Ulta Beauty

Why it's worth it:  Even though the Airwrap Long is an extended version of the original that's intended for long hair, thanks to its larger (and longer) attachments, its abilities extend far beyond curling. Like the original, the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Long Complete Set uses an aerodynamic technique called the  Coanda effect . What does that mean? The tool propels air at a precise and consistent speed and pressure to create a spinning vortex around the six attachments, creating a sleek look with minimal heat or hair damage.

On top of its original hair-enhancing Coanda effect technology, some of the attachments have a few upgrades to point out as well. Now, both curling barrels feature a rotating cool tip to change the direction of airflow, so no more shuffling between left and right attachments. The Firm and Soft smoothing brushes were also tweaked to provide more airflow between bristles, creating a quicker and sleeker at-home blowout.

Tester feedback: "The first time I tried the Airwrap multi-styler, I was stunned. Not only did it give me the same effect as the original, but it did it in less than half the time," says Allure market editor Angela Trakoshis. “How? This is all thanks to the new technology in the brushes (the airflow was so much stronger), and the fact I didn’t have to swap barrels was such a game-changer. To give you the entire play-by-play, here’s exactly how I styled my hair.”

Best Blow-Dryer Brush for Curly Hair: Shark Beauty SpeedStyle Hair Dryer

Shark Beauty

Shark Beauty SpeedStyle Hair Dryer

Allure shopping director Shanna Shipin using Shark's Beauty SpeedStyle Hair Dryer.

Why it's worth it: If you're willing to drop some dough on a high-quality styling tool but not quite ready for Dyson -level dough, give Shark's Beauty SpeedStyle Hair Dryer a whirl. We know it's technically a classic hairdryer, but what sets it apart from others is its innovative attachments—one being a frizz-defying Quicksmooth Brush, which instantly turns it into a blowdryer brush. Its lightweight stature is notable, too: This high-speed hair dryer weighs less than two pounds, making it one of the wrist-friendly styling tools on the market.

Tester feedback: "My beauty routine was forever changed when I started using the Shark Speed Style. Prior to discovering the part-blow-dryer, part-blow-dry brush, I was a hair straightener faithful. (Despite years of self-styling, I could never figure out how to create the perfect tension in my own hair when using a standard blow-dryer!)," says Allure shopping director Shanna Shpin. "The key is that the Shark has a large, fanned brush with boar bristles to simultaneously grab the hair and smooth it out, creating that amazing heat-and-tension combo that my hair really responds to. What's even better is that the head swivels so you can get close to the roots without needing to moonlight as Gumby. What you get is a natural-looking, bouncy blowout in 30 minutes—every time. I can't live without it!"

Best Blow-Dryer Brush for Bounciness: Drybar The Double Shot

Drybar The Double Shot

Allure deputy digital director Kara McGrath using Drybar's The Double Shot Blow-Drying Brush.

Why it's worth it: The Drybar The Double Shot packs everything we love about visiting a Drybar salon into a handy yellow hot tool. The Double Shot blow dryer brush uses ionic technology to reduce frizz and a combination of nylon and tufted bristles for a thoughtful balance of tension and control. The brush is lined with vents which assure good airflow, and leave your hair nice and bouncy. If you have very thick or very long hair, you can do a preliminary rough dry with a regular blow dryer to prep for The Double Shot.

Tester feedback: "If you want people to ask if you just got a professional blowout—that is, super smooth with loads of bounce—Drybar’s The Double Shot Oval Blow-Dryer Brush is the tool for you," says Allure content director Kara McGrath. "Since the barrel is larger than others, it gives tons of volume, but is still thin enough to create some curls as well (and to really get into the cowlick that curses my bangs)."

Amika Double Agent 2-in-1 Straightening Blow Dryer Brush

Allure commerce writer Jennifer Hussein using the Amika Double Agent Blow-Dryer Brush

Why it's worth it:  The Amika Double Agent is a blow-dry brush that dries  and  straightens hair—which is to say, if polished strands are your thing, you'll never have to use another hair tool again. This all-in-one brush replaces most of your heated tools with its innovative blow-dryer-straightener format and paddle brush design. This brush features the works: heated ceramic bristles in its core for smoothing hair, a negative ion generator to lock in moisture and create sleeker-looking results, and flexible outer comb teeth that glide through knots and tangles without breaking your delicate strands.

Tester feedback: "When I need speedy, under-10-minute styling, this is my secret weapon," says Allure commerce writer Jennifer Hussein. "Its drying time is seriously impressive on my thick, absorbent strands that usually take 30 or more minutes to style with conventional blow-dryers and straighteners."

Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0 black blow dryer round brush on light gray background

Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0

  • Why it's worth it: If you haven't already seen one of the many  Allure  editors and  TikTokers  raving about the  Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus 2.0 , you have some serious catching up to do. This baby has four temperature settings that'll get you your desired look, no matter the texture. This brush's innovative, groundbreaking design (which has inspired many copycats) is so good that we gave it a 2022 Best of Beauty Award. This under-$100 tool gets bonus points for having a slightly smaller brush head than the  original  (better for those with shorter hair or seeking extra volume) and a slimmer handle that's easier to grip.
  • Tester feedback: Allure  contributor Symphony Barnes reported that she ended her search for an easy-gliding experience once the One-Step 2.0 landed on her radar. She explains that she was able to "simply use the One-Step as I would a big heated straightening brush."
  • The more you know: Barnes noted that this brush is pretty noisy, so it's not the best option for night showerers—especially if you don't live alone.
  • Product highlights:  3 heat settings, no attachments, 2.4-inch barrel |  Who it's for:  medium to thick hair, all hair textures

Best Travel-Size Blow-Dryer Brush: BaBylissPro Nano Titanium Compact Hot Air Brush

BabylissPRO

BaBylissPro Nano Titanium Compact Hot Air Brush

  • Why it's worth it: Going somewhere you'll want to take a million photos with (hopefully) good-looking hair? Remember to pack the small yet mighty BaBylissPro Nano Titanium Compact Hot Air Brush. This mini blow-dryer brush deserves a spot in your hair-care routine for its combination of detangling bristles and a titanium barrel that evenly distributes heat for a glossy, smooth finish without damaging strands. The two-inch barrel can yield a straight blowout, but we also recommend it to create loose, beachy waves and curls.
  • The more you know: Since this pick is compact, you should separate your hair into smaller sections while styling to create the sleekest, most even results.
  • Product highlights:  3 heat settings, no attachments, 600 watts |  Who it's for:  All hair types and textures, especially short hair

Best Blow-Dryer Brush for Thin Hair: GHD Rise Hot Brush

GHD Rise Hot Brush in black color way on light gray background

GHD Rise Hot Brush

  • Why it's worth it:  The 1.25-inch barrel on the GHD Rise is the perfect size for giving hair gorgeous volume and body. This blowout brush keeps the heat consistent at 365 degrees Fahrenheit, but its cooling tip will keep you from getting burned. It's designed for styling dry hair, so don't try using this on soaking wet strands. Senior beauty editor Paige Stables loves using it on her wavy, fine hair. "With the easy-to-use design, I'm able to achieve the same look I would get from round brushing every section of hair—in half of the time," she says. "Much like a really good blowout, the results last for days."
  • The more you know: This ultra-slim brush is especially great for thin hair, but thicker hair types may want a sturdier option, like GHD's Glide .
  • Product highlights:  1 heat setting, no attachments, 25-second preheat time |  Who it's for:  all hair types, especially thin or fine hair

This styling device has two heat settings plus a separate cool setting button for an air-dry effect. The beauty of this device is its two interchangeable attachments: a tourmaline ceramic barrel for blowouts and a volumizing pick to comb through curly, thick hair.
  • The more you know: The heat settings on this brush are meant to style without frying your strands, which is why they can seem too low for some. To create the sleekest, frizz-free look, try dividing your hair into smaller sections before styling.
  • Product highlights:  2 heat settings, 2 attachments, 1,000 watts |  Who it's for:  all hair types and textures

Best Interchangeable Blow-Dryer Brush : T3 Airebrush Duo

T3 Airbrush Duo in white and silver color way on light gray background

T3 Airbrush Duo

Bluemercury

  • Why it's worth it:  Endless blowouts  and  super straight hair are just one hair tool away, thanks to  T3's Airebrush Duo . This  Allure  Best of Beauty winner gives you options thanks to the interchangeable barrel and paddle brush styling attachments. Each attachment is made with a ceramic base and a mix of nylon bristles and firm pins for a smooth, shiny, and knot-free finish. If this brush's interchangeable attachments don't entice you, 15 heat and speed combinations for a truly customized approach to drying and styling your hair definitely will.
  • The more you know: Like most blow-drying brushes, the Airebrush's interchangeable heads work best on slightly damp—not soaking wet—hair. For the best results, "Start at the root and work your way down to the ends without putting too much heat or tension on the hair," stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew previously told Allure .
  • Product highlights:  5 heat settings, 3 fan speed settings, 2 attachments, 900 watts |  Who it's for:  all hair types, especially fine hair

Best Blow-Dryer Brush for Second-Day Hair: Hot Tools 24K Gold One-Step Hair Dryer

Hot Tools 24K Gold One-Step Hair Dryer in black and gold color way on light gray background

Hot Tools 24K Gold One-Step Hair Dryer

  • Why it's worth it:  What makes the  Hot Tools 24K Gold One-Step Hair Dryer  so good? Is it the sleek design, or the two types of bristles that detangle and smooth hair? After lots of pacing, we're here to tell you it's both. The  2020 Best of Beauty winner  has three temperature settings to make blowing out your hair  so  much easier, even if you have tighter curls or kinks.
  • The more you know: This brush features charcoal-infused bristles, which are said to absorb oil from strands to give you a perfect second-day blowout, but don't rely on this alone to degrease unwashed hair—you'll need a dry shampoo to help with that.
  • Product highlights:  3 heat settings, 3 fan speed settings, no attachments |  Who it's for:  all hair types and textures

Even with the fanciest hot tool, the key to a glorious blowout starts with prep, prep, and more prep. Always start on clean, detangled, and damp hair with a bit of leave-in conditioner , advises New York City-based hairstylist  Takisha Sturdivant-Drew . Sturdivant-Drew tells  Allure  readers, "Start at the root and work your way down to the ends without putting too much heat or tension on the hair."

Volume is even easier to achieve, especially for straight or wavy textures. "Twist the dryer as you go in a circular motion to add volume if that's what you are looking for," says Sturdivant-Drew. If your hair is on the curly or coily side and you're going for a sleek look, you can follow up with a  flatiron  or brush it out with the heat  off . "If you want it straight, you should use the blow-dryer brush and, right under it, use another brush to smooth those kinky strands all the way out," she explains.

To minimize the risk of heat damage, opt for a blow-dryer brush that features several temperature settings, so you can better moderate the amount of heat your hair is undergoing. Not all hair types call for the same heat level, so if you're getting acquainted with a new blow-dryer brush, pay attention to how your hair reacts to different temperature settings as you become more familiar with the tool.

Another tried and true defense mechanism is to prep your blowout with a  heat protectant . Cosmetic chemist  Ginger King  tells  Allure,  "If you're using heat styler or any heat products directly on hair, using a heat protectant, usually made with meadowfoam seed oil, light polymers, or even silicone, can help to minimize damage as they can form a coating on hair." But, the best way to fend off heat damage? Try not to overuse heat on your hair—plain and simple.

Choosing a new hair tool is a matter of personal preference, but shoppers and professional hairstylists alike vouch for the ease of use of blow-dryer brushes. "I predict that soon, all consumers will be using blow dry brushes when styling their manes," Hairstylist  Devin Toth  tells  Allure.  "Drying your hair with two hands (a brush in one hand and a blow dryer in the other) could become a thing of the past. Less effort and more efficiency will always be the trend," he adds. Additionally, if you have pain or limited mobility in your hands or arms, a blow-dryer brush is an excellent alternative to a traditional blow-dryer.

Blow-dryer brushes come in a range of designs, so depending on the type of barrel, bristles, or shape of your tool, cleaning techniques may vary. "Every brand has different features, but if yours has a filter, remove the dust from it every week," says Toth. "If you are interested in removing hair from the bristles, use either a comb or a boar bristle brush cleaner—a brush used to clean other brushes," he suggests.

If you want to remove product buildup from the bristles of your blow dryer brush, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth.  Cherin Choi , a Los Angeles-based hairstylist, previously told  Allure  that if product buildup won't budge, she uses a small amount of rubbing alcohol to tackle residue from hairsprays, pomades, and the like.

Remember that cleaning your hot tool regularly is critical to peak performance. "[The product/hair buildup] can prevent your tools from working at full capacity," Atlanta-based hairstylist  Tukia Allen  told  Allure . Brian O'Connor , a Nashville-based hairstylist, agreed with Allen, adding that a hot tool with buildup can lead to the "uneven heating of the hair."

We always enlist a range of testers for our makeup vertical, but hair-care products and tools are another story. While there are certain products that can be used across different hair textures, lengths, curl patterns, thicknesses, colors (natural and unnatural), and needs, hair products are often created with specific consumers in mind. Many are created in order to address a concern (dandruff, breakage, brittleness) or to work most effectively for a specific hair type (4C curls, wavy hair, gray hair). You wouldn’t want to pick up a purple shampoo that’s only been reviewed by someone with, say, auburn hair, or a diffuser that’s never been tested by anyone with curls— right?

For our review of the best blow-dryer brushes, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and stylists—each of whom have different hair types, experiences with blow-drying, and desired outcomes. Testers considered performance across four primary categories: efficacy, versatility, ease of use, and value. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page .

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the " best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

9 Best Blow Dryer Brushes for a Perfect At-Home Blowout

travel blow dryer brush

All products are independently selected by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission.

There are times when hot-tool hybrids can feel gimmicky, but the best blow dryer brushes combine two beauty products to become much more than the sum of their parts. It just works —and you can find an endless stream of TikTok videos and glowing reviews to prove it.

I've been a flatiron devotee for more than 20 years, but hair dryer brushes are slowly converting me—especially as new and innovative options that style with less heat damage or double as a curling iron enter the chat. If you’ve never used one before, picture your favorite round brush with a cord on the end, enabling it to blow heat as you set your style.

To help you find one for that perfect blowout, we tapped professional hair stylists to find out what matters when shopping for the two-in-one tool. We also asked our expert editorial team—a group with different hair types and lengths—to find out what brand they use and love. Then we put close to a dozen to the test, evaluating each for ease of use, heat setting features, and overall performance.

T3 Aire 360 Ceramic Air Styler Blowout Kit

T3 Aire 360 Ceramic Air Styler Blowout Kit

  • What we love: Less heat damage; lightweight and easy to use; comes in an easy-to-store thermal pouch; works quickly
  • What could improve: Our testers fingers kept accidentally changing the heat settings
  • Bristle material: Nylon “boar”
  • Heat settings: Three
  • Weight: 1.2 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: People who want the power and versatility of the Dyson, but can't justify the price

The T3 wins for best blow dryer brush overall because it strikes a really sweet spot—it's half the price of some comparable dryers (like the Dyson!) and is just as versatile. We were quite impressed with the tool’s styling prowess, too, whether using it as a blow dry brush or a curling wand. Overall, it's a fantastic value.

Using this hair tool felt like a luxury experience, from unboxing to the actual styling. Compared to other dryers, it was relatively quiet. It comes in a beautiful hexagonal box that houses a pouch rather than a bulky, hard-to-store box. The tool is also one of the lighter options we tested, making it possible to style even long hair with little to no arm fatigue. “I have very long hair, so I appreciated the size of the brush and the fact that it does a good job detangling as you work,” says Glamour contributor Brigitt Earley . “I was able to grab larger chunks of hair without sacrificing smooth, frizz-free results, allowing me to dry my hair much faster than I typically can with other hair dryers and dryer brushes I’ve tried.”

Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus

Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus

  • What we love: Great tension; leaves hair soft and shiny; capable of grabbing a lot of hair at once
  • What could improve: Short cord
  • Bristle material: Nylon ball-tipped pins, boar
  • Heat settings: Four
  • Weight: 1.63 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: People who want a powerful, no-frills dryer brush at a great price

We have raved about Revlon’s One-Step Volumizer at length, and now the brand has a new iteration of the beloved hot tool to gush over. The new blow dryer brush offers everything the OG did—and a smaller handle, a smaller brush head to give you more control over your style, and a fourth heat setting to suit a wider range of hair types.

Earley put it to the test on her mid-back length wavy hair , and was impressed by what she saw in the mirror. “I tried the original Revlon One-Step, and loved it, but was wary of how hot it got—even for my relatively thick hair,” she says. “This one didn’t singe the roots (or my forehead!) quite like the original, but still left my hair incredibly smooth and shiny in only about 20 minutes, which is great considering how long my hair is.”

Revlon OneStep Volumizer Plus

Best for Frizz : Amika Blow-Dryer Brush

Amika Blow Dryer Brush

Amika Blow Dryer Brush

  • What we love: Quieter than others we evaluated; three speed settings
  • What could improve: Some users find the handle uncomfortable
  • Bristle material: Nylon ball-tipped
  • Weight: 2.5 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: Curly girls prone to frizz

9 Shoe Trends to Know (and Shop!) Ahead of Fall

Amika’s popular offering has staggered long and short bristles that make short work of flyaways and frizz, while the large oval barrel delivers a mirror-like finish every time. For customization, the brush also has three heat settings to suit various hair types from fine to coarse.

Glamour contributor Macaela MacKenzie swears by the extra-smooth results. “It does take a little getting used to if you haven't tried this type of dryer before, but the results are worth the learning curve,” she says. “My hair is significantly smoother and less frizzy, and it takes the same amount of time to dry.” We also like that this blow dryer brush was significantly quieter than some others we tried—great for those with roommates or snoozing kids.

Best for Long Hair : InfinitiPRO by Conair DigitalAIRE

InfinitiPRO by Conair DigitalAIRE

InfinitiPRO by Conair DigitalAIRE

  • What we love: Very lightweight; comes with four attachments; housed in an easy-to-store bag
  • What could improve: Short cord; not as durable as other options
  • Bristle material: Not listed
  • Who it's best for: People who want a less expensive multi-styler that still works well

Like luxe dryers including the T3 Aire 360 and the Dyson Airwrap, Conair's new launch comes with four different attachments (a round brush, a paddle brush, a curling wand, and a regular dryer) all housed in an easy-to-store thermal drawstring bag that we found was much more convenient than the bulky box some of its competitors come in. It's also a fraction of the price of its competitors.

Overall, we love the versatility of this hair tool—particularly given the price point—and found that it worked surprisingly well, especially on finer hair that’s easier to style. One of the biggest advantages is that it's exceptionally lightweight. Even after working through a full head of very long, coarse hair, Earley said she didn’t feel any arm fatigue.

Best for Travel : CHI Volumizer 4-in-1 Blowout Brush

CHI Volumizer 4-In-1 Blowout Brush

CHI Volumizer 4-In-1 Blowout Brush

  • What we love: Comes with four interchangeable attachments; great tension
  • What could improve: Hair occasionally gets tangled in the brush
  • Bristle material: Nylon and tufted
  • Weight: 2.04 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: Curly girls who log a lot of miles

There’s a lot to love about the CHI Volumizer: frizz-reducing ionic technology, four attachments for versatile styling (round brush, paddle brush, and diffuser), and a shiny finish no matter which add-on you choose. But the thing everyone loves the most about this blowout brush is how much tension you get. In tests, we found the two-tiered bristles really grab the hair to give you that straight, glass-like result that can be hard to achieve with your average dryer brush. It's compact size also makes it a great travel hair dryer brush.

“I've tried close to a dozen blow dryer brushes over the years, and this one undoubtedly gives the best tension,” says Earley. “Just be sure to section hair well—especially if you have wavy or curly hair. The tradeoff is that hair does occasionally gets a little tangled in the brush.”

Best Splurge : Dyson Airwrap Styler

Dyson Airwrap Styler

Dyson Airwrap Styler

  • What we love: Six attachments; two-year warranty; dries and styles at the same time
  • What could improve: Extremely expensive
  • Bristle material: Firm plastic; ball-tipped plastic; nylon pin
  • Weight: 1.5 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: People with damaged or color-treated hair

Undoubtedly the buzziest option out there, the Dyson Airwrap comes with a whole set of attachment tools that allow you to quickly style your hair as it dries, blending the concept of a thermal blowout brush with that of a self-curling iron. The best part is that it’s powered by air—not extreme heat—making it a much gentler experience, especially important for those with fine or damaged hair .

The price may be jaw-dropping, but Danielle Sinay , Glamour's associate beauty editor, says it's “the one beauty splurge that I swear is totally worth it.” She says it's single-handedly replaced all of her previous hair tools, since it takes less than half the time to dry and style her hair to wow-worthy results. “And most importantly, it actually gave me confidence when it came to styling my hair.”

  • What we love: Great for shorter hair; gentle on fine hair; two types of bristles help add volume
  • What could improve: Some users say the overall size of the brush is too big
  • Weight: 1.32 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: Creating loose waves in fine hair

Re-create your favorite Drybar blowout at home with the brand’s Single Shot Brush, which features its signature sunshine yellow shade and glossy results. Cutout vents direct maximum airflow for a fast blowout, while the nylon and tufted bristles add enough volume to make you look like you just stepped out of the salon chair.

This particular thermal brush is especially recommended for creating loose curls in fine, short hair, since the barrel is a sleek 2.25 inches. It does, however, have three different temperature settings to help you customize your style sesh. We love that, even though it's relatively large overall, this is one of the lighter blow dryer brushes we evaluated, making it easier to wield. “While I love my Drybar flat iron on my curly hair, this tool didn't get quite hot enough for me, so I found I still needed to go over my hair with another hot tool after,” says Glamour commerce director, Brie Schwartz . “But, of all the blow dry brushes I've tried, this was the easiest to operate on my short, fine hair.”

Best for Coarse Hair : Hot Tools 24K-Gold One-Step Blowout

Hot Tools 24K Gold One-Step Blowout

Hot Tools 24K Gold One-Step Blowout

  • What we love: Great for coarse, long hair; lightweight
  • What could improve: May get too hot for fine hair
  • Bristle material: Nylon ball-tipped pins; boar-style
  • Weight: 1.4 lbs.
  • Who it's best for: People who like a lot of heat to get the job done quickly

The black and gold design isn’t just there to make this Hot Tools brush look good. According to the brand, the 24-karat-gold plating helps conduct more even heat distribution to prevent potential hot spots. At the same time, those charcoal-infused bristles keep scalp oils in check, helping maintain hair health from root to end (while giving you shiny, bouncy results).

After evaluating this hair dryer brush, we think it's best for those with coarse and curly hair as opposed to fine hair. It gets exceptionally hot, which is great for taming frizz, but may be too intense for more delicate strands. The brush is also on the larger side (despite being one of the more lightweight options on our list!), which also makes it a great pick for those with long hair.

Best Customizable : Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System

Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System

Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System

Image may contain Head Person Face Body Part Neck Happy Smile and Teen

  • What we love: Very versatile styling tool; four heat settings; works quickly
  • What could improve: Doesn’t come with storage case
  • Bristle material: Nylon; boar
  • Who it's best for: People who only want a single tool but like to wear different styles

Shark’s FlexStyle comes with a plethora of attachments: a drying concentrator, two 1.25-inch curlers (one for each side of the head), and two brush attachments. The oval brush is meant to smooth, de-frizz, and add volume (similar to a salon blowout), while the paddle brush is ideal for straightening and smoothing hair (similar to a flat iron sans the heat damage). You can even customize your styler by purchasing other compatible attachments a la carte to expand styling possibilities. No matter which attachment you use, there are four heat and three airflow settings to choose from. There’s also a cool shot button to lock in your style.

“I was surprised by how quickly and how well this dried my long, coarse, and wavy hair,” says Earley. “The end result was smooth and silky—not all that different from my beloved straightener, but thankfully, so much better for my hair.” If you're looking for something a little more affordable, Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle loves to use the SmoothStyle Heated Comb and Blow-Dryer Brush on her thick, coarse hair. Adds Glamour reviewer Anna Vognsen , “I have wavy, thick hair and I was surprised by how much this cut my dry time down to. Traditionally a blow dryer takes over 40 minutes, but I could go from wet to dry in 15 with this tool.”

Temperature

Blow dryer brushes typically have multiple heat settings. The most basic has just high and low settings, while more sophisticated models have may have three or four, providing more customization for your hair type. Keep in mind that coarser, curlier hair generally requires higher heat, while lower settings are more appropriate for fine hair. A cool shot button is also a nice option to have, as this helps lock in your style.

Most blow dryer brushes are made with nylon or boar bristles; some are comprised of a combination. Boar bristles grip and smooth, so they're ideal for those who want to eliminate frizz, Nylon bristles tend to do a better job detangling hair, which can be helpful for those with curly hair or dry, color-treated hair.

Overall, our editors—and the hairstylists we talked to—say these all-in-one styling tools are game-changers for hair styling, especially if you reach for one with even more versatility, like our top overall pick the T3 360 Aire, which can also double as a curling wand. These hair tools are great for travel, too, since you’ll have less to pack to make your hair look great on vacay. However, our reviewers with short and mid-length curly hair said they weren't ideal for them.

The professional hairstylists we spoke to all recommended blow dryer brushes to make wet hair bouncy and beautiful in the comfort of your own home. Kaitlyn Ellsworth, co-founder of The Roslyn , actually called them “the best thing since sliced bread for at-home styling.” But they caution: These hair tools can get exceptionally hot, so it’s crucial to apply a heat protectant before getting to work to protect your strands from damage. You should also start with your hair at least halfway dry to achieve the best results.

FlexStyle Multi-Styler for Curly & Coily Hair

BEST HAIR DRYER BRUSH FOR CURLY HAIR

Shark beauty flexstyle multi-styler for curly & coily hair.

When it comes to giving yourself a perfect, bouncy at-home blowout, there's perhaps no tool that's more valuable than a hair dryer brush. A 2-in-1 solution, a blow dryer brush styles and dries hair in one step, combining the styling of a large round brush with the drying power of a hair dryer . Bristles detangle and smooth hair while heat dries it, giving salon-level results in a single step — usually in less time (and with less arm fatigue) than a traditional hair dryer/brush combo.

In our most recent test of hair dryer brushes in the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab , our experts evaluated 10 products for ease of use, performance, drying time and more. After evaluating the results from our testing (including nearly 11,000 temperature readings!), we've rounded up the best of the best.

Our pros test and vet hair products every day, from styling tools like the best straightening irons and hair straightening brushes to top-rated hair dryers , hair brushes and more — so we know what makes a good hair tool. For more information on what makes a great hair dryer brush from our Beauty Lab pros, scroll to the bottom of this article. And if you want more information on how to get your best hair at home, check out our guide to the best hair tools and how to use them.

Get a shiny, salon-caliber blow-out at home with this easy-to-hold Amika blowdryer brush: 100% of testers agreed this brush was best for creating perfect style and volume on all hair types . Testers found this gives a pro-level blow dry while boosting hair’s fullness, all while having gentle heat. "I also liked that they use two types of bristles (short and long) as it grabbed the strands of hair and glided through," said one.

This pick has the longest cord for easy styling and was the only winner with wrap for storage. It's also the quietest hair dryer brush we tested, although we do wish it had a cool setting to help lock in styles.

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer Hot Air Brush

With over 480,000 Amazon reviews, Revlon's cult fave One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer lives up to its reputation: It achieved the fastest rate of drying hair in Beauty Lab testing. The brush's shape allows for smoothing and glides easily through even the roughest hair textures. “I liked how the brush head was large, which allowed it to dry more hair at once,” a tester reported.

“It was good for creating smooth, straight hairstyles,” although it gets exceedingly hot during use, so be careful not to use it on soaking wet hair and use it alongside a heat protectant. The tool also ranked highly for having simple-to-follow instructions and boosting hair's shine.

Shark Beauty FlexStyle Multi-Styler for Curly & Coily Hair

Most blow dryer brushes are already perfect for curly-haired people since they combine smoothing and blow drying into one streamlined step, but if you want to embrace your texture, this pick is unique because it allows you to style natural hair straight or curly, thanks to diverse attachments and a swiveling base that also lets the tool function as a traditional hair dryer / diffuser combo. Bonus: the diffuser has adjustable prongs to suit different hair lengths.

The brand claims the tool is less damaging than other tools, and we found it operates around 183ºF on average. One Beauty Lab analysis confirmed it had one of the fastest drying times we've seen. One tester with thick, curly hair loved the smoothing brush and found that styles lasted for days. It's expensive and a bit heavier than a traditional hair dryer brush, but we think the versatility makes it worth it.

Hot Tools Professional 24k Gold Charcoal Infused Blowout Styler

Professional 24k Gold Charcoal Infused Blowout Styler

True to its name, Hot Tools won the gold for effortlessly combing through and speedily styling even dense, coarse or curly strands. The controls were also the simplest to use compared with the other models, thanks to a rotating temperature control with three heat settings and vent platforms for faster drying on even super thick and curly strands .

In Beauty Lab evaluations, 100% of expert testers found that it styled hair fast and combed through strands with ease, although it's among the heaviest traditional blow dryer brush we tested, so be prepared to put some elbow grease into perfecting your 'do. “I was surprised by the speed and how fast my hair went from wet to dry,” a user commented.

Drybar The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush

The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush

In Beauty Lab evaluations, we found that this efficient hair dryer brush had the gentlest heat among the products we tested, reaching a maximum temperature of 167°F over five minutes of use, nearly 100ºF lower than the competition — meaning it will prevent hair from getting overly exposed to heat while still effectively styling .

The brush’s narrow barrel and smaller surface area make it ideal for fine or short to medium-length hair. Minus the cord, the brush itself weighs in at just under a pound, and one tester found it comfortable to hold and that the brush combed easily through her hair. “I got great volume with this, yet my hair felt really smooth — it was comparable to a blow-out from a salon,” another marveled. “Much better results than using a regular dryer and separate brush,” another user noted.

Style Craft Hot Body Ionic 2-in-1 Blowout Hot Air Brush

Hot Body Ionic 2-in-1 Blowout Hot Air Brush

In Lab tests, this brush got the highest scores for leaving hair looking shiny and frizz-free. The mixed pattern bristles give hair height and body; the longer plastic bristles detangle hair while the shorter, bushier bristles smooth hair into a glossy sheet. It's also one of the lightest-weight dryer brushes we tested, clocking in at just 1.3 pounds with its cord, so you won't get too fatigued halfway through your blowout.

However, this tool got the hottest during use in Lab tests, so be sure you use a heat protectant and use on partially-dried hair. Our testers also found there was a bit of a learning curve when it came to understanding and maneuvering this tool, and we wish there was a cool shot button.

Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler

Airwrap Multi-Styler

In addition to two 1.2-inch barrels and two 1.6-inch barrels for curling, the dryer comes with useful attachments for blowing out hair straight, including a pre-styling dryer, a firm smoothing brush, a soft smoothing brush and a round volumizing brush. The paddle brushes use Coanda technology to guide air flow down the shaft of the hair, mimicking a salon blowout, which is highly effective but takes some getting used to at first.

What makes it even more amazing? It combines powerful airflow with controlled heat to dry your hair as it styles with less damage, making it a favorite amongst GH Beauty Lab pros. One GH editor with thick, curly hair says, "the Airwrap is the only hair dryer brush I can use to keep my hair straight and less damaged than traditional counterparts." Dyson also just launched a brand new Airwrap for curly hair that comes with a diffuser and an even larger round brush to add more volume — while our pros haven't Lab-tested the launch yet, our editors say these upgrades are perfect for catering to curls.

If your arm gets tired from pulling hair round and round, snag t his rotating pick that does the work for you. The smaller-than-average 1 ½-inch barrel is perfect for shorter styles , and the spinning mechanism rotates in two directions to create natural-looking curls and waves on dry hair in between washes.

While we haven't tested this pick in the Lab, the brand claims the ceramic technology dries damp strands and adds lasting shine, although some reviewers say that the rotating mechanism takes some getting used to at first.

How we test hair dryer brushes

double line break

In our most recent hair dryer brush tests, we evaluated 10 oval dryer brushes with Lab tests and at-home usability tests. In the Lab, we assessed drying speed and air flow and used thermocouples to measure each tool's temperature — our Lab pros logged 10,980 temperature readings as part of this test.

We also measured quantitative factors like weight, size and cord length, and partnered with Quiet Mark, a third-party certifier, to assess each tool's loudness. At home, our expert testers evaluated the dryer brushes and filled out a detailed survey on ease of use, performance and overall satisfaction. After parsing through the data from 784 questions gathered from 49 questionnaires, we found the very best hair dryer brushes you can buy.

How to choose the best hair dryer brush

linebreak

✔️ Heat settings : Multiple heat settings are ideal to work on a range of hair types and textures; lower heat settings are great for fine or damaged hair while higher heat settings are good on healthy or thicker, coarser hair types. Our Beauty Lab pros recommend a tool with a cool shot to help seal in styles as well.

✔️ Bristles : Most hair dryer brushes are made with either pin bristles or boar-type bristles, or a combination of both. Pin bristles do a good job at detangling hair , while boar bristles grip and smooth hair (though they can sometimes add too much tension, we found in Lab tests). If you're looking to smooth out frizz or make hair look super shiny, look for a dryer brush with boar-style bristles. If you're more focused on detangling, pin bristles are great. In expert evaluations, some testers liked bristles of varying lengths to grab every last hair.

✔️ Cord length: The length of cord you'll need depends on where you'll be styling and if there's an outlet nearby. For ultimate flexibility, look for a professional-length cord of at least eight feet. Less expensive models tend to have shorter cords, but that may limit your ability to style freely — you may not have an outlet near a mirror!

✔️ Ease of use : In our tests, ease of use, comfort when styling and intuitiveness of the controls are all important considerations. Look for a tool that feels balanced in your hand, easy to grip and isn't too heavy.

Are hair dryer brushes damaging?

linebreak

Like any hot tool, they can be if you don't prep hair properly. Exposing hair to excessive heat for long periods of time can cause damage to the structure of hair, so to prevent excessive damage, our Beauty Lab pros recommend coating hair in a heat protectant before use and letting hair partially air dry before using a hair dryer brush.

The 8 Very Best Blow-dryer Brushes

This ’90s tool is making a comeback..

Blow-dry brushes may seem like a new invention, but they’ve actually been around since the ’80s. While the blow-dry brushes of the past were cumbersome, today’s iterations are more sophisticated, combining the process of blow-drying with a round brush into one easy-to-use tool. I’ve been following hair trends for years (it’s a part of the gig), and after the virality of the Revlon One-Step brought the tools back into the spotlight, there are now plenty of options to choose among. “Blow-dryer brushes take away the shoulder fatigue and allow more mobility and ease,” says Drew Schaefering , master stylist and senior educator at  Rob Peetoom Salon . And just as a blowout with a round brush creates a voluminous style, these blow-dryer brushes act as an all-in-one styling tool. Ahead, six experts on their eight favorite blow-dryer brushes, plus my thoughts on some of my favorite models.

Update on September 10, 2024: Updated prices and checked stock for all products.

What we’re looking for

Heat settings.

Blow-dryer brushes exist in different sizes, shapes, and strengths to suit all sorts of hair lengths and textures, but generally our experts prefer blow-dryer brushes with multiple heat settings. The more heat settings the brush has, the better you can customize the dryer to your hair’s needs. Lower heat settings are a must if you have fine, fragile, or damage-prone hair so you don’t cause unwanted heat damage, while higher settings are best if your hair is thicker.

Bristle type

You’ll also want to pay attention to the type of bristles the brush has. Our experts generally prefer brushes with a combination of nylon and tufted bristles, which they say help create the best tension and control for styling most hair types. Ceramic bristles are also a good option as they help distribute heat evenly to prevent excess-heat damage to hair.

Cool setting versus no cool setting

Ideally your brush will have a cool-shot button or cool setting, which can help to set and lock your style.

Best blow-dryer brush overall

Drybar The Double Shot Blow-dryer Brush

Heat settings: 3 heat settings | Bristle type: Nylon and tufted bristles | Cool setting versus no cool setting: Cool setting

It’s not surprising to see the Double Shot take the top spot, coming from a brand well known for its blowout salons. The brush has a combination of tufted and nylon bristles, which allows for both tension and control to give the hair less frizz and more shine. As I mentioned in the criteria above, temperature control lets you tailor your blow-dry to your hair type. The Double Shot has three settings: cool, medium, and high. I used the medium and cool ones only, which gave my fine hair shine and bounce without it feeling fried. While I usually find blow-drying to be a slightly strenuous activity, the Double Shot clocks in at just 2.6 pounds, something my wimpy wrists appreciated. I also noticed that the strategically placed vents on the brush allowed for greater airflow, which resulted in a speedy blowout. And it’s powerful enough to be fast, confirms stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew , whose celebrity clients include Kerry Washington and Renee Elise Goldsberry. It works well on a variety of hair types and particularly well for those with longer hair. (If you have shorter, thinner hair, consider Drybar’s smaller model: the Single Shot .)

Best (less expensive) blow-dryer brush

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

We’ve written about the older version of the Revlon One-Step, which features a paddle-brush design instead of a round brush. It’s been widely praised by Amazon reviewers with natural hair, and a writer for Strategist U.K . was thrilled that it dried her natural hair efficiently and quickly while requiring the use of only one hand. “With my other hand free to help section as I went, my hair was left fantastically blown-out, without a hint of dampness to be found,” she wrote. The old model racked up more than 5,000 reviews after going viral, but this newer version is even more popular with more than 170,000 reviews on Amazon. It also comes recommended by the professionals we spoke to.

A word of caution, though, to my fellow fine-haired folks: I tried out the Revlon One-Step when a well-meaning, curly-haired cousin offered to let me borrow her beloved blow dryer brush and it was way too hot for my hair to handle. As Sturdivant-Drew, who is also a fan, notes, the blow dryer will help you achieve a smooth, no-frizz look but is best for those with thick and curly hair types. Stylist Jessica Lee thinks that blow-dryer brushes are particularly helpful for people with coarse and curly hair who typically have to use two hot tools to style their hair, she explains. A blow-dryer brush can be a great two-in-one, while also cutting down the amount of heat that is applied to the hair, preventing heat damage caused by excessive styling.

Best blow-dryer brush with multiple attachments

Dyson Airwrap Styler

Heat settings: 3 heat settings | Bristle type: Ceramic bristles | Cool setting versus no cool setting: Cool setting

Earlier this month Dyson released a new model of its AirWrap called the AirWrap Complete. While a majority of our experts praise Drybar’s brush, many noted that its single barrel is a big downside, limiting the hair lengths the brush works for and styles it can create. Another reason to splurge for the updated Dyson: It comes with a whole slew of attachments so you can style your hair in a variety of ways. The biggest difference I found when testing is the curling barrels: With the original model, you had to swap the barrels out mid-style. Now you can change the airflow from clockwise to counterclockwise, which makes the process much easier and faster.

For someone looking for versatility the Dyson Airwarp Styler is “an all-around Swiss army knife for blowing out hair,” says Schaefering. Another fan, Lee, admires the versatility and high-powered airflow, but she points out that at almost four times the price of Drybar’s version, it’s quite an investment. Still, Schaefering says, the cost is justified. “One of the main points of difference between a high-end machine like the Dyson Airwrap and a less expensive brand is the quality of heat and the control of the temperature,” he says. While any blow-dryer brush can get the job done in terms of drying the hair, machines like the Dyson measure the air’s heat hundreds of times per second to make sure you aren’t getting more than your hair can handle, which ultimately means less heat damage. In addition to the regular Airwrap Complete, Dyson also released a new kit designed specifically for curly/coily hair, which includes a wide-tooth comb attachment, as well as a kit for long hair, which includes longer curling barrels.

Best (less expensive) blow-dryer brush with multiple attachments

Shark FlexStyle Air-Drying & Styling System

Heat settings: 4 heat settings | Bristle type: Nylon and tufted bristles | Cool setting versus no cool setting: Cool setting

Launched this past fall, the FlexStyle is Shark’s answer to Dyson’s Airwrap. Clocking in at $300, the FlexStyle is half the price of the Airwrap and utilizes the same high-speed airflow technology and a variety of attachments. The FlexStyle for straight and wavy hair comes with five attachments: a round brush, a paddle brush, a concentrator nozzle, and two curling barrels. For curly hair, there’s a bundle that swaps out one of the brushes for a diffuser. I appreciated that the FlexStyle has a rotating handle that swivels down to turn it from a styler into a more traditional hair dryer. Plus the base of the wand works as a dryer without any attachments. The main difference comes down to curling. The FlexStyle has two barrels: one that curls hair to the right and one that curls hair to the left, which is how the original version of the Airwrap worked until Dyson improved its tech. The latest Airwrap has barrels that can blow air in both directions, which I find makes styling much easier. So while I will still opt for my Airwrap, if you don’t want to drop $600 on the original, the FlexStyle offers a similar experience for half the price.

Best versatile blow-dryer brush

T3 AireBrush Duo Blow-Dry Brush

Heat settings: 5 heat settings | Bristle type: Nylon and tufted bristles | Cool setting versus no cool setting: Cool setting

T3’s Airebrush Duo is my favorite for versatility because it offers five heat settings and three speed settings, the most of any brush on this list. That’s 15 different styling combinations. I especially appreciated this, since my fine hair doesn’t need high heat, so the lower settings were perfect for me. But this tool still packs plenty of punch if you need higher temps. And, because it features an interchangeable paddle brush and a round brush, you can use it for both blowouts or for straightening. (If you don’t need the paddle attachment, T3 does offer the Airebrush without it, for $40 less.) The brush is also easy on the eyes and easy to use: The nylon and tufted bristles moved through my hair easily without snagging and created a bouncy, shiny, frizz-free blowout.

Best blow-dryer brush for short hair

JINRI Hot Air Brush

Heat settings: 2 heat settings | Bristle type: Nylon and tufted bristles | Cool setting versus no cool setting: No cool setting

This little round blow-dryer brush has a 1.25-inch barrel, making it ideal for shorter hair. And while it’s small, it’s also mighty. Lee says it adds lots of volume while smoothing out your curls. Like the above, it has two types of bristles to smooth out the root, and it has two heat settings and a tourmaline barrel to help with frizz.

Best blow-dryer brush for medium-length hair

Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus

Revlon has released an updated version of its original One Step, which features a more compact size and a thinner barrel. While it does work for all hair lengths, the smaller brush head is specifically designed for those with medium-length lobs and shorter bobs. It features the same power the original is known for, but now with one extra heat and speed setting. But, as I’ve noted before, Revlon’s brushes get very hot, so people with damage-prone or fine-textured hair should steer clear. However, if you have a thicker hair type, and need that extra heat and power to achieve a silky, frizz-free blowout, this is a great, affordable option.

Best lightweight blow-dryer brush

L'ange Le Volume 2-in-1 Volumizing Brush Dryer

The main appeal of a blow-dryer brush is that you no longer have to use two tools to style your hair, which can be tedious (not to mention exhausting for your arms). With that in mind, it’s important that your two-in-one tool doesn’t weigh too much, defeating the entire purpose of a blow-dryer brush. De La Paz likes this one because of how lightweight it is. “I highly recommend this for elders or anyone being mindful of injuries,” he says. At a mere 1.25 pounds, it’s among the lightest on this list. (Drybar’s model is a touch lighter, but it’s also $50 more.) Beyond size, it has lots of other appealing features: multiple heat settings; ionic technology, which tackles frizz; and a mix of nylon and tufted bristles, which helps with volume and detangling.

Remember to switch your hair tools to 220V/240V when you arrive to your destination! Read this post to learn about voltage vs adapters for hair tools .

Hair Dryer vs Blow Dryer?

The terms “hair dryer” and “blow dryer” mean the same thing – they are just words used by different countries. The terms are both referring to a hair tool that is used to dry your hair.

What is a dual voltage travel hair dryer?

A dual voltage travel hair dryer has two voltage options: 110-120V and 220-240V.  They are ideal for travel because they are safe to use at home and abroad, too.

Some electronics, such as newer Macbooks and iPhones have dual voltage that automatically adjust in their destination. However, other electronics such as hair tools you need to adjust the voltage manually by moving a switch.

Why do you need a dual voltage hair dryer for international travel?

Voltage refers to electricity; different countries have different types of electricity. This means that your electronics are the same voltage as the country in which you bought them so if you take them to another country, they may not work.

For example, in the US we use 110-120V whereas in Europe they use 220-240V. If we plug our electronics into each other’s outlets they can blow a fuse and stop working. In some cases, they can even fry your hair.

Visit  this  website for a full list of voltage by country.

Your blow dryer needs to have two things in order to work in other countries:

  • The correct voltage
  • A travel adapter

Hair tools such as blow dryers, wands, curling irons, and straighteners use up a large amount of electricity so it’s particularly important that they are used with the correct voltage.

Some hair tools are designed so they can be used in different countries. This means they’ll be labeled as “dual-voltage”.

Compass Rose Universal Travel Adapter

A travel adapter enables you to plug your non dual-voltage electronics into international outlets. Not all countries use the same type of plug so I recommend you buy an international adapter like  this .

Visit this  power outlet guide for travelers  to see a full list of plugs and outlets by country.

What’s the best travel hair dryer dual voltage?

All of the options listed in this post are compatible with international voltages to make it easier to take them anywhere in the world.

What’s the best travel hair dryer for Europe?

If you’re from the US and traveling to Europe, Asia, Africa, or the South Pacific including Australia and New Zealand then a dual voltage hair dryer is absolutely essential. If the one you use at home has the dual voltage feature then you can also use it on your travels, too.

Remember to switch your hair tools to 220V/240V when you arrive to your destination !

Visit  this website for a full list of voltage by country.

These compact and handy blow dryers will not only save space in your luggage but give you the best  hairstyles during your trip!

Tracy Jackson

The babyBliss hair dryer lasted for 2 and 1/4 blow drys. 2 and 1/4. That’s a lot of money, figuring cost per use.

Hi Tracy, I am really sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with your baby bliss hair dryer 🙁

Eloisa

Hi! I have the BaByliss Tourmaline Titanium 1500 and I love how small and light it is. But for my hair I really need a diffuser or else it just looks puffy. Do you know if there is any diffuser out there that will fit it? Thanks!

Need some help. I am reading the 10 best hair dryers however I have lots of fine hair that I wear in a spiky short (3”) style. I have to blow dry it or it’s totally flat around my face ???. Hotel hair dryers especially in Europe are dreadful. I have tried several hair dryers that have been disappointing. Hard to be fashionable no matter what you are wearing with bad hair. My question …. which dryer has the strongest blowing power especially with Europe voltage. Headed to Italy. Thanks in advance for the help

Hi Laurie, thanks for your question! We’ll share your question here so the author of the article can reply. 🙂

Fadz

Hello. Echoing Laurie’s question. If i may ask which travel size hair dryer has strongest blowing power equivalent to those at the saloon? Im headed to italy

Hi Fadz, thank you for reaching out. The T3 Micro Featherweight is a small but powerful blow dryer, and the Conair Vagabond is also powerful. Katie V

I swear by the Sephora Collection travel dryer. Dual voltage, super powerful, has a defuser and only costs $33 CAD! It’s probably one of the best dryers I have used ever, not just against other travel styles, but regular as well.

alex

Good tip Katie thank you!

What to Keep in Mind

Your questions, answered, why shop with us.

InStyle / Brian Kopinski

Being both beauty and travel editors has taught us many important lessons. But, perhaps this is the most valuable of them all: Hotel blow dryers are not it. Fortunately, tech has only improved and nowadays, wherever we are in the world, we can give ourselves a gorgeous blowout in minutes with a hair dryer that is lighter and much smaller – but just as powerful – as the one we leave at home. And despite their compact size, these next-gen travel hair dryers don't compromise hair health and some are even designed for specific hair types, like curly, thick or damaged hair, with settings to protect delicate strands.

“While travel blow dryers are often smaller and more compact, they typically have everything regular dryers have,” explains master stylist and founder of Yvey Salon , Yvey Valcin. “Despite the size differences, they work very well and you can get nearly the same results that you would get from your regular blow dryer.”

Best Overall

Chi 1875 series advanced ionic compact hair dryer.

What We Love: This blow dryer works exceptionally well on all hair textures, including thick and coarse.

What We Don’t Love: This device does not come with a travel bag.

This small but mighty Chi blow dryer has an 1875-watt motor to dry hair in no time, but it also features a ceramic heater that offers even heat distribution, which ultimately helps minimize damage. On top of that, the innovative tool produces negative ions that smooth and seal cuticles, while still giving hair volume and body. Plus, it comes with a removable air concentrator nozzle – a wide, flat attachment that directs airflow into smaller, more concentrated areas of your hair to help you style with ease – that can be used to create ultra-sleek blowouts. As for the best part? There are three different heat settings – lukewarm, medium, and hot – which means users can customize the heat depending on their preference. Pro tip: Top off your style with the cool shot button to lock in looks and help further eliminate frizz.

As a fun bonus, this device has a blue LED light that creates cleaner air during the styling process by decreasing bacterial buildup inside the hair dryer. With so many stellar features there’s a lot to love about this compact dryer, but we do wish it came with a travel bag to make storing it a tad easier.

Watts: 1875 | Heat Settings: 3 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Cold shot button, included concentrator and diffuser, blue LED light | Weight: 2 pounds

Best Budget

Lura mini portable travel hair dryer.

What We Love: When folded, this affordable blow dryer is smaller than an iPhone.

What We Don’t Love: The diffuser attachment is very small, so it may take a long time to adequately dry curly hair.

Not only can you create various styles with  this tiny tool, which is smaller than an iPhone, using its diffuser and concentrator, but it also features two heat settings (low and high), two speeds (slow and fast), and 1200 watts to get the job done quickly. That said, the diffuser attachment is very small, too, so it may take a long time to adequately dry curly hair with it.

Complete with a shiny silver travel bag as well as a two-pin plug adapter that works in most European countries, the dryer comes with everything you’ll need to style your hair from anywhere in the world.

Watts: 1200 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, diffuser, travel case, adapter plug | Weight: 0.68 pounds

Best with Folding Handle

T3 afar travel dryer.

What We Love: This blow dryer has three heat settings, two speed settings, and a cool shot feature.

What We Don’t Love: While this tool quickly and efficiently dries thinner hair, it can take a while for thicker, coarser hair to get dry.

This tiny tool has a foldable handle that makes it easy to store, as well as an automatic dual voltage feature that adapts based on where you are. “It's the perfect travel companion, ready to save your hair from bad hair days no matter where in the world you find yourself,” says master stylist and founder of Gregga LA , Gregga Prothero . “It may be small, but it packs a powerful punch, delivering fast and efficient drying while reducing frizz and static.”

Thanks to three heat settings (which include warm, hot, and an innovative cool shot feature that locks in styles) as well as two speed settings (low and high), you can easily customize the settings to fit your hair’s texture, length, and dampness. (It’s worth noting that this tool doesn’t blow out extremely hot air, so if you have thick, coarse, or very long hair, you might have to spend extra time drying it.) It also has an ion generator that infuses the air with negative ions to help reduce static and frizz while also smoothing the hair cuticle to ensure a glossy, high-shine finish. As if that wasn’t enough, it comes with a cute vegan leather travel case and a clip-on concentrator.

Watts: 1500 | Heat Settings: 3 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, cool shot, travel case | Weight: 0.68 pounds

Best for Long Hair

Mane this totally blows ionic compact hair dryer.

What We Love: Between its diffuser, nozzle, and wide-tooth comb attachment, thicker hair types have options whether they want a sleek blowout or to embrace their natural waves.

What We Don’t Love: The additional attachments could hog extra space in your suitcase.

Sure, thick hair is great in theory but, trust us, when it comes to wash and style days we’re ready to throw in the towel, especially when we’re bumping up against walls in tiny hotel bathrooms and cramped spaces while traveling. Mane understands that this hair type comes in all shapes in sizes, from big bouncy waves to long straight tresses, and the brand thoughtfully included three different attachments to help manage them all: A wide tooth comb for quick straightening, a nozzle that delivers hot hair right to the root for maximum volume, and a diffuser for days you want to rock your au-natural ringlets.

Of course, no good deed goes unpunished and these added bells and whistles will take up a bit more space in your suitcase. On the flip side, you may be able to ditch some of your styling serums and oils since this hair dryer delivers great results all on its own.

Watts: 1875 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Diffuser, cool shot | Weight: 0.84 pounds

Best Dual Voltage

Ghd flight+ travel hair dryer.

What We Love: This smart blow dryer automatically switches off when it’s held too close to hair, which helps protect strands from heat damage.

What We Don’t Love: This blow dryer's airflow only reaches 149 degrees, which means it’s not ideal for someone with very thick hair.

The Ghd Flight Travel Hair Dryer is the ideal beauty tool when it comes to traveling internationally for more than one reason. For starters, it has dual voltage capabilities, so it can be used virtually anywhere in the world, no matter how dire the outlet situation may be. On top of that, it won’t weigh down luggage since it clocks in at a mere 0.99 ounces. And if you’re a carry-on-only type, you’ll love its foldable design so you can squeeze it into most totes and smaller luggage.

This travel blow dryer has two heat settings, a cool shot setting, and one speed setting, allowing it to be customized to your liking (that said, the hot setting only reaches 149 degrees, so it won’t be very efficient at blow-drying very thick hair). Plus, it comes with a protective travel case that can shield the blow dryer from damage. As for the coolest feature, it’s quite literally the safety technology that automatically powers down the device to a lower temperature if it’s held too close to hair. This unique feature shields hair from heat damage and prevents the tool from overheating.

Watts: 1300 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 1 | Special Features: Cool shot, travel case | Weight: 1 pound

Best for International Travel

Babylisspro nano titanium travel dryer.

What We Love: Because it is dual voltage it can be used anywhere in the world.

What We Don’t Love: It does not offer a medium heat setting.

Looking for a convenient, reliable, and affordable hair dryer to accompany you on your next international trip? We have just what you need. This BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Travel Dryer has dual voltage, allowing you to use it no matter where your travels take you. It offers 1000 watts of power, meaning it won’t fry strands, but it will still dry them promptly. Plus, it has two different heat and speed settings (high and low), to best suit your hair type (use high heat if you have thick hair and low heat if you have thin hair). While these two settings work well, we do wish there was a medium setting for more customization.

This compact dryer also features a nano titanium technology that emits negative ions to give strands a healthy, glossy finish. And, to top it all off, it has a foldable handle, a six-foot-long cord, and it comes with an ultra-thin concentrator nozzle. Need we say more?

Watts: 1000 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, long cord | Weight: 0.6 pounds

Best Lightweight

Drybar baby buttercup blow dryer.

What We Love: This hair dryer features a fine mesh filter on the back that prevents hair from getting sucked in.

What We Don’t Love: The concentrator can fall off if it is not attached tightly enough to the nozzle.

Leave it to Drybar to make a lightweight, cute, and compact travel blow dryer. Weighing less than a pound, this foldable device can fit in any suitcase or carry-on and is the perfect hot tool to bring along with you, even if you’re traveling light. (We will note that the width of the head is a bit bigger than some of the other blow dryers on this list.) Designed with three power options to accommodate a variety of electrical outlets across the world without needing to worry about causing a circuit break.

With two heat settings, and a cool shot feature to set styles, the high-quality dryer helps you create a salon-worthy blowout. Plus, the concentrator nozzle provides you with the targeted airflow you need to create the hairstyle of your dreams. If you want to take your hair game to the next level, we suggest getting a hair serum , for quicker drying time and to fight frizz and protect hair from heat damage.

Watts: 1200 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, cool shot, travel bag | Weight: 0.8 pounds

Most Powerful

Jinri 1875w dual voltage travel hair dryer.

Complete 1875 watts, this small but powerful blow dryer can style hair in no time. In addition to a cool shot button to hold and set your final look, you can choose between a high heat setting to get your hair dried fast and a lower heat temperature if you’re going for a bouncy, salon-like blowout. Designed with a ceramic nozzle it produces airflow filled with negative ions that cling to hair and close the follicle, preventing frizzy flyways. Plus, it has two features that make it perfect to use overseas: The dryer has dual voltage capabilities and folds up, which means you can easily pack it into crowded carry-ons. Pro tip: To change the voltage, simply twist the knob at the bottom of the handle.

Watts: 1875 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, cool shot | Weight: 1.57 lbs

Eva NYC Mini Dryer + Bag

What We Love: This powerful little blow dryer radiates far-infrared heat and emits negative ions, which keeps hair looking healthy and shiny.

What We Don’t Love: This blow dryer does not have a cool shot feature.

Like most hot tools from Eva NYC, this portable blow dryer utilizes the power of negative ions. These negative ions are released from the tourmaline-infused ceramic nozzle into the hair, working overtime to lock in moisture and eliminate frizz and static. The result? Shiny, glossy hair, especially when you pair it with its dazzling shine spray . Plus, this innovative device radiates far-infrared heat, which is gentle on hair and ultimately reduces drying time, protecting strands from heat damage.

On top of shielding hair from harm, this blow dryer allows for different styling options, thanks to the concentrator and diffuser attachments. (The concentrator is ideal for creating smooth blowouts while the diffuser helps ensure curls keep their shape, sans frizz.) As for the final touches, this Eva NYC favorite offers dual voltage, has a foldable handle, and comes with a cute carrying case.

Watts: 1200 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, diffuser, travel case | Weight: 1.19 pounds

Best for Damaged Hair

Berta hair dryer.

What We Love: This travel blow dryer emits negative ions and has a cool shot feature.

What We Don’t Love: The rear vent cap is not removable, so there is no way to clean out the grate in the back of the dryer.

If you have damaged hair and don’t want to air dry it (guilty), opt for this Amazon bestseller. This Berta blow dryer has three heat settings – low, high, and a cool shot feature. The low heat setting is ideal to use if you have damaged hair because it’s warm enough to efficiently dry hair, yet cool enough to protect strands from heat damage. Additionally, it emits negative ions into the hair, which increases shine while decreasing static. If you really want to keep your hair healthy, we suggest using a heat protectant spray both before and during your blow-drying session so you can ensure your mane is safe from harm.

As an added bonus, this foldable tool is extremely quiet, so if you’re sharing a hotel room with someone, it won’t be bothersome. Plus, it has a handy hanging ring so you can store it on the back of the bathroom door, freeing up countertop space for your other beauty essentials.

Watts: 1875 | Heat Settings: 3 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, cool shot | Weight: 1.53 lbs

Best Blow Dryer Brush

Plavogue hair dryer brush.

What We Love: This lightweight tool features an anti-scalding comb that protects the scalp from heat.

What We Don’t Love: It’s loud.

This 1000-watt powered hot air brush detangles, straightens, and styles strands — and quickly. What’s better, the brand designs the brush with nylon needles and tufted bristles that won’t rip out hair, and it has anti-scalding capabilities that protect the scalp from getting burned.

In terms of traveling, this blow dry brush has a dual-voltage plug you can use anywhere and comes with a carrying case that protects it from getting scratched and damaged. It’s worth pointing out that this device is a bit loud when it’s in use, so keep that in mind if you’re traveling with someone or will be in close quarters.

Watts: 1000 | Heat Settings: 3 | Speed Settings: 3 | Special Features: Travel bag, two hair clips, 360-degree swivel cord | Weight: 1.83 lbs

Best for Frizzy Hair

Conair mini travel hair dryer for on-the-go styling.

What We Love: This mini blow dryer features tourmaline ceramic technology that helps protect the hair from heat while also adding shine and reducing frizz.

What We Don’t Love: The cord is less than five feet long, which means it’s shorter than most.

Complete with tourmaline ceramic technology that works hard to protect hair from heat damage, this top-rated Conair hair dryer stops frizz before it happens. This technology produces negative ions that enhance shine and provide hair with noticeable glossiness. As for its features, this blow dryer offers two heat and speed settings (high and low), which work well with all hair types, and it also comes with a concentrator and diffuser, letting you get creative with your hairstyle.

Aside from getting a blow dryer with special tourmaline ceramic technology, Prothero recommends other tips for keeping frizz at bay while styling it. “To reduce frizz when blow drying your hair, you should be using the proper anti-frizz serum that also protects your hair from heat,” she says. “Apply the lightweight formula to towel-dried hair before blow drying.” By doing this, the hair oil   will be able to provide frizz control as well as heat protection.

Watts: 1200 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, diffuser, travel case | Weight: 0.68 lbs

Best with Diffuser

Ohjump hair dryer.

What We Love: This small tool has strong fans that produce fast wind speeds in order to dry hair quicker and reduce heat damage.

What We Don’t Love: The concentrator can get hot if it’s left on too long, so try to use it for 10 minutes or less at a time.

What do you get when you pair this blow dryer’s diffuser with curly hair? A match made in heaven. The Ohjump Mini Travel Hair Dryer comes with a top-rated diffuser attachment that keeps curly hair, well, curly. Thanks to strong fans that create high wind speeds, this tool can deliver hot gusts of wind straight through the diffuser to hair. The efficient diffuser helps define and set curls without the addition of frizz.

Plus, this tool has two heat and speed settings – high heat with high speed, which provides a strong airflow that dries hair fast, and low heat with low speed, which creates a soft air flow that helps to smooth strands (this setting is great for wavy hair). On top of that, this foldable blow dryer is small and compact, and even features dual voltage options. It also comes with a travel bag and an EU plug adapter.

Watts: 1875 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, diffuser, travel case, adapter plug | Weight: 1.23 pounds

Best for Curly Hair

Hot tools compact hair dryer.

What We Love: This small blow dryer comes with a unique diffuser that creates gorgeous curls and waves.

What We Don’t Love: This device produces very hot air that can burn the scalp if it is placed too close to the head.

This bestselling Hot Tools dryer is one of our favorite curly hair products , thanks to its slew of thoughtful features, and accompanying finger-style diffuser – a rarity among travel hair dryers! – making it especially great for coils and curls, but if you’re going for carefree beach waves, this diffuser will help keep those bends intact, too. For starters, this device has three different heat settings. On top of that, this blow dryer comes with a unique, finger-style diffuser that’s made to lift hair, add body, and maintain curls or waves without creating frizz. It also comes with a concentrator that can create bouncy blowouts. Plus, this blow dryer emits negative ions that condition and smooth hair, making it shinier and more lustrous.

Like any worthwhile travel hair dryer, it features dual voltage properties and the easy fold-up design lets you squeeze it into an already jam-packed suitcase.

Watts: 1875 | Heat Settings: 2 | Speed Settings: 2 | Special Features: Concentrator, diffuser, cool shot | Weight : 1.55 pounds

  • Compact Size: The main draw for getting a travel hair dryer is its small and compact size. When shopping for a portable blow dryer, be sure that it’s foldable and under two pounds. (Luckily, all 14 devices on our list are less than two pounds!) This will ensure it can fit in tight spaces and won’t weigh down your luggage.
  • Wattage/Voltage: In terms of traveling with a mini blow dryer, it’s important to keep the wattage and voltage in mind. The ideal wattage for a portable blow dryer is anywhere between 1200 and 1900 watts. Most full-size blow dryers are closer to 1800 watts. This is true in both the U.S. and overseas. However, the voltage differs. “In many countries, electrical voltage is 220/240 volts, while in the U.S., hot tools are 110/120 volts,” says Prothero. “Some travel hair dryers have dials that allow you to switch between voltage making them great for international use.” Make sure the device you have offers dual voltage (each blow dryer on this list does), and ensure you bring a travel adapter no matter what the wattage is.
  • Speed: Travel blow dryers might look small, but don’t doubt their power. Most of them pack a strong punch, offering high wind speeds as well as hot heat settings. To ensure your travel blow dryer can dry your hair, be sure it has a wattage of 1200 or up. If you really want to dry your hair quickly, opt for a blow dryer with closer to 1900 watts.  The higher the watts, the speedier it’ll dry your strands.

Are travel hair dryers different from regular hair dryers?

Ultimately, the main difference between travel hair dryers and regular hair dryers is the size. Celebrity hairstylist Mario Solis adds, “Travel blow dryers may have different voltages and sometimes even plug adapters.”

When picking out a travel dryer, make sure it checks off all the boxes you want. “Look for what the dryer is made of (ceramic, titanium, etc.), its wattage, its weight, and any special features you want,” says Prothero, who adds “You also want to look for adjustable heat, a cool setting, and the ability to use attachments such as diffusers, and concentrators.”

Depending on its wattage, a smaller hair dryer might take a bit longer to dry hair than its full-size counterpart, but having a reliable travel hair dryer is worth it. As Valcin explains, hotel dryers are often terrible for your hair’s health because “The heat coming from them is not controlled, which can damage your hair.”

Can I pack a hair dryer in my carry-on?

“Absolutely,” says Valcin. “There aren't any regulations for packing your dryer in your carry-on.” Plus, the best thing about packing a travel hair dryer is that they’re ultra-compact, which means they’ll barely take up any room at all.

The Convenience of Dual Voltage Dryer Brush

As someone who loves to travel, having the right tools in my luggage is essential. This includes my hair styling tools, especially my dryer brush. However, not all countries have the same voltage requirements, which can be a problem when it comes to using my usual dryer brush. That’s why I always make sure to bring a dual voltage dryer brush with me.

The main reason why a dual voltage dryer brush is necessary is because it can be used in different countries without the need for a voltage converter. This saves me the hassle and extra expense of purchasing a separate converter for every country I visit. With just a simple switch on the handle, I can use my dryer brush in both 110V and 220V outlets.

Another advantage of having a dual voltage dryer brush is its versatility. I don’t have to compromise on the quality of my hair styling even when I’m traveling. The dual voltage feature allows me to adjust the heat and speed settings according to my hair type, ensuring that I get the same results as I would with my regular hairdryer at home.

Moreover, having a dual voltage dryer brush also saves space in my luggage. Instead of bringing two separate tools (a hairdryer

My Buying Guide on ‘Dual Voltage Dryer Brush’

As someone who loves to travel, I understand the struggle of finding the perfect hair styling tools that can keep up with my on-the-go lifestyle. That’s why I highly recommend investing in a dual voltage dryer brush. Not only does it save space in your luggage, but it also eliminates the need for carrying multiple hair tools while traveling. In this buying guide, I will share my personal experience and tips on finding the best dual voltage dryer brush for your hair needs.

What is a Dual Voltage Dryer Brush?

A dual voltage dryer brush is a versatile hair styling tool that combines the functions of a blow dryer and a round brush. It has two heat settings and can be used on both 110-120V and 220-240V power outlets, making it perfect for international travel. This means you don’t have to worry about voltage converters or adapters while styling your hair abroad.

Consider Your Hair Type

Before purchasing a dual voltage dryer brush, it’s important to consider your hair type. If you have thick or coarse hair, opt for a model with higher heat settings to ensure efficient drying and styling. On the other hand, if you have fine or damaged hair, look for one with lower heat settings to prevent further damage.

Look for Additional Features

Aside from its dual voltage capability, there are other features that make a dual voltage dryer brush stand out from others on the market. Look for models with ceramic or tourmaline technology as they help reduce frizz and add shine to your hair. Some models also come with interchangeable attachments such as combs and diffusers to cater to different styles and textures.

Check Its Size and Weight

Since you’ll be using this tool while traveling, it’s important to consider its size and weight. Look for a compact and lightweight model that won’t take up too much space in your luggage. Some models also come with a foldable handle, making it even more compact for travel.

Read Reviews and Compare Prices

Before making a purchase, make sure to read reviews from other customers who have used the product. This will give you an idea of its performance and durability. Additionally, compare prices from different retailers to get the best deal. Keep in mind that a higher price doesn’t always guarantee better quality.

Don’t Forget About Safety

Safety should always be a priority when choosing any electrical device, especially when traveling. Look for models with safety features such as automatic shut-off and heat protection to prevent accidents while using the dual voltage dryer brush.

Investing in a dual voltage dryer brush is definitely worth it, especially if you’re someone who loves to travel. It’s convenient, versatile, and saves you from carrying multiple hair tools while on the go. Remember to consider your hair type, additional features, size and weight, read reviews, compare prices, and prioritize safety when purchasing a dual voltage dryer brush. Happy styling!

6 Blow-Dryer Brushes Our Editors Swear By

travel blow dryer brush

Unsolicited fun fact: if I had to use just one hair tool for the rest of my life, it would be my Shark blow-dry brush — yup, the one you've seen all over TikTok. The buzzy multistyling tool has single-handedly transformed my hair routine, making styling my thick and wavy hair significantly easier. It cuts down on styling time, smooths my frizz, and gives my hair so much volume that it looks like I just got a professional blowout.

Admittedly, though, the Shark dryer wasn't the tool that put me onto the trend in the first place; it was the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer , a more affordable (yet equally sensationalized) hot-air brush with thousands of five-star reviews across the board. Having used (and loved) both, there are certainly pros and cons to each that I'll dive into in a bit. The good news is that both can reap selfie-worthy results when used correctly.

What does "correctly" mean, exactly? Well, one of the biggest mistakes people make using hot-air brushes is using them on soaking-wet hair, celebrity hairstylist Glenn Ellis tells PS. Before grabbing your blow-dry brush, he says, you should detangle your wet hair with a brush and apply heat protectant to reduce damage. Then, "rough-dry your hair 70 percent of the way" with a traditional blow dryer. (Hot-air brushes are meant to be used on damp, not sopping-wet, hair.)

As for your technique, the pro recommends blow-drying your hair in sections "the same size as the diameter of the round brush." He says this will ensure your hair gets thoroughly dry and, thus, make the process as efficient as possible. Once it's sectioned, brush the tool from your roots straight down to the ends for a sleek and smooth look, and be sure not to rush the process as you glide it down your hair. You can also twist away from your face for bouncy waves or flip your ends à la the '70s. (Don't worry, there are approximately a zillion YouTube and TikTok videos to help guide you.)

Best Affordable Blow-Dryer Brush

Best Affordable Blow-Dryer Brush

Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus ($40, originally $70)

The Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus is one of (if not *the*) most famous — and most affordable — hot-air brushes on the market. It features four temperature settings (cool, low, medium, and high) and a detachable brush that can pack away easily, be it under your sink or in your carry-on. Plus, it's editor-approved. Check out our in-depth review of the Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus .

What we love:

  • The Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus is widely available both in real life and online and is available via Amazon Prime if you want it to land on your doorstep ASAP.
  • As implied by the name, this is the second iteration of Revlon's popular device. The newer model has a smaller barrel brush to get closer to your roots and, thus, achieve more volume.

Who it's best for:

  • It has a combination of tufted and boar bristles, which Ellis deems best for "thicker hair or textured hair because it will allow for more tension to help get the hair smoother and decrease frizz."
  • It's also great if you need your hairstyle to last. Our editor said: "The biggest difference I noticed between this brush and others I've used in the past is how well my hairstyle stayed put. Although I think I've pretty much mastered the '90s blowout, I've often found that the look can fall throughout the day if I don't use a ton of hairspray or texture spray. I didn't use either after the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer, and my flipped-in ends lasted even after a night of sleeping on them."

Who should avoid it:

  • If you're looking for a blow-dry brush that comes with different styling attachments, you may want to consider a different device (see: the Dyson Airwrap Styler, the Shark FlexStyle, and the T3 Airbrush Duo Hot Air Blow Dry Brush.)

The details:

  • Heat Settings: four (low, medium, high, cool) | Cord Length: six feet | Bristles: tufted boar bristles

Best Blow-Dryer Brush For Short Hair

T3 Airebrush Duo Hot Air Blow Dry Brush ($189)

The T3 Airebrush Duo Hot Air Blow Dry Brush is one of the chicest blow-dry brushes we've come across. It comes with two attachments (more on that in a sec) and features five heat settings and three speed settings. To learn more, read our comprehensive review of the T3 Airebrush Duo Hot Air Blow Dry Brush .

  • We love how this blow-dry brush comes with two attachment heads: one 2.5-inch round brush for voluminous, bouncy blowouts and a three-inch paddle brush for sleek, straight looks.
  • T3 notes that this blow-dry brush works on all hair types and lengths, but it's received the most favorable results from those with fine hair, as some with thick hair found that it did not get hot enough to style their strands efficiently.
  • The nylon and plastic bristles don't create a lot of tension, which is a great choice for those with finer hair who prefer to be as gentle as possible on their strands.
  • If you're looking for an air brush that's applauded for its ergonomic design, this one might not be your perfect match. Several shoppers have noted that the handle is large. One Amazon shopper warned, "if you have small hands, this might be a bit of a struggle to use."
  • Heat Settings: five heat settings (149°F to 185°F) and cool shot | Cord Length: nine feet | Bristles: plastic and nylon

Best Overall Blow-Dryer Brush

Shark FlexStyle ($240, originally $300)

If you're on BeautyTok, you've probably heard content creators raving about the Shark FlexStyle, a more affordable alternative to a major competitor's version (IYKYK). It features a built-in hairdryer, two brushes (an oval one for bouncy blowouts and a paddle brush for smooth hair), a concentrator for targeted drying, and auto-wrap curlers. Read more by checking out our complete review of the Shark FlexStyle .

  • One of the best features of the Shark FlexStyle is that the device transforms into a blow dryer (no attachment required — you just press a button, and it folds down), which is super convenient given that it's important your hair is *mostly* dry before using it. We also love how you can "build your own" on the brand's website, which means you can choose three styling attachments that best suit your unique styling needs.
  • The Shark FlexStyle is best for those looking for an all-in-one heat styler at a reasonable price point.
  • This may be obvious (sorry), but if your main priority is achieving that classic bouncy blowout look, a more traditional hot-air brush will likely do the trick. (See: the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer, the L'ange Hair Le Volume Black 60mm, and the Drybar Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush.)
  • Heat Settings: four (low, medium, high, cool) | Cord Length: eight feet | Bristles: boar and nylon bristles

Best Blow-Dryer Brush With Multiple Attachments

Dyson Airwrap ($600)

The Dyson Airwrap is the original multifunctional styler to make waves in the beauty space. "Owning the Dyson Airwrap has been a complete game changer when it comes to my hair routine," one of our editors writes. "It's replaced my blow dryer, my round brush, my straightener, two different curling-iron sizes, and my blow-dry brush. Whenever I'm packing for a trip, I don't need to bring tons of different hair tools with me — all I need is my Airwrap and my travel case." Read our complete review of the Dyson Airwrap Styler .

  • We love how many different looks you can create with the Dyson Airwrap. Just look at the accompanying photo to see the various ways our staff writer used her device, even when her hair was different lengths.
  • The Dyson Airwrap is best for those who style their hair frequently, especially if you use it to replace your super-hot hair straightener and curling iron. Why? Well, unlike other devices, this one's technology uses heat and air (not just heat) and constantly regulates so that it never goes over 302°F. Simply put, it's a less-damaging alternative for your strands.
  • If you want to start styling your hair to perfection straight away, the Dyson might not be your perfect match. There's definitely a learning curve, as told by our editor. "I won't lie: it definitely took some getting used to, and I had to watch tons of different tutorial videos before I finally figured out what I was doing," she wrote. "Now that I've gotten it down, I've been using my Dyson at least two times a week without fail."
  • Heat Settings: three (cool, medium, and high) | Cord Length: 8.75 feet | Bristles: ceramic

Best Lightweight Blow-Dryer Brush

L'ange Le Volume Petite 2-in-1 Volumizing Brush Dryer ($89)

The L'ange Le Volume Petite 2-in-1 Volumizing Brush Dryer is super sleek and lightweight, coming in at just 1.25 pounds, per the brand (which is the lightest on this list, by the way). It has three heat settings: low (which the brand deems best for styling fine hair), high (for thick strands), and cool (to set your style). One of the biggest draws of all is that this device is great for frizz. The blade is made with titanium plates that are said to prevent frizziness — as confirmed by our editor. Check out our comprehensive review of the L'ange Le Volume Petite 2-in-1 Volumizing Brush Dryer .

  • Not only is this air-dry brush lighter than most designs on the market, but it's also quieter, per numerous reviews.
  • It comes with a protective cover to shield the bristles and a cleaner comb to remove hair buildup from the brush.
  • It comes in two barrel sizes: 2.4-inch and three-inch (the shorter length is designed for shorter hairstyles).
  • This device is best for shorter hairstyles in search of a lightweight blow-dryer brush.
  • There's no one who should specifically avoid it, though it may be better for some than others. For example: if you don't deal with frizziness or need an extra-long electrical cord, you'll probably be just fine opting for a lesser-priced option.
  • Heat Settings: three (low, cool, and high)| Cord Length: nine feet | Bristles: nylon and tufted

Best Blow-Dryer Brush For All Hair Textures

Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush ($155)

It's only right that Drybar — the California-based blowout chain — created a Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush, and in its signature yellow color, no less! It features three heat settings and a combination of tufted and nylon bristles to create the necessary tension to smooth even the coarsest strands. When one of our thick-haired contributors put it to the test, she said her "life was forever changed." Learn more via her review of the Drybar Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush .

  • This blow-dry brush performs well on all hair types, including coarse curls. The contributor who reviewed this tool said her hair is "very thick, frizzy, and curly" and that the DryBar Double Shot makes her hair look "silky, smooth, and straight."
  • Those with thick hair will benefit most from this device. That's because — as mentioned above — it features a combination of nylon and tufted bristles needed to create smoothing tension when you drag the brush through your strands.
  • If you're sensitive to loud noises, you might want to avoid this one and consider one that's praised for its quietness, like the L'ange. Some users found that it made their ears ring (though you could try earplugs if it's too intense).
  • Heat Settings: three (cool, medium, high) | Cord Length: nine feet | Bristles: tufted and nylon

AirTouch Technique: What it is, How it’s Done, and Why Your Clients Will be Saying Bye-Bye to Traditional Balayage

Here, Danilo Bozic uses techniques learned from Vladimir Sarbashev to create his AirTouch...

The beautiful thing about the beauty world we’re living in right now is this access to what’s happening around the globe. Even though balayage highlights might be trending in LA and NYC, it’s also trending in Sydney, Australia, and Dubai. We are totally connected thanks to platforms like Instagram and Pinterest.

One thing that DOES differ among the trends is the execution and technique. Updo artists coming from Russia are amazing. Balayage lightening out of Brazil is unmatched. And now we’re seeing a new trend with color emerge with AirTouch highlights.

The AirTouch technique uses air, versus teasing/backcombing, to create a seamless blend of color. Attributed to  Vladimir Sarbashev , the colorist takes a section of hair with tension on the longest lengths, and uses a blow dryer to push the shorter hairs and internal layers down and out of the way. Color or lightener is then applied on the remaining hair.

The result? Absolutely blended coloring with natural-looking effects, paired with soft, dimension that will survive the grow-out.

When we spoke with Sarbashev, who is based in Moscow, Russia, he said he created the AirTouch technique because he saw several challenges with other lightening techniques—namely, the retouch.

In a traditional retouch where the hair was backcombed or teased prior to lightener being applied, the colorist then has to use a tail comb to re-weave that section to ensure the client doesn’t get too blonde over time or that color won’t overlap on previously lightened hair.

With AirTouch, as long as the colorist uses the same technique—tension on the perimeter lengths and using a blow dryer to push the shorter hairs or internal layering out of the way, only the new growth needs lightener—voila! Saving time for both the client and the colorist, and potential over-processing since you’re only hitting the virgin outgrowth.

VIDEO: Watch to see the AirTouch in action! Nope, the hair color isn't changing, the "baby hair" and internal layering is being pushed down for a perfect lightener retouch!

“AirTouch became a huge success because it is different than any other highlight or balayage technique out there,” says Artist Connective member and blonde specialist Erin Mills . “The biggest difference is the sectioning, mostly diagonal sections, and the use of the blow dryer. AirTouch is technically starting a section, using the  dryer outlining up the hair strand to blow away all hairs that are held tight in the section, and only highlighting in foil the remaining hair. It’s amazing to watch, and the results are so natural!”

Since debuting the technique in Eastern Europe, Sarbashev’s life has completely changed. He now has nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram and teaches his technique globally.

Now that you’re sold on the technique, you might be wondering why you hadn’t heard of it, or Sarbashev before. We were wondering the same thing. Endless Googling and we couldn’t find much information at all, let alone information published from media in the United States.

But what we COULD find was hundreds of thousands of work on Instagram hashtagged with #airtouch #airtouchoriginal #airtouchrussia, and other AirTouch alternatives. And the work is nearly ALL screenshot worthy!

When we stumbled upon the work of one artist in a neighboring city to the MODERN SALON offices using hashtag #airtouchoriginal, we felt like we struck gold! Who was this guy creating this incredible lightening effects, using the popular hashtag #airtouch AND didn’t speak Russian?

Danilo Bozic, who works out of Hindsdale, Illinois, actually learned the AirTouch technique from Sarbashev himself.

“I was going through Instagram looking for information and knowledge to get better, and I started following the Russian scene for inspiration,” Bozic tells us. “I started to see #airtouch trending and became very interested in it. I tried deciphering the technique by watching YouTube videos and by getting in touch with some stylists in Russia who were doing it but I just wasn’t getting the same seamless results I was seeing on Instagram.”

So when he saw that the Vladimir was coming to Las Vegas to teach the two-day class, Bozic moved everything around to be there.

View this post on Instagram #airtouchoriginal is a technique that has 5 different placements. For every haircut- long hair with or without layers, bob, medium length or bangs. This one is, well, neither.. 🙈 We can call it “The Lazy One” and I like to use it for fine hair and some color corrections. 🔥 •I part hair in four sections and work my way from the bottom to the top, placing foils horizontally. (I try not to move or disturb foils in any way because it can interfere with the working of bleach.) This is a fast placement and it’s easy to do those in between foils. Now, my advice here is not that easier is better but sometimes, less IS more and it just works here. Can’t wait to show you 5 of @sarbashevvladimir ‘s #airtouch placements though! Was this useful to my hairstylist friends? . . . A post shared by Danilo Who? (@danilo.bozic) on Mar 8, 2019 at 10:25am PST

“When I got to the class, I was surprised to find out I was the only one there who didn’t speak Russian, but I had help with translation from other participants and although I had to fill in some blanks, that incredible class gave me everything I needed to start making my own seamless AirTouch.”

Now, Bozic has clients constantly bring in #AirTouch inspiration photos from Instagram asking for the technique.

“Clients love AirTouch because of its perfect blend and, as they like to point out, it’s not nearly as uncomfortable as balayage can sometimes be because it requires zero teasing.”

Bozic says the technique is so innovative because the air does all the hard work of weaving out the "baby hairs," leaving the longer sections to be highlighted.

"Then, if we color the shorter pieces, the hair gets more depth and can create a better blend," he says.

“You can compare my life in the hair world to what’s happening with Tesla—it’s changed so much and so many doors have opened for me,” Sarbashev tells MODERN SALON in an exclusive interview.

English isn’t his native language so some things might be lost in translation, but the overall impact Sarbashev has had on lightening and balayage, within Eastern Europe, has been nothing short of transformative.

“This AirTouch technique is now available in nearly every salon within the country of Russia,” he says. “AND the neighboring countries. But not enough people know about it in America yet. When I teach classes in America, typically Russians living in the U.S. are the ones who come. So we are just at the beginning of this trend exploding, and this interview is the beginning of great opportunities in the states.”

The 15 Best Ionic Hair Dryers That Can Deliver a Speedy Blowout, According to Hair Stylists

Regardless of how hard I try, I can never quite seem to re-create the shiny, voluminous blowout I get at the salon on my own accord. Then there’s the issue of time. Unfortunately, I’m kind of known for procrastinating when it comes to getting ready for the day. Aside from my lack of skills and poor time management skills when it comes to getting ready, I’m also plagued by bleach-induced damage and breakage, which has led me to dodge heat styling altogether. That is, until my hair stylist suggested that I make the switch to a so-called ionic hair dryer. Despite getting to test new beauty products on the regular, I admittedly had no idea what an ionic blow dryer even was, let alone how they work.

SUTRA brand ambassador Gabriel Samra

What is an ionic hair dryer?

“Ionic hair dryers use negative ions to break down the water molecules in the hair, drying it from the inside out,” Sullivan explains. When shopping for an ionic blow dryer, you should pay close attention to ceramic materials, multiple heat and speed settings, and an ionic generator, according to Samra. “Ionic technology uses negative ions to dry hair faster and reduce frizz by breaking down water molecules quickly. When combined with infrared heat, which dries hair from the inside out, it helps maintain moisture and minimize heat damage, leaving your hair smoother and shinier,” he adds.

What is the difference between an ionic hair dryer and a regular hair dryer?

While ionic hair dryers utilize negative ions, regular hair dryers rely on heated coils, per Sullivan. “The main difference between an ionic hair dryer and a regular one is in how they dry your hair. An ionic hair dryer releases negative ions that help break down water in your hair, making it dry faster with less heat and less frizz. Regular hair dryers just use hot air, which can cause more frizz and possible heat damage,” Samra explains.

Who should use an ionic hair dryer?

“Ionic dryers are great for someone with thick, coarse hair, as they speed up drying time and help to remove frizz. For someone with fine or fragile hair, it is easy to overdry the hair, so be careful when using an ionic hair dryer,” according to Sullivan.

Moscow Prohibited Alcohol Sale in Airports

ALCOHOL

Passengers suffering from aerophobia, from now on will have difficulties. The sale of strong alcoholic drinks will be banned in the airports of Moscow. Moscow transport prosecutor’s office conducts inspections of bars and restaurants in the Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports.

The fact is that according to the law on state regulation of production and turnover of alcohol and alcoholic beverages, according to Article 16 “sale of alcoholic beverages with a volume content of ethanol over 12% in non-specialized organizations in areas of high concentrations of people and with sources of increased danger” is prohibited. These places are, no doubt, the airports.

To eliminate  violations and cease trade of strong alcoholic drinks in the bars of airports is given 60 days. After two months they do not stop to pour brandy with a cup of coffee to passengers and those who escort them, public prosecutor’s office threatens to close the restaurants for violating the law for three months. It is still unknown whether the extent of the law refers to bars and restaurants, located in a public area of the airport, or those that operate in the relegation zone, where passengers can expect an invitation to land for hours. It is also unclear whether duty free shops will cease selling alcohol. Of course, the fight against drunkenness and debauchery on board the aircraft is required, because not a month passes without incident with the hoodlums, after moving alcohol. However, the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages in bars and restaurants will not help airports to reduce the number of drunken passengers on board. On the contrary, those who are afraid to fly now also drink 50 grams of a martini or cognac before the flight will be forced to buy in duty-free or to the airport a whole bottle. And drink it up – in fact, hand does not rise to throw out half-liter of good alcohol. As a result the struggle for health and safety of tourists will result in an increase in the number of drunks on board the aircraft.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
