About the role & team:.

As a Sales Business Development Manager (SBDM) for Travel Agency Sales with Disney, you will be responsible for key accounts in an assigned territory. The SBDM is responsible for crafting and implementing multifaceted sales and marketing plans that drive portfolio revenue growth. The SBDM will actively handle a set of Authorized Disney Vacation Planners, in addition to, rising star and growth accounts. The SBDM will focus on all 6 domestic Disney Destinations products. This is a Full-Time position.

As a Sales Business Development Manager, you will report to the Regional Sales Director, Travel Agency Sales.

What You Will Do:

Drive Annual Business Results

Conduct sales calls to agencies within given territory assignment to maintain and grow relationships with clients who currently sell the portfolio of Disney products

Build and implement strategic sales & marketing plans to hit annual operating plan targets

Identify and develop new sales growth initiatives that are measurable and actionable. Be able to develop a case and solve sophisticated business issues.

Provide product knowledge to clients through product and technology trainings for the portfolio of Disney products

Handle program budget and be accountable for timely forecasting, tracking and reporting

Improve all product and promotional opportunities through client tactics and communication

Conduct regional training or assist in the training of agents at events including Agent Education Programs, Familiarization trips (FAMs) ship tours, etc

Required Qualifications & Skills:

At least five years of shown Travel Industry experience, specifically in a sales business development role

At least three years of Disney experience/processes

Consistent record of relationship building with C-Suite level contacts as well as front line and operational leadership as well as shown success with internal contacts

Confirmed history of product training facilitation for both small and large groups (75+)

Proficiency in negotiating and implementing annual marketing plans, co-operative investments and growth incentives

Validated experience in driving revenue for key brand priorities/multiple brands

Strong understanding of field level/remote selling

Deep knowledge of the Disney brand and portfolio of products

Strong planning and analytical skills to enhance business results

Broad understanding of marketing principles and ability to build strategic plans, creative problem solving skills

Broad understanding of travel industry and key trends in the territory and marketplace

Build, implement and measure unique marketing programs, social media tactics, consumer events and training initiatives

Excellent relationship skills and the ability to be a credible business partners, both internal and external

Proven track record to manage and secure confidential information

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous field sales experience in travel or entertainment industry

History of proven over achievement in roles/responsibilities

Working knowledge of all Disney Travel products (Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Adventures by Disney, Aulani, and Disney Cruise Line and National Geographic)

Knowledge of computer software, such as Tableau, SharePoint, and SHIELD

Existing relationships with travel agencies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey territory

Preferred Education:

Certificate/Licenses: CTA or CTC desired

The Postal Service’s new delivery vehicles aren’t going to win a beauty contest.

They’re tall and ungainly. The windshields are vast. Their hoods resemble a duck bill. Their bumpers are enormous.

“You can tell that (the designers) didn’t have appearance in mind,” postal worker Avis Stonum said.

Odd appearance aside, the first handful of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles that rolled onto postal routes in August in Athens are getting rave reviews from letter carriers accustomed to cantankerous older vehicles that lack modern safety features and are prone to breaking down — and even catching fire.

Within a few years of the initial rollout, the fleet will have expanded to 60,000, most of them electric models, serving as the Postal Service’s primary delivery truck from Maine to Hawaii.

Once fully deployed, they’ll represent one of the most visible signs of the agency’s 10-year, $40 billion transformation led by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who’s also renovating aging facilities, overhauling the processing and transportation network, and instituting other changes.

The current postal vehicles — the Grumman Long Life Vehicle, dating to 1987 — have made good on their name, outlasting their projected 25-year lifespan. But they’re well overdue for replacement.

Noisy and fuel-inefficient (9 mpg), the Grummans are costly to maintain.

They’re scalding hot in the summer, with only an old-school electric fan to circulate air.

The current postal vehicles — the Grumman Long Life Vehicle, dating to 1987 — have made good on their name, outlasting their projected 25-year lifespan. But they’re well overdue for replacement.

They’re have mirrors mounted on them that when perfectly aligned allow the driver to see around the vehicle, but the mirrors constantly get knocked out of alignment. Alarmingly, nearly 100 of the vehicles caught fire last year, imperiling carriers and mail alike.

The new trucks are being built with comfort, safety and utility in mind, by Oshkosh Defense in South Carolina.

Even tall postal carriers can stand up without bonking their heads and walk from front to back to retrieve packages.

For safety, they have airbags, 360-degree cameras, blind-spot monitoring, collision sensors and anti-lock brakes — all of which are missing on the Grummans.

The new trucks are being built with comfort, safety and utility in mind, by Oshkosh Defense in South Carolina.

The new trucks also have a feature that became common in most cars more than six decades ago — air conditioning.

And that’s key for drivers in the Deep South, the desert Southwest and other areas with scorching summers.

“I promise you, it felt like heaven blowing in my face,” Stonum said of her first experience working in an air-conditioned truck.

Richard Burton, another driver, said he appreciates the larger payload area, which can accommodate bigger packages, and the fact that he can stand up and doesn’t have to crouch, helping him avoid back pain. The old trucks also had a habit of breaking down in traffic, he added.

Brian Renfroe, president of the National Letter Carriers Association, said union members are enthusiastic about the new vehicles, just as they were when the Grummans marked a leap forward from the previous vehicles, old-school Jeeps.

He credited DeJoy with bringing a sense of urgency to get them into production.

“We’re excited now to be at the point where they’re starting to hit the streets,” Renfroe said.

The process got off to a rocky start.

Environmentalists were outraged when DeJoy announced that 90% of the next-gen vehicles in the first order would be gas-powered.

Lawsuits were filed demanding that the Postal Service further electrify its fleet of more than 200,000 vehicles to reduce tailpipe emissions.

The new trucks also have a feature that became common in most cars more than six decades ago — air conditioning.

“Everybody went nuts,” DeJoy said.

The problem, Dejoy said, wasn’t that he didn’t want electric vehicles. Rather, the expense of the vehicles, compounded by the costs of installing thousands of charging stations and upgrading electrical service, made them unaffordable at a time when the agency was reporting big operating deficits every quarter.

He found a way to further boost the number of electric vehicles when he met with President Joe Biden’s top environmental adviser, John Podesta.

That led to a deal in which the government provided $3 billion to the Postal Service, with part of it earmarked for electric charging stations.

In December 2022, DeJoy announced that the Postal Service was buying 106,000 vehicles through 2028. That included 60,000 next-gen vehicles, 45,000 of them electric models, along with 21,000 other electric vehicles. He pledged to go all-electric for new purchases starting in 2026.

“With the climate crisis at our doorsteps, electrifying the US government’s largest fleet will deliver the progress we’ve been waiting for,” said Katherine García of the Sierra Club, which sued the Postal Service before its decision to boost the volume of electric vehicle purchases.

Between the electric vehicles, reduced tailpipe emissions from optimized mail routes and other changes, the agency anticipates cutting carbon emissions by 40% by 2030, DeJoy said. The route revisions will also save money.

This summer the Postal Service’s environmental battles came full circle as the White House honored it with a Presidential Federal Sustainability Award, marking the end of “an interesting journey,” DeJoy said.

The honor is a signal of the agency’s ability to work through complex problems, be they operational, financial, technical, political or of a public policy nature, he said.

“It comes from forging forward,” he said. “Keep moving.”

With a potential pilot strike looming, Air Canada is preparing to suspend its operations in a shutdown that could impact tens of thousands of passengers.

Canada's largest airline and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents more than 5,000 Air Canada pilots, are negotiating over the union's wage demands. Air Canada pilots are seeking compensation in line with what their U.S. counterparts make.

"What the airline can do is to diminish the impact on the travellers and that's what Air Canada is trying to do now," said Frederic Dimanche, a professor at Toronto Metropolitan University and the director of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Air Canada strike could leave passengers scrambling

He said that giving travellers an opportunity to reschedule their flight or offering them credits — as Air Canada is doing — is "the very minimum" the airline can do.

"I think it's important for people to be aware that a strike is potentially coming and that they need to make some arrangements."

Here's how a potential strike could impact your travel plans, and what you can do about it.

What to know about a potential strike

A strike or lockout can't take place before the 21-day cooling period that began on Aug. 27, after the pilot union voted overwhelmingly in favour of authorizing a strike.

While Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights would be impacted by a potential strike, Air Canada Express (which includes the Jazz and PAL carriers), are not involved in the negotiations. Their flights will continue to operate normally.

A spokesperson for Air Canada also confirmed to CBC News that flights operated by one of its airline partners (e.g. Lufthansa) wouldn't be impacted by a disruption.

Sunday, Sept. 15: Air Canada could start suspending its operations.

Sept. 15-18: If an agreement isn't reached, the airline or the union will likely issue a 72-hour strike notice or lockout notice, triggering a three-day wind down plan.

Air Canada could begin suspending flights next weekend as strike deadline nears

Both Air Canada and its low-cost subsidiary Air Canada Rouge will prepare to suspend flights over the course of three days, starting on Sunday.

If a traveller's flight is cancelled once a strike or lockout notice is issued, Air Canada will notify the passenger, who will be eligible for a full refund. But they won't be entitled to any additional compensation under the Airline Passenger Protection Regulations.

Wednesday, Sept. 18: Following the three-day wind down, a total shutdown of Air Canada's operations would start at 12:01 a.m. on this day.

After Sept. 18: Once a complete shutdown has occurred, Air Canada anticipates it will take seven to 10 days for normal operations to resume.

Making changes to your booking

Customers who booked a ticket or redeemed points for an Aeroplan flight reward on Sept. 9 or earlier — for travel scheduled between Sept. 15 and 23 — can make changes to their bookings now for free, according to Air Canada's goodwill policy.

You can rebook your flight with an Air Canada carrier (including Rouge and Express) to another date between Sept. 9 and 14, and/or between Sept. 24 and Nov. 30, 2024.

If you booked your travel through a third-party service, the airline is advising passengers to contact the travel agent or company directly.

Possible Air Canada pilot strike will disproportionately affect travellers, former COO says

If you cancel your flight.

Customers who choose to cancel their flights will get a full refund if they purchased a refundable fare. A cancellation fee could apply depending on the type of ticket purchased.

If you bought your ticket using Aeroplan points, you can cancel and have your points redeposited into your account.

If you bought a non-refundable ticket, you can get a one-time credit for future travel the next time you book with Air Canada, but there is an expiry date attached to the credit and it's non-transferable.

If Air Canada cancels your flight

The airline will notify you if your flight gets cancelled, and you'll be eligible for a full refund regardless of the fare you purchased. No cancellation fees will apply.

The airline will also try to rebook you on a different flight, though it cautions that space is limited.

The Air Canada website notes: "If you are contacted by someone claiming to represent Air Canada offering to change your booking, please be aware we will never ask for your booking reference or locator number, as we already have that information."
