Are you an avid scrapbooker? I was always too busy blogging to add one more medium to my efforts to journal my travels, but many of my friends love the scrapbooks they have created over the years.

You will want to collect and save memorabilia from your trip such as ticket stubs, vouchers, a napkin, postcards, and receipts. And the hardcopy scrapbooks will give you a great excuse to print your photos and then look back through the pages.

Permission Granted to Delete Some Travel Photos

<GASP>

Did I really just suggest that you should DELETE some of your travel photos? Yes. Yes, I did.

In case YOU need to hear this today, I am giving you permission to delete some of your photos. Yes! You.

Why? You need to get rid of your photo clutter too.

Pictures to Delete:

• So the burst of pictures you took of the Eiffel Tower? You only need one from that angle
• Blurry or badly composed photos
• Unflattering photos of you or your family members (unless you need them for future blackmail opportunities!)
• Screenshots – Are you snapping a quick pic of your train ticket so you won’t forget your seat number? Delete it
• Selfies – Only keep the ones that are really great
• Reminders – I often take pictures of restaurant names, city names, etc. as I travel. These pics are NOT my best work. They are informational. You don’t need to keep them once you have retrieved the information you need
• Super short video clips
• Memes, recipes, kids’ school work that you sent to grandma. Delete it or create a file for them and download it
• Unintentional Photos or Videos – How many videos or photos did you snap that you didn’t even realize you took? You don’t need that shot of your left leg. Delete it .

Composition Tips

• Consider the light and your light sources
• Use the rule of thirds
• Try to not have objects sprouting out of your subject’s head
• Use natural frames
• Find leading lines as you compose your photo
• Shoot from a creative angle
• Try to capture a reflection
• Focus on the eyes
• Make sure your focus is spot on

And don’t forget to STRAIGHTEN YOUR PHOTOS PEOPLE! This happens to be a pet peeve of mine.

I am insanely talented at taking photos that are not straight, ie., the horizon slants horribly to the right.

When I get home and look at the wonkiness of the horizon or the leaning tower of anything in my travel photos, I wonder how I could have taken such a crooked photo!

If this is you as well, not to worry: photo editing programs allow you to crop and straighten the horizon or buildings or whatever on all of your photos.

Photography Travel Gear

I take photos everyday and everywhere. Sometimes I quickly grab my phone before the opportunity is gone, and sometimes I use my DSLR for a well-composed quality shot.

And…sometimes when I travel, I have both my phone and my camera ready to go (I look like such a tourist!)

You may encounter people who are passionate about their brand of camera. There has long been a debate about which camera brand is the best—Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc. The answer?  Whatever camera you have with you !!!

We have created photo books for gifts and they were always hugely appreciated. But I must admit we don’t have any of our great photos as art on the walls. I always have an online photo gallery when we travel and share it with friends and family to travel with us. And we stream our photos to our Apple TV and enjoy them over and over again. But I sure which my hubby would get better at deleting photos so he can get his to me quicker for the blog so it is not just my photos.

Five creative ways to display your travel photos

There hasn't been much travel this year but that does mean that many of us have been looking to make our living space that little bit brighter.

Whether you're still in lockdown, looking for the perfect gift or just enjoying some downtime over the holidays, you can keep the sweet memories of past adventures alive. Here are a few suggestions for personalizing your living spaces with vacation photos trapped on your digital devices.

1. Put a frame around it

A digital photo frame is one of the easiest ways to display your travel images. The latest generation of digital photo frames are Wi-Fi enabled and make it easy to link to popular social media and cloud-storage services without a big time commitment. Nixplay , for example, has free-standing and wall-mounted frames that connect to Dropbox , Google Photos , Facebook and Instagram .

The Nixplay mobile app unlocks more features, including collection curation, viewing preferences and sharing options. Digital frames also make great gifts for less tech-savvy family members from whom you’re socially distanced. You can create a dedicated email address so you and other family members can send photos directly to their frame.

2. Create a photo book of your past vacations

Instead of swiping through your travel photos on your phone, turn them into real page turners with a photo book. They can be organized by theme, color or by specific trips. No matter how they are curated, make sure to pick only the images you really love. Fewer photos will have maximum impact on the page, but you break up the book with collages of smaller images, too.

While services like Blurb , Mixbook , Printique , Costco , Mpix , Shutterfly , and Artifact Uprising have templates and tools that will help automate the process, they don’t always populate the layout in a way that makes sense.

Here’s some advice from Steph Lehman, a photo book editor and graphic designer for Far-Country Press , an independent book publisher based in Helena, Montana: “I like many options to work with for subjects and locations, including different orientations, color schemes, choices for usage as main images or accent photos, etc.”

3. Experiment with unexpected print surfaces

Society6 is an online marketplace for artists who sell their artwork printed on a variety of media, from more traditional framed prints to all kinds of home décor items and consumer goods. Anyone can join, which means you can upload your own travel photos and even make money selling them if you’re looking for a side hustle.

Don’t expect a windfall since you’ll probably want to buy all the cool products adorned with your travel photos. Among other things, you can beautify your home office with a photo calendar, enhance your daily meditation with a printed yoga mat and drift off to sleep snuggled under a custom-designed comforter.

There are all kinds of online printing services with unique products on which to print, including lampshades ( Zazzle ), wood boards ( PhotoBarn ), metal ( Artbeat Studios ), acrylic ( Mpix ) and peel-and-stick fabric ( SnapBox ).

4. Go big with a wall mural or photo wall

It may feel like your world has shrunk a little, but your travel photos can be larger than life. Photo wall murals can make you feel like you’re sleeping in a Scandinavian forest or dining on a white-sand beach at dusk. Murals Your Way , for example, will take your photo and wall dimensions and create custom wallpaper with a water-activated adhesive backing. 

Kelsey Miller, a copy editor based in Chicago, likes to find unique ways for displaying images. She went the DIY route to save some money on a photo wall in her living room. “The image on my wall is a cloth tapestry I purchased from Society6 ,” she says. “I cut it into 12 pieces with a rotary cutter (for a super clean cut), then used a cornstarch/water paste to ‘glue’ them to the back of 12 square frames from IKEA. The best part is that I can peel off the tapestry and the cornstarch/water paste washes off with soap and water, so I can always replace it.” 

Photo walls can also be groupings of many different travel photos like the one Cleveland art director Stephanie Park has in her home. “They are from all different places, but I’ve made them cohesive by printing them in black and white. They are in silver frames of all different sizes and styles.”

5. Don’t underestimate the power of a classic print

Printing out your photos isn’t a new idea, but chances are most of your images have stayed trapped in the digital realm. Give your memories some space in the real world and blow them up to appreciate the details on traditional photo paper. “Do your research before you print,” says Vincent McCracken of Mpix , the online arm of Miller’s Professional Imaging , the largest professional photo lab in the United States.

“While drugstores or big box stores might be a convenient way to print your photos, some use cheap paper and your color will vary widely from print to print.” Mpix uses certified archival quality papers and has in-house experts that personally review photos to ensure perfect color on every print. Their standard E-surface paper, which has a pearl finish that you commonly see in wedding albums, reduces glare, which you would normally get from printing on glossy paper.

5. Think outside the frame

There are all kinds of non-traditional ways to show off your travel photos on a wall. You can spend hours on Pinterest and other social media sites exploring all the possibilities. Some of my favorite ideas for exhibiting travel photos include wooden hanger frames , fairy string lights with clips , postcard racks and vintage luggage tags . Finally, if you’re one of those people who hoarded toilet paper at the onset of Covid-19, you can turn the empty cardboard rolls into frames , too.

How to Create the Perfect Travel Photo Gallery Wall

A Travel Photo Gallery Wall is the perfect way to help your vacations keep on giving you inspiration and fond memories. Let your love of that dream destination continue to grow with a travel picture wall, well after the plane has touched down.

One of the best parts about traveling is being able to re-live the sights seen and memories created.  A fun way our family does this is by having a travel gallery on our wall with a map .

Where to put a Travel Photo Gallery Wall?

When we started traveling a lot as a family, we wanted something to strengthen our good memories of trips together and inspire future travel. We looked at lots of travel wall ideas.

We considered collecting travel wall decor from different destinations. Ultimately, but we decided our own memories from the lens of our own cameras and our viewpoint would be the best way to make our travels last forever.

We chose to create our wall of travel photos on a spacious and open wall in our master bedroom right next to our bed. Travel is a priority in our family, so it’s our private travel wall gallery. We aren’t showing off to our friends and family all our travel experiences, but rather keeping them close to our hearts and minds in our private room.

My husband and I cuddle up together and reminisce about our trips on the walls. We love seeing how little our kids were on past trips. Then when we get home from a trip, we enjoy going through our travel pictures and picking the best one to represent our feelings of the destination and our trip there.

We all use the travel photo gallery wall and push pin map to create future trip ideas and plans together.

Adding photos of our most recent adventures sometimes means we have to take out an old photo, but we keep a file of all our travel photos used in the past. Changing the travel photos on the wall make it look ‘new and different’ which sometimes is hard to do in a home.

Travel Wall of Photos | Before and After

Our previous wall was a collection of random frames and different sizes of travel photos. We added the travel photos on our wall as we took new trips – with whatever frame we could find.  We added new frames and photos as we went so it was a bit chaotic.

Not to mention the ugly yellow and red wall! we were due for an update!

When we recently repainted our master bedroom, we wanted to be more intentional in creating our travel gallery.  In the past, we would find a random new frame for a new trip photo and cram it into space on the wall.

My goals for the new gallery wall with a map included:

• Display many of our favorite travel photos
• Professional Push pin map to help us track our trips and plan future trips
• Look Clean and Organized

How to Create a Travel Picture Wall

1. push pin map.

A travel Gallery photo wall needs to include a push pin map! I love the maps ready complete with the foam backing to easily stick pins in our vacation spots. A travel map helps you envision the world and be curious about a variety of places to see.

Push Pin maps are high quality and look gorgeous. There are so many options to choose from, you are sure to find exactly what works for your style and travel type.

Here are some travel wall ideas to consider as your pick your map.

• USA or World map?
• Artistic Map or Accurate Map?
• Busy Map or Simple Design?
• Colorful or muted tones?

After looking for many, many options, we decided that even though the artistic maps were more aesthetically pleasing, a map with accurate cities and roads would meet our needs better. 

However, with our new room colors and simple design, we wanted a map that had muted tones and was easy to look at from a distance.  We found a simple earth-toned map with major cities and roads listed. It is perfect!

• How many photos?
• Landscape only or with people in the photos?
• Label photos with date or location?
• Artistic prints or random assortment

Keep in mind that most of your best travel photographs will be landscape not vertical. You’ll need more wide frames than long frames.  There will be the occasional tall photos (like the Eiffel Tower, Tower of Pisa or Gateway Arch ). so don’t limit to only landscape. We opted for a design that gave us minimal vertical photo spaces and plentiful landscape options.

Do you want only artistic photos or some with your family in them?  We opted for some of both.  We love seeing how little our kids were on certain trips and talking about their changing looks and personality through the years. But we also enjoy using our photography skills to capture the perfect perspective at our destination.

Do you want to label your photos with locations or years?  We put a small tag on each photo with the location and year.  Even though we thought we would remember every trip forever, after 6 years of traveling, we realized we were wrong.  When we would look at our wall we were forgetting when and where we experienced things.

If you print all your photos at the same time, it is much cheaper to get 8x10s here  for only $.70 each.  There is a $9 shipping fee, so this is only cost effective if you are buying a large number of photos. We received 60 8 x 10s in a couple of days for half the cost of printing locally.

Do you want larger, decorative frames with mats or simple frames ? 

On our previous travel wall, the variety of frames and mats were distracting and chaotic. We just wanted to see our photos without the distraction of the frames. We purchased inexpensive, uniform frames . We ordered all the same frames in bulk and saved money.

If your budget allows, you may consider making canvas prints of your favorite photos.

4.Other Decor

Many travel galleries have beautiful pieces of decor mixed in.  Arrows, Quotes, Wooden plaques, or globes or travel souvenirs on a shelf might be a perfect addition to your travel display.  Look around for a favorite travel decoration to add to your travel photo gallery wall.

Our wall was just a little full, so we put travel decor in other locations in our home.

Total Cost of our Travel Photo Gallery Wall

• 60 8×10 prints= $35
• 36  5×7 prints =$28
• Push Pin Travel Map  = $120 ( includes the frame and pins)
• 60 8×10 frames and 36 5×7 frames = $88

Total for a new travel wall = $271

I think this is awesome and something I will definitely do. I just had my first child in September of 2017 and we’ve already traveled to North Carolina from Alaska together. My removable photo wall is an inexpensive and adaptable way to display your favourite travel photos.

This is the ultimate gallery photo wall to showcase a large number of photos at a relatively low cost . You can also continuously add photos, expanding the photo wall, as you travel to new places.

Why You Need A Removable Photo Wall?

I’m the person that goes on vacation and snaps at least 500 pictures… in one day alone…

The only problem with taking so many photos on vacation? There’s no way to display that many photos all at once, especially without breaking the bank. 

I could blow up, print, and frame my absolute favourite ones. But you can only do that to so many photos. You’ll run out of wall space pretty quickly this way, not to mention the high cost of buying that many picture frames. 

I also enjoy making photo books to recap the trip ( I like Shutterfly ). But, how often do you take those out to look at?

I wanted something that I could walk by every day , look at, and bring me back to the best moments on vacation. So I needed to find a better solution.

Making A Removable Gallery Photo Wall

The removable gallery photo wall was born with inspiration from your Instagram wall… I really like the clean and uniform look of an Instagram profile (p.s.  follow me on mine !). It’s also similar to the removable photo tiles for walls… but those are really expensive.

The only costs for my removable gallery photo wall was a few materials and the prints themselves.

The key to making it removable is using double sided removable tape ( see it on Amazon here ).

This way, you can add photos until you run out of wall space or even easily swap photos. 

DIY Photo Wall Ideas: Which Photos To Choose

Choosing the photos to display is the best part about a photo wall. You can choose all your favourite travel photos , there’s no having to choose your top 3 out of 50.

For the gallery wall to look aesthetically pleasing, I tried to mix up the contents and perspectives of each photo. For example, I printed some closeups, landscape, and others with us in them!

Editing & Cropping The Photos

For you gallery wall, you will have to edit your photos before printing them.

You’ll want to crop all your photos into a square aspect ratio (I went with 5×5 and loved the look). But see what size your printing studio offers.

I also added a white border to my prints, which added a nice separation between each photo. This way, the gallery wall doesn’t become too overwhelming.

*Depending on where you’re printing your photos, they might have an option to add a white border automatically to your prints. And you can sometimes crop your photo directly on the printing page as well. 

Printing The Photo Tiles For Wall

There are a few places that print photos in a square aspect ratio. I used Costco, but they’ve since closed their photo studio moving it to Shutterfly.

Shutterfly offers square prints in 4×4, 8×8, and 12×12 sizes. You can also crop your photo directly on their website and add a white border. Visit Shutterfly here .

Another important choice you have to make when printing is whether you want a glossy or matte finish .

I printed the photos with a glossy finish, because that’s my default choice for printing photos… but I regret it. When photos are on display on the wall, the glossy finish adds a lot of glare. If I were printing them again, I’d choose a matte finish to avoid this problem. 

What You’ll Need For Removable Wall Stickers Photos

There are a few basic items you’ll need to make your removable photo wall. Most of these should be easy to find at your local store or even on Amazon .

Double Sided Removable Tape

This is what makes your travel photo wall expandable and removable!

It’s important that you buy double sided removable tape and not just tape that’s double sided or removable. It’s also called poster tape, see it on Amazon here . 

With poster tape, you don’t have to fold over the tape or worry about ripping off paint when you take them down… possibly ruining the print itself. 

I’ve moved my photo wall three times now with the same tape! Sometimes I’ll have to add a bit more to certain photos, but not that much!

• This clear double stick tape securely mounts posters and lightweight objects to wall, Doors, Tile, glass, refrigerators, vinyl wallpaper, etc.
• It can be removed without damage
• Scotch mounting products have adhesive on both sides and allow the mounting of pictures, photographs, decorations, etc.
• Use Scotch wall mounting products on most surfaces including ceramic tile, wood surfaces, and non-flat painted walls.

A Level To Make Sure Your Photo Wall Is Straight

A level might just be the most important item you need because you’ll want to make sure the prints are straight on your wall.

The worst feeling is putting up 50 prints, stepping back to admire your work, and then realizing it’s not straight at all.

Putting Together Your Removable Photo Wall

This is probably the easiest DIY you’ll ever do.

With your level, draw the outline of your removable photo wall. You really only need to draw 2 connecting lines but you can level out all four sides if you want. This is a good idea to get a visual of the space and how big your photo wall will be (mine is 7 x 12).

To place the photos, you can either decide to wing it, or plan out where each photo will go (by setting it up on the floor first).

My strategy was to not place two to similar photos right next to each other. For example, I alternated between closeups, landscapes, and photos with people in them.   

To stick the photos to the wall, rip off a piece of double-sided tape that’s about 4 inches long (a bit shorter than the length of the print). Place 4 strips along each edges of the print. Align the print to the corner and stick it on when it’s straight. 

Repeat this step for all your prints. And Voila! Your photo wall is complete!

Upgrade Your Photo Wall

If you want to make your prints last longer and give your wall a more ‘ finished’ look , you can order a large custom frame for all your prints.

The photos inside the frame would still be removable, but it does complicate things as you have to take down the frame and open it each time. But I’ll admit, I love the look of an epic large frame! It’s just so grandiose.

But getting a frame this size will cost you as it will also have to be a custom size!

Travel writer Samantha Hamilton of New England Wanderlust hires local photographers on her trips to capture moments with style.

“I really value photos from my travels so I can look back on them when I'm older, and be reminded of all the amazing adventures I had,” she says. “My husband and I created a gallery wall in our bedroom, and each trip we take, we add another photo to it. As we get older and continue to travel, we can't wait to fill up our entire wall, and we love having tangible memories we can look at before bed each night.”

2 | Rotate travel photos with the seasons.

Just like with other seasonal decorations, travel memories can be rotated out of your home decor as well. That’s what content creator Giovanna Di Biccari does! Besides saving tickets or other passes to use as bookmarks, she rotates travel photos around throughout the year to remind her family of their global adventures.

“Those 4x7, 5x10, and 8x10s are replaced with a memory of something we did in that season,” Di Baccari says. “For example, I may have the picture of me and my daughter on the carousel in front of the Eiffel Tower. It was Christmas time when that picture was taken. It serves as a good reminder of how much we've done around the world, and it makes my daughter think to ask where exactly the place might have been.”

3 | Make your display festive.

Along a similar seasonal line, some travelers decide to decorate their holiday trees with travel trinkets. Little objects or ornaments are easy enough to bring home, so having a special travel-focused tree can be a great way to remember past trips.

“While on each holiday, I always buy a trinket to decorate the tree ,” says Leila Gear of Discovery Campervans . “I have a few ‘real’ decorations from these vacations (like glass baubles from Switzerland), but also makeshift ones—like a small souvenir beer stein from Oktoberfest or the little wooden elephant I bought from a monk in Thailand.”

Finding a pretty way to display travel memories gets a lot easier if those memories are captured in art. Collecting art pieces from a place gives you an insightful souvenir while also necessitating a way to display those memories. By bringing home art, travel writer Douglas Weissman can relive his memories time and time again.

“​​I have been to over 45 countries and each time I buy a form of art to either hang or display in my home,” he explained. “The art is generally from a local artist and can come in any artistic form, like a painting, photo, or jewelry. [C]hanging the medium also helps me find different spaces [in] which I can display the work. Place a photo on a dresser, hang a painting on a wall, or dangle a necklace from a trinket in an armoire. I find these treasures all around my house and each one sparks the memory of my time in that place.”

Collecting memories in a variety of forms means needing a unique way to display them. That’s where shadowboxes can really come in handy.

Alanna Koritzke , travel blogger at Periodic Adventures , loves to curate a shadowbox or two to commemorate her journeys. Koritzke hangs on to small things like ticket stubs and other trinkets along with her photos to put together later. “Instead of having these memories tucked away in a book, they're on display to remind me of all my favorite travels and to stay on top of my finances so I can go somewhere else to make more memories!” she says.

6 | Send yourself postcards.

Gallery walls of travel photos are one way to display memories, but what about another kind of collage? Travel blogger Katie Treharne of Escape Artist Katie likes to have a small memento that won't take up precious bag space—so she sends her future self a postcard.

“I grab a cheap postcard from every destination I visit and write a message to myself with a small detail that I'm sure to forget upon my return,” Treharne says. “Then, I track down the nearest post office . 7 Beautiful and Creative Ways to Display Vacation Photos

I don’t know about you guys, but I love to show off my favorite family photos where I can see them every single day.  Because I tend to take some of my most favorite photos on vacations,  I am determined to make sure those awesome vacation photos do not languish away on my hard drive when they could be bringing a smile to my face each day!

I’ve found seven amazingly creative vacation photo displays that I cannot wait to share with you guys.  Each one is gorgeous, meaningful, and completely doable.

Vacation Souvenir Shadowbox

Do you have one or two vacation photos that are extra special to you?  Display them in a simple shadowbox along with some of the seashells, driftwood, or stones that you gathered on your trip.

When we’re not traveling, we’re dreaming of travel. One of the ways we love to dream about travel is to look through our travel pictures. This means, of course, that we have to get our travel pictures off our mobile devices, hard drives, phones, and camera sd cards and on to display them for all to see. What do you do with your travel photos, or how do you display your travel photos?

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to do with travel pictures? I’ve included some DIY and some done-for-you options, so if you don’t feel extra crafty, don’t sweat it! Learn how to display your travel photos with these traditional, fun, or innovative ideas.

Sources for Printing Your Travel Photos

If we’re going to talk about how to display your travel photos, we need to start with printing. We’ll cover some other ways without printing below, but for now, assume we need to get those digital photos off your phone or your camera.

Printing Services

Traditionally, one of the easier ways to get physical copies of your photos is by using printing services at places such as Walgreens or CVS Photo . I like that for most prints, you have a same-day option. So if we’re feeling super motivated, waiting on delivery won’t stop us!

Snapfish and Shutterfly have also been around for a long time and often have great deals. It’s worth comparing prices for prints across a few of these, and then pick one and stick with it. The last thing you want to do is try to remember who you uploaded your photos with. While these sites are usually popular to create photo books and photo albums, you can opt for full-size photos for displays.

Another good idea, and best if you want to print single photos on a whim, is to invest in a decent photo printer. I like working with Hp Printers because of their HP instant ink program . Enroll for a small monthly charge, based on how many pages you print, and always have ink on hand. It’s cheaper than buying ink. The HP Envy works well with Bluetooth and your phone. Reviews seem pretty great about printing photos as well.

The HP Sprocket Select Photo Printer is possibly the best thing I’ve seen to bring with you on the go. Full-color photos and Bluetooth allow you to print images on the go. It’s only 3.5 by 5 inches long, so it’s perfect to keep in your purse or camera bag. I like the idea of using this printer to use as thank you cards when you’re traveling as well.

Do you have old photos sitting in photo storage boxes? Or what about negatives or slides? An easy way to share those with your family members is to invest in a negative scanner.

The Kodak Slide n Scan is super easy to use and can scan 35mm, 126, 110 film negatives and slides to 22mp resolution digital images. It’s a great option to save old prints and family photos to digital storage, an external hard drive, flash drives, or even Google drive. From there, you can print your favorite family vacation memories.

If your photo collection isn’t in negative form, but you have lots of photos from days gone by, a photo scanner might be the best option. The Plustek Photo scanner scans photos in seconds. I like this over a traditional printer flatbed scanner as you can continue to feed photos into it. That way if you have a large amount of precious memories to save, you’re not constantly stopping to replace what is on the flatbed.

Have you seen Mixtiles yet? These are easy 8×8 “tiles” that you select from their app, and at $13 each, turn into wall art. You can do borderless, black or white frames. I think these will lend well with gallery wall ideas below.

Chatbooks is another one that has easy peel & stick gallery wall tiles. If you want slightly bigger than Mixtiles, Chatbooks wall tiles are 10×10.

Travel Pictures Gallery Wall Ideas

Now that you have your photos printed, how do you display them? Gallery walls are perhaps the most popular of the choices.

Below you can see some of the ideas for collages and gallery walls. Pinterest is a great source for gallery wall ideas if you need further inspiration.

Personally, I like the clean frame look to better show off your travel photos. I would recommend a simple white or black frame with a white mat. You can choose to mix up sizes or keep them all the same size. I do think this is where Mixtiles or Chatbooks appeal to me more. However, I have friends that do amazing gallery walls. in their homes, it’s just not as easy for me.

These are a couple that I love.

Canvas Prints

If you do or don’t do a gallery wall, canvas prints might be the way to do it. Snapfish has a host of canvas wall art options.

Pallet Sign Wood Photo

If you have a rustic look, go for this pallet sign to immortalize your favorite travel photo.

Personalized Photo Mug

You’ve seen those photo mugs where you can put pictures of your kids. They always look a little, well, basic, to me. However I did find this photo mug, that would be great in your kitchen or on the go. I like that it looks a little more artistic.

Personalized Travel Blanket

A photo blanket is another great way to show off your favorite travels. Imagine a cushy plush blanket draped over your sofa or one of your chairs in your living room, filled with stunning photos of your favorite trips. I don’t know about you, but this would definitely get me dreaming of my favorite places as I doze off under the blanket. And if it’s a vacation in Maine , this doubles as a cozy reminder of that trip.

One of the ways I love how to display your travel photos is to incorporate them with a map.

I’ve seen this done in a variety of ways. It can be with postcards or Polaroid-style images glued near a map.

Get a 50 States photo map collage . What I like about this particular one is that it has inner borders that help contain all the state cutouts and make it easier to cut and place your state photos. Plus, it even comes with a map maker tool that you can print the photos just as you need them!

I also like these individual state prints from Minted that include either an outline of the state or your photos within the whole state.

Wall Calendar

Do you have a wall calendar in your home? I know in the age of digital, we may not need a wall calendar, but I always like the at a glance option of looking month to month. Of course, you can fully personalize a calendar to include your travel photos or feature places you’ll travel that month.

Digital Frame

You could go for a digital frame to display your photos, but I want something as simple as possible. That’s why I would choose a Google Nest Hub or a Google Nest Hub Max . I use Google Photos to back up my photos on my phone (even though it’s an iPhone, more bang for the buck.) So it’s easy to get those photos to display on a Google Nest Hub. Plus you get all the smart home features with a Google Nest hub. Go for the Google Nest Hub Max to use to make video calls. Buy at Staples and get Free Shipping or Free Pick up.

Vision Board

Use your travel pictures for a vision board. If you have a favorite place you’ve traveled, again and again, put these photos in your vision board. Having a vision board inspires the whole family that we will travel again. Set aside some time this weekend to put your travel pictures in your travel vision board .

Paint Your Photos

If you’re feeling extra crafty you can take one of your favorite photos and attempt to recreate it in a watercolor form. Of course, again, someone on Etsy can do it for you .

Ceramic Tiles

Make a big statement with ceramic tiles. This one is 12″ x 12″ but they come in all sizes. Check them out at Image Snap .

Posting to social media is a great way for your friends and family to keep up to date with your adventures, and for you to document your amazing experiences and look back on them later. This is especially great if you want to share vacation pictures with friends.

2. Create a slideshow

3. Sell your photos

I have done this for so long and shared them with so many people, I started to offer them as products as I see people love them so much! Then, I’d listen to it when back so I can keep on dreaming.
• Learn the language of each destination you have been to. Now, this is for the people inclined to learn languages, I’ve heard there are some in this world. You can use a tool like Babbel for this and learn at least a few phrases in each language you have been exposed to. It’s an awesome way to be reminded of your trips!
• Publish a book with your stories and pictures . I know, I know, who reads books these days? I can assure you that some people still do, including myself. Even people that don’t buy physical books but only read eBooks still can get to read about your trips and adventures. You can write stories, describe your heritage journey with the help of MyHeritage , make a photo album, or write a children’s book. Let your imagination float and see what comes of it!
• Make a book with international food recipes you have collected. This is similar to the idea above, but hear me out. • Make a photo album . There are multiple ways to do this, from buying a cheap photo album from a store or even a few sets from Amazon , and you can have an album for each trip. If you feel fancy, you can even label them accordingly or combine this with some other ideas as well, like including tickets and other keepsakes.
• Make a coffee table book . If you’re more artistic kind, you can print a nice coffee table book with your pictures. If you’re also a bit business-inclined, you can even sell them to your friends or on marketplaces like Etsy. People pay a lot of money for these things and if you love doing them, why not?

Ask AphroChic: How Can I Tastefully Display My Travel Keepsakes at Home?

Welcome to Ask AphroChic , a series in which Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason answer your most pressing design questions. Today, the design duo share their best advice for tastefully displaying your travel souvenirs at home.

Whenever we travel, discovering new objects to bring home is always such an exciting part of the trip. We focus on searching for treasures, pieces that we know we’ll love for years to come: a handmade hammock from Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, a beautifully loomed rug from Paris, sculptures from Morocco, oil paintings from Chile—all authentic reminders of a special place and a special time.

To ensure we exercise some self-control, we follow a few rules. First, we keep just a certain amount of room in our bags for items to bring home. If it can’t fit, it can’t come home with us. Second, we bring home pieces that we know can be displayed somewhere in our home. If we don’t have space for it, it becomes junk, and no one wants that. Finally, we look for pieces that help us tell our story at home, souvenirs that have meaning to us as a couple and that, in turn, add meaning to the interior design of our home.

Once back home, it’s all about displaying our special finds, and over the years we’ve found that there are five easy ways to seamlessly integrate those vacation treasures:

Create a thematic wall display.

Walls are a wonderful place to show off a collection that you have amassed while traveling. Baskets that you found in a souk, vintage plates from an antiques shop, paintings from a local gallery, and framed photographs of your vacation can all be beautifully displayed on a wall at home. The secret is to stick with a theme, choosing a single type of object to display so that things don’t get visually cluttered. You can mix colors and patterns and continuously add to the collection, picking up a new piece every time you travel.

Treat your textiles like art.

Sourcing fabric can be an inexpensive way to bring a part of your trip home with you. Around the world, every culture has its own unique textiles. In Mexico, it’s hand-embroidered Otomi blankets. India is home to Kantha quilts, where scraps of fabric are combined to create bold patterns. In China you can discover the traditional textile art of the Hmong people. And Ghana is home to the most delicately crafted kente cloth. Whether a small scrap or a few feet, these handmade cultural artifacts can be beautifully displayed by having them framed . For an extra special touch, add a gallery sconce above the frame to highlight the details of the piece.

Give your tabletop a meaningful upgrade.

Setting the table with pieces that you discovered while traveling can turn the typical tabletop into something meaningful, one that allows you to share a part of your travel experience with friends and family in a truly unique way. Everything from artisan plates, bowls, platters, pitchers, and glassware can be featured at home upon your return. A set of Tamegroute ceramics from Morocco can be the star of your next brunch. Handblown Murano glassware from Italy can make your tabletop shine. Beautifully stitched napkins from Portugal can be brought out annually for holiday entertaining. (For those of you who are looking, two places we traveled where it took everything we had not to bring a whole suite of dishware home were Marrakesh and Bologna.)

Add to your bookshelf wealth.

Do you have a bookshelf you’re trying to add some life to? This is a great place to put your travel treasures on display. Mix sculptures and other artisan pieces you found among books on your shelf. And if you brought back books from your trip, put them on display too. Turn them, allowing the covers to show, and they become works of art themselves. To keep the look clean and sophisticated, remember that a little goes a long way. Just one or two pieces per shelf from your travels can be enough to add visual interest. And if you have different pieces from different places and are not sure if they work together, relate your collected pieces by color for a seamless look.

Give your coffee table some style.

Smaller pieces you discover while traveling can enliven a coffee-table display, adding color, texture, and an interesting story. Those coasters you spotted at a market during your Caribbean vacation can be used to add a pop of color to your coffee-table display. And jewelry boxes from a trip to Turkey can act as storage for cards, matches, and other items that need to be hidden away. And don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. A handmade oversized piece of jewelry picked up in Spain can make the perfect paperweight.

Polaris Dawn Astronauts Launch on Ambitious Private Mission

The mission is taking people farther from Earth than anyone has traveled since the end of NASA’s Apollo moon missions.

On Tuesday morning, Jared Isaacman, a billionaire entrepreneur, launched to space for a second time. The mission, known as Polaris Dawn , is a collaboration between Mr. Isaacman and SpaceX, the rocket company led by Elon Musk.

“Send us, SpaceX,” Mr. Isaacman said with just over 30 seconds left in the countdown.

At 5:23 a.m. Eastern time, a Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Less than 15 minutes later, the crew of four astronauts inside the Crew Dragon capsule — that will be their home for the next five days — were in orbit.

“We’re going to get to work now,” Mr. Isaacman said in an exchange with the launch controllers on the ground.

The Polaris Dawn mission will mark some milestones for private spaceflight — the first spacewalk conducted by nonprofessional astronauts, and the farthest journey from Earth by anyone since NASA’s moon landings more than 50 years ago.

Why was the flight delayed?

The launch was scheduled for Aug. 28, but was called off because of a helium leak. After that, unsettled weather around Florida has proved troublesome — not so much for the launch, but for the splashdown on the sixth day.

The Polaris Dawn mission carries limited amounts of air, food, and other supplies. “Unlike an I.S.S. mission, we don’t have the option to delay long on orbit, so we must ensure the forecast is as favorable as possible before we launch,” Mr. Isaacman explained on X , referring to the International Space Station.

On Tuesday, the weather outlook improved, and the Polaris Dawn astronauts boarded their spacecraft. However, they had to wait on the ground. Because of rain showers near the first launch opportunity, at 3:38 a.m., it was skipped. Then the skies cleared up enough for the launch.

Who is on board?

In addition to Mr. Isaacman, the crew consists of Scott Poteet, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and pilot who is a longtime friend of Mr. Isaacman’s; and two SpaceX employees, Anna Menon, a space operations engineer, and Sarah Gillis , an engineer who oversees astronaut training.

How high above Earth will Polaris Dawn travel?

The launch put the spacecraft and crew on an elliptical orbit that comes within 118 miles of the Earth’s surface and then swings out to an altitude of 745 miles. That is the farthest from Earth that anyone has traveled since the Apollo moon missions.

Several orbits later, a thruster firing will push the farthest point of the orbit even farther out, to 870 miles. That will be higher than the 853-mile altitude that the NASA astronauts Pete Conrad and Richard Gordon reached during the Gemini XI mission in 1966, the record for astronauts on a spaceflight that was not headed to the moon.

The elliptical orbits will provide new insights into the bombardment of radiation and micrometeroids farther out in space.

Another thruster firing will drop the Crew Dragon into a lower orbit for the rest of the mission.

What will happen during the spacewalk?

It is scheduled for Thursday, the third day of the mission, although a time has not yet been announced.

All four crew members will put on their spacesuits, and then all of the air will be let out of the capsule. The hatch will then be opened and the inside of the spacecraft will become part of the vacuum of outer space.

Only two people — Mr. Isaacman and Ms. Gillis — are to leave the capsule to do the walk. Mr. Poteet and Ms. Menon will remain in the capsule to manage the umbilical cords and monitor the readings to make sure everything is proceeding properly.

The main goal of the spacewalk is to test the spacesuits, which SpaceX developed for this flight. The spacesuits are an evolution of those worn on earlier SpaceX missions, adding capabilities like protection against micrometeroids and temperature controls for the astronauts.

After Mr. Isaacman and Ms. Gillis return inside and close the hatch, the inside of the capsule will be repressurized.

What else will they be doing in orbit?

Before and after the spacewalk, the crew will conduct about 40 experiments, including obtaining magnetic resonance images of the astronauts’ brains and attempting to take X-ray images without an X-ray machine by using the natural showers of radiation that stream through outer space.

The mission is also raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

How is this different from Mr. Isaacman’s first space trip?

In 2021, Mr. Isaacman led and financed a mission that he named Inspiration4 . It was the first trip to orbit without a professional astronaut aboard. Instead of bringing friends, Mr. Isaacman provided seats to a former cancer patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , who now works there as a physician assistant, and to two space enthusiasts who won contests .

The Inspiration4 mission went into low-Earth orbit for three days and then splashed down off Florida.

Mr. Isaacman described Polaris Dawn as a “joint effort” with SpaceX, seeking to develop new technologies that could be used for Mr. Musk’s dream of sending people to Mars someday. He declined to say how much he or SpaceX was investing.
