When it comes to travel mugs, chances are you have different cups for different purposes—one for cold drinks, one for your morning coffee , and one for those smoothies you try to make consistently. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just have one cup for all of your beverages? That’s where the Bubba Envy Insulated Stainless Steel Tumbler comes in. 

This 24-ounce tumbler was designed to accommodate all types of drinks, hot and cold, and it comes at a very affordable price. Sound like a good fit for you? Keep reading for our review!

Design: One (potential) flaw

The Bubba Envy Insulated Stainless Steel Tumbler has a pry-off lid that seals tightly, and it has a hole in the top for the included straw. The straw itself is big enough to handle chunky fruit smoothies , and it has wings at the bottom for stirring thicker beverages. 

The actual cup itself can hold 24 ounces of liquid and is made from a vacuum-insulated double wall. In simple terms, that means there are two layers to the cup, and the air was sucked out of the space between them. Because of this and the tight seal of the lid, the tumbler is able to regulate the temperature of the liquid inside quite effectively.

However, some people might not like that there’s no way to completely seal the lid. The hole in the lid doesn’t have a cover or flap, so it would be ill-advised to, say, put the travel cup in your bag during your commute. This also makes it more prone to spills than other sealable coffee mugs.

Performance: Stays hot for 5 hours and cold for 20

We used the Bubba Envy Stainless Steel Tumbler in place of our reusable water bottle for a couple weeks, and we were happy with how long it kept our water cold—literally all day. To see just how long the tumbler could keep water cold, we filled it with ice water and let it sit. After 20 hours, the water was still cool! The ice was gone, of course, but the temperature of the water was still refreshing.

We also used the Bubba Tumbler for smoothies , and this is one of the areas where it really shined. Why? First, when we got to the bottom of our smoothie, it wasn’t a melted mess thanks to the superior insulation, and second, the wings on the straw made stirring the smoothie much easier than it would’ve been with a normal straw.

We also wanted to see how well the Bubba Envy Stainless Steel Tumbler retains heat, so we put it through a tough test. On a cold January day, we filled the travel mug with boiling water and put it outside in the car.

After two hours, the water was still hot at 153 degrees. After four hours, the water was 132 degrees. At the seven hour mark, the water’s temperature had come down to 107 degrees. We were definitely impressed that it stayed warm for so long on a below-freezing day.

This travel mug is made from stainless steel, which makes it stain- and odor-resistant. The lid is made of BPA-free plastic , and the straw is plastic, as well. There’s also padding on the bottom of the mug that’s made of silicone.

Features: Perfectly-placed indents for holding

There are two things that could have made this tumbler hard to hold: First, it’s large, and second, there’s no handle. However, to solve both those issues, there are indents circling the cup for your fingers.

It seems a little silly, but this small feature actually makes a huge difference! We’re happy to say that, because of these indents, holding the cup is comfortable. Plus, it fit perfectly into the cupholder of our car.

Cleaning: No surprises here

Overall, cleaning the Bubba Envy Stainless Steel Tumbler is a no-fuss process. Feel free to toss the lid and the straw in the top rack of your dishwasher, but the cup needs to be hand washed, which is typical for double-walled tumblers. The straw doesn’t come with a brush, but you can pick one up from just about any store for a few dollars.

Price: Super cheap 

Depending on the color you choose, the Bubba Envy Tumbler’s price will vary somewhere between $8 and $20. You can usually find the stainless steel color for under $10, and considering how well it maintains the temperature of both hot and cold beverages, it really is a steal!

While they certainly come in handy, when it comes to cleaning travel mugs, a quick rinse doesn’t always do the trick (and it doesn’t provide your cup with a deep clean). Plus, many reusable mugs and water bottles aren’t dishwasher safe. 

So, how can you truly get a deep clean without throwing your cup into the dishwasher? We’ve put together a step-by-step guide to help you ensure your go-to kitchen accessory stays sparkly clean. Step 1: Add your cleaning ingredients to your mug

Pour 1⁄2 cup of distilled white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of baking soda directly into your mug. We recommend pouring the contents into the mug while it’s held over the sink in case there’s any spillage. 

Let the mixture sit for a few minutes. It should bubble together, creating a light foam consistency.

 Step 2: Seal and shake

Replace the lid on your travel cup. If it has a sliding opening, make sure it is completely closed and sealed. If it has a straw opening, make sure you cover the opening tightly. Shake the mixture inside your travel mug, almost as if you’re mixing a margarita in a cocktail shaker.  

 Step 3: Rinse it out 

Dispose of the vinegar and baking soda mixture into your sink and rinse the cup with warm water. 

 Step 4: Get ready to soak

Fill a bowl with hot water and a few drops of dish soap. Soak your mug in this mixture for approximately 10 minutes. Add all components of your travel mug into the bowl. If you have a lid with a rubber seal or detachable parts, remove those and soak them together.  

Step 5: Give it a final rinse 

Rinse off any remaining residue off the mug and lid.

The best method is to allow your mug to air dry overnight, but if you’re in a rush, drying it with a clean dish towel or paper towel will work just fine.

I used to think Yeti were the only brand who were dishwasher safe, but with a little research I was able to find 10 brands of dishwasher safe insulated tumblers .

The best dishwasher safe insulated tumbler is the Yeti Rambler tumblers . They are built tough, keep drinks hot for 6-12+ hours and cold for 24+ hours and can easily handle the dishwasher. For a more affordable option the Bubba Envy straw lid tumbler offers good value for money and is dishwasher safe.

My full list below ranks them in order from best to worst but I’ve also tried to outline some of the pros and cons of each and who they may be suited for.

They are one of the best tumblers for ice retention .

They were one of the first brands to test their tumblers well enough and declare them dishwasher safe , which other big brands like Hydro Flask, RTIC and Klean Kanteen still say to handwash only.

Yeti Tumbler cups are double walled and vacuum insulated so they are great at keeping out heat or holding in heat.

8. CHEAPEST OPTION: Rubbermaid Thermal Tumbler

You may have heard of rubbermaid for their plastic coolers, food containers or kitchenware but they also make one of the most affordable insulated tumblers on the market.

At the time of writing this was the cheapest tumbler in this list and actually one of the cheapest vacuum insulated tumblers I have ever seen (except maybe the Ozark Trail from Walmart but that’s not dishwasher safe).

This comes in a 10 oz or 16 oz size and the body only comes in stainless steel color but you can choose from 4 different colored lids.

The lid is leak proof, the cup is thin enough to fit in most cup holders and it’s top rack dishwasher safe.

If you want the cheapest dishwasher safe vacuum insulated tumbler then the Rubbermaid is for you.

9. Stanley Ceramivac

For those who want the insulating ability of a stainless steel tumbler but who don’t want the metal imparting flavors into their drink the Stanley Ceramivac has a ceramic lining.

The ceramic covers the metal of the inside of the cup and protrudes upwards so you get to put your lips in ceramic and not metal.

While I like the design I do have some concerns with quality and it doesn’t have the best customer ratings. There are other better ceramic lined insulated tumblers that I would recommend more highly, but none of them are dishwasher proof.

These are backed by a lifetime warranty and if you like the ceramic coating they may be worth a try. I recommend reading some of the reviews on Amazon before making your purchasing decision though.

10. Glowstone Mug

The Glowstone mug isn’t technically an insulated tumbler or mug, but rather it keeps your drinks warm through a battery and a heating element.

It uses wireless charging to charge the battery and it’ll keep your tea or coffee at a 140-149ºF (60-65ºC) temperature for up to an hour.

It’s made of fine bone china, looks just like a regular mug and is completely dishwasher safe (which isn’t true for other battery powered heated coffee mugs )

It’s new to the market and it’s quite expensive and currently I could only find it for sale from their UK website. But maybe in future it’ll be cheaper and more widely available.

Which Dishwasher Safe Insulated Tumbler Will You Get?

As you can see there are quite a few different options if you’re looking for an insulated tumbler that you can safely put in the dishwasher.

All of these are good tumblers and all of them have their pros and their cons. None of them are perfect and no single one is the absolute “best”.

Ultimately it comes down to you and which cup you like best. Which one fits your budget and has the features you want.

Will you get the biggest brand with the Yeti Rambler tumbler or will you go for the cheapest option and snap up a Rubbermaid Thermal Tumbler .

Or maybe you’re a coffee snob (like myself) and want your coffee at the perfect temperature and so the Burnout Mug is going to be the best option for you.
