Travel Guard travel insurance coverage has a lot of variety. Depending on which plan you pick — Essential, Preferred, Deluxe or Pack N' Go — you’ll have trip protections and some medical coverage.

Generally speaking, here is what to expect when purchasing a Travel Guard policy:

Trip interruption and trip cancellation : These coverages can reimburse you for nonrefundable expenses that you’ve already paid in the event that your trip is canceled or interrupted. Trip cancellation protection is not included in the Pack N' Go plan.

Travel Guard health insurance coverage : This health insurance coverage can pay for costs associated with emergency medical services during your trip.  

Trip delay : Trip delay can cover expenses such as food and accommodation in the event your travel is delayed.

Emergency evacuation : If you need medical care at another facility and need to be evacuated, emergency evacuation can cover the costs.

Travel Guard offers plenty of options when it comes to customizability, which is great for those who need additional coverage. For example, most insurance policies automatically exclude adventure sports. The same is true for Travel Guard, unless you add on the adventure sports bundle.

You’ll want to be aware that all three of Travel Guard’s comprehensive plans will cover pre-existing conditions. However, the Pack N’ Go plan does not.

Here’s what else isn’t covered:

Coverage for trips paid for with frequent flier miles or loyalty rewards programs : Travel Guard will only protect the trips you pay for with cash. If you’re redeeming your points for that bucket list trip, you unfortunately won’t qualify for coverage.

Baggage loss for eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids or false teeth: These items should be kept with you in your carry-on as a general rule, so they won’t be covered by a Travel Guard policy.

Known events : If you knowingly book a trip with some inherent risks, it won’t be covered. For example, once the National Weather Service issues a warning for a hurricane, it becomes a known event.

Beyond this, most travel insurance plans have specific exclusions to their coverage, including:

Activities when you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Extreme sports.

Named storms. 

Participation in athletic events. 

A sample trip for a 36-year-old traveler from Indiana to Canada for 5 days showed that the cheapest Travel Guard plan cost $135. If you were to spring for the premium plan, which increases your coverage limits, expect to pay $236.

When looking across multiple providers, the same sample trip ranges in cost from $10-$202. Note that price isn't the only differentiating factor. Coverage is not identical across plans; each company offers various levels of scope, limits and exclusions.

Travel insurance , in general, is designed to protect you from financial loss due to unforeseen events that may cause you to cancel your trip, or to cover disruptions that could occur during your journey. It is not meant to cover voluntary trip cancellations due to fear of getting ill.

Voluntary cancellations, including those that are related to the fear of getting ill, are not covered on travel insurance policies. However, there is 1 option for obtaining coverage for voluntarily canceling your trip.

Cancel for Any Reason insurance (CFAR) is an optional coverage that can be added to select travel insurance policies allowing you to cancel your trip for any reason you deem necessary and be covered for partial reimbursement.

AIG CFAR

AIG Travel Guard offers CFAR coverage as an optional add-on to add to its Preferred and Deluxe plans , with these stipulations:

  • Must be purchased within 15 days of the initial trip deposit
  • The trip must be canceled more than 48 hours prior to departure
  • The full cost of the trip must be insured for at the time of purchase

Cancel for Any Reason insurance does not cover the entire cost of the trip. In this case, to add CFAR insurance to the Deluxe and Preferred plans above, the additional premium would be $53.31 for coverage to cover up to 50% of the trip price. Additional options may be available to cover up to 75% of the cost of your trip.

The above prices are for a single trip 1-week in length for a traveler of 40 years of age at a cost of $3,000.

AIG Travel Guard policies, even without the CFAR insurance add-on, offer coverage for trip cancellations due to COVID-19 related illness and also medical coverage should a covered traveler become sick with COVID-19 during their travels. Terms and conditions apply.

Bottom Line: While trip cancellation, trip interruption, and emergency medical may offer some coverage for illness, you must purchase Cancel for Any Reason insurance to have coverage for canceling a trip due to the fear of getting ill. AIG Travel Guard offers this coverage on its Deluxe and Preferred plans.

  • The trip consists of only a round trip domestic flight and hotel stay
  • The trip is a road trip by car

There’s also a number of add-ons for certain plans if you’re a business traveller, taking a golf or ski vacation, or flying to a destination wedding. And if you’re worried about having to cancel, the Cancel For Any Reason upgrade gives peace of mind. But there are downsides. The mail-in claims process is clunky, and the upgrades aren’t available for all plans. Plus Travel Guard travel insurance isn’t currently offered in Quebec. Still, Travel Guard offers comprehensive coverage for a competitive price.

Platinum All Inclusive Package: This is the most comprehensive plan offered by Travel Guard with unlimited emergency medical insurance for travellers under age 59, and $10 million in coverage for travellers 60 and up. It includes coverage for unforeseen medical emergencies, trip cancellation and interruption, flight and travel accident coverage, and baggage loss, damage and delay insurance.

Eligible emergency medical expenses include:

  • Care received from a physician in or out of hospital
  • A hospital room
  • Rental or purchase of a hospital bed
  • Medical appliances including a wheelchair, brace or crutches
  • Diagnostic tests

Gold Emergency Medical Plan: If you’re only worried about medical emergencies while travelling, this benefit offers all of the medical coverage listed above. The Gold Emergency Medical Plan offers unlimited medical coverage for travellers aged 54 and under, and $10 million in coverage for travellers 55 and older.

Silver Deluxe Trip Cancellation & Interruption Package: This coverage option reimburses you for insured non-refundable travel expenses (such as hotels or prepaid excursions) if you have to cancel, interrupt, or delay your trip due to a covered reason. Yes. Travel Guard offers Cancel For Any Reason coverage as an optional add-on with the Platinum All Inclusive Package. If you are prevented from taking your trip for any reason not otherwise covered by the trip plan, Travel Guard will reimburse you for up to 75% of your prepaid, forfeited and non-refundable payments or deposits.

This add-on must be purchased at the same time the base plan is purchased, and within 15 days of the initial trip payment. Any additional payments must also be insured under this coverage within 15 days. To be eligible for coverage, you need to cancel your trip 48 hours or more prior to your departure date.

In general, a pre-existing condition is defined as any sickness, injury or medical condition that existed before the start of your coverage, whether or not diagnosed by a physician, that you showed signs or symptoms of or received medical attention for.

With a Travel Guard travel insurance plan, any pre-existing conditions must be stable and controlled for 90 days before the start of your policy to be eligible for coverage. In additional, Travel Guard will not cover any losses if you:

  • Have been required to use, take or been prescribed nitroglycerin in any form more than once during a seven-day period for a heart condition
  • Require the use of home oxygen or had to take oral steroids, such as prednisone or prednisolone, for a lung condition

According to Travel Guard, a medical condition is considered stable and controlled when there has been:

  • No new treatment, new medical management or newly-prescribed medication
  • No change in treatment, change in medical management, or newly prescribed medication
  • No new, more frequent or more severe symptom or finding
  • No test results showing deterioration
  • No investigations or future investigations initiated or recommended for symptoms whether or not your diagnosis has been determined
  • No hospitalization or referral to a specialist (made or recommended)

Travel Guard offers a Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver whereby the company will waive any pre-existing medical condition exclusions if:

  • The policy is purchased within 15 days of making the initial trip payment
  • Any additional payments or deposits are insured within 15 days of purchase
  • You (the insured) are medically able to travel when you pay your premium

In addition to pre-existing condition exclusions, there are a number of scenarios not covered by travel insurance and it’s critical to know what not to do before you make a claim. The following are general exclusions to coverages provided by Travel Guard travel insurance:

  • Expenses from any sickness or injury present before you bought your policy that you would expect to need medical treatment or hospitalization during your trip
  • Expenses incurred once the medical emergency ends
  • Non-emergency or prescription medication, including vaccinations, medication for the maintenance of a medical condition, vitamins, physical exams or routine tests
  • Organ or bone marrow transplants, or surgery for artificial joints or prosthetic devices or implants
  • Expenses for acupuncture or holistic treatment
  • Ionizing radiation or radioactive contamination
  • Eligible expenses that were not pre-approved
  • Any medical condition if if was determined you could return home but you chose not to travel
  • Expenses for any services prohibited by your provincial or territorial health insurance plan
  • Routine prenatal care, a child born during your trip, childbirth or associated complications, pregnancy or associated complications after 26 weeks or any time after the expected date of delivery
  • Your mental or emotional disorders
  • Suicide or attempted suicide or intentional self-inflicted injury
  • Any alcohol-related sickness, injury or death, or the abuse of medication, drugs, alcohol or other toxic substance
  • A trip taken against your physician’s orders not to travel
  • Your commission of, or attempt to commit, a crime
  • Your participation in rock or mountain climbing, hang-gliding, parachuting, bungee jumping, skydiving, ski jumping, ski flying, heli-skiing, ski acrobatics, ski stunting, freestyle skiing, ski racing, ski bob racing, on-piste and off-piste skiing in areas designated as unsafe
  • Your participation as a professional athlete in a sporting event
  • Your participation in a motorized race or motorized speed contest
  • Operating or learning to operate any aircraft, performing employment duties on any aircraft or ship, performing duties in any regular armed force services
  • Travel to any country where there is an active travel advisory not to travel before your departure date
  • War, acts of foreign enemies or rebellion
  • Expenses relating to travel in, to or through Cuba, Iran, Syria, Sudan, North Korea or the Crimea region

There may be additional exclusions specifically for medical, trip cancellation/interruption/delay and baggage coverage.

To be eligible for Travel Guard Travel Insurance you must:

  • Be a Canadian resident
  • Have purchased your policy prior to your departure date
  • Have purchased your policy less than 18 months prior to your departure date
  • Have purchased your policy for the full duration of your trip
  • Have purchased your policy for the full value of your non-refundable, prepaid travel arrangements
  • Be insured under your provincial or territorial insurance plan (or your emergency medical benefits will max out at $10,000)
  • Be less than 75 years old
  • Be travelling for less than 183 days if you are less than 60 years old
  • Be travelling for less than 60 days if you are between 60 and 75 years old

In addition, the following makes you ineligible for Travel Guard Travel Insurance:

  • A licensed physician has diagnosed you with a terminal condition.
  • You have undergone a bone marrow transplant or an organ transplant (except for a corneal transplant) that requires the use of anti-rejection/immune suppression drugs.
  • You require dialysis of any type for kidney disease.
  • If you are under the age of 75 and in the last 12 months you have been prescribed or utilized home oxygen therapy at any time.

You can file a claim by contacting Travel Guard by telephone at the numbers listed on the website depending on the province or territory you are calling from.

The insurer will provide the forms for your claim within 15 days of you initiating the claim. However, if you haven’t received the required forms during that time, you can submit your proof of claim in the form of a written statement outlining the cause or nature of the accident, sickness or disability that caused the claim.

If you are making an emergency medical claim, you must provide original receipts for incurred expenses, including those for subsistence allowance expenses.

For a trip cancellation/trip interruption/trip delay claim, you may be asked to provide:

  • Proof of all non-refundable, prepaid deposits or payments
  • Completed documentation if a medical condition was the cause of the cancellation
  • Complete unused transportation tickets and vouchers
  • Original receipts for subsistence allowance expenses
  • Original receipts for new tickets
  • Reports from police or local authorities documenting the missed connection or travel delay
  • Invoices and original receipts from travel service providers

If you are making a baggage insurance and personal effects claim, you may need to provide:

  • A letter of coverage or denial from the transportation carrier
  • A written report regarding the loss or damage
  • Original receipts or sales slips for all lost and stolen items over $149.99 per item claimed and proof that you owned the articles
  • Original receipts and sales slips for all items claimed under baggage and personal effects coverage

If you are making a Rental Car Collision Damage Protection Benefit claim, you may be asked to provide:

  • Your car rental invoice
  • Your rental agreement with the record of the damages that existed when you picked up the car
  • The police report and rental car agency report including estimate of repair costs

You must file your claim with us within 30 days of the loss or damage in the case of a claim under Rental Car Protector Coverage.

Does travel guard travel insurance pay for medical costs upfront.

According to the company, benefits for emergency medical expenses, emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains services may be payable directly to the provider of the services, however the provider, “must comply with the statutory provision for direct payment and may not have been paid from any other sources.” The insurer adds it will “make every effort, though we cannot guarantee, to pay providers directly.”

Does Travel Guard Travel Insurance offer coverage extensions?

Yes. Your coverage is automatically extended for up to 72 hours if your return home is delayed due to a transportation issue. If you or your travelling companion are hospitalized, your coverage is extended for the period of hospitalization, plus up to 120 hours after discharge. If you or your travelling companion are too sick to travel on your return date but do not require hospitalization, your coverage is automatically extended for up to 120 hours after your planned return date.

If you want to stay longer on your trip, you can extend your coverage if you apply and pay the premium before your original return date as long as you have not made a claim and there is no reason to make a claim.

Does Travel Guard Travel Insurance require a medical questionnaire?

Yes. Travellers over age 55 are required to complete a medical questionnaire to determine your eligibility and rate category.

Does Travel Guard Travel Insurance have any age restrictions?

Yes. You must be a minimum of 15 days old and no more than 85 years old.

When does my coverage with Travel Guard Travel Insurance begin?

In general, if you purchase cancellation coverage, it begins the day you buy your policy and ends the day you make a claim or leave on your trip. Your medical and interruption coverage, if purchased, begins when you leave home. Your delay coverage begins once an insured risk prevents you from returning home as scheduled.

Does Travel Guard Travel Insurance offer a free look period?

Yes. Travel Guard offers a 10-day Right to Examine period during which you can review your policy and cancel if you’re not satisfied with it.

Can I get a refund with Travel Guard Travel Insurance?

You can request a refund for the all-inclusive plan up to the departure date as long as you have not made a claim against the policy. A refund will also be issued if your travel supplier cancels or changes your trip and all your insured trips costs are refunded without penalty.

With an emergency medical plan, you can request a refund if you have a minimum of four unused days of coverage.

It offers three main coverage options to choose from, and in general its policies have above-average coverage for baggage loss and baggage delays, plus high medical evaluation coverage limits. AIG Travel Guard is among the best travel insurance companies with impressive coverage limits, even with its basic plan, Travel Guard Essential. It's emergency medical evacuation coverage is particularly high, making Travel Guard a good choice for insuring cruises, as sea to land evacuations are often expensive. 

Additionally, Travel Guard's Premium and Deluxe plans offer coverage that many of its competitors don't, such as its travel inconvenience coverage and ancillary evacuation coverage.  

That said, Travel Guard is on the pricey side, compared with its competitors. While age is often a factor in your insurance premiums, Travel Guard tends to quote older travelers higher rates than its competitors. However, you often get what you pay for. In Travel Guard's case, you'll find that its coverage justifies its higher rates. 

While great coverage is important, it's also crucial that an insurance company has a smooth claims process, which Travel Guard lacks, according to its customer reviews. Across 135 reviews on its Trustpilot page, AIG Travel Guard received an average of 1.2 stars, with 95% of reviewers giving the company one star. Surprisingly, AIG Travel Guard fares even worse with the Better Business Bureau, receiving an average of 1.08 stars out of five across 301 reviews. 

Coverage Options Offered by AIG Travel Guard

AIG Travel Guard offers three primary plans: Travel Guard Essential, Travel Guard Preferred, and Travel Guard Deluxe. Each plan has different coverage limits and various types of protection.

Here's a look at what you'll get with each plan:

Depending on the policy you select, additional coverages may be included at no extra charge, such as a pre-existing conditions waiver , single occupancy fee coverage, worldwide travel and medical assistance services, and more. Be sure to check each policy closely to see what is and isn't covered.

Each of these plans also includes coverage for one child under 17 as long as their travel costs are equal to or under the adult's cost. Additional coverage does not apply to the child.

AIG Travel Guard Pack N' Go Plan

In addition to these three primary plans, Travel Guard offers the Pack N' Go policy along with an Annual plan. This policy is for last-minute travelers who don't need trip cancellation coverage.

This plan includes:

  • Trip interruption and trip delay ($200 per day maximum) up to $1,000
  • Missed connection up to $500
  • Baggage delay up to $200 and baggage coverage up to $1,000
  • Medical expenses up to $25,000 and dental expenses up to $500
  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation of remains up to $500,000.

AIG Travel Guard Annual Plan

Taking multiple trips throughout the year? Consider the Travel Guard Annual plan instead of purchasing a new policy for each adventure. This plan comes with coverage for: 

  • Trip interruption coverage  up to $2,500
  • Trip delay coverag e up to $1,500 ($150 per day maximum)
  • Missed connection coverag e up to $500
  • Baggage delay coverage up to $1,000 and lost/damaged baggage coverage up to $2,500
  • Medical expenses coverage up to $50,000 and dental expenses up to $500
  • Emergency evacuation coverage and repatriation of remains up to $500,000
  • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage up to $50,000 and security evacuation up to $100,000

Additional Coverage Options from AIG Travel Guard

Like many other travel insurance providers, Travel Guard offers add-ons for an additional cost. These can be selected while you're purchasing your policy.

The availability of these add-ons depends on the policy you're buying. Note also that some are already included in the Preferred and Deluxe plans. 

  • Medical bundle — Increases coverage amounts for medical expenses and evacuation and adds hospital of choice and additional evacuation benefits.  
  • Security bundle — Provides various coverages for trip interruption or cancellation due to riot or civil disorder.  
  • Rental vehicle damage coverage — Reimburses a predetermined amount for physical damage to a rental car in the policyholder's name. 
  • Cancel for Any Reason Insurance (CFAR) — This is just what it sounds like. Cancel for any reason coverage will reimburse 75% of nonrefundable expenses when you cancel your trip for any reason, up to 48 hours before your scheduled departure. CFAR coverage is only available for Travel Guard's Deluxe and Preferred plans. 
  • Inconvenience bundle — Offers reimbursement for inconveniences like closed attractions, credit/debit card cancellation, hotel construction, and more.
  • Pet bundle coverage — Daily travel benefit for boarding and medical expense coverage for illness or injury of dog or cat. Includes trip cancellation or interruption coverage if the pet is in critical condition or dies within seven days before the departure date.
  • Adventure sports bundle — Removes the exclusions for adventure and extreme activities.
  • Baggage bundle — Your baggage coverage with AIG becomes primary with increased coverage and baggage delay benefits. 
  • Wedding bundle — Provides trip cancellation coverage due to wedding cancellation (brides and grooms not covered).
  • Name a family member bundle — One person can be named as a Family Member for the purpose of family member-related unforeseen event coverage.

How to Purchase and Manage Your AIG Policy

Getting a quote from AIG Travel Guard is quick and easy. Head to the AIG website and enter basic information about the trip you're looking to cover. You'll get an instant quote for the insurance plans available for your trip, so it's easy to compare each option. Be prepared to provide information including:

  • Your state of residence
  • Date of birth
  • The cost of your trip
  • Travel dates
  • Destination
  • Method of travel

We ran a few simulations to offer examples of how much a Travel Guard policy might cost. You'll see that costs usually fall within 5-7% of the total trip cost, depending on the policy tier you choose.

As of April 2024, a 23-year-old from Illinois taking a weeklong, $3,000 budget trip to Italy would have the following  Travel Guard travel insurance quotes:

  • Travel Guard Essential: $86.96
  • Travel Guard Preferred: $152.01

Premiums for Travel Guard's various single trip plans are between 2.8% and 6.3%, well within, and even below, the average cost of travel insurance .

A 30-year-old traveler from California is heading to Japan for two weeks, costing $4,000. The Travel Guard travel insurance quotes are:

Premiums for Travel Guard's various single trip plans range between 7.9% and 13.9%, which is significantly higher than the average cost. That said, travel insurance is often more expensive as you get older. 

AIG Travel Guard Annual Plan Cost

Getting a quote for the annual plan requires much less information, only asking for the intended policy start date, your state of residence, and how many people you plan to insure. Quotes from AIG remained at $259 per traveler, regardless of state of residence and number of travelers.

Filing a claim with Travel Guard is a straightforward process. You'll need your policy number and can either go to travelguard.com or call Travel Guard at 866-478-8222 to start the claim. Once submitted, you can check the status of your claim at claims.travelguard.com/status.

AIG Travel Guard vs. Nationwide Travel Insurance

Nationwide is a household name when it comes to insurance providers and one of the largest and most recognized insurance providers in the US. Similarly to Travel Guard , Nationwide makes it easy to find coverage by offering just two single-trip plans: the Essential and Prime plan.  

In addition, Nationwide offers plans specifically designed for cruises along with annual trip insurance for those who travel a lot throughout the year.  

The Nationwide Essential Plan comes with trip cancellation coverage of up to $10,000, up to $250,000 in emergency medical evacuation, up to $150 per day reimbursement for travel delays of 6+ hours, and coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

In comparison, the Travel Guard Essential plan covers trip cancellations with up to $100,0000 in coverage, up to $150,000 in emergency medical evacuation expenses, up to $100 per day ($500 total) for trip delays of 12+ hours, along with lost or delayed baggage coverage. 

The high-tier Prime Plan from Nationwide offers even more coverage, including trip cancellation up to $30,000, trip interruption coverage up to 200% of the trip cost (maximum of $60,000), missed connection and itinerary change coverage of $500 each, $250 per day for trip delays of 6+ hours, and up to $1 million in coverage for emergency medical evacuation

AIG's highest-tier Deluxe plan comes with trip cancellation coverage of up to $150,000, up to $1,000,000 in emergency medical evacuation, up to $200 per day ($1,000 maximum) reimbursement for travel delays of 12+ hours, and coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

As you can see, it's hard to compare apples to apples when comparing the two different insurance providers. But it helps to know the specifics of the coverages that matter most to you.

AIG Travel Guard vs. Allianz Travel Insurance

With Allianz Travel Insurance , you can choose from 10 different insurance plans to find one that suits your needs. Like Travel Guard , it offers one-off policies for specific trips and an annual travel insurance plan for those who take multiple trips a year. Similar to AIG, too, the different plans offer varying levels of coverage. 

Allianz's most popular single-trip option is the OneTrip Prime plan. This plan offers trip cancellation coverage up to $100,000, trip interruption coverage up to $150,000, emergency medical coverage for $50,000, coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage up to $1,000, and up to $800 in travel delay coverage.

The most similar plan from Travel Guard is the mid-tier Travel Guard Preferred plan, which which you'll get up to $150,000 in trip cancellation coverage, trip interruption coverage up to $225,000, $50,000 in emergency medical coverage, coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage up to $1,000, and travel delay coverage of up to $800.

A variety of factors will determine the final cost of any of these travel insurance policies. However, when comparing quotes with the same factors, Allianz tends to be cheaper. Additionally, Travel Guard seems to be more sensitive to the traveler's age. However, it's best to compare quotes using your specific personal and trip details to determine which policy is the best for you.

AIG Travel Guard vs. Credit Card Travel Insurance

Before purchasing a travel insurance plan, take a look at the coverage offered through your travel rewards credit cards. Some of the basic coverages you're looking for, like rental car insurance, may already be available through credit card travel protection . 

The coverage you have on your credit card couple be sufficient if, for example, you're taking a road trip by car and you don't have any non-refundable trip expenses. It could also be enough if your health insurance covers you while you travel and you aren't overly worried about incurring additional medical expenses during your trip.

It's also worth remembering that credit card coverage is usually secondary versus the primary coverage you'd get with a travel insurance policy. Meaning you'll have to file a claim with the other applicable insurance (like through the airline travel provider) before filing a claim with your credit card company.

Travel Guard is one of the most widely-used, travel agent-recommended insurance companies in the industry. Millions of leisure and business travelers alike use this company for emergency travel services, medical assistance, and other travel-related problems.

Policy names and inclusions have changed

If you've used Travel Guard before, things may be different now from what you remember. No longer named as Platinum, Gold, or Silver plans, the travel insurance policies here are now called Deluxe, Preferred and Essential - with slightly different coverages and new add-ons for adventure sports, destination weddings, and more.

No surprises in the quote process

Let's take a look at how those plans were offered for our sample traveler profile: a one-week trip to Mexico about six months in the future, with two 35-year-olds spending a total of $3,000. We had to start by entering our destination (though we liked that Travel Guard had quick buttons for the US, Mexico, and Caribbean as top locations), then indicating if we were taking an airplane, cruise, or neither. As we went through the standard questions - travel dates, number of travelers - we noticed the same wrinkle as our last review: to get an online quote, all travelers have to live in the same state of residence. In other words, if you're planning a family trip and your sister lives in Oregon, your brother is from Maine, and you live in Georgia, each of you will need to get a separate Travel Guard policy. However, that's an exclusion frequently found with all travel insurance sites - because prices are regulated at the state level.

Glitchy website = wasted time

However, that wasn't the only issue As we tried to enter the birthdates of the travelers in our fictitious party (not just the ages, as required by most sites), we kept getting an error asking for the date in a different format. No matter how we tried it, even using the little calendar icon and scrolling through to click on the appropriate birthdate, it wouldn't accept it. It took us nearly five minutes just to get the dates to go through (and we still have no idea what the site finally accepted, because the date looked exactly the same every time).

Keep an eye out for add-ons

We eventually got a quote of $102.50 for Essential, $197.27 for Preferred, and $339.76 for Deluxe. The biggest differences among the three plans were the coverage amounts and not the included items themselves. For example, medical expenses are covered up to $100,000, $50,000, and $15,000, respectively. We were surprised that only Preferred and Deluxe have the possibility of including Cancel For Any Reason, and you still have to pay for it as an upgrade. That optional coverage and all other options - Pet Bundle, Wedding Bundle (if your trip is for a wedding that's canceled; doesn't apply if you're the bride or the groom), Adventure Sports inclusion, and so on - will be displayed and can be included once you've chosen your base Travel Guard plan.

Best Travel Insurance Plans

BBB gives it an "A+” despite 1,200+ complaints

The Better Business Bureau gives Travel Guard an "A+” rating and accreditation. There were over 1200 complaints filed there, which isn't too surprising considering how much of a market share this travel insurance company has (with thousands upon thousands of policies issued every month). The BBB's rating means you can trust that if you have an issue, it will be addressed and resolved appropriately.

Claims are frequently denied

That being said, it's discouraging to read through complaint after complaint (on the BBB site and elsewhere) describing how often Travel Guard denies claims. It doesn't even seem to matter what the cause is - airline cancellations, lost baggage, you name it - there are too many times when either something that should be covered isn't, or the policyholder had been led to believe that they had coverage when they actually didn't.

Claims process is a chore

Plus, communication from Travel Guard during the claims process is almost nonexistent - and that squares up with our own experience; making a claim for 8 non-refundable plane tickets canceled during the early days of the pandemic, we were only reimbursed in part for a few of them (with Travel Guard incorrectly claiming that the airline had refunded the taxes and fees), and it was rare for us to get any kind of update. It was a pleasant surprise when we received any money back at all - and even that trickled in sporadically, despite making claims on all eight tickets at the same time.

Not our top choice for travel insurance

We're disappointed to have to give Travel Guard such a low rating: many travel agents still recommend this company as their bread-and-butter insurance choice, after all. However, the overall customer experience - including our own - just isn't consistent enough to rank Travel Guard any higher than "barely average”.

Like most types of insurance, travel insurance is bought in the hopes that you'll never need it. But, for most travelers, it's worth the price for the protection it provides.

And, even if you do have that kind of protection, travel insurance policies can amplify your benefits. For example, if you choose a plan that offers $500,000 in primary medical coverage, you might not need to touch your regular health insurance: your bills will be reimbursed up to that amount, no matter what your everyday health plan includes. Car rental insurance can go above and beyond what's paid for by your credit card company or even your own vehicle's coverage - and that can be critical if you're driving in another country and have an accident.

What type of travel insurance do you need? Naturally, that depends on your trip, your travel party, and your budget. A single-trip policy will be more affordable than multi-trip coverage - but if you're traveling internationally more than once in a year, the annual policy becomes much more economical. Do you need to be able to cancel for any reason? Is it important to you to have a waiver of the pre-existing conditions exclusion? Are there any children under 18 in your party that might be included at no extra charge, depending on the insurer you select? These are all factors that will influence your decision when picking a travel insurance plan.

  • Value. What's included for your premium? From one site to another, you will probably see the same price on any given plan because the states regulate travel insurance prices. However, it's worth your time to compare premium prices and benefits among different insurers, so that you get the most for your money.
  • Reputation. It's easy for an insurance company to get high marks from customers if they never had to make a claim on the policy. What do clients who've filed claims say about the way they were treated? Were they reimbursed quickly? Did they get updates about the status of the claim? It's also good to check the Better Business Bureau's rating of any travel insurance service you're going to use.

Good Customer Service Experience

We bought a TravelGuard policy when we bought airline tickets through Frontier. Only a couple days later Frontier changed our flight times by 13+ hours which would no longer work for our travel plans.

Since it was within the 15 day "review" period TravelGuard fully refunded our premium consistent with their policy quickly and with NO drama.

Travel Guard has been unresponsive and has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I booked a trip and purchased trip insurance through Travel Guard. I had to cancel the trip for medical reasons and I filed a claim on January 8, 2024. The information they requested was uploaded on the Travel Guard Portal on January 9, 2024. Forty-eight hours after sending the information, I contacted them to make sure they had all the required information. They confirmed they had all the forms I sent. They told me it would take 10 to 15 business days to review the claim and the insurance adjuster would contact me. It is now February 12th and I have not heard anything from Travel Guard or the adjuster. I have called a few times and keep getting the same run around. I called again today and even asked to speak to a supervisor and was told the supervisor is just going to say the same thing and would not connect me. Had to Wait for the Check, But at Least it Came

My husband and I had a flight on Alaskan Airlines from Portland to Tampa, which was canceled because the airlines did not have sufficient staff to operate the flight. We were stuck in Portland for two additional days before we could return home. I thought we would be reimbursed in full, but it turns out, our policy only allowed for a certain amount per person daily. It took a month and a 1/2, but we did receive a check for $600. Takes two weeks to get response from claims. Then they ask for additional information even though you already sent. Dont get to talk to claims adjusters only email I had to resubmit information again with letter of explanation. Another way to prolong payments. Very flustered with not being able to talk to adjuster. You only talk to a real person when you call in to ask for adjuster. They cant trans the call. Flight was delayed because of bad weather in DFW. We waited 3 days on standby at the airport without any luggage. Booked thru Expedia and bought AIG Travel Guard protection plus paid $667.84 for the insurance. It has been over 2 months since I filed the claim and no response from this company. I sent them all kinds of documents that they requested and still no check. DO NOT BOOK THRU EXPEDIA AND BUY THEIR AIG TRAVEL GUARD PROTECTION IT IS NOT GOING TO PAY YOUR WASTING YOUR MONEY. I am sure i am not the only person this has happened to. This is called deceptive trade and it stops here!!!

Dont waste your money

Dont waste your money. Even though you get the trip cancellation coverage there is a fine print they dont tell you about. Unless you are dead, you are not getting your money back. They work like any other insurance company and will take your money and deny your claim. I have filed claims twice with them and neither were approved. One was COVID related and another was an error to the airline.

RUN FAR FROM THIS INSURANCE. I purchased travel insurance through them through Expedia. I had to change a flight and there was an adjustment in cost. Filed a claim which is 100% covered by the policy. Even after saying the claim was approved and will be settled, 4 months have passed and still not received payment of $314. When you contact customer support "they tell you it's in processing" and can't provide an ETA. It's 2020 and a wire transfer is taking longer than "Philippides" in ancient Greek times delivering a message. That's because they have no intention on paying and keep you going in circles. Even the email they provide to submit claims doesn't work, a dubious way they get you to waste time. If you read this, believe me, I'm saving you a headache, migraine and stress, DO NOT USE TRAVELGUARD (AIG) IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE.

Travel Guard and AIG - Bad choice for travellers

I misguidedly trusted a Forbes.com review when buying a primary care travel insurance policy for a long term trip, only to find that Travel Guard whom they ranked in their top 2, is awful! The AIG policy they sold me is a lemon. Over 2 weeks have gone by and not a single response from AIG for the claim that I sent, and when I called their 24/7 line, received a message saying call after 8.30am EST! I left a message with the details of my policy only to receive a message back saying I was welcome to BUY a policy, when I had left them my policy number! When I called someone not from the East Coast told me their claims are taking longer than 15 business days due to high volume, but they promised a 10-15 day turnaround. I am now stuck with medical bills that were supposed to have been paid, wondering how long this will all take, and incorrect information about the help I should receive.

I had a trip to Africa which was my trip of a lifetime, that I planned for all year. Emirates Airline cancelled the flight without telling us why several weeks before the day we were set to go. It was right after Iraq was bombed and their was talk of Dubai also being in the cross hairs. We were totally unable to find another flight to Tanzania and had to cancel the trip. Travel Guard is refusing to give us our money because Emirates won't tell them or us why they cancelled! It doesn't matter why, the reality is we had absolutely no way to get there. I am about to contact an attorney. DO NOT USE THIS group that only takes your money and finds 100 excuses not to honor their commitment.

Travel Guard sucks

Travel Guard sucks! I have filed two claims; both were denied. 1. The airline went out of business 2. Germany closed their border to tourism a 1 1/2 months before my trip Both were completely unforeseen which is what I thought insurance was for. I contacted Travel Guard to file a claim, I'd received the agents name Michael Lund and I still have yet to speak, email, txt, bird call, dammit Morris code with him. They knew Bookit.com was a fraud company. I'm going to push this issue as far as I can. I saved up a year for this trip. Fraud as scammers Bookit.com and AIG Travel Guard are dicking me with no Vaseline!!!

Do Not Buy from this company!!!

Do Not Buy from this company! I purchased insurance for my final trip to Maui. I say final because I have cancer. The trip was canceled 6 months in advance of traveling so I asked for my insurance money to be refunded. They refused and I have now lost $662.23. This is the same a stealing from old people! Very disappointed!!!!!

The worst travel insurance company out there. This company is a downright disgrace. They should be shut down. My flight was cancelled for me due to COVID reasons, at no fault of my own, and these scammers didn't want to refund my travel policy. They're scamming people right and left at no fault of their own! They won't refund you, they won't transfer the policy, they will offer 0 solutions to help you!!! AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE! SCAMMERS AND LOW LIFES!

Pyramid scheme with airline United, Big Scam Dont purchase policy

They do business as AIG also, Dont get they insurance its a scam. I purchased they insurance for a travel and suffered major swelling due to a 12 hour wait/delay in airport. I assume flight would get me home in timely manner after a surgery I had and wind up getting stuck in airport and due to the long wait delay I accumulated major swelling that led to other issues stitches I had busting open and all got out of control and I finally went to ER to get help, I was fine until waiting in airport. My claim was $5,000 money I paid after Er visit and it paid with my credit card and was instructed to submit evidence proof of payment in order for claim to be reimbursed, I did all even United Airlines supporting documents and claim was denied. Do Not bother paying for this type coverage its all a scam, they do not pay out if you get injured as claimed when you purchase policy. BBB need to look into this company. Def some sort of pyramid scheme between them and United Airlines.

BEWARE - BEWARE -BEWARE

This is my experience and my opinion. If I could give this company a zero star I would. All the reviews stating this company is a scam are correct in my opinion based on my experience.  I purchased trip cancellaton/interruption insurance. I sustained an injury and Travel Guard (AIG) did absolutely nothing to help me, and they denied my claim after I provided all necessary information. My experience has led me to beleive Travel Guard (AIG) designs their policies to fail their customers. I echo the previous posts who feel it's a scam, cash grab and an untrustworthy company. I think you should go elsewhere for travel insurance. I think this company sells cheap insurance to lure you in and then doesn't deliver in your time of need.  I went as far as sending correspondance to senior staff( Peter Zaffino CEO and others). Not one of these people acknowledged me. A true executive to believes in their company, the value of its customers, and prides themselves with honor and morals would have done more. My opinion is they are shameful and exhibit unethical business practices. I would reccomend Investors think long and hard before they tie their name to a disgraceful company with such business practices as this one.  My experience also leads me to believe, providing quality fair service is not their objective. Their profits are solely based on robbing and tricking policy holders with unclear, policy terms.  I should have paid more attention to previous reviews containing "Customers be warned" I highly encourage potential buyers to understand your policy in detail before buying. A warning sign is customer service unable to interpret their own policy. I experienced first hand how incompetent the staff were  as I tried to navigate my policy with them in my time of need. The staff do not provide proper assistance. I did not feel safe nor protected with Travel Guard AIG.  I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY EVER AGAIN.

Worst service ever

Worst service ever. "Forseen" event is the language used to steal travelers money. When I planned a cruise/visit to Europe I foresaw a global pandemic. Travel guard is nothing more than a con/shell game. I will not waste money ever again on this type of insurance.

Travel Guard Policy Confirmation: 941874348 They claim wrongfully that the cancelation of scheduled trip was due to fear; therefore it is not their problem. We got into a lockdown and trips were cancelled to Italy. You owe me $145.84, and I demand my money back. It's been over two months

I’m trying to give a one star for…

Putting this review on hold because the company is now trying to work with me. My husband also reminded me that when we had to cancel a family trip to Costa Rica because my mother had a stroke the night before we were to leave, AIG helped us to get our monies paid out back. Maybe they will come through this time as well. I’m trying to give a one star for travel guard, but can’t seem to go lower than 2 stars. Right now, I have been kicked off of my Rick Steve’s tour for testing positive for covid. I had cold symptoms in the very small but lovely village of Dunkeld in Scotland and was tested by the tour leader. Since I tested positive, I was forced to stay behind in Dunkeld, which fortunately has a train station. I could not get into the one physician in Dunkeld and the hotel was full. I did have one further night there booked by the tour. AIG has been of no help whatsoever. They gave me phone numbers to call in the US, but I’m in the UK. I masked up and took a train to Glasgow. AIG recommended that I have a telehealth visit with a physician in MADRID - Spain! While a telehealth visit may be good for some things, not so good with respiratory issues. Otherwise, they suggested I go to an ER in Glasgow. I was not that ill to need an ER, the ER gave me the 24 hour of the NIH for nurse assistance, which AIG (even tho they have a headquarters in London.) AIG is saying that they won’t pay the claim without a positive test on file even though the Rick Steves office is verifying the positive result of the test done in the presence of their tour leader. AIG won’t tell me where to get the test done in Glasgow. It’s like some kind of unending circle game. I think that they are just trying to get out of paying my claim. Choose another travel insurance company. One that actually does what they say they will do. Otherwise, you are just throwing your money away.

Complete waste of money and time

Complete waste of money and time. AIG happily took my money to insure a trip, and set a new standard for how to mishandle a claim. I was required to work unexpectedly by my employer the day of my departure, and AIG used the fine print against me to decline my claim. Understand when you purchase a policy, there are very few, extremely rare circumstances in which they will pay on a trip cancellation claim. Furthermore, the initial response I receive from AIG after filing my claim said exactly "Our objective is to promptly inform you of our decision, generally within 10 to 15 business days of receiving your submitted claims form." That email was received on September 22, 2022. I finally received confirmation that my claim was denied on December 14, 2022. That would total 83 days (EIGHTY-THREE DAYS!!!!!) before I received a decision on my claim, in which they found a way to still deny. I cannot properly state how unpleasant and disappointing my experience with this company has been, and I will NEVER do business with them again. If you are considering one of their policies, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Travel Guard (also known as AIG Travel) is little more than a scam. The wording of their policies is so restrictive that it's clearly an attempt to protect themselves from having to pay claims. To further discourage their customers, they make the claims process nearly impossible. For instance, in reply to my claim, they said they needed: • "Claim form with supporting documentation which included: claim form, itinerary, response to the decision letter" — What does that mean? I already submitted the claim form. If I hadn't, there would be no claim in progress. They ask for supporting documentation without saying what that is. It would be like me telling Southwest Airlines, "Please sell me a ticket to city." Itinerary? This request makes little sense. What I planned to do during my trip is irrelevant and their request for such a thing is clearly just an attempt to complicate the process. "Response to the decision letter" is yet another requirement with no explanation. • "Initial explanation for cancellation" —This was already provided with the claim. Why would they claim that it's still required? If you feel you need travel insurance, please buy it through a reputable company. AIG/Travel Guard is no such place. You will not be protected whatsoever and will have donated money to AIG in return for nothing more than false hope.

Horrible Experience! They truly don't care

Booked a one week, Dominican Republic vacation, through Travelocity, leaving from EWR.Showed up early in the morning (paid for parking), well in advance of my flight (JetBlue). At the check-in I was rejected because though my passport expires 7/21/2024 I was told that my passport had to be valid within 6 months of travel. I immediately went to the Travelocity website which says nothing about this for my travel. I then went to the JetBlue website, took screenshots of their directions to review travel requirements for the Dominican Republic, and showed them screenshots where it clearly only states under Passport validity, "Passports must be valid for the period of stay in the Dominican Republic." JetBlue refused to let me on the flight so like any consumer I called Travelocity. The customer service person did everything he could to help but ultimately he said this was an airline issue and he called JetBlue who still would not allow for my travel due to this "6 month" requirement. Understanding this I called my travel insurance I signed up for through Travelocity and it turned out to be AIG Travel Insurance. Of course on a Sunday there is no live person to help at AIG Travel Insurance. I called promptly on Monday and they walked me through filing a claim. In the end they not only did nothing to help me get credited for my NO travel but they had the nerve to send me all their terms and conditions of which none addressed being rejected by an airline as a reason to award a claim. So now I paid $220 for travel insurance that did nothing to help me. Travelocity could not do anything and I had to work with JetBlue who refunded everything but the parking to a "Travel Credit" which I have to use with them. I got my return flight (United) credited which I have to use through Travelocity but the resort refused to credit me even though I also called them on the 9th and 10th to let them know all that happened. I would never use AIG Travel Guard again. They did nothing to help me with my situation or even assist in maybe changing travel.

Cruise interruption for hospitalization

Our Baltic cruise was interrupted when my husband was hospitalized in Norway. After 6 months, some of my husbands bills were reimbursed, but none of mine were. Our school was to have their graduation…

Our school was to have their graduation grade 8 trip back in May. Due to unfortunate circumstances of covid, the trip was cancelled. The travel company sent the refund request to Travel Guard for our refunds. Since early June, it has been "in processing". Our school administrators have been following up frequently and still no answer when we are to get refunded. So now, administration has asked us parents to start going after the company as well. Is this company that heartless of taking money from thirteen year olds????

Buyer BEWARE! Stay Away!

Purchased insurance in September of 2020 for a cruise in June 2021. Royal Caribbean has cancelled all sailings until further notice. Because it in UNKNOWN on when I will be able to take my cruise I contacted Travel Guard to cancel and refund my premium. Travel Guard refuses to refund any money. After reading several reviews I can see that this company is a scam.They are scamming people every where. Stay away!

Don't go for the cheap option

My trip was derailed due to airport employee incompetence. Submitted my insurance claim in January, has taken them 4 months to tell me that they will not honor my claim. They list on their website and insurance package what they will help you with, then when you need help with one of these things, they say they can't. Typical of these cheap option insurance companies, make you go back and forth with them only to tell you they won't pay you out. Always find an excuse to keep your money instead of doing what they sell you. Next time, I will pay extra for a better and more reputable company.

Disappointed

My wife and I bought AIG (Travel Guard) travel insurance for our Panama Canal Cruise February, 2022. It included the usual Medical, trip return home and trip interruption coverage starting the day of departing our home and back. Unfortunately, during the cruise I got sick with post Covid bacterial double pneumonia and was hospitalized in a Panama City, Panama for a week. On my release, doctor suggested I stay in Panama City for 2-3 more days to recover further before traveling back to the United States. We decided to fly back home the same day of release (although my insurance policy should have covered staying extra days to recover). We wanted to get home and recuperate in my own bed. Because of time of release from hospital, only flight we could get home got us to Nashville airport (our originating airport) around mid-night. Our home is about 2 ½ hours’ drive from the airport. So, we decided to stay the night near Nashville airport and drive home next day. AIG refused to pay for the taxi to the hotel and our night stay at Nashville. The claims adjuster stated that AIG expected us to drive home at midnight. That’s the day I was released from hospital after a week of hospitalization with post Covid double pneumonia. I needed oxygen to fly home, per doctor’s order. Since I was on wheel chair after release from hospital, throughout various legs of our journey till we got to the hotel in Nashville, we tipped the wheelchair helper and luggage porter. AIG refused to pay for any of it, claiming, it was not covered expenses. How can that be not covered when it was medically necessary. Slow and unhelpful

Trying to make a claim due to covid 19 cancellation. They have been slow to even respond to the claim. I bought trip insurance but they are now claiming that the accommodation does not form part of the trip. Which is obviously not true. Expedia sell this dodgy company's products which makes you wonder whose interests they have at heart.

Don’t buy this!!!!

They ask for an excessive amount of documentation when making a claim that involves getting the airlines to send documents. It is not enough to send boarding passes and proof that was received electronically to show a flight was delayed. I believe they do this to take your money and no pay the claim. I would not go through this headache again and would rather safe my money in the future.

Total Nightmare!!

I purchased cancel for any reason which costs extra and is optional - BUT apparently you are not allowed to actually cash it in. I have waited two months to hear anything on this claim and I keep getting asked for info I do not have and just keep getting the run around, if you pay for cancel for ANY reason all you should have to show is that you cancelled the trip. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!

False Sense of Security

False sense of security. Purchased AIG Travel also known as Travel Guard for a flight to Asia in December before COVID-19 was known. Event that I was attending was canceled due to the coronavirus and quarantines for people returning from Asia were starting in late January. I submitted the lengthy claim form to AIG with documentation. It seems like they're trying to weed out submissions with that process. After several weeks, I received a templated letter that stated my claim was denied. AIG's policy covers very little and the fine print leaves them a lot of room to deny claims. Make sure to review it very carefully or better yet avoid wasting your money with AIG Travel. Instead, purchase flights with airlines that have no rebooking costs or purchase a cancel-for-any-reason policy through another company.

Untrustworthy company

When the pandemic cancelled our Viking River cruise, we were not concerned as we had spent $600 for TravelGuard trip insurance. I contacted TravelGuard and was told we could use the policy when out trip was rescheduled. Now a year later I am told they will not honor our rebooking and will not issue a refund because it is past the original date of departure. So they tell you one thing, take your money and provide no service. In any other situation this is theft. Never trust them. I would give zero stars if I could.

Heartless frauds

Due to Covid-19, my $12k trip to Bora Bora was cancelled by no fault of my own. Entire countries have borders closed and airlines cannot operate. I could not go on the trip even if I wanted to. Come to find out, Travelguard won’t cover your trip due to the virus unless you actually contract the virus. What a joke. They are taking advantage of a horrible situation and not adjusting to the unknown like each and every person in the world has to. DO NOT purchase a policy with them. You’re better off keeping that money because they will not help you.

I bought AIG travel guard for $250

I bought AIG travel guard for $250. Flight was cancelled by carrier. I incurred a taxi bill of $178 due to having to get another flight which was a day later. I had no ride to my final destination because I lost my ride from the airport in Philly to Delaware due to the cancellation. AIG denied my claim because the cost was incurred AFTER I landed. The rep said had my cost occurred prior to landing it would be covered . REALLY! Don’t waist your money!!! Total rip off!

Travel Guard - not worth the money

When I first bought the Travel Guard travel insurance, they listed airplane delays as one of the things that was covered, but then they denied my claim for this very thing. We were stuck in customs for over 2 hours and missed our connection flight home. We had to book alternative travel plans due to this missed connection. The process to submit a claim is extremely tedious, and once submitted you never speak to an actual person. Travel Guard took over two weeks to respond back to me about this. It makes me wonder what they actually do cover. So now we are out $300 for the worthless travel insurance plus the additional $450 for the hotel room and rental car to get home.

Don't waste your money!

I purchased 2 international flights in Feb 2020, and because of COVID I also purchased AIG Travel Guard, thinking that I would be covered if things got worse. Well, the borders to Germany closed to US citizens and I was unable to travel in August because of this. Not to mention I saved up for a year for my fiance and I to travel abroad. Do you think AIG covered this? Nope! I have gotten the run-around for months now from AIG and every time I call they say that the claim will be expedited to a specialist and I should expect a call in 3-5 days, which never happens! I am wondering what exactly this "travel insurance" covers! Waste of money, unkept promises, never ever purchase this worthless insurance!!!

A COMPLETE RIPOFF. BUYER BEWARE. The whole reason for getting cancellation insurance is, in case of an emergency, and you can't make it. You have to pretty much be on a death bed to get a full refund. They should mention that right below the "click to buy." Have 2 vouchers for several hundred dollars. You have to call in, booked a trip in June. After 2 1/2 hours on hold had to give up. Had used them pre-Covid many times as I'm a frequent traveler, it used to be when you called you got someone and they were always friendly and helpful. Now it seems like they're outsource. I can't imagine if I had an emergency and needed their services. Useless company, shame on them.

I had to file a claim with AIG Travel Guard after a souvenir was damaged in my checked baggage. DO NOT purchase this insurance, the process to file a claim is horrendous. It take at least 30 minutes on hold, then they always tell you that your claims representative is busy, but will call you back..... Yeah right! Going on a month and a half and they have my travel dates incorrect and won't cover the claim. Now I'm trying to correct their error, thank GOD I never had an emergency.

It all sounds great until you have a claim. They pay the parts where the paperwork is 100% perfect and then find ways to deny payment for anything else. Unless you travel with an attorney who reviews every note your foreign doctor and hospital write they will find an excuse not to cover things.

Review: I purchased trip cancellation insurance for four people for a trip. One of the people has been periodically unemployed, collecting unemployment and couldn't' make the trip. This made all of us unable to make the trip. I just received a phone call stating they were denying my claim for lack of documentation. They never ASKED for the documentation for the unemployment, as I told them to contact the person who was unemployed for his info, as it is not my business to see his financial information. They did not do that despite having his contact information.Desired Settlement: I want them to fulfill the claim, as in their policy they will cover the claim if there is unemployment. Review: My complaint consist of two parts: Travel Guard's failure to honor the insurance policy I purchased and Travel Guard's abusive practices involving collection agencies. My wife and I purchased travel insurance through [redacted]. The insurance company [redacted] uses is Travel Guard Chartis and the insurance is underwritten by National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA. During our vacation, my wife became ill and had to visit a cruise ship doctor and be given medications. Once we arrived on land, we had to take her to Urgent Care for further testing and medicine. Upon returning home, I filed a claim with Travel Guard to which they originally honored a portion of. When I inquired about the remainder of the claim, I was contacted by [redacted] who demanded I refund the portion of the paid claim. From my perspective, I was covered and Travel Guard still owed me money. From her perspective, I purchased the wrong policy. I explained this was in dispute and I would further investigate my claim. I contacted [redacted] directly and tried to confirm in writing that my wife was covered. [redacted] then directed me to their website and explained that the explanation of coverage was available before confirming any purchase. I was able to confirm coverage through the checkout review. Section 2 of the review says, "Why Buy the Travel Protection Plan?" and the following line says "If a family member gets sick..." I then clicked on "Description of Coverage". Under the Description of Coverage / Flight Protection Plan/ Domestic Destinations for Trips booked after June 7, 2011, I further confirmed coverage. Under the section entitled "Trip Cancellation & Interruption", Travel Guard's policy states "The Insurer will pay a benefit, up to the Maximum Limit shown on the Schedule, if an Insured cancels his/her Trip or is unable to continue on his/her Trip due to the following Unforeseen events:" The first event listed is "(a) Sickness, Injury or death of an Insured, Family Member, Traveling Companion and Business Partner. 1) Injury or Sickness of an Insured, Traveling Companion or Family Member traveling with the Insured must be so disabling as to reasonably cause a Trip to be cancelled or interrupted, or which results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a Physician at the time of Loss preventing your continued participation in the Trip" My wife was sick as confirmed by TWO licensed physicians (the ship doctor and the urgent care physician) As a result of her illness, our trip was interrupted. We were unable to continue our vacation and had to remain in a hotel resting until her health returned. I provided documented proof of the illness from both my insurance company and the physician's office. The second part of my complaint is towards [redacted]. Without notice, she turned my account over to Summit AR collection agency knowing this account was in dispute as an aggressive bully tactic to get me to refund the money that was legally mine. I was able to quickly resolve the matter with the collection agency ([redacted] was the account manager) through explaining the situation and offering any documentation they needed. Realizing I was in the right, Summit AR quickly cancelled and returned my account to Travel Guard. After researching Travel Guard's business practices, I have found multiple insurance reviews that clearly highlight the consistent failure of this company to honor their policies. A quick Google search will show that consumers frequently refer to Travel Guard as a "scam", "fraud", and "waste of money". Since this incident has taken several hours of my time to resolve, I am asking that the Revdex.com assist me in collecting the remainder of my claim, damages for the time and stress [redacted] and Travel Guard has caused which include but are not limited to the following: the time to work out my case with Summit AR, the cost and time to protect my credit with the credit Bureaus, the postage for letters delivered by certified mail, the hotel in California we had to stay out since we were unable to leave Long Beach due to the illness, the transport from the cruise port to the urgent care facility and from the urgent care facility to the hotel, and the stress of protecting my financial standing and credit score. Please note that while this benefit does provide coverage for medical reasons, it does not provide coverage for medical expenses. This benefit extends reimbursement for forfeited Trip Cost and additional transportation expenses incurred to return to the trip or home. From our review, we can find no evidence that additional transportation expenses were incurred by Mr. [redacted] to return home earlier or later than scheduled. Should Mr. [redacted] had incurred additional transportation expenses to return home or rejoin his trip, we welcome those for review under his Trip Interruption benefit. While we understand Mr. [redacted]’s concerns, the policy purchased is clear in that medical expenses are not covered under any benefit of the policy. We do recognize that an error was made by the adjuster in issuing the original payment to Mr. [redacted]. For this reason, we will not require Mr. [redacted] to reimburse the payment made in error. If you are planning a trip and need insurance, do not use TravelGuard. It is a shrewd business that is quick to take your money with no questions asked, but when it comes to filing legitimate claims, every single piece of red tape comes up through fine prints and contract wording it is simply how they stay operational as an organization. My girlfriend and I (who are both active duty military) booked a 7 days vacation to cancun all paid for. Since we worked in different positions we had to line up our leave dates to match (which was not easy) and the only days we had off were those 7 days. We were supposed to fly out from el paso to houston to cancun and the reverse on the way back. We got to the airport at 6 in the morning, checked in, and saw that there was a huge line at United. Apparently all flights to Houston were cancelled that morning due to a fire at the terminal and after checking various different combinations of departures and arrivals at a dozen different airports we realized that we will not make it to Cancun that day, thus missing out on one day of our precious leave and almost $900. The airline did fly us to Phoenix and had us stay overnight in Phoenix and fly out to Cancun the next day. The reason we did this is because there were only so many flights to Cancun each day in the entire country and we couldnt risk another missed flight from a small airport like El Paso. Before boarding the flight to Phoenix, I called Travel Guard as well as my travel agent and informed them of the flight. The customer service rep stated that she would file two claims for us and that as soon as we get back we should call them to finish those claims. A week later we came back and I called travel guard and submitted all of my paperwork (itinerary, receipts, flight changes, etc...). After several emails, I finally got an answer back saying I needed information from the airplane stating why it was canceled and if I submit that my file would be complete. So I contacted United and asked them to retrace back to my old flights (which was not easy since they recycle flight confirmations), and after a couple of weeks, a United service rep emailed me: Dear Mr; Thank you for submitting the information I requested. Thank you for contacting United Airlines Customer Care. I am sorry your flight didn't operate as scheduled and apologize for any inconvenience. As requested, on December 9, 2013, Flight [redacted] from El Paso to Cancun connecting in Houston was canceled due to airport terminal problems affecting our operation. We appreciate this opportunity to be of assistance and look forward to providing you a more positive travel experience. Regards, So I forwarded this email to Travel Guard, waited a week, called and the service rep stated he did not receive it. Apparently there is a new email that claims must be forwarded to that I wasnt aware of. So I had to forward this same email again a week later. Total time elapsed since I first spoke with with a travel guard agent is getting up to 2 months and dozens of emails. I've also talked to upward of 5-6 different agents who seemed more interested in pushing my files to the next person than actually processing it. I've also contacted my travel agent during this entire debacle to no avail. It was just yesterday that I received word that travel guard denied my claims because the delay was caused by the airline. Never mind that fact that their silver policy has this stated: TRIP DELAY The Company will reimburse the Insured up to the Maximum Limit shown in the Schedule or Declarations Page for Reasonable Additional Expenses until travel becomes possible to the originally scheduled Destination, if the Insured’s Trip is delayed 12 or more consecutive hours and prevents the Insured from reaching the intended Destination as a result of a cancellation or delay of his/her Trip for one of the Unforeseen events listed below: (a) the Insured being involved in or delayed due to a traffic accident while en route to a departure as substantiated by a police report; (b) Common Carrier delay; (c) the Insured’s or Traveling Companion’s lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money; (d) the Insured or Traveling Companion is quarantined; (e) Strike; (f) Inclement Weather which prohibits Insured’s departure; (g) Natural Disaster Delays in common carrier I would imagine covers airlines. But the mistake I made was not reading the fine prints at the bottom of the policy. You see, theres a line in there that said: The following exclusions also apply to Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption: Unless otherwise provided by this plan Benefits will not be provided for any loss resulting (in whole or in part) from: (a) travel arrangements canceled by an airline, Cruise line or tour operator, except as provided elsewhere in the plan; But what does that mean? Does that include everything that is associated with the airline and the terminal? Did that just contradict what they said earlier? So you see, I am disappointed that I lost a day of vacation for no reason along with the 900 dollars we've spent through no fault of our own. Even the airline admitted there was an issue with the terminal. As a traveler who bought insurance, I would hope that if my trip was not covered because of these fine prints, the very least they could do is reimburse my initial payment since our trip got interrupted. But the contrary happened. I was given the go around and ultimately denied two months later for filing a legitimate claim. I understand that as a business you try to make profits and often times insurance companies get fraudulent claims but with travel guard, even a legitimate claim that you paid for must translate well with their contract wording. The money wont mean much in the long run, but that kind of broken trust is hard to ignore.

Review: We purchased a travel insurance policy with Travel Guard...We purchased this travel insurance in the event of an unforeseen emergency. Our trip and tour to Italy cost us $5,600, plus an additional $470.00 to purchase the policy. While we were in Italy our trip was interrupted for I suffered a heart attack and heart failure, which did not allow me to complete my trip. My health was in grave condition. I asked for assistance to fly back a day early to obtain medical help I was denied a flight by travel guard. We incurred taxi expenses totaling 280.00 in American dollars. Travel Guard was informed the day the emergency happened and their level of service poor and their policy promises untrue!!! We asked for help and denied help. I could have died because of their lack of cooperation, service and help. I should sue them , though all I have asked them for is a refund of $470.00 of policy!!! They are claiming a refund of $49.00 in taxi costs is adequate. I purchased insurance to cover me for travel interruption clearly stated in their policy. They will not hold true to their policy. On September 27, 2013, I arrived at Savannah airport from Washington Dulles but my baggage did not. I had purchased travel insurance with Travel Guard and delayed baggage is part of that policy. I did not get my baggage until THREE DAYS later, which clearly, clearly, clearly is delayed baggage. I had about $41 in out-of-pocket expenses during that three-day period to cover necessary items that were in the suitcase that I did not have. I had called the company on the day of travel and on the following day and was told by two representatives that I did have a claim, but that the Claims Department was not open until Monday. On Monday morning, I called Travel Guard, only to be told by two other representatives that no, I did not have a claim. Travel Guard says that I was "home," and not on the trip and therefore I am not entitled to any reimbursements or claims. My baggage was delayed for three days. Again, three days. And again, three days. It didn't matter whether or not I was "home." I had no baggage. IT WAS DELAYED. I cannot repeat that enough times. I am completely disagreeing with the company's assessment, especially when I was told by two agents that I did have a claim.Desired Settlement: I would like for Travel Guard, which I feel misrepresented itself (and which could be considered fraud), to pay the Baggage Delay claim of $300 AND, because of the enormous amount of time spent on this issue, I would also like a complete reimbursement of $34 for the policy. Review: I filed a claim for a refund from travel guard co. for a trip that I had booked with bookit.com on 6-5-2013 I received a letter on July asking for additional information I fax the additional information on July 5th then I call a week later to see how long it would take to complete my claim and they stated another 2 weeks so 2 weeks went to several weeks I called them and asked what was the delay they stated that they had to contact bookit tour to verify my information which would take another week or so I then replied why they didn't contact bookit tour when they first received my information rep couldn't give me a answer why I then called the first week of August I was told that they received a reply back by bookit tour so I then replied so why isn't someone processing it no response but the reply was on August 7 th and I said to the rep it was been two days since you have received the reply why haven't been process for a refund rep replied the person that it handling the claim may be on vacation or out of the office I then replied do they just let the claim just sit there until the person returns why don't they have someone to handle the claim if the person is out of the office. I then asked to speak with a supervisor he then put me on hold for a couple of minutes then came back to say that one wasn't available I asked if he could then transfer me to the claims department lori came on the phone from claims department I asked her if she could get a supervisor she stated that one wasn't available she said that she would transfer me to the voicemail of a supervisor. I left a message then a supervisor did contact me back and said that she left a message for the lady that is handling my claim on Monday I am very upset that they would take this long to give me a refund in several of my conversations with the company that I was on disability and I needed the refund to send to my son oversize and that he needed the money.Desired Settlement: Check Business Response: To whom it may concern: We thank Ms. [redacted] for her comments and concerns regarding her Trip Cancellation claim. Review: I was informed that my insurance (purchased on March 8th) was non-refundable after my flight was canceled. A charge was executed on my card, despite the flight being canceled. I was informed there was "nothing we can do" and that I would be purchasing insurance for a ticket that didn't exist. This is poor business, and I will not being doing business with them again. According to them, I have purchased a service that is unusable, and I am stuck with the consequences.Desired Settlement: Refund insurance cost deducted from my credit card, due to a lack of service provided. Review: We purchased Travel Guard Insurance for a plane ticket to South Africa for my wife with family there. Travel Guard advertised that they would refund the price of an airline ticket if for unforeseen circumstances the traveler (my wife [redacted]) could not make their flight. When we purchased a plane ticket for my wife, our mother had already been scheduled for lung surgery that was "deemed" fairly routine. After receiving information from the surgeon that the hospital stay would be short, we planned my wife's trip accordingly to the time the surgeons said our mother would be out of the hospital and relatively recovered. Our mother went into the hospital and had her surgery, however, the doctors then found other problems which required an unanticipated longer stay in the hospital. At this point the surgeon's could not tell us how long that stay would be and could not tell us what condition our mother was in (she is an ** year old woman, now **). We had to make a decision about my wife's travel. My wife decided not to travel to South Africa. We did not know what the condition of our mother was and we were very concerned. Again, we KNEW our mother was going to have surgery before we made plans for travel and planned according to the information given to us by the surgeons! We cancelled the plane trip due to our mom's deteriorating condition and unplanned longer stay in the hospital which was undetermined how long at the time we had to make our decision. The plane ticket was for May 21, 2013. We contacted Travel Guard the day before the plane reservation to notify them that the plane will be missed and requested information on how to make a claim to get our money refunded for the ticket which is what Travel Guard claimed that the insurance is for (due to unforeseen circumstances). On June 27th, 2013 we had collected the hospital and doctor documents that Travel Guard required and submitted them to prove our claim. This was almost 3 and a half months ago (4 months from claim initiation). The company makes a claim that all will be resolved in 30 days! I have made countless calls to contact travel guard and RARELY are they returned. There system is set up where you basically never get a real person and usually a computer that states you'll be contacted in 48 hours which only sometimes happens. I was assigned a representative [redacted]. She was extremely unhelpful. She always had an excuse as to why the claim hadn't been processed and always required more and more information. Then, I was assigned a new representative [redacted]. Same thing went on.They kept saying they needed more and more medical records. Finally, we provided them with official medical records where the surgeon even in his own records documented that we were not able to make the flight due to the change in condition of our mother in the hospital! The last I heard they were supposed to be waiting for records that I personally handled at the hospital for Travel Guard directly! This was well over a month ago. My last contact with Travel Guard was the letter attached below which was almost a month ago. I have received no response again! This is worse than poor business practice! We have more than proven our need to not make our flight due to our mother's condition and an unscheduled extended stay in the hospital. My last letter is below. [redacted]. and [redacted] 9-8-13 Claim # [redacted] Travel Guard Claims Department Attn: [redacted] Dear Ms. [redacted], I am writing to inquire why this claim is taking so long? It has now been 3 months since the claim was made. The advertising states that it only takes 30 days? With the last documents sent in, one of the lead main surgeons (Dr. [redacted]) dealing with our mom's hospital care even comments in the official records that my mother had to stay in the hospital an extended amount of time and that due to this information, he was aware that we had to make a decision on whether [redacted] was to proceed with her travels. Due to our concern for the health and life of our mother we had to make a hard decision to forgo the travel plans and stay close incase our ** year old mother got worse or passed away. The reason is clear. The doctors records verify all the facts. We do not understand why this is not a clear cut easy decision to approve our claim? We would greatly appreciate your help in getting final approval for our claim! Thank you for your help and time! The purpose for additional review was due to the fact that Mrs. [redacted]'s policy does not provide coverage for loss due to Pre-Existing Medical Conditions. As such, medical records were required to rule out the condition causing the loss being a Pre-Existing Medical Condition. Upon further review of those records, we were able to identify that the reason noted on the Attending Physician's Statement claim form completed by [redacted]'s doctor show the conditions causing this loss as falling under the Pre-Existing Medical Condition exclusion. However, further review of these medical records also showed a change in [redacted]'s condition showing additional medical conditions not previously diagnosed or discussed in the medical records occuring in May 2013. Based solely on these conditions found only in the medical records requested, we have been able to find a payable medical condition to allow for reimbursement of this loss. Please note that this claim is currently with Mrs. [redacted]'s adjuster, [redacted], for finalization. She will be contacting the [redacted]'s to confirm the amount of payment after her calculations are complete. Review: Purchased travel insurance for my trip to Detroit on 9/2. unfortunately my brother in law passed away. Travel Guard requested when I filed a claim the Death Certificate. I advised them that I did not understand why they required that level of detail. Due to issues with Identify theft of deceased persons, my family does not allow that type of information to leave their possession. The agent I told this to, advised me to just send in the docuementation that I had, which was the funeral program, the signed document from the Funeral Director, and I included a map where he was buried. I did this last week, and yesterday received a reply back that they wanted the death certificate. My first issue is that they want this level of detail, and when I inquired about that they did not reveal at the time I purchased the ticket. I do not even recall receiving an email with the details of the policy. They need to include that information prior to people purchasing their insurance. I am upset because the agent I spoke with made it sound as if they would accept the documentation that I did have, and am very disappointed that they did not honor that, and again asked for a death certificate. I checked with various people who have purchased other travel insurance, and they have never been asked to provide that information. Not only that Death Certificates are not cheap either. I want to report them, and I want the money for the ticket back, as they agreed. My next call is to the State's Atty.Desired Settlement: Refund, and improvements to their notification process for people prior to purchasing the insurance. If I had been given this information prior, especially knowing that I had an ill relative, I would not have purchased the insurance and would have sought another means of insuring my travel. Proof of loss is required in order to continue processing the trip cancellation claim. Please refer to the policy wording, which states in pertinent part: Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Proof of Loss. The Insured must provide Travel Guard documentation of the cancellation or interruption and proof of the expenses incurred. The Insured must provide proof of payment for the Trip such as canceled check or credit card statements, proof of refunds received, copies of applicable tour operator or Common Carrier cancellation policies, and any other information reasonably required to prove the Loss. Claims involving Loss due to Sickness, Injury, or death require signed patient (or next of kin) authorization to release medical information and an attending Physician’s statement. The Insured must provide Travel Guard with all unused air, rail, cruise or other tickets if he/she is claiming the value of those unused tickets. Once we receive the required information from Ms. [redacted], we can continue to review the claim. Review: Upon booking a flight with Frontier Airlines I purchased the travel insurance offered for my flight by Travel Guard.My daughter and I were scheduled a return flight to our hometown on Saturday, Jan. 17th, 2015. My daughter developed a cough and earache in the days leading up to the flight. On Friday, Jan. 16th at approximately 11am I contacted Travel Guard and asked them how I would file a claim to changed our flights. The lady I spoke to was very friendly and informed me that illness and the costs incurred were covered up to a total of $800 ($400 per person) and specifically included the increase in airfare. She told me it was very simple and that all I needed was a doctors note. I made an appointment at a local clinic that evening after travel guard closed, and based on the doctors recommendation changed our flights to the next available flight from FLL to SDF costing me a total of $535.16. On Travel Guards next day of business I called to file the claim and was told that there was specific paperwork that needed to be filled out by the doctor. I was not told this prior to the doctors visit in an out of town city. I was also told that the change in fare wasn't covered. I explained that this had all been cleared the previous Friday by an employee of Travel Guard who made it seem very simple. Instead I was given a medical release that I needed to sign so that travel guard could contact my childs doctor to prove this wasn't an ongoing issue, and several other documents to fill out and return. After no correspondence from Travel Guard I was refunded $150, just the fees required to change the flights, and not the difference of the cost of the flights. The difference of the cost of last minute flights is an incurred expense, and is not specifically named as something that is not covered, and I was told that it was!Desired Settlement: I would like Travel Guard to refund by full amount of $536.16, as well as the cost of purchasing the Travel Guard insurance in the first place. Review: The advertisement came in as part of buying our flight tickets to India (Departure May 20th, 2014) via budget air by auto select option of the travel insurance. After we bought the tickets we realized it was included in the travel with ticket pricing. But recently my husband's company provides a similar emergency travel assistance free insurance. We tried to cancel the Travel Guard insurance and they would not refund the money. We paid into something that we are not going to use it as we have nearly duplicate insurance. Here is the transcript of the emails:Desired Settlement: I want full refund of money, if they are concerned with good ethical business practice. Business Response: After corresponding with the customer on 05/14, Travel Guard made a resolution and refunded the customer in the full amount. We appreciate our customers and their business. My wife entered hospital on second day in Lima, Peru, and had to cancel remainder of trip including Machu Pichu. Travel Guard was absolutely fantastic in refunding even though I only submitted paperwork 11 months after the trip (I procrastinate terribly with paperwork). They had only one question and then cut checks after their review. It helped that I had all receipts.

Review: I filed a claim for reimbursement for my cancellation costs for a trip that was originally scheduled for July 3, 2014 through July 7, 2014 and subsequently cancelled. This trip was to my knowledge booked on June 29, 2014. At the time of booking I also purchased travel insurance through your company for this trip. I visited my physician on June 26, 2014 for a routine checkup and since I also have allergies and was coughing constantly he decided to treat me for an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis. He was aware that I was planning a trip out of town at that visit and did not suggest I change my plans. He did, however suggest that if I didn’t get better in a short amount of time that I would need to revisit the issue and possibly add some medications to my treatment plan. I was instructed to call back if I did not improve rapidly. I called my physician on June 30 and he added an inhaler and Singulair to my treatment. At that time he did advise me to cancel my trip since there was worsening of my symptoms. I had no problem cancelling because I was under the impression that I would not be out of pocket any expenses due to my purchase of travel insurance. Travel Guard has repeatedly denied payment for my cancelled trip stating that they need additional medical information which has been provided to them by virtue of the Claim Form and additional follow up requests made to my physician. They are just stalling in hopes that I like so many others will simply drop my claim. That is very obvious and it is also obvious from other complaints that this is their policy. As was CLEARLY stated on the Claim Form which was completed by my physician, he did CLEARLY state that at the time of purchase of my insurance on June 26, 2014 I was able to travel. He also CLEARLY indicated on this same Claim Form that he advised me to cancel this trip on June 30, 2014 and also advised that he did not perform an examination on that date. Nothing has been presented to Travel Guard that was not clearly accurate and truthful. The very fact that they have strung this claim along and continue to ask me to jump through hoops in providing additional medical information after having received this form from a Board Certified physician certifying that yes I was indeed able to travel when booking and when purchasing insurance but that my condition worsened and became bronchits to the state that I was then unable to travel and after receiving medical records from this same physician. It is obvious that Travel Guard is deliberately extending this matter in order to impede my claim and to perhaps encourage me to forego my claim. Their travel insurance appears to be a scam and con and others should be made aware of their inability to make a claim and have it paid timely or in fact at all. I purchased this insurance in good faith and I expected the company to honor the claim in the same respect. I made a demand to them on September 26, 2014 to pay the claim within ten (10) days which they have not done. I respectfully request your assistance in this regard and in making sure that it is public knowledge that Travel Guard does not honor its claims. Payment of the $383.69 claim was demanded. I have had no further response from them and did not expect that I would - their approach is to hope that the claim goes away. Review: On August 11, 2014, I submitted a claim to Travel Guard under policy # [redacted] on behalf myself and my wife, which I had purchased in January 2014 for travel between July 1st, 2014 and July 11th, 2014, for Trip Cancellation resulting from the death of my wife's grandmother. The total claim amount covered the charges we incurred as a result of having to re-book flights through both [redacted] and LAN Airlines - in total we claimed $1422.74 or $711.37 per person. Our coverage for the policy states that we are eligible for $750 of coverage per person in the event of Trip Cancellation - however, we were only paid $250 total or $125 per person, as Travel Guard will only pay for the change fees we incurred for changing our [redacted] flights. The information relayed to us both via the policy documentation and via the Travel Guard claim specialist that we spoke to prior to changing our travel was that all of our travel should be covered in the policy for the dates covered, regardless of the supplier.Desired Settlement: We would like Travel Guard to pay the difference between what they initially paid ($250) and the full amount of the claim ($1422.74) for a total of $1172.74. I refused, explaining to them that I supplied all of the appropriate documentation in the past. They then turned the matter over to Summit Account Resolution, a collections agency. Review: We had to cancel our trip because our daughter was sick and potentially could be hospitalized. When I filed the claim for our travel insurance I waited for several weeks for a response. After calling for every day for over a week unable to speak to an actual person in the "Quality Assurance" department I reached an agent who explained that my claim was denied based on the doctors notes and that is all she would tell me. I asked how that would cause the claim to be denied and she said that our policy was not in effect when our daughter became ill, which is not true and the doctors notes do not say anything about prior illness of which their was none and I have documentation from regular check ups that I turned in as well showing she was in perfect health until the day before our travel. I have spent the last week calling every day, never able to reach a person in the "Quality Assurance" department and everyone else at Travel guard says I have to speak to that department and they cannot help me. I have left numerous messages daily and emails, none of which have been returned, except for one automatically generated email.Desired Settlement: I would like our claim of $4,255.56 to be paid by the insurance company as our claim fell within all the requirements of the contract. There is a reason for so many terrible reviews,it’s my experience that you just as well not have any travel insurance if you buy from Travel Guard .I’m disappointed in Expedia for offering this company. Customer service non existent, they have a call center that is of no use, A total waste of time and money. I will be a little smarter next time to stay away from Travel Guard and Expedia. I would give them zero stars if I could.

Sun country kept delaying our flight. They delayed it by 3 hours with no guarantee that there wouldn't be further delays. I live 5.5 hours from the airport I needed to fly into and I had transportation arranged for one night only to pick me up. I had to quickly book a flight on delta and cancel my sun country flight. I spoke to a travel guard rep before doing this and gave them all the info as to why I needed to cancel my flight, and the rep thanked me and said that he would get the claim submitted for me.
