What you'll do

Experience Fort Worth’s spectactual food, rich Western history and diverse architecture in this two-hour walking tour in and around Sundance Square.

John F Kennedy famously said, “There are no faint hearts in Fort Worth” and he was right! Fort Worth is the hidden gem in the DFW area that is well worth the 30-minute drive from downtown Dallas. Award-winning cuisine meets Old West tradition as we explore four of the best restaurants in town.

Along the way, hear the story of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. See all the diverse architecture in the downtown area. And visit one of the best Western art museums in the country with works by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell.

Our unique pay-as-you-go model lets you enjoy more of what you want for less money, a better value than comparable food tours. Simply hand the guide $35 cash on your arrival, and the guide will take care of the rest. They’ll pay for the entire group at each of our four stops, minimizing wait time. Paying cash also makes it easy for each restaurant to offer more food so you’re guaranteed Texas-sized servings.

Go west for the best of everything with our Fort Worth food tour — you will not be disappointed and you will definitely not leave hungry!

The SOUL OF DFW Experience

Soul of DFW’s mission is to educate the community on the significance of Black culture through cuisine and local history.

Founder and Chief Historical Guide Deah Berry Mitchell curates tours that allows guests to visit historical landmarks and learn about the contributions of the Dallas and Fort Worth metro area via cuisine and history.

There are designated stops at Black-owned restaurants for tastings of a selected menu item.

Attendees are able to take in the sites stress-free from the comfort of a chauffeured, air-conditioned bus.

Our exclusive tours are the perfect way to engage ALL employees in diversity appreciation OR educate students and faculty in a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

Our Original Founder & CoFOUNDER in 2017

Deah berry mitchell.

I'm a fulltime Black culture historian and  writer residing in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

A double graduate of Southern Methodist University, I enjoy traveling and immersing myself into other cultures. Currently pursuing my Ph.D. in history at the University of North Texas.

While vacationing in 2017, I had the idea to produce a bus tour that would combine my two passions: cuisine and local cultural history.

When I got back, I suggested to my friend and public relations manager, Dalila Thomas, that we partner together to produce this new concept.

In February 2018 we officially launched!

I relaunched the new and improved tours in April 2022 after pandemic restrictions were eased under my newly formed "umbrella" company - Nostalgia Black. Tourism is one of the services offered to amplify Black history and increase knowledge of cultural heritage and traditions. Currently pursuing my PhD in History, I am passionate about expanding our knowledge of local Black history.

I'm planning to expand into other test markets soon.

“Cornbread & Collard Greens: How West African Cuisine and Slavery Influenced Soul Food” !
