About x japan.

X Japan (Japanese: エックス・ジャパン, Hepburn: Ekkusu Japan) is a Japanese heavy metal band from Chiba, formed in 1982 by drummer Yoshiki and lead vocalist Toshi. Predominantly a power/speed metal band with heavy symphonic elements, they later gravitated towards a progressive sound with an emphasis on ballads. Besides being one of the first Japanese acts to achieve mainstream success while on an independent label, the group is widely credited as one of the pioneers of visual kei, a movement among Japanese musicians comparable to Western glam. Originally named X (エックス, Ekkusu), they released their debut album Vanishing Vision (1988) on Yoshiki's own Extasy Records a year after finalizing their line-up including bassist Taiji, lead guitarist hide and rhythm guitarist Pata. They achieved breakthrough success in 1989 with the release of their second and major debut album Blue Blood. Following 1991's Jealousy, Taiji left the band in early 1992. He was replaced by Heath and the group changed their name to X Japan before producing the mini album Art of Life (1993), which is composed solely of the 29-minute title track. In 1995 the group dropped most of its original visual kei aesthetics in favor of a more casual look and released Dahlia (1996), which like their two previous albums debuted at number one. X Japan performed their last concert at the Tokyo Dome on December 31, 1997, making it the last of five consecutive sold-out New Year's Eve concerts the group held at the stadium. After ten years, X Japan reunited in 2007 and recorded the new song "I.V.". Over the next two years they performed several concerts, including their first overseas show in Hong Kong, and formally added Sugizo as lead guitarist in place of hide, who died in 1998, before holding a North American tour in 2010. In 2011, the band went on their first world tour throughout Europe, South America and Asia. X Japan has released five studio albums, six live albums, and 21 singles. In 2003, HMV Japan ranked the band at number 40 on their list of the 100 most important Japanese pop acts. In 2007, Rolling Stone Japan ranked Blue Blood number 15 on its list of the 100 Greatest Japanese Rock Albums of All Time. In 2017, Loudwire named X Japan the Best Metal Band from Japan. It has been reported that X Japan have sold over 30 million records.

Yoshiki Announces Classical Shows, New X Japan Single

The setlist will feature new compositions, performances of X Japan songs, and more

Yoshiki , legendary classical musician and leader of the metal band X Japan , has announced 2023 dates for his “Yoshiki Classical 10th Anniversary World Tour.” Along with the news, he’s also shared that he has a new single, “Requiem,” coming July 21st, and X Japan’s first single in eight years, “Angel,” will be released on July 28th.

Celebrating a full decade of his  Yoshiki Classical  album, the tour setlist will feature “new compositions, orchestral performances of [Yoshiki’s] chart-topping songs from X Japan and his new groups, and pieces by classical composers Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff.”

“Last year in May I lost my mother,” Yoshiki said in a press release. “At that time, I couldn’t do anything. I had to cancel my live TV shows, and I actually went to see a doctor, The tears kept coming for days. Then I started composing this song called ‘Requiem.’ I thought I should move forward, I shouldn’t give up. To move forward and to really thank my fans who supported me, I decided to do this tour.”

Along with a few shows in Tokyo, Yoshiki will also perform concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, and New York’s Carnegie Hall this October, making him the first Japanese artist ever to headline some of these iconic venues.

Tickets to Yoshiki’s US shows can be purchased via Ticketmaster , while details on his others shows can be found at  his website . Once tickets are on sale, you can also find them at StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. In March 2022, Yoshiki helped raise nearly $5 million to humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

If you want to see what a real rock concert is like, you have to go and see X Japan perform one of their legendary live shows. Arguably one of the most influential bands to ever come out of Japan, the 5 piece band are renowned for their extravagant costumes, props, staging, and lighting throughout their shows.

The lights went down and strobes came flashing over the auditorium as the band made their way to the stage. Everyone was screaming and going crazy for the band as they held up their hands in the air and accepted the tumultuous applause. They opened the show with Endless Rain, and each musician took a lengthy solo on their instrument to welcome themselves to the show, whilst Toshi, the lead vocalist, was singing improvised sections over the top of their playing.

Although over the years the band have split up and got back together and have played through many genres of rock and metal, their recent show demonstrated a great variety of their work over the years and they really played to please the crowd. Their visual kei elements remained which was great, because of course that’s what drew people to them originally.

Their music goes from beautiful classical piano to fast heavy/speed metal. Yoshiki (the leader) never releases anything until it's perfect which makes sense cause all of their songs are really good (especially the masterpiece "Art of life". if you get to hear this song live, feel privileged.) The amount of time they put into making their music is insane so when it comes to X Japan, you know you're getting some good quality music.

They are honestly one of the few bands out there that sounds much better live.

They're very skilled performers/musicians and it's just mind blowing seeing people like that live. On top of that, they're extremely humble (almost too humble (?)) if you think about their status, especially in Japan. They're basically seen as Gods.

Overall, X Japan concerts are fucking badass.

If you get the chance to see X Japan, grab it.

X Japan kicks off their Japan tour in Ishinomaki.

X Japan begins their Japan tour in Ishinomaki, honoring Yoshiki’s promise back in September 2013 to return to the city and perform a charity concert. Only 150 tickets are available for this intimate show with proceeds going to Central Community Chest of Japan.

75 tickets will be auctioned on Yahoo! Japan while the other 75 tickets will remain free for residents in Ishinomaki, Higashimatsuyama, and Onagawa. Residents of these cities can enter to win a ticket on the Yahoo! Japan auction site.

NEWS:  We Are X Documentary Film To Make Its World Premiere at 2016 Sundance Film Festival

The film We Are X , directed by Stephen Kijak ( Stones In Exile, Scott Walker – 30 Century Man, Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of) and produced by John Battsek’s UK-based Passion Pictures, producers of the Oscar-winning One Day in September and Searching For Sugar Man, will make its world premiere in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival . We Are X is a feature documentary about X Japan and its singular three decade-long evolution.  The premiere marks the first time that a Japanese rock band has been the focus of a film to play in competition at the World Cinema documentary category. The 2016 Sundance Film Festival takes place January 21-31 in Park City, Utah.

X Japan kicked off the first show of their World Tour in a small club called Blue Resistance in Ishinomaki, Miyagi-Prefecture in Japan on November 28th. Ishinomaki was among the most seriously affected areas by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake a nd  Tsunami. Yoshiki visited Ishinomaki after the Tsunami disaster along with Blue Resistance in September of 2012, and made a promise then to start his first show ofX Japan’s upcoming world tour in the same venue. Only 150 tickets were available for the show, 75 were given to residents of Miyagi-Prefecture, and 75 were auctioned off at Yahoo Japan’s auction, resulting in JPY28,289,358 – roughly $230,000 in total sales...

Due to completely unforeseen circumstances, X JAPAN have announced that their show at SSE Arena Wembley , scheduled for March 12, 2016 , has now been postponed to March 4, 2017 . All original tickets sold will be honored at the new 2017 date.

PATA (guitarist) was admitted to the ICU at a hospital in Tokyo on January 15, 2016. He was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition, which included a severe blood clot. He recently came out of the ICU and his condition has thankfully stabilized, however his doctors do not consider him fit to fly until he has made a full recovery. 

After much discussion, X JAPAN has announced a suspension of their current performance commitments, which include the Wembley show. Given the unfortunate circumstances, the release of X JAPAN’s new album, scheduled for a March 11, 2016 has also been postponed. Expect a rescheduled worldwide release date for their as-yet-untitled new album to be announced soon.

Yoshiki Performs David Bowie Tribute and Art of Life

Yoshiki performed at the Classic Rock Awards held at Ryogoku Kokugikan this past Friday, November 11. Yoshiki made history by becoming the first-ever artist to be honored with the “Asian Icon Award.” Based at the venerable Roundhouse venue in London, the Classic Rock Awards are widely recognized by the world’s rock stars as the “annual must-attend event,” bringing together artists from rock’s global Hall of Fame.

The show was held in Japan this year for the first time ever, and with this memorable timing Yoshiki became the first Asian artist to accomplish this great achievement. Rock royalty including Jeff Beck, ELO, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, Def Leppard, Richie Sambora, Cheap Trick attended the event and gave Yoshiki rave reviews for his performance featuring classical renditions of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and X Japan’s masterpiece “Art Of Life.”

“So many artists in Asia are going overseas and Asian rock is growing worldwide,” Yoshiki said as he accepted the award. “X Japan is proud to be one of them and if there’s a wall between east and west, the wall is getting lower and thinner. I’m going to break this wall. It’s an honor to receive this award. I would like to dedicate this award to the X Japan members especially Hide and Taiji. Thank you very much.”

NEWS: X JAPAN TOUR CONFIRMED! 

During a press conference held in Tokyo on June 9th, X Japan members Toshl, Pata, and Heath, along with host Udo Artists, Inc., announced that the “X JAPAN WORLD TOUR 2017 WE ARE X” concerts in Japan at Osaka-jo Hall (July 11 and 12) and Yokohama Arena (July 14, 15, 16, and 17) will be performed as acoustic concerts. The title of the tour will be changed to “X JAPAN WORLD TOUR 2017 WE ARE X Acoustic Special Miracle 6 DAYS.”

Although Yoshiki successfully underwent cervical artificial disk replacement surgery and has already started the rehabilitation process, doctors have instructed him to stay away from vigorous exercise for at least 6 months and he cannot play the drums for the time being. However, since Yoshiki does not want these scheduled concerts to be canceled due to his surgery, X Japan members explained during today’s press conference that these performances will continue as “acoustic” concerts, where Yoshiki will only play the piano. 

During the conference, there was also a phone call from Yoshiki, who is currently going through recovery in Los Angeles. After conveying his message of “I want to move forward. I’d love to be given a chance to do the shows,” Yoshiki also revealed that the “EVENING WITH YOSHIKI 2017 IN NAGOYA & OSAKA & TOKYO JAPAN” premium dinner shows this summer will also continue as scheduled.

NEWS: YOSHIKI MAKES FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE SINCE SURGERY "THIS WAS HIDE AND TAIJI'S DREAM… A COMEBACK WAS THE ONLY CHOICE."​

Yoshiki made a sudden return to Japan on June 20th and held a press conference in Tokyo.

Yoshiki announced that the upcoming X Japan tour would feature a screening of the special, 60- minute edition of the film We Are X which debuted at the Wembley Arena show in March earlier this year. Yoshiki personally disclosed ongoing discussions about whether to include old songs such as “Rose of Pain” and “Unfinished” in the set list as well as the fact that a string section will accompany him on stage.

Physiotherapist Carl Dunstan also arrived in Japan from the UK and will be accompanying the band throughout the tour to ensure that Yoshiki, who is only a few weeks post-surgery, will be able to complete the performances.

Mr. Dunstan belongs to the physiotherapist organization Atherapy, which counts numerous

renowned artists and actors such as U2 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers among its clients, and is himself an accomplished professional who was Daniel Craig's exclusive physiotherapist during production of the 007 film Spectre and has treated many other famous actors and musicians. He was able to accompany the tour thanks to an introduction from Larry Mullen, Jr., the drummer for U2, with whom Yoshiki is acquainted.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the plans for the Yoshiki Premium Dinner Show 2017, which begins August 26th, had designated from its inception that 150,000 dollars (approximately 18 million yen) of the sales would be donated to charity, and that the staging of the show itself was decided upon with these plans in mind.

There were also moments in the press conference where Yoshiki described his experience of going through rehabilitation. "I don't know if I will be able to play the drums again. Even if I am able to do so, it may be impossible to perform with the same intensity as before. I can't even say for sure, at this point, whether I would do so if I could."

"If there were no X Japan reunion, I would not have had surgery twice. But the time put into the reunion and the challenge of taking on the world are worthwhile. I do not regret it. And I will not stop until I break down the wall."

Having overcome that surgery with the support of myriad members and fans, and with the goal of completing the Japan tour serving as a kind of fuel, he has decided to "show the best of myself on stage." No doubt Yoshiki's resolve will be engraved into history by six miraculous nights.

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT RE: ANIME EXPO

Due to a change in rehearsal schedule for X  Japan 's  upcoming tour, YOSHIKI regrettably must cancel his planned appearance at this weekend's Anime Expo in L.A. X Japan rehearsals are taking longer due to his recovery from neck surgery. YOSHIKI apologized  to Anime Expo as well as his fans on his twitter.

YOSHIKI was expected to make his first post-surgery USA appearance at Anime Expo. As of now ,  YOSHIKI still plans to travel to Paris, France, for the French theatrical preview of We Are X (July 6) and Japan Expo (July 7), before kicking off X JAPAN World Tour 2017 on July 11 in Japan .

TOMORROW X TOGETHER(トゥモローバイトゥギャザー) は、2019年にデビューした男性アイドルグループ。 BTS(バンタン/防弾少年団) と同じBIGHIT MUSICに所属する。メンバーはスビン・ヨンジュン・ボムギュ・テヒョン・ヒュニンカイの5人。グループ名は「共通の夢を抱く者同士で共に明日を作り出していく」という意味から名付けられている。また、グループ名の略称は”TXT(ティーエックスティー)”と呼ばれ、一部ファンの間では”투바투(トゥバトゥ)"、"투바(トゥバ)"としても親しまれている。4枚目のリリースとなるミニアルバム『minisode 2: Thursday's Child』は売上数が124万枚超えを記録しており、韓国のサークルチャートで1位を獲得。彼らの楽曲は『らせんの迷宮～DNA科学捜査～』や『ブラッククローバー』のオープニングテーマに起用され、着々と日本での知名度もあげている。2023年4月には 丸善インテックアリーナ大阪(大阪市中央体育館) 公演を皮切りに日本コンサート「TOMORROW X TOGETHER WORLD TOUR ＜ACT : SWEET MIRAGE＞ in JAPAN」が4都市で開催され、7月には 京セラドーム大阪（大阪ドーム） での追加公演も行われた。すでに欧米でも高い評価を受ける彼らの魅力を知る者は今後更に広がっていくだろう。また2024年1月9日〜3月10日まで BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA で開催される D’FESTA FUKUOKA では、TOMORROW X TOGETHERの写真・映像も飾られた。同年3月8日には記念すべきデビュー5周年を日本ファンと一緒に過ごすため来日。日本初のオフラインファンライブ「 2024 TXT FANLIVE PRESENT X TOGETHER JAPAN EDITION 」を 東京ガーデンシアター で開催。さらに7月からはワールドツアーの日本公演として「 TOMORROW X TOGETHER WORLD TOUR ＜ACT : PROMISE＞ IN JAPAN 」が予定されている。独特な世界観とパフォーマンスが魅力の彼らがどんなコンサートを見せてくれるのか、期待したい。
