomes (Gerald’s there – but alas, no Hecuba). Yummy snacks can be found in the fully stocked kitchen, including Bandit’s famous duck cake.
