English Premier League: Travel Guide for a Soccer Game in England

Things to Know When Going to a Game in the World's Best Soccer League

epl travel reviews

Interest in soccer has increased in the United States due to recent World Cup success and more games being shown on a variety of cable networks. NBC's deal with the English Premier League (known also as the Barclays Premier League or EPL) and Fox's deal with the Champions League have specifically brought Americans in touch with the most talented players of the world's most global sport. As fans now tune in to see their favorite teams and players on TV, they're also becoming more interested in seeing games live. Going to a soccer game overseas is the equivalent of going to a college football game in America. Fans show more passion during games than you can possibly imagine with each team having a series of chants that can be throughout the game. Given the ease of getting to England and our familiarity with the language, more Americans are finding themselves attached to the EPL. Here's what you need to know when planning to see your favorite English Premier League team in person.

Getting to England

First, you'll need to get to England, which is easy in the larger scheme of things, but obviously not cheap. Many airlines fly to London from the major cities in the United States.‎ The cheapest times of year to fly to London is between November and March, so that jives well with the EPL season. The best time to look for pricing to fly at those times is the end of August or the beginning of November. Traveling on Tuesdays and Wednesdays is historically the cheapest days to travel. The easiest way to look for flight is with travel aggregator Kayak unless you specifically know what airline you want to travel on.

Getting Around England

Once you're in England, you'll need to get to wherever you're watching your EPL game. ‎Six teams (as of 2019-20) are in London and taking the Underground (the English version of America's subway, not to be confused with an English subway, which is their version of an underpass) is extremely easy. Every EPL team in London is located near an underground station. The longest distance you’ll need to travel from Central London to see an EPL team is the hour it takes to visit Crystal Palace.

Getting around the country to other cities is just as easy. England's train system works very well and is quicker than driving. Every EPL city is within three and a half hours of London with Newcastle being the furthest away. Tickets for the train aren’t cheap (as is the same with trains in America) with prices starting at approximately 60 pounds each way and schedules are available at the National Rail website . You can obviously also rent a car and drive around the English countryside as you check out a game in the process.

Getting tickets for Barclays Premier League games is the hardest part of your adventure. Most good teams have large season ticket holder bases, which prevents many tickets from hitting the open market. The reason teams have large bases is because games aren't televised in England during the main 3 p.m. local time slot on Saturdays. (This is done to encourage fans to see lower level league games, providing revenue to keep them in business. The perception is that fans would rather watch their favorite EPL team on TV instead of seeing their local lower division team play.)

The best way to ensure getting tickets is by signing up for a team's membership. The costs are reasonable with the big Clubs (£30 – Everton, £43 – Tottenham, £28 - Chelsea & Manchester City, £27 - Liverpool, £35 - Manchester United, £34 – Arsenal) and there are two key perks for being members. The first is that members get a chance to buy available tickets after season ticket holders, but before the general public. You may never use the other features of the membership, but your goal here is to acquire tickets or else you wouldn't be reading this piece. Each membership gets access to only one ticket per membership during the initial membership sale, so you'll need multiple memberships for multiple tickets.

Tickets (cont.)

The second benefit is that some clubs have secondary markets that allow members have access to. Currently Viagogo services Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle, and Queens Park Rangers. Arsenal and Liverpool run their own ticket exchange in-house. Tottenham has a deal with Stubhub , but a few other teams have tickets that end up there as well. Generally, the supply on the secondary market isn’t as much as you’d see for American sports.

Some slightly less talented teams allow ticket purchasing access to those who purchase tickets for a previous game in the season before those who haven't. It's a somewhat silly policy if there are people who want to go when Manchester United is in town get priority to buy tickets because they bought tickets for a Stoke City game earlier in the year. Then the home team loses out on concessions and merchandise sales when the fan most likely doesn't show for the Stoke City game. (On the contrary, the argument could be made that the Stoke City tickets would never have been sold anyway and this just adds extra revenue to the home team.)

Where to Stay

Hotel availability will vary based on what game you're attending, but generally, the home team's fans live in the city‎ where the game is taking place and the away team's fans go back to their city after the game since taking the train from city to city is so easy. You might want to do the same if you’re seeing a game at a smaller team outside of London and can get back with ease. Hotels in London will generally be more expensive, but you’ll be able to see and do more things in England. Those seeing games in London shouldn’t worry too much about staying near the stadium of the game they’re seeing. As mentioned above, getting to the stadiums are easy, so you might as well stay in a more enjoyable neighborhood. Wherever you stay, you use Kayak again to help with your hotels.

Pregame Festivities

As you'd expect, fans love to have a few pints before the game (and possibly a few after). ‎Bars around the stadiums are always packed before the game, so get there a couple hours before to bask in some local "football" conversation. Fans will start filling the grounds at least an hour and a half before kickoff to put up their flags on the facade of the stands (an English football tradition), sing the local Club's songs, and watch warmups. To tune up your voice, check out some of the lyrics before you go so that you can sing along in style.

Why An English Premier League Game Is A Must For Any UK Visit…

Football’s coming…

With the Premier League back on our screens, it’s hard to deny the instant hype and buzz it brings to so many people, all around the world. Whether you love it or loathe it, the passion that comes from true football fans is as undeniable as it is unbeatable. You see, whether you planned to or not, no trip to the UK is complete, and no sports travel bucket list is truly complete without catching an EPL (that’s English Premier League) game in the UK. You see, the Premier League explains more than football – it explains a nation.

Sadly, when many people think of the UK, they only really know of London, but there’s just so much more to see . Football teams put places on the map, and Premier League games are a great excuse to hop on a train, plane or bus to explore a new part of the UK and expand your appreciation for the country, or perhaps just the wide variety of British accents. Manchester is fast becoming one of the trendiest destinations in Europe, and if you haven’t already heard, they have a couple football teams up there which are worth a visit in themselves. Next time you’re in London or the UK, why not plan a fun side trip to watch Liverpool up at Anfield, after doing the Beatles tour or watch Brighton & Hove Albion, followed by a day at the seaside. Almost each and every team is easy to visit by train, and can be done as a day trip, depending on game time.

The Culture

The songs, the chants, the emotion – it’s not for the light hearted, but it’s an atmosphere you won’t soon forget, and that’s not just because your ears will be ringing for hours. You really don’t understand loyalty until you’ve see the fans of a down and out team sound as if they’ve won the league. One of the greatest things about the Premier League is that no matter which team you see (even one you haven’t heard of) the crowd will be buzzing in ways no U.S. sports fan could ever comprehend (sorry, it’s true) and the fans will be singing – every single one of them. And it doesn’t stop when the whistle blows! Especially if you happen to be in the home town of the winning team, the celebrations may continue in pubs all through the night, which is a rite of passage in itself.

Reasonably Priced

Unlike many famous sporting events around the world, most Premier League games are extremely reasonable. You’re not looking at $100’s just to get in the door. Each team offers VIP hospitality packages with food, beverage and swanky seats, but also plenty of really affordable tickets for away fans or local supporters. Each team controls their ticket sales directly, so do your best not to get ripped off with second hand tickets from major scalpers, by registering for your chosen teams ticket list. Many teams charge roughly £35 per ticket for a standard adult admission, with discounts for children often £10 less and if purchased in advance, you can almost always snag a ticket.

Using sport as a reason to travel the world and explore new destinations is arguably one of the coolest things to do. There’s nothing like bonding with friends new or old over the excitement of a game which cannot be imitated or discovering places you never thought you’d see, just because your favorite team happens to be playing there. Though you’d better make sure you wear correct team colors, catching an English Premier League game is a wonderful way to meet like minded people, while seeing for yourself that the world is smaller than you think. In fact, it’s a must.

I wouldn’t stop at the Premier League… Going to a game in the lower leagues can be a great experience too as you are in with ‘real’ fans, and not so many tourists. Games in the second tier (Championship) or even lower down are a pure football fan experience. OK so you won’t know any of the players, but this is supporting a team as it was meant to be: players fighting for their team, the club, the fans and their own livelihood – no millionaire divers here… Pints and banter before the game in the local pub and pies at half time… In London you have a few teams in lower leagues: Brentford, Millwall, QPR, Charlton and further afield you have big teams all over the country, with big stadiums, big fan bases and big history (some ex EPL or European Champions!) like Aston Villa (Birmingham), Middlesborough, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, West Brom, Wigan, Derby County, Blackburn etc etc. Also these games will be more affordable and tickets will be easier to come by – usually you can get a ticket on the door on match day. And don’t forget Scotland either!

The Complete Guide to Buying Premier League Tickets in England

By: Author Tracy Collins

Posted on Last updated: September 28, 2023

Everything you need to know about buying Premier League tickets in England – including tips and alternative tours.

If you’re into football – or soccer as you may well call it in your home country – then you might want to catch a Premier League game while you’re staying in England. Seeing some of the world’s top players in action as ‘the beautiful game’ plays out is a real thrill for a soccer fan. (That term was coined by the Brazilian player Pele, by the way, not an Englishman).

Men’s Premier League football is incredibly popular in England – it’s no exaggeration to say that many fans will do just about anything to see their team play. And would give anything to see them win too.

The game as we know it today is said to have originated in English private schools and involves teams of 11 men or women – though there is also an informal variation known as ‘five-a-side’. Previously seen as a ‘man’s game’, the English ladies’ team are now climbing up the rankings after their 2022 Euros tournament win.

At the time of writing, UEFA rankings show a number of English teams in the top ten, including Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. Arsenal is another popular and successful club, and like Chelsea is London-based. On a national and global scale, these are the five most popular clubs. ( Ted Lasso fans may be disappointed to hear that Richmond FC actually does not exist!)

So it’s easy to grab tickets for a game once you’re in the UK, right? Er, no. Completely wrong. If you want to see any of these clubs in action – or in fact any of the English Premier League clubs in action – then you’ll need to plan ahead. And cross your fingers.

The fact is that it’s incredibly difficult to get tickets. Even though Premier League ticket prices are so high. But don’t despair! We’re here to share all the insider info on the best places to buy Premier League tickets, to maximise your chances of getting inside the grounds.

Read on so you can secure your tickets to that match you’ve been desperate to see all your life. Or at least take advantage of an attractive alternative…

Let’s start at the very beginning. If you want to bag some EPL tickets – aka English Premier League tickets – then you’re going to have to be smart. So where better to grab some advice than from sources including the EPL themselves?

  • Plan well ahead

We really cannot stress this one enough! There’s no way – barring a miracle, really – that you’ll get Premier League tickets within a fortnight or even a month of the game. Even six months or more is often not enough time!

  • Only buy from club sites, ticket offices or authorised partners

Never, ever buy football tickets from an unofficial reseller. Why? Well, the main reasons are that these unauthorised ticket touts are out to rip you off, pure and simple. But money and fakes aside, there’s another good reason not to do that.

Resellers are notorious for placing unwitting ticket buyers in an undesirable position. This may be on the opposite home or away team’s side, or close to people who are known for causing trouble. There’s potentially more at stake here than simply losing a few pounds sterling, so stay away from sources that are not officially authorised.

  • It’s who you know

Many English Premier League tickets are all about who you know. If you do have contacts in the UK, then for goodness sake do ask around before you travel. A friend of a friend or a professional colleague might just know someone who was willing to pay the full Man City, Liverpool or Arsenal season ticket price to secure their seats.

Club members and those who’ve accrued loyalty points are far more likely to be able to help you secure tickets for that all-important match.

  • Look for a grade C match

Most English football clubs will place games in priority order, categorising them as grade A, B or C. A grade C match is far more likely to have available tickets than a grade A one, with grade B falling somewhere between the two.

If the club you want to see are playing against another popular team, then that’s only going to make securing tickets even more of a challenge!

Though the ladies’ teams are becoming increasingly popular, considering both men’s and women’s matches will also clearly give you more of a chance.

  • Get to know your club

As the EPL points out, each club has its own way of working. You should be able to find out about their ticket policies either via the website or by getting in touch with the club. Forewarned is forearmed!

Keep an eye on their social media pages too – you never know what info might pop up there.

  • Buy a hospitality package

Officially authorised hospitality packages can provide you with another way in. These can include other services such as parking, food and drink, programmes and souvenirs.

  • Go for second-best

If you can’t quite get to see your club in action, then why not book the next best thing? Which is to take a tour of the grounds. This often includes an insider peek at all facilities, including spots like the home and away changing rooms.

These can be fabulous experiences for any football fan in their own right – and can certainly help to make up for the disappointment caused by failing to secure tickets.

  • Listen to an expert

The Groundhopper Guide is THE go-to expert when it comes to the Premier League. So grab a copy of founder Paul Gerard’s Guide to Soccer in England for the full insider lowdown.

After reading this, you’ll be familiar with everything there is to know about English football, including where you can see them play or even meet them, as well as where to eat and drink before and after the match or your stadium visit.

Buying Premier League Tickets in England – FAQs

A man standing at Anfield Football ground.

Stick with the advice of the EPL and only ever buy tickets from a club’s ticket office or website, or via their authorised partners. All clubs will be able to provide a list of these.

Never buy tickets from unauthorised sources – or ticket touts as they’re locally known. These could be fake or may never materialise at all, and could cost astronomical amounts. They may also place you on the rivals’ side of the stadium, which is not the best place to be.

It is very difficult, with many top level English clubs, to get hold of tickets if you’re not a member. But it doesn’t hurt to ask around, and enquire with the club themselves.

This membership requirement does of course make the clubs more money, and also helps them to keep track of the fan base – and on top of demand.

You can expect Premier League tickets to cost around £100 sterling each – or more. This is around USD $120. Membership is often required to secure seats, and this also comes at a considerable cost per season.

A hospitality package with other elements such as food and drinks, parking or souvenirs may cost more than this. For a bucket-list experience, though, many fans consider this money well spent.

The demand for Premier League tickets outstrips supply, it’s as simple as that. Even the latest and biggest new stadiums cannot provide enough seats for every fan who wants to see their team play live.

The closer to the match it gets, the more difficult this becomes. And it’s even more challenging when two big name teams are on the bill – such as Man City vs Man United, for instance.

Manchester United FC Stripe Scarf

The reality is that you might get lucky and secure seats to a really exciting match – but you may well not be so fortunate. Planning early and considering the alternatives well in advance is the best tactic, then at least you may have some chance of seeing the stadium and museum if not the players in action.

Buying a hospitality package (from an authorised source) or a stadium tour may well be your best bet if you want to at least see inside the world of English Premier League football and learn about their history.

You might pick up some really cool souvenirs to take home too!

A guide to buying Premier League tickets from the USA

Entrance to the Kop end at Anfield, home ground of Liverpool FC

When I first began planning a soccer trip to the United Kingdom in the summer of 2019, I had no idea how to buy Premier League tickets, especially from the U.S.

I’m used to the typical ticket-buying channels seen across North American sports. The teams sell tickets to their home games, yes, but a buyer’s first instinct often is to check Ticketmaster or some other independent outlet. And then there’s the secondary market — StubHub, SeatGeek and the like — where bargains can often be found and last-minute tickets are nearly always available.

It’s understandable that the market for soccer tickets in England is not like that, but before attempting to secure tickets myself, I didn’t understand how different it would be.

The major clubs have strict control over the sale of their match tickets — and understandably so, because demand can often be through the roof. After all, we’re talking about some of the world’s most popular sports teams here.

I have navigated the murky waters of trying to buy Premier League tickets on two separate occasions. I was all set to attend two matches — a Tottenham Hotspur fixture in the Premier League, as well as Manchester City’s showdown with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

That trip was scheduled for March 2020, though, and I don’t think I have to tell you why I had to abruptly cancel it.

The second time around, in August 2022, I returned to England at the start of the new Premier League season and managed to score tickets to THREE matches! And then, I added one more new stadium as part of another visit in the spring of 2024.

Now, I feel I have a good grasp on how to get into some of the UK’s most popular football grounds, which I’ll outline below. And with the Premier League having released their fixtures for the 2024-25 campaign, maybe you are also looking to plan a trip to see live matches from abroad — be it from the USA or elsewhere.

Make no bones about it: Buying Premier League tickets can be a time-consuming, sometimes frustrating and possibly expensive exercise.

But if you truly want to see Premier League clubs in action, persistence is the name of the game. Here are some tips for getting into your preferred matches.

Step 1: Choosing your dates

If you’re like me, you choose the dates in which you want to travel based on your schedule with work, school or other obligations, and then once that timeframe is set, then you go about seeing what events might be happening at your destination during that time.

First off, you have to make sure your dates fall within the normal soccer season in England. The Premier League season typically runs from the second weekend in August to the middle of May, while Champions League matches throughout Europe coincide with this timeframe and typically culminate in the final in late May or early June.

In English football, there are also domestic competitions, namely the FA Cup and Carabao Cup (aka League Cup), that coincide with the Premier League season.

Summertime is typically reserved for international competitions (the World Cup or European Championships, for example). If your visit is in late July or early August, close to the start of the new Premier League season, you may also have opportunities to watch preseason friendlies.

Step 2: Finding your fixture opportunities

It stands to reason that if you’re in the U.S., finding a game for which to buy tickets is as easy as looking at a schedule for the Premier League, or the Champions League bracket, but it’s not that simple.

When the Premier League releases its fixtures for the upcoming season (usually in mid-June), matches are divided into “matchweeks” and scheduled for the Saturday of that week at 3 p.m. British time.

However, only some matches will wind up being played at that time; others — mainly ones involving popular clubs that visitors would often like to see — will get moved up to Friday, or back to Sunday or Monday, and kickoff times usually change as well. This is done to fill prime TV broadcast windows (not unlike the NFL “flexing” a game into the coveted Sunday night time slot), and also to allow clubs to participate in matches for other competitions.

It makes things tricky, though, for the traveler from the USA or elsewhere who wants to buy tickets for matches a few months ahead. In the Premier League, fixture times are set in stages, and for a couple months at a time. In the case of my first trip, I had to wait until late January to find out exactly when my target matches in mid-March would take place.

The Premier League usually sets a schedule for when fixture times will be announced, so it’s worth following them on Twitter or another social media platform to stay abreast of announcements. Similarly, it’s worth keeping an eye on dates for Champions League draws, but at least match dates for every stage known before each year’s tournament begins.

Step 3: Should you buy a membership?

So how, exactly, do you buy tickets for the Premier League from the U.S.? Well, it all begins with the individual clubs. Once you’ve identified a match that you want to attend, you should then check out the ticket-buying procedures put in place by the home club in question, outlined on each team’s website.

You’ll quickly discover, though, that for some Premier League clubs — at least, the ones you routinely see near the top of the table — buying a club membership is required to even get into the team’s ticket portal.

For a yearly fee, a membership gets you perks including gifts, team store discounts and exclusive access to club-produced content, but of course the main benefit is it gives you the opportunity to buy tickets when they go on sale.

Each club controls its supply for matches regardless of what competition they’re for, be it a “regular” league match or for the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, and so on.

My original plans in 2020 included one Premier League match (Tottenham Hotspur vs. West Ham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) and one Champions League game (Manchester City vs. Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium), so I bought memberships for both Spurs and Man City.

This time around, the schedule gave me opportunities to see Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal. So yes, I bought memberships for all three clubs — for myself and my wife, as every individual who wishes to attend a match needs his or her own membership.

Note that some teams structure their member ticket-buying rules differently. Some, like Manchester City, allow members to purchase multiple tickets under a single membership. But many, such as Tottenham, require each ticketholder to hold an individual membership. When I bought tickets for my original trip from the USA, I needed one Man City membership for the scheduled Champions League match but two for Tottenham so that I could buy a pair of tickets for the league fixture.

So yeah, it can get a little convoluted. But if you’re a fan of a specific club and want to follow them around, then it gets much simpler. Buy the one membership and then you’ll have access to tickets for that team’s road matches, as well — as you may know, European soccer stadiums all have designated visiting supporter sections.

Also, know that for the most popular clubs in England — in my experience, this includes Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea — the demand for tickets makes obtaining them on a single-match basis a challenge, and seniority (as in, how long you’ve held a membership and how many matches you’ve attended) is a primary factor in how clubs allow access to tickets.

If you really want to see a home match for one of these clubs without the hassle of competing with longtime fans, feel free to skip ahead to Step 5.

Ticket portal on the Manchester United website

Step 4: Online sales

Once you have your memberships, then there’s nothing left but to buy the tickets. There’s a unique challenge to this, though, as online ticket sales in Britain are conducted similarly to in the USA, but the time difference can make for some early wake-up calls.

To buy tickets for both matches in the spring of 2020, I woke up at 2 a.m. Pacific time (I live in Southern California) in order to secure seats. I was successful on both counts, so it was worth it.

That experience made me confident that I would score tickets fairly easily for my second go-round. But I failed to take into account the increased demand that comes with start-of-season excitement. For each of the three matches I targeted, I woke up in the middle of the night to buy tickets in the initial single-match release … and struck out each time.

At that point, it pays to know what alternatives you have. Each club has a ticket-resale scheme in place, which allows season-ticket holders to sell tickets they won’t use back to the club. It works similarly to Ticketmaster’s NFL Ticket Exchange, but with one key difference: Resale prices are not set according to demand, making them affordable — that is, if you can get your hands on them.

In the case of the Spurs match I wanted to attend, it took three days of constantly checking the ticket portal, waiting for A) a pair of tickets to be listed, and B) moving quickly enough to beat everyone else lurking on the site for tickets. But I finally secured my two tickets, and at £60 per ticket (plus small fees), it wasn’t too bad.

Once you have your tickets in hand, pay attention to each club’s policy on how they distribute tickets. In the case of Spurs, you’re sent a unique mobile pass that signifies you’re a member AND you have a ticket for a particular match. Manchester City mailed their tickets to me, and so even though I didn’t get to use it, I got a nice little souvenir.

Step 5: Should you buy a hospitality package?

OK, you bought the membership and struck out during the various ticket on-sales, or you’ve decided last-minute to try and see a high-demand match, or you really, REALLY want to see a match at Anfield or Stamford Bridge and it’s proving nearly impossible. What to do?

There is one fool-proof alternative: the hospitality package.

They don’t come cheap (think somewhere between £300 and £500 per person depending on the club and the match), but anyone can buy them regardless of membership status, and they come with perks such as a catered meal, a stadium tour or merchandise discounts.

Every club offers them, and if you really are that set on seeing the match you want and money is no object, well, buying a hospitality package will certainly help you achieve that goal.

Cost notwithstanding, buying hospitality tickets through the club at least gives you the peace of mind that you’re getting into the ground no matter what — and that you’ll be treated pretty well in the process.

View of the pitch at London Stadium during a West Ham match

Step 6: Should you buy tickets from the secondary market?

Of course, you might have a budget that precludes you from splurging on a hospitality package. If that’s the case, your main alternative is the secondary market .

Unlike in the USA, where ticket resellers are numerous and generally reliable even for the biggest events, scalping is a little more frowned upon in the UK. The English clubs tend to offer some stern warnings about not accepting tickets bought second-hand, going so far as to claim popular portals like StubHub are blacklisted.

That’s a big reason why memberships exist in the first place: They’re a way of assuring the clubs that the people who buy the tickets are the ones using them, and that people aren’t buying season tickets just to profit off them.

I can confess, though, that I have attended a match using tickets bought second-hand. I used a popular resale portal called LiveFootballTickets.com to buy tickets for an Arsenal match at Emirates Stadium — doing so only after I failed multiple times to get tickets for the match I wanted through the normal channels.

The purchase — which was perhaps a 75 percent markup from face value — put us in direct contact with the seller, who had to give us his mobile membership badge via text for entry to the stadium a few days before the match. In essence, I pretended I was this other person, a paid Arsenal member, for a day.

Entering the stadium went smoothly and we thoroughly enjoyed the match. However, during our wait in the queue I witnessed someone whose mobile pass was rejected multiple times at the scanner, forcing him to walk away in a huff to presumably get things sorted out elsewhere. I don’t know why that happened, but it was a reminder of how strict the ticket process is in England.

So in summary, while secondary options do exist and seem both reputable and reliable, they’re not foolproof. In the end, you’ll have to understand the risk involved. My stance is that I would definitely consider buying tickets second-hand, but only as a last resort.

Step 7: Enjoy the match!

Congratulations! You made it! Taking in an international sporting event is a favorite pastime for me, and I can attest first-hand that the thrill of attending a Premier League match in England is well worth the effort.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I am in the completely same situation you found yourself when you wrote this (every time you said I, you could replace it with my name.).

This is a huge help and I plan to use it try to see my beloved Spurs!

Edward de la Fuente

Thanks Jim! Hope you’re able to get over to London soon! Spurs have a really beautiful stadium.

Pete

This was fantastic and bookmarking it! Also there are supporter clubs all around the world and sometimes they might have an “in” for tix.

Thanks for the kind words, and great shout on the supporter clubs! Haven’t done it myself but I have definitely heard of folks securing tickets that way.

Brad Curtis

The best article explaining the process I’ve seen. Thank you! Do you know how many matches typically go on sale to start? Like is it through September, October etc?

Hey Brad, I appreciate the kind words! From what I’ve seen, the Premier League will finalize match times in 4-6 week blocks, and the clubs will put tickets for those matches on sale not long after that happens. So last year, when I went to matches in early August, I bought the tickets around the first week of July.

Nick

Thanks for the great information ! Do you have any recommendation regarding buying tickets for an away team? We are planning a trip to London and would like to watch Man City Vs Arsenal. The tickets online are very pricy for that game (over $600). I know these are the top 2 teams but didn’t expect these high prices .

Hi Nick, thanks for reading! Your best bet is probably to check first with the away team (Man City in this instance?) to see how they distribute away game tickets. The club membership should give you access to that, but of course the much smaller inventory will make demand very high. Another thing to look into, as a previous commenter mentioned, is checking with supporter clubs to see if you can get access to tickets through them. Hope that helps!

Amit

This is super useful info. Thanks a lot. I’m travelling to London next month and hoping to catch a couple of games. Are you saying all tickets sold in the secondary market will require the original ticket holder’s credentials to enter the stadium?

Thanks Amit! The answer to your question is yes, depending on the club. Because in some cases members don’t have individual game tickets but rather membership passes. When someone sells you a ticket for a game, they are in essence lending you their membership pass. If you buy a ticket on the secondary market, be sure to pay attention to the method of delivery.

Michael

Greetings! I am also a So Cal Spurs fan. This page was extremely helpful. Does one have to buy two memberships to buy a single match hospitality tickets? Would you be nervous buying tickets through livefootballtickets?

Hey Michael, thanks for the kind words! Usually with hospitality you don’t have to be a member at all, but it depends on the club. (With Spurs I believe that’s the case.) Also, I have bought from LiveFootballTickets before and had no issue. So I would be fine going that route, though if it were me I’d do my best to buy from the club first.

Jaime

Hi Edward. I got the memberships for Man City and Tottenham. I haven’t been able to get tickets so far. I see tickets in livefootball tickets and even though they are marked up they are not overly expensive. I see that you bought tickets with them. I want to try to see 2 games the weekend that I’m in London. I’m waiting on the next round of tickets to be opened but having to buy a membership to buy tickets is also expensive.

Hi Jaime — I think it’s up to you whether you think the prices you see on livefootballtickets are worth it. If you already have the memberships though, and there’s still a release coming for the matches you want, maybe see if you can buy tickets that way first?

Even if you buy secondary, having a membership usually makes it much easier for the seller to transfer their tickets to you, so it’s still worth it that way.

Thanks Edward. Yes I will keep trying on the next release. Also thanks for the tip about the transfer being easier if I have a membership. I really want to go to the games.

scott

Great information here! I noticed some of the EPL clubs will have a direct link on their site to 3rd Party Sellers (like P1 Travel) that have seat & hotel packages. Prices seem to be high but I wonder if it’s worth the headache of managing multiple memberships and playing the waiting game? Any thoughts on that process? Again thanks for the article.

Thanks for reading, Scott! I’d certainly be more willing to go with a service that is being touted by the clubs themselves, as it’s clear they have a relationship so I’d worry less about something going wrong. I think they’re worth the peace of mind, but I’d understand if people don’t want to pay the extra cost. As for the memberships, if I decide to buy one, that’s sort of a commitment on my part to do what I can to buy tickets with it. That’s just my POV though. If an easier path to buying tickets came along that …  Read more »

Bought 2024 Monza GP tickets after…

Bought 2024 Monza GP tickets after there were no good seats available from the race track. Found them recommended from online searches. Tickets arrived a few weeks before the race, and no issues at the track getting in the gate all three days! Highly recommend and I would use P1 again!

P1 Travel Took Our F1 Weekend to the Next Level!

Our first F1 experience at Monza was EPIC, all thanks to P1 Travel! We scored a free upgrade to the Grandstand, and the views were unbeatable. The whole weekend was smooth, exciting, and more than we ever imagined. Can’t wait for the next race – definitely booking with P1 Travel again!

Match package to Leverkusen

Overall it was very good experience, it was easy to book, updates throughout around tickets and hotels etc and then tickets arrived in plenty of time. The only thing that stopped it being a 5* was that the we paid an upgrade for hotel but when we arrived it was having a refurbishment so the restaurant or bar were closed and we wasn’t told this when booking. I think it would be better if the match tickets were available on phone for download to the wallet.

Great experience we are eager to repeat

We had a great experience! We were informed accurately in the process of purchase and receiving of the tickets. Even there was a problem with the date of the event and they found a solution. So, we could see our favourite team in file 3, and our son could enjoy the event from minute one, watching his idols very, very close. Thanks a lot.

Absolutely amazing for me…

Absolutely amazing experience for me and my partner. The beautiful city of Barcelona. Super easy to get to via the metro and while it is a long walk up to the stadium it has great sites along to way.

The Monza Grand Prix - An unbelievable trip!

Being in the throng of the Tifosi under the overhanging podium of Monza after a Ferrari win. Does it get any better than that? I was concerned at buying tickets not knowing for certain where i was sat in the stand but in honesty I wouldn't of picked anywhere else. Delivered to my inbox in good time with a handy guide to the day included also. A truly magical once in a lifetime experience.

Bought tickets for the F1 Italian GP, great service, really good seats and the tickets arrived a month before the race, would definitely recommend

First time attending a F1 GP and…

First time attending a F1 GP and everything went perfectly. Tickets were perfectly received weeks before the event. Details provided were fine enough to find our way. Tips were very helpful. I recommend P1 Travel 100% and have already booked again new tickets for Doha GP with them. Thanks team for your professionalism and quick support!

Poor experience - duplicate tickets - no seats!

We bought four seats together for Mallorca v Real Madrid in August 2024 for £1000 Euro. When we arrived there were people in our seats. One steward told us the tickets had been duplicated, two other stewards said we didn't have enough information on our tickets. It was too noisy to make calls but I did send four urgent emails to P1 travel before/during game which were ignored for days. Steward finally found two lots of two seats, in separate blocks, so we could not sit together as a family. we also missed the start of the match. I complained to P1 travel they (eventually) apologised and acknowledged the situation but refused to help. Update: Their reply below suggests they are working towards a resolution - again not true - I've had no direct contact since they refused to help me.

Reply from P1 Travel

Hello Ann, Thank you for your feedback, and I'm truly sorry to hear about your experience at the Mallorca v Real Madrid match. I understand how frustrating it must have been for your family to be separated and miss the start of the game. For situations like this, we have an emergency number that can be called during the event. This allows us to contact the club immediately and resolve the issue on-site. I see we are now in contact via email, and we will get back to you as soon as possible to address your concerns. Kind regards, Max

Super easy to buy the tickets, fair price and tickets on time!

I was able to buy tickets that I could not buy directly from the F1 website, the buying process was super easy and simples. I received the tickets 35 days or so before the event and during the event I didn't have any issues whatsoever. Really recommend P1 travel!!

NEVER BUY FOOTBALL TICKETS FROM P1

Booked Napoli fc tickets for me and my partner for our stay in Naples only to find our allocated seats had people in them already. We also found 4 other British couples who’d done the same only to find their seats taken as well. Security told us to sit on the steps to the side of the seats which is utterly disgraceful. There was a complete disregard to health and safety standards which we in the UK know all to well about given previous incidents in the past. P1 need to have a conversation with the football clubs they get their tickets off. Absolute shambles!

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are very sorry to hear about your experience, as this is the first time we are hearing about such an issue. As an official ticket partner, this is certainly not something that should happen, and we take it very seriously. We would like to investigate this further to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Could you please get in contact with us via email at [email protected], attention to Max? We would like to look into this matter and work toward a resolution. With kind regards, Max

Monza F1 Tickets - Great!

We booked tickets for the Monza F1 2024. They were reasonably priced and still had good availability despite us booking only a few months before the race. The tickets arrived over email 3 days before the event (as stated) and worked perfectly. We had zero issues, I would definitely recommend and use again.

I am very pleased and will definitely be returning!

Very easy to use. Tickets worked perfectly and the hotel check in was simple! Everything was sent around 4 days in advance into my email (tickets and hotel reservation). The hotel also had simple directions to the track prepared and it was very accessible. Highly recommend and I will definitely be using this company in the future for F1 events. What a weekend at Monza 2024, one to remember.

Serie A Tickets for Lazio

Great service from P1. Tickets were competitively priced to tickets direct from club, and I could buy 5 together which I needed for my family(limited to 4 from club website). Tickets were in the Tribuna Tevere and were received 5+ days before match so they could be printed. Atmosphere was amazing and easily the best I have ever experienced. Will def use P1 again for tickets.

The experience with P1 was fantastic

The experience with P1 was fantastic. They did everything they said they were going to do- received tickets the week of the race, worked perfectly. F1 is always expensive…which is my only “eye roll” in this entire transaction but the experience with P1 is definitely 5 star.

My tickets to the Monza GP came well…

My tickets to the Monza GP came well before the Grand Prix and I had no issue getting in with them. Thank you so much for the excellent seating as well, I will never forget the experience thanks to you

Why so difficult to speak to someone?

The tickets were reasonably priced, but the Comms were terrible. I don't know why my tickets could not have been sent in advance, but waiting until a few days before (when you have to travel, we were flying to Milan) just adds unnecessary stress. I'm my case, my tickets arrived addressed to other users, with a different face value. I assumed they'd somehow sent me the wrong tickets, but that's when I really started to worry. I tried calling, emailing and web chat for a whole morning, but I could not get hold of a human being, or get any kind of response (I think it's really poor when you can't speak to done after calling 20 times). It was stressful! Eventually (after 4hrs), I did get an email explaining it was normal to have alternative names on the tickets, and the face value was not important. WHY NOT SAY THIS WITH THE TICKETS?! The event was brilliant (Monza GP). And the tickets were actually fine, but could have done without the stress.
