Compass Rose Carryon Size Packing Cubes: Slim Size Cubes | Medium Size Cubes

How to Organize Travel Plus Size Clothes

Packing organizers such as the Compass Rose packing cubes can help you pack faster and more efficiently. Each item has its own home, making it easier to put your unpacked bag back together to fly home or move on to the next stop in your destination. Our cubes ease the process even further because they’re numbered and color-coded, helping you locate and pack clothing quickly.

And now the Compass Rose packing cubes are offered in two sizes: slim and medium! The slim size cubes measure 13″ x 5″ x 2.8″, and the medium size cubes measure 2.8 x 13 x 8.5. Both fit an international carry on suitcase, and the medium size is great for bulkier items or items you may want to fold too. You can use them as the original set or mix and match them in whatever way works best for your trip! For example, you can use a slim cube and then add a medium cube for your packing purposes.

For a soft side suitcase, you can place packing cubes on top of each other, and in a hard suitcase, you can place them next to each other or stack them like shelves with the Compass Rose cubes.

In fact, check out the video below on the strategy I use with packing cubes, which allows me and thousands of women to travel carry on only!

Watch this video to start learning how to organize with packing cubes!

I also put together a five-part YouTube series showing you the different methods to use packing cubes for any kind of trip.

I appreciate this post a lot! It can be so hard to find plus-size clothes that not only fit but are great quality AND functional for travel. It’s so frustrating when packing lists only have links for brands that go to “XL” max (and then the “XL” is the size of a normal L). Traveling while plus size is hard, and posts like this make it more accessible. Thank you!

Crystal

Joy Porter Drennan

Because if this article, I felt more comfortable packing. Additionally, I ordered a Wool& dress and have not looked back. My closet is transitioning to natural fibers…especially merino wool. My first introduction to merino wool was your suggestion of the J. Crew Tippi sweater. Wish they still stocked it…mine finally wore out after 100s of trips.

Ann Smith

Thank you so much for this information and for your ongoing efforts for inclusivity of all types of travelers.

The Best Travel Clothes for Curvy Women

Ok ladies, let’s talk travel wear. The strappy dresses, string bikinis, and pretty convertible tops that seem to be featured on every packing list, round-up, and Instagram feed. Yes, they are adorable. And I’m sure they look amazing on many women. However, as a curvy girl who is often caught between regular and plus sizes, I regularly find that these ‘perfect travel clothes’ really aren’t the best travel clothes for curvy women.

More often or not, when I look at these ‘must have’ lists  I end up mentally knocking off half the items because they won’t look good on my figure. Only to find out that those that I think might actually work on my body come in limited sizes. It’s a pain in the butt. Just because I’m curvy doesn’t mean I don’t want pretty clothes. I deserve to feel good in a swimsuit. I want to look cute in my photos. And I know I’m not the only one feeling left out when it comes to travel fashion, but the fact is that plus size travel clothing is hard to find.

Thankfully there are some brilliant brands that recognize that women of all shapes and sizes like to travel and look good while doing it. So from one curvy traveller to another, here are my recommendations for the best travel clothes for curvy women.

Best Convertible Travel Wear for Curvy Women

Convertible clothing and capsule wardrobes are perfect for travel, especially since airlines are getting so strict with luggage. And while many brands offer these types of designs, most of them target those with slimmer figures who are willing to show more skin. Personally, that’s not my style, which is why I love the chic and elegant designs from Diane Kroe.

Diane Kroe Origami Top

Diane Kroe offers a range of items from shirts to dresses to pants, all of which can be worn multiple ways. My first two Diane Kroe pieces were the  Origami Top (above) and the Carry On Cozy , both of which I love. Both pieces transformed into multiple looks as tops and dresses. They washed and wore well, and were very obviously a quality make. Plus, I loved how they looked and felt on. The Origami top is perfect for dressier events and I love the Carry On Cozy for the plane and for having on hand to cover up my shoulders in more conservative places like temples.

I have since added a few more Diane Kroe pieces to my wardrobe including the butterfly wrap and Mariposa kaftan which are lightweight coverups perfect for the beach or to cover up a little more at more conservative sites. I took my butterfly wrap with me to Egypt and used my Mariposa over my swimsuits in French Polynesia.

Diane Kroe is a Canadian brand based in Toronto. All clothing is created in-house by staff, and custom orders are accepted. Pieces can be ordered online at: https://dianekroe.com and regular sizes run from 2-20 (US sizing) but custom orders are welcome, making it one of the best plus size travel clothing choices. Worldwide shipping is available.  Use code HANNAH10 to save 10% off your purchase!

Best Casual Travel Essentials for Curvy Women

If you have been following me for a while and paid attention to my photos you might have noticed that, for the past few years, I have worn the same black t-shirt on every single trip I take. It’s the encircled Evolve Top and it’s easily my favourite t-shirt. The sleeves are adjustable to give it different looks, it’s a bit dressier than a normal t-shirt, and it washes and wears SO well.

I have also recently fallen in love with their Dressy Sweatpant pants which are cuter than leggings but as comfortable as PJs and can be dressed up for down. I have also declared them the ultimate airplane pants because they are super comfortable, cute, and, while not thick, provide a bit of warmth. And yes, they have pockets! They also come with me on every trip.

Best Dresses for Curvy Bodies

While I used to be a tomboy as a child, I am now 100% a dress girl. Part of it is because I think they are so pretty, part of it is because it is so easy, and part of it is because I found a brand that has a huge collection of styles and colours that fit my body really well. The brand is  City Chic and I have a closet full of their dresses right now.

City Chic Dress

City Chic has stores in the USA and Australia but does offer shipping abroad. As a Canadian, I can sometimes find their products at The Bay, but the best selection by far is online on the official City Chic website. They have dresses for every occasion and in a variety of styles so whether you want something loose and flowy or tight to hug your curves, you’ll find options here. City Chic is made for mid and plus size women so their sizing goes from size 12 (XXS) t0 24 (XXL).

Another cute place for size inclusive dresses (xs-4x) is Cherry Velvet . This brand is Canadian and create vintage, pin-up style pieces that are super cute and can be fun to travel with as well (although you might need to iron them before wearing!).

Best Jeans for Curvy Women

travel vest womens plus size

I hate buying jeans. I have thick thighs and a big butt and a smaller waist and nothing ever seems to fit properly. However, on suggestion from some friends I finally tried American Eagle curvy jeans and immediately bought three pairs. These are the only jeans I have found (so far) that actually work for my body. They have all kinds of styles but, being a millennial (who also lives in Canada where you want to be able to tuck your pants into winter boots) I’m partial to the skinny jean. The Ne(x)t level ones are super stretchy and comfortable. Recently I’m also loving the wide leg dreamy drop styles which are super soft and actually comfortable. American Eagle offers sizes up to 24 and a variety of inseam lengths.

Best Leggings for Curvy Women

travel vest womens plus size

Like jeans, I struggled to find leggings that fit me well. Again, the whole smaller waist and bigger bottom led to lots of fit problems. Usually, waist bands sliding down which meant every time I hiked/walked/worked out I would have to stop to pull up my pants. I tried all kinds of brands and styles before landing on one very specific pair from lululemon: The Wunder Train tights. They don’t fall down and they aren’t see through and I cannot recommend them enough. Lululemon currently carries up to a size 20 but keep in mind the fit on their leggings is very different than jean size. I wear 18 jeans and 12 in these lululemon leggings, so keep that in mind when figuring out sizing!

Best Travel Swimsuits for Curvy Women

travel vest womens plus size

Swimsuits and wetsuits have been one of my biggest pet peeves as a water love and scuba diver. Especially when, on top of travel, I live on a lake at home in Canada during the summer months. I’ve tried tons of swimsuit brands over the years and have several favourites. In fact I created a whole blog post about my favourite swim-wear brands. You can find it here.

Best Travel Outwear for Plus Size Women

Outerwear can be another pain in the butt to buy, but being Canadian I have to have several different coats for the different seasons. I’ve bought coats from plenty of brands throughout the years, but when it comes to keeping warm or dry, my favourite brand is Columbia.

travel vest womens plus size

I currently have two Columbia jackets; a warm winter one perfect for those -40C days (yes, I said -40C. Welcome to Canada) and a lightweight waterproof rain coat. The raincoat is perfect for travel because it folds up into its own pocket, is lightweight, breathable, and most importantly: it is waterproof.

Columbia products can easily be found in sporting stores as well as online on amazon. The raincoat I’m wearing above can be found here.

Best Anti-Theft Pieces for Curvy Women

As a solo female traveller, I think that Clever Travel Companion is one of the coolest clothing lines out there. Their products; which range from underwear to pants to tank tops to hoodies, are all pickpocket proof. Secret pockets that are perfect for cash, passport, and banking cards keep your important items safe and concealed.

Clever Travel Companion

While the colours and designs may be plain and simple, the designs are flattering. I tried out their travel tank with 2 secret pockets a couple years ago and it’s now a staple in my luggage. Check out my review for it here .

Clever Travel Companion clothing can be ordered online at: clevertravelcompanion.com . They will ship around the world, and sizes run from XS-XXXL.

Great post. I found many of the sites suggested very intriguing. I will definitely be adding to my travel wardrobe. With the checked bag fees and carry-on space crush I need to minimize my travel gear.

These brands are all lightweight and pack easy as well! I love them all and take them with me everywhere.

I’m traveling to Ireland and was excited for your post but most things listed are no longer available. Super bummed.

Not sure what you mean? I just checked them all and the only thing currently unavailable is the Lululemon leggings I recommend. I’ve been keeping an eye on them since Christmas and I’m not sure if they are just out of stock or being discontinued. I have ordered a new style to try and it should be coming next week- will share if I love them. But everything else I’ve listed is available.

So refreshing to read some tips for us curvy girls!

I thought it was about time 😉 I’m not the only one!

I think you did an excellent job by covering the topic of travel outfits for curvy women without compromising their chic style

Yassss thank you!! As a fellow curvy girl I know it can be extra challenging to find clothes that are comfortable and functional enough for travel. Some awesome ideas here I’m def going to try out!

Yes! I am so grateful to have found these brands so happy to share with my fellow curvy travellers 😉

some really great suggestions here Hannah. I split my (only pair) trousers on our trip to Australia. Couldn’t face trying to replace them to patch job and how for the best. Can’t predict all drama when travelling!

Oh god thats my fear when I go to Asia haha

That’s my biggest fear. My sister and I are going to Thailand later this month and we’re both 6′ tall so if our pants or shoes give out we are S.O.L.

haha yeah sometimes its worth it to pack extra 😉

Side note, good for you for putting a swimwear shot up. I took some shots in Bangkok at a swish infinity pool and haven’t yet found the confidence to share them publicly. Bravo curvy sister, bravo.

haha thanks 🙂

How do you find the Cherry Velvet dresses, in terms of wrinkling? I have four or five of them, but hadn’t really thought about taking them travelling, as I thought that they’d just wrinkle up, and I usually stay in hostels that don’t have irons readily available!!

I am starting to love SweetLegs — I just wish that they were a natural fibre, as I usually try to avoid the synthetics in the crotch area, especially in the hot sweaty summer! But I definitely ordered a bunch today with their 20% off sale this weekend:)

Definitely checking out the other suggestions here!

I find if I hang my cherry velvet dresses over a door or in a closet it helps get the wrinkles out. Can also hang it in the bathroom when you shower- the steam will help 🙂

I love Eddie Bauer’s Girl on the Go insulated trench. It stands up to all sorts of weather. I’ve worn it in pouring rain in summer without the lining and stayed dry, and in the snow and wind in winter with the lining and have stayed warm. It’s low profile enough for city travel.

Good to know! I have a couple things from EB but they only carry plus online (with ridiculous shipping) or in the USA.

I found this site yesterday and love it! My husband is very uninterested in traveling outside of North America and I can’t contain my wanderlust anymore. When you travel solo, do you try to keep it down to a large carry on for most trips or do you check your bags every time?

Thanks Dana! It depends on how long and where I’m travelling. For 1-3 weeks I do carry ons. But when I do multi-month trips I tend to check my bags.

I just found your site and really enjoy it. Great pictures!

One of my favorite travel pieces is the Columbia Pardon My Trench. It’s a belted jacket with trench detailing and a hood and zip up pockets. It’s sleek enough to work in a city but sturdy enough for light hiking, trekking. And it fold up very small. Runs up to 3X.

Columbia have awesome coats

Glad I found this post! Planning a 3 week trip to Italy and Greece (includes a 12 day cruise). I’m sure your suggestions and websites will help me. Great to see fellow Canadian suggestions too.

ooh fun! Definitely check out Diane Kroe pieces for that! The convertible aspects will help you pack lighter + her clothes are beautiful.

Thanks for these ideas. One cmpany I like for clothing is Blue Sky. Available online or in person in BC, this company makes bamboo clothing in real people sizes. I especially like their skort which is knee length with pockets. It can be dressed up or down. My travel wardrobe is almost 100% Blue Sky.

I’ll have to check them out. Thanks!

Thank you so much, thanks to you I’ve found cute swimdresses and city chic was awesome for me!

Yay! glad to help

Thank so much for this article. I will definitely be checking out all of these sites!

Happy to help!

[…] My journey towards self-acceptance and body positivity has been one hell of an adventure but it’s incredible how much has changed over the past few years. I enjoy checking myself out in the mirrors that I used to avoid. I buy more form-fitting clothing, I have a drawer filled full of swimsuits, including multiple bikinis, and I feel adorable in sundresses. (PS: You can find my picks for curvy-friendly travel clothing here) […]

I love your sandals. Where are the from

The gold ones? Birkenstocks!

Curvy and plus, fine, but I am also TALL. Almost impossible to find the combo. Most talls only add leg length and do not add to rise.

Have you tried American Eagle curvy jeans? I’ve tried them since I wrote this and they are now my new favourite. They come in a taller length and my friend who is 6 feet LOVES them

[…] For more of my clothing picks, checking out my list of the best travel clothing for curvy women.  […]

Please expand to include those of us above 24/3X. I’m glad the industry is starting to be more inclusive, but apparently they think travel and life stops at size 22/24. It’s even worse if you happen to be short (like me) or tall.

Some brands on this list to go to larger sizes but, agree, the sad fact is a lot of brands don’t. I continue to update this list as I can to be inclusive but I also focus on highlighting brands that I know and use and trust. I don’t just list random brands because they offer certain sizes.

Looking for lightweight dresses. Love some of the ones you wear. But have been bitten with shipping to Canada. When you order to Canada and have delivered by DHL do you get a charge from them to clear customs plus the customs cost? When I looked it up, it looked like a 13% customs fee. Worth shipping to Canada if on sale?

yes the shipping and duty can be brutal. I try to keep anything purchased from abroad under $100 to avoid the duty fees!

Hi, I’ve been reading a lot of information about good travel wear for curvy, larger ladies and one thing I’m having trouble finding is anyone discussing good bras for those skinny strap dresses and tops. I would love someone to give me some insight.

I live in Alberta, Canada so it would helpful to have some information on bras I can purchase in Canadian funds. Thank you.

My go to is Dessee brand (Penningtons carries them). They have a convertible bra that works really well for me. I usually go strapless under my thin-strapped dresses.

Table of Contents

Your body is perfect just the way it is and there is nothing more important than dressing to make yourself feel as confident as possible. You deserve to love the hell out of yourself and your vacation.

As a plus-size woman and an avid traveler, I’m no stranger to the last minute packing panic – the overpacking, the panic buying, the ability to spend almost as much on the clothes as the trip itself, the worries, the fears and the ‘maybe I shouldn’t go’ moments – but at the end of it all, the trip is always worth it.

Carry On Backpacks

Pack for trips of one week or more without checking a bag.

  • Thick comfortable straps
  • Easy to organize
  • Durable, waterproof fabric
  • Backed by our Worldwide Warranty

Travel is for everyone and with growing movements to make travel more inclusive like #fatgirlstraveling and #plussizetraveltoo, there is no better time to shrug off your worries and take that trip you’ve always dreamt of.

So, off the back off my most recent 7-month trip around Africa, Asia and the United States, here are my top tips for finding your stress free travel wardrobe as a plus-sized woman.

clothing plus

Two Points, Before We Start:

1. Larger clothes = more material

There is no escaping the fact that larger clothes take up more room, and that means taking fewer items. ‘Multi-purpose’ is the name of the game here ladies.

2. It’s not impossible to buy plus size clothes all over the world, but it’s not always easy.

News Flash: Fat people exist in every country! But not every country has easily accessible plus size clothing stores, so it’s worth spending the time to properly plan what you pack so you don’t get caught short.

Get the Foundations Right

(if you only have time to read one section of this article, make it this one) .

The three following items are the holy trinity of plus-size travel packing , I promise you, they could make or break your trip.

The Unmentionables

Underwear , love it or loathe it, just don’t skip over thinking about it when you’re planning what to pack.

Having the wrong underwear that makes you feel uncomfortable, like bras that chafe in hot weather or knickers that don’t stay up when you move around, will totally distract you from living your best vacation life.

Hands up if you swell up in hot weather like me? Breathable and moister-wicking undies will be your best friend for comfort, keeping cool, and tp help to prevent skin irritations that occur in warm & wet environments.

Chub Rub

Traveling usually means moving your body more, and moving your body more can lead to chafing, ranging from the uncomfortable to the downright painful, especially in tropical climates that are hot and humid.

Luckily, there are a lot of precautions you can take to prevent chub rub from ruining your trip.

Applying anti-chafing creams, baby powder and even deodorant to potentially affected areas will help but for the dreaded thigh rub, I opt for wearing some thin cotton biker-style shorts under skirts and dresses. Find a colour that best matches your skin tone if you’re self-conscious about them showing (but don’t worry, my shorts have been the envy of my fellow every-size travelers all over the world!)

Shoes, Glorious Shoes

We’ve established that travel usually means more movement and more movement means more work for your feet. Take it from a fat girl who didn’t pack properly supporting shoes and spent months recovering from painful Plantar Fasciitis, shoes are important!

Hiking sandals are now my go-to travel shoe. They offer great support, are often water-friendly (for all that island hopping you’ll be doing) and will take you on just about any terrain. All this, as well as being lightweight and allowing your feet to breathe. There are even brands like Chaco and Teva that are mixing all this high-tech with style, so there’s no excuse to be walking around in flip-flops .

Before You Pack:

Buying plus size clothing is tricky at the best of times, add travel, new activities and unfamiliar climates into the mix and it can feel overwhelming. Take a little time to plan out what you need, what you already have that’ll do the job and decide if there are any pieces you need to pick up.

Here’s my fool-proof checklist:

Double and triple check the climate of the places you’re visiting, this is easier when it’s one or two places but bear in mind that the same country can have multiple climates. For example, when I visited Jordan last Spring, the capital, Amman, was a chilly 6C but just 2 hours away, at the Dead Sea, it was a steamy 30C!

Plan out all the activities you definitely want to do, as well as those you’d like to try out, so you can pack for them. This can be everything from a fancy dinner and sightseeing to a snorkelling trip or hiking! This will help you to realistically plan how many ‘specialist’ outfits you’ll need.

Length of Time

Plan out no more than one week of outfits! One of the BIGGEST mistakes travellers make is overpacking. In reality, you will wear everything a couple of times and if you’re going away for longer than a week or so, you’ll want to do laundry.

Check Out Local Customs

Sometimes you have to cover up your shoulders, knees and hair, or take off your shoes in order to be respectful of local religions and customs. Make sure you know ahead of time what to expect so there are no tricky moments.

A friend and I visited a beautiful old Mosque in Kuala Lumpur this year. I had researched and knew that I’d be required to cover up, my friend who was wearing shorts, was asked to wear a one-size-fits-all cover-up upon arrival but as I was dressed appropriately, I didn’t have to worry about fitting into it!

Plus Sized Travel Clothes Brands

It’s one thing to bite the bullet and promise yourself that on this vacation you’re going to hike to a waterfall, but it’s another thing entirely to make sure you have the right clothing. Here is a collection of my tried and tested plus-size inclusive clothing brands.

For Activewear

Fabletics is my go-to for cute & inclusive activewear, whether that’s for hiking, yoga or travel days (yes, I’m a yoga pants 24/7 kind of girl).

As of January 2020, their size range will go up to a US size 22-24 (4X) making it one of the most inclusive sportswear brands out there.

I’ve mentioned them before, but they’re so good they get a second shout out, Chaco and Teva are two brands you HAVE to check out for supportive vacation footwear. Both brands stock wider widths too.

For Swimwear

With the inclusion of lines by plus size style icons Gabi Fresh & Ashley Graham, as well as sizes ranging from US 4 – 32, SwimsuitsForAll is the place to find that fatkini to help you take your vacation by storm.

For Everything Else

ASOS Curve , a personal favourite of mine, goes up to a US size 26 (5X) and is a one-stop-shop for everything from panties to evening gowns (I’m not kidding). Other store options I can recommend include Boohoo , SheIn & Old Navy.

Plus Sized Travel Clothing: What to Pack

Lightweight, breathable, quick-drying and wrinkle-free materials.

These fabrics are your best friends, especially when shopping for plus size tropical vacation clothes!

Rayon & Polyester get a bad rap but in my experience are cool, durable and extremely suitcase friendly (read: make great plus size, wrinkle-free travel clothing, nobody likes ironing!)

But what about cotton, I hear you ask? While cotton is comfortable and breathable making it one of the best hot-weather materials, it creases like nobody’s business and can be weighed down by the moisture it absorbs, so if you love cotton, opt for a cotton-polyester blend for the best of both worlds.

Multi-Purpose Items

To help you save on space (remember, with larger clothes = fewer options) pack items that do double duty.

Sarongs are amazing multi-purpose space savers, great for everything from beach coverups & beach towels to an extra layer on a cool flight, a headscarf to keep the sun off your scalp and a way of covering your shoulders & knees at religious sights.

Day-to-night clothing is a must. Prioritize pieces that can be dressed up or down easily with a few accessories – a simple dress in the day paired with your newly purchased hiking sandals can turn into a party dress by night by adding a long necklace, some lipstick and your designated pair of ‘night-time’ sandals.

Make the Most of Your Airport Outfit

Deciding on your plus size airport outfit can be tricky, but here are my tips!

Comfort over everything! I usually opt for my leggings and an oversized tunic or sweatshirt. Dressing smartly will not get you a free upgrade, but might make you uncomfortable.

If you’re traveling to more than one destination, don’t wear your heaviest/bulkiest clothing – I know, I know, you think I’m crazy for saying that! But hear me out – that clothing has to fit in your bag at some point, right? I made the terrible mistake of flying from the UK in the winter wearing my jeans and sweatshirt and arriving in Egypt to 25C+ heat. I never wore my jeans again on the 7-month long trip and they became a huge burden because they just didn’t fit in my bag!

Pack for Comfort, Whatever That Means to You

I love dresses. I live in dresses, sleep in dresses, hell, I even hike in dresses. So when I listened to all the people telling me to take trousers on my latest and longest round-the-world-trip, I should’ve known it was a terrible idea. I ended up mailing my trousers home and searching high and low for shops that stocked my size so I could buy more dresses. Moral of the story? You know what clothes make you most comfortable, so pack those.

You’ll be stuck with those clothes for the rest of your trip so this is not the time to experiment!

Above All Else, Pack for Confidence!

Will a Swimdress make you feel 100% more confident on the beach?

Will having your favorite dress make you enjoy your trip even more?

Then girl, rock it.

Your body is perfect just the way it is and there is nothing more important than dressing to make yourself feel as confident as possible. You deserve to love the hell out of yourself and your vacation. Take the time to plan, research your destination and remember, if you’re having a blast, no one, not even you, will care what you’re wearing.

The Best Wrinkle-Free Women’s Clothes for Travel, According to Frequent Fliers

Relaxed Air Travel

You’ve tried packing cubes and rolling your shirts up Marie Kondo –style and yet, most likely, all your clothes still come out of your suitcase wrinkled when you reach your destination. Or maybe you have an important meeting right after landing , and your once-polished outfit looks rumpled after hours in economy . Like other travel dilemmas — finding a bag that’ll fit under the seat in front of you or trying to sleep on a transcontinental flight — arriving with a suitcase full of wrinkly clothes can be solved. To avoid pricey hotel dry-cleaning services, or risky sessions with your in-room ironing board, we asked nine women in the travel business to recommend the best pieces to wear and pack while you’re away.

Best wrinkle-free pants for travel

Eileen Fisher Ankle Length Straight Pants with Gathered Waist

For travel pants that are comfortable, stylish and low-maintenance, Jeralyn Gerba, co-founder and editorial director of Fathom , likes easy pieces from Eileen Fisher . “She’s known for researching and developing materials that are responsible, sustainable, and high-performance while also being crazy chic,” says Gerba. “I love her uncrushable Tencel, a tree fiber textile produced with near zero waste — the drawstring pants and blazers look really good after long-haul flights.” The adjustable drawstring allows for in-flight comfort while the textured crepe lends them a sophisticated look.

Athleta Skyline Pant

A similar pair at a lower price point, these slim, drawstring pants are a favorite of Sarah Corsa, a trip designer at Journy . She likes that they’re “lightweight and rarely wrinkle.” Gerba also looks to Athleta for “casual basics with the occasional flair,” and says their athleisure pieces offer “a nice alternative to the straight-up sweats uniform” while traveling.

Outdoor Voices RecTrek Pant

Outdoor Voices, makers of our favorite “sleek and tailored” sweatpants, are another frequent flier go-to for easy-to-wear pieces that’ll look fresh after a long journey. Journy co-founder Leiti Hsu, calls the RekTrek pants “the ultimate in comfort.” She says they “stay crisp from laundry cycle to laundry cycle” and “look way more pulled-together than yoga pants.”

The Row Tao Straight-Leg Stretch-Cotton Pants

“I have a few pairs of stretchy but tailored trousers from The Row that are incredibly comfortable and easy to pack,” says Jen Rubio, co-founder and chief-brand officer of Away . They’ll give an outfit more polish than a jogger-type pant while still being wrinkle-resistant and non-constricting on long flights. Rubio says she’ll pair hers with a T-shirt and leather jacket.

Betabrand Dress Pant Yoga Pants

Based in San Francisco, the clothing start-up Betabrand sells pieces based on crowd-sourced designs, like these trouser-style pants that come highly recommended by Larissa Hayden, deputy director of events at Atlas Obscura . She likes that they’re crafted “with comfort, durability, and professionalism in mind,” and have all the comfort of stretchy sweats.

Best wrinkle-free leggings for travel

American Eagle High-Waisted Jegging

If you’d rather go the leggings route, Melissa Hie of Girl Eat World swears these jeggings “look exactly like jeans but are very stretchy and comfortable like leggings.” She says, “I would just pair this with a comfortable button-up shirt if I need to look somewhat put together straight off the plane.”

Calzedonia Thermal Leather-Effect Leggings

For leggings that can be dressed up, Hsu likes this expensive-looking (but actually quite affordable) faux -leather pair. “Tuck them in your carry-on for a sexy go-to that [can go from] day to dinner in any city,” she says. “They’re secretly lined with cozy fleece on the inside; all the better to brave your next winter dining adventure.”

Best wrinkle-free tops for travel

Uniqlo Rayon Long-Sleeve Blouse

Travelers love Uniqlo’s affordable and durable pieces for comfort and style. Hie says their button-downs are perfect for wearing with leggings to easily look put-together. And while she normally prefers natural fabrics, when it comes to travel she says, “I go with polyester-blend fabrics since they don’t wrinkle as much.” Like polyester, rayon is far more wrinkle-resistant than cotton or linen.

Loft Ruffle Henley Utility Blouse

Also polyester, but with a silky feel and sweet ruffle details, this packable top is one of Corsa’s favorites. “It can be worn in basically any climate, for tons of occasions,” she says. “It never wrinkles and still looks new after years.”

Uniqlo Heattech Turtleneck Long-Sleeve T-Shirt

Gerba calls Uniqlo’s warming Heattech turtleneck, an essential layering piece for cold-weather travel or even ice-cold planes, “basic, but solid.” In warmer climates, Stephanie Park, co-founder and vice-president of operations at Journy, likes the brand’s AIRism line. “Not only do the breathable base layers release heat and moisture to adapt to different weather conditions, but they also remain remarkably wrinkle-free, even after long flights,” she says.

Theory Bringam Crepe Top

According to Rubio, Theory’s “crepe knits will never wrinkle, no matter how much of an overpacker you are,” which is good news if you need to look professional right after a red-eye flight.

Best wrinkle-free dresses for travel

Love, Bonito Reiley A-Line Dress

Simple, packable slip dresses were called out by several travelers as highly versatile items. Hie opts for colorful ones from Singapore-based, women-founded brand Love, Bonito. “They are made out of a polyester blend and [don’t] t get wrinkled even if they are straight out of the suitcase,” she says. “I love them because they are very basic, which means I can pair them with accessories to dress them up or down.”

Nili Lotan Silk Slipdress

Rubio counts her black Nili Lotan slip dress as ones of her perfect travel pieces that’s “practical and comfortable, yet stylish and versatile so that my look can easily transition from day to night.” She’ll wear it with a blazer and loafers on the plane, and switch to boots once she lands. And while it may seem like a fussy pick, Gerba says she frequently packs silk because “it looks good, weighs nothing, and its wrinkles fall out easily.”

Everlane Japanese GoWeave Tank Wrap Dress

For a fraction of the price, Journy trip designer Lauren Witte likes this bright Everlane wrap dress which, she says, is also “made out of wrinkle-resistant fabric,” and can work for both casual and dressier events.

Wolford Asymmetric Dress

If slip dresses aren’t your style, Hsu says she’s “obsessed with Wolford’s selection of stretchy dresses that roll up almost as tiny as hosiery.” Since it takes up barely any space she says they’re the ideal “just-in-case” dresses to pack if the need to dress up arises, and she calls her simple, black sheath “a lifesaver.”

Best wrinkle-free layers for travel

Eileen Fisher Stand-Collar Open Blazer

Like the Eileen Fisher pants recommended by Gerba, this blazer is made of Tencel and can withstand long flights and not-so-tidy packing. Plus, as several of our travel pros noted, blazers play well with basics like lightweight tops and cami dresses, giving you some mix-and-match outfits for your journey without having to overpack.

Loro Piana Cashmere Fringe-Trim Opera Stole

“A black versatile cashmere wrap is a must-have for my busy travel schedule,” says Elizabeth Fuller, director of marketing and partnerships at Black Tomato . “It doubles as a blanket on a chilly flight and won’t wrinkle if you stow it in your carry on to go through security.” She likes the very elegant. fringed Loro Piano version, but if you’re on a budget, the under-$100 silk-blended wrap from cashmere startup Naadam will also do the trick.

Reformation Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater

Like Fuller, Hsu thinks quality cashmere is a worthwhile travel investment. “Compared with other fabrics, cashmere doesn’t require washing all that often and is naturally temperature moderating,” she says, making it a natural fit for an on-the-go lifestyle. Her favorites are classic cuts with unique details from brands like Reformation and Rag & Bone .

5 Best Women’s Travel Vest for Style, Comfort & Safer Travel

List of Best Womens Travel Vests and Reviews

For women travelers, especially solo travelers or moms with children, safety and security are always front and center in your mind . There are countless horror stories of lost or stolen luggage, documents, purses or other significant personal items during travel. Like everything else, there is no foolproof way to secure all of your items 100% of the time.

But there are steps you can take to protect yourself and your belongings when traveling through busy cities and transit areas, including keeping the items you treasure most close to vest, quite literally! It may not seem the most fashionable choice at first glance, but I think we can work with it ladies. Follow me to hear about the best women’s travel vest.

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. FIND OUT MORE IN MY   DISCLAIMER .

Introducing the Women’s Travel Vest

Yes, I am talking about investing in a women’s travel vest with hidden pockets for your most important documents and devices that you would be utterly lost without during travel. Most of the best travel vests are designed to be lightweight and ergonomic so you can easily grab items at the point of need without being weighed down .

Graphic depicting items carried in travel jacket

Savvy travelers may even be able to ditch their purse entirely and rely upon the pockets provided by a well-designed, lightweight travel vest with pockets. For me, I like to wear yoga pants basically everywhere and as you know, yoga pants are comfortable but they never have pockets !

In fact, I’d say that most of my daily outfits have a curious lack of pockets altogether, so it is useful to have at least one piece to depend on that has ample pockets when my activities demand it. This may sound crazy, but I have even heard of moms leaving the diaper bag at home and packing baby essentials up in the pockets of a travel vest!

But most importantly, travel vests are designed for security . You have heard of lost luggage by an airline company or even purse grabbing, but have you ever heard of vest snatching? No, of course not – you and your travel vest are one single package. By simply using a women’s vest for travel, you can keep your passport safe and close to your body, as well as your phone, keys, wallet, jewelry, medicine and anything else of significance.

A Game-Changer

Ladies, a travel vest has the potential to be a real game-changer, and potentially a life-saver when you are out on the road. The easy part is deciding that a travel vest may be right for you. If you travel frequently through airports or train stations, or if you spend a lot of time visiting different cities by yourself or with your family, then you should strongly consider it. If you just think it would be awesome to open your vest and expose a world full of trinkets and gadgets, then you definitely need one!

inspiring woman solo traveler looking into beautiful desert canyon

The harder part is deciding which travel vest might be right for you to fit your own personal style and travel needs. Luckily, there are many great multi pocket vests designed specifically for women travelers including safari vests, utility vests, photographer vests, and hiking vests. They go by many different names, but all basically serve the same function. But true travel vests typically have 14, 24, or even up to 42 different sized multifunctional pockets, as well as other little extras like an inflatable travel pillow, RFID protection, or huge pockets for a tablet or computer.

Our travel vest reviews highlight the most important features to consider including style, function, weight and durability. Our goal here is to help you find a vest or jacket that fits your individual style, is comfortable and easy to use, and that will be something you can depend on through many travel adventures.

3 Tips for choosing a travel vest

  • Size up – if you plan to use your vest for long duration travel or airplane travel and want to replace your purse or carry on luggage, plan to get a size or two above your regular size . The fit will be less chic and may appear undesirably bulky for some, but it may be the only way to fit all your gear comfortably. Be sure to read reviews to get an idea of how much to size up.
  • Pockets, pockets, pockets – what sets a travel vest apart from regular clothing is really the overall design with multiple pockets to hold a variety of travel items . You should consider which items you really will plan to carry on your person and make sure your travel vest has the requisite pocket space. On the flip side, if you don’t plan to carry a large tablet or water bottle, then you don’t need to sacrifice form-fitting style for a bulkier vest to accommodate these larger items.
  • Don’t be tricked – into getting a vest with a few extra pockets and pass it off as a travel vest. Travel vests are designed to keep your items secure with zippers, organized with multiple sized pockets, and easy to access with everything right under your vest.

Best Travel Vest for Most Travelers

Scottevest review: women’s rfid travel vest.

The SCOTTeVEST RFID Womens Travel Vest is a great choice that will fit most travelers. It has 18 different sized pockets to hold a vast variety of gear including several pocket types that are distinct for SCOTTeVEST products like the RFID pocket for protection of credit card information, the clear touch pocket so you can use your smartphone without having to remove it, and the oversized PadPocket which is large enough to hold an iPad or comparably sized tablet or computer. The fabric is treated with Teflon and made for durability and comfort. The fabric is breathable, machine washable, and resistant to wrinkles from stashing in your suitcase over night. SCOTTeVEST products are designed with travelers in mind, and they tend to employ an effective weight management system so the vest or jacket doesn’t get too unwieldy, even when filled with gear. The style is chic and straightforward and the curves will appeal to most users. Users also compliment the quality and durability of materials used to construct this vest, so it will be clearly something you can pack up for many travel adventures.

Perfect for:

City travel, Airplane travel, Adventure Travel, Jogging, Hiking, Running Errands

Why you will love it:

  • High quality construction and materials you can depend on
  • Maintains attractive style even when stashing lots of items
  • The features and number of pockets will suit needs of most travelers

Room for improvement:

  • Be careful about sizing, users claim that it tends to run smaller than expected
  • Vest can become overly bulky if you truly utilize all the compartments
  • Some users complain about the main front zipper being difficult at times

Super Versatile Travel Vest

Exofficio review: women’s flyq lite vest.

The  ExOfficio Women’s FlyQ Lite Travel Vest has 11 interior pockets including a chapstick slot, pen slot, and pockets designed for smartphone, camera, water bottle, sunglasses, keys and passport. This amount of cargo space will fit the needs of many light travelers and joggers/hikers. The 100% nylon outer fabric is protected by Teflon shield+, and the microfleece collar will keep you warm and comfortable. This vest is notable for its lightweight and comfortable design, which is has extra length and a bungee cinch to keep things fitting well. This cute travel vest has a pretty sleek design that is suitable for many different outdoor uses.

Light travel, City travel, Airplane travel, Jogging, Hiking

  • Is machine washable and comfortable for many different body styles
  • It has enough pockets to store essential travel items and documents securely
  • Well designed layout of interior pockets for easy and efficient access
  • May want to size up if you plan to store bulky items
  • The phone pocket is too small for some larger smart phones
  • There are only two front pockets so most storage is inside

Best Travel Vest for Serious Travelers

Scottevest review: women’s q.u.e.s.t travel vest.

The SCOTTeVEST QUEST Travel Vest is the ultimate vest designed for the most avid traveler adventurers and photographers with 42, yes you read that right, 42 different pockets! Like the other SCOTTeVEST, this one has the patented PadPocket to store an iPad-sized tablet, clear touch pocket for visibility of smartphone when stored, and personal area network of cords running subtly through the fabric to keep everything connected and charging. The QUEST travel vest also has a hood stowed away in a zippered compartment and a giant back pocket to quickly stash larger items like photography gear. The fabric has Teflon and is designed for resistance to water, stains and wrinkles, because you never know what will happen out on the road. The sheer number of pockets will be too much for light travelers, but is unique on the market for its capacity and versatility.

Any travel including photography and long distance or duration

  • Despite all the pockets, the design is rather appealing and not too bulky
  • Super high quality, durability and versatility to fit almost anyone’s needs
  • The number of pockets may be too much for everyday use
  • The style is less chic and more serious travel adventurer
  • The black outer fabric can attract lint or other little fuzzies
  • (and don’t forget to size up!)

Best Travel Vest on a Budget

Columbia review: women’s world trekker vest.

The Columbia Women’s World Trekker Vest is the no-frills budget option designed for lighter travel, days out running errands, or going on a jog or hike. It only has two inside pockets, but they are decent sized and one is zippered and the other has velcro for a measure of security for travel documents, keys and phone. It does have 4 exterior pockets so you can actually pack a decent amount of gear into this travel vest. The outer fabric is not luxurious, but is well made and will get the job done. The omni-shield fabric is water repellant and the interior has a mesh lining. I wouldn’t give the Trekker vest the highest points for fashion-ability, but it is a good option at a lower price point.

Perfect for:

light travel, hiking, running errands

  • Price – this is the most affordable vest on the list
  • A comfortable option for everyday use with small gadgets
  • Outer pockets not ideal for security of phone or valuable items
  • Odd shape to fit for some women with larger chest and/or hips
  • Designed less for long travel and more for hiking or around town

Not a Vest but You'll Love it Anyways!

Scottevest review: chloe glow travel jacket.

No, strictly speaking, the SCOTTeVEST Chloe Glow Travel Jacket is not a vest, but it is a super cute travel jacket with hidden pockets that will perform all the same functions as the travel vests reviewed  above. This makes it more desirable for colder weather adventures, and the blend of cotton/polyester/spandex is designed for smooth, stretchy comfort anywhere you take it. I think it is very stylish and versatile and I would happily wear this sweatshirt around town without packing it up with any travel gear. But for the traveler, it is great to know that it has 18 different pockets including the customary SCOTTeVEST PadPocket for a full-size tablet. It has the patented personal area network to keep devices connected inside the fabric of the vest, as well as water bottle loop, key holder, earbud holder, change pocket, passport pocket and more. Users also report highly on the fit, design, quality of fabric and comfort in wearing this travel sweatshirt.

Jogging, hiking, air travel, city travel, light travel, running errands

  • It has a hood and thumb holes in the sleeve for versatility on the go
  • Even loaded with items, the spandex design still gives a nice fit
  • The perfect clothing for the frequent jogger or hiker
  • Definitely runs small, so you need to size up at least one size
  • When filled with large items like iPad, it can fit a little odd and bulky
  • Pretty snug in the chest area, not designed for women with larger bust size

That’s a Wrap!

There are so many female travelers out there that haven’t even heard of a travel vest or they haven’t considered one because they associate them with safari vests or utility vests. But with today’s travel vests designed for women, you don’t really have to sacrifice style for function. Personally, I find it so useful to have a wardrobe item that can potentially replace my purse, or even my diaper bag in a pinch. It gives me comfort to think that my keys, passport, phone and devices will be secure and with me at all times while traveling to a new location. It is primarily for this reason that female solo travelers and family travelers should really think about investing in their first travel vest.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why Trust T+L

Travel + Leisure / Jackie Cucco

A travel wardrobe is different from a regular wardrobe. How so? It should include comfy, breathable pieces made of stretchy, flexible fabrics while also being versatile, layerable, and suitable for different activities, climates, and occasions.

Finding items that check all the boxes can be challenging. To make it easy, we’ve rounded up the best travel clothing brands that carry casual, professional, weather-friendly, and active pieces alike.

The Travel + Leisure team not only trusts these featured brands but has also personally tried many of their best-selling, highly rated clothes, outerwear, and shoes firsthand. We used our extensive apparel testing process — and frequent trips — to come up with the best places to shop online for all types of travelers.

Best Athleisure: Alo

The brand's active-meets-casual pieces are just the thing for travel days and sporty weekend looks.

You'll mostly find athletic and loungewear clothing, but there are some good trousers and knitwear items, too.

Alo is technically a yoga apparel brand, but we can't get enough of its excellent athleisure while at home and on the go, too. Whether we're planning a workout or power walking through a new city on vacation, we reach for the brand's tanks, joggers, and active dresses time and time again.

We especially love Alo's 7/8 High-waist Airlift Legging on account of its extra-wide waistband and soft fabric that lifts and sculpts your curves. When going for a more laid-back look, we'd rock the slouchy Accolade Sweatpant with a pair of sneakers. The brand has also expanded its offerings to include things like work-ready trousers , knit sweaters , sleek bodysuits , and day-to-night dresses for times when loungewear simply won't do.

And, when temperatures drop, we can't help but reach for the Foxy Sherpa Jacket which is "extremely comfortable, warm, and cozy," according to testing editor Jackie Cucco. "This is a high-quality jacket that has held up well after five months of use, making it worth the price," she adds.

Travel + Leisure / Jackie Cucco

Best for Capsule Wardrobes: Everlane

Its impressive collection of classy, neutral, travel-ready clothes are easy to mix and match.

The brand has some colder-weather pieces available, but likely won't be your best bet for temperature extremes.

Everlane carries a mostly seasonless collection of travel-ready apparel, including everyday crewnecks , elegant tops , and on-trend jeans . The minimalist designs are great whether you're packing light or dipping your toe into the capsule wardrobe concept, as it's easy to mix and match the mostly neutral palette.

The Dream Pant is a go-to pick and has gotten us through a 12-hour day while away and a full day at the office without wrinkling, making it an ideal pair to wear just about anywhere. Another favorite is The Easy Pant , which proved to be incredibly comfy even after one of us was caught in a 4-hour flight delay and left snuggling on airport seats at 12 a.m.

We also love the versatility of many of the brand's basics, especially when it comes to layering. One standout is The ReNew Long Liner which has made several coast-to-coast trips and compresses seamlessly. "Although the jacket is quite long, I was floored at how easy it was to pack it down into a packing cube or small corner of my carry-on bag," associate editor Anna Popp says.

Travel + Leisure / Anna Popp

Best Value: Quince

Quince works directly with factories to offer lower prices on luxury items without any middlemen.

The many cashmere and silk items are machine washable, but the brand still recommends hand washing.

Quince is a relatively new clothing brand but has gained a loyal following since its 2020 launch. When you browse the site, you'll find pieces made from premium materials, like supersoft cashmere , natural silk , and sustainable linen with prices that may surprise you. There's even a chart on each product page that breaks down exactly how the brand keeps costs so low. Despite the price, these high-quality, multi-season garments are meant to last. In fact, Quince also has an almost unheard-of 365-day return window to back things up.

It's hard to beat the $50 Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater , which is the perfect weight to wear on a chilly summer night and to layer as temperatures drop. We're also big fans of the Washable Stretch Silk Blouse because it's not only machine washable, but it can also easily serve as a multipurpose nice top when packing light for a weekend away.

When it comes to one must-pack item for all summer trips, our hands-down favorite is the comfortable and versatile 100% European Linen Smocked Midi Dress (which several members of our team own). "I've worn it in every situation from plane rides to exploring new cities, as a beach cover-up, and as work attire," editor Taylor Fox shares. "It matches with just about everything and I love that I can dress it up with a pair of wedges or go for a more casual look with a cute pair of sneakers."

Travel + Leisure / Tiffany Salter

Best Size-inclusive: Girlfriend Collective

Many styles run from XXS to 6XL, plus they're made of stretchy, flexible fabrics that won't wrinkle in your suitcase.

The brand suggests using a wash bag or microfiber filter when washing and hanging items to dry.

Girlfriend Collective has one of the most inclusive size ranges out there — many of its styles come in 11 sizes, running from XXS to 6XL. The brand carries fitness apparel from sports bras to tennis dresses along with a wide range of relaxed joggers and full-length windbreakers – all stretchy, breathable, wrinkle-resistant, and packable. Most items are made of fabrics sourced from recycled plastic bottles, and you can even recycle the pieces you're done wearing through the ReGirlfriend program.

The brand's Compressive Pocket Legging is a stellar choice for travel. We like how the soft yet sturdy fabric holds you in without restricting movement, and the deep side pockets are big enough for a phone or passport. We also approve of the brand's many bodysuits , such as the Marlow High Neck Bodysuit (with an option of a brief or thong bottom) as this shirt style can match nearly any vacation wardrobe.

Travel + Leisure / Stormy Miller

Most Versatile: Spanx

Spanx offers thoughtfully designed clothing items you can wear while traveling, to work, and on weekends, with many styles offered in regular, short, and tall lengths.

Many items come in limited colors, but the selection is getting broader.

Spanx is almost synonymous with shapewear. The brand carries a comprehensive selection of undergarments that hold you in, smooth certain areas, and enhance your curves — think high-rise underwear, compressive shorts, sleek camis. However, they bring that classic design to clothes you can — and want to — wear on the outside, too. We love that there's core-smoothing in their workout clothes (like the Booty Boost Active Leggings ) and going-out pieces including the Suit Yourself Boat Neck Ribbed Bodysuit which we love as a sleek long-sleeve shirt you can style many ways.

Beyond the fitted items, the brand's made-for-travel AirEssentials Collection will remain the first answer many of us give when asked what's the best material to wear on a long flight . It can be found in a range of styles from sleep-ready half-zip sweatshirts to full-length jumpsuits that we've even worn out with heels.

And, while it may not be the first brand you think of when it comes to work attire, we're here to tell you otherwise as The Perfect Pant is simply perfect at looking like pants but feeling like pajamas. "After a full day at the office, they were so comfortable, I didn't immediately want to change out of them when I returned home either," associate editorial director Morgan Ashley Parker shares.

Travel + Leisure / Morgan Ashley Parker

Best for Hiking: Patagonia

This outdoor apparel brand has all types of hiking clothes, from pocketed pants and shorts to layering pieces and weather-ready, stuffable outerwear.

Patagonia doesn't make hiking shoes or boots.

If you're planning a hiking trip, Patagonia likely has almost all the apparel you need. We're talking sweat-wicking layering pieces , pocketed rain pants and shorts, packable puffer coats , and quick-dry socks .

Of course, we'd not be able to discuss this brand without mentioning the always-trending Baggies shorts which come in a variety of colors with inseams ranging from 2.5 inches up to seven inches long .

We've also tested the Women's Chambeau Rock Pants and love the elastic waistband, adjustable cuffs, ample pockets, silky-soft fabric, and true-to-size fit. The material is also breathable and stretchy, preventing you from overheating while offering a full range of movement on the trail. These pants did a great job repelling water, too, so you can definitely wear them on a drizzly day at your destination.

Best Outerwear: Columbia

Columbia makes a myriad of weather-ready pieces, like vests, pullovers, stuffable puffers, rain jackets, and windbreakers.

The outerwear options are more for outdoor activities than professional or formal occasions.

Columbia has been making outdoor apparel and accessories for nearly a century. When you shop the collections, you'll find everything from sun-protective clothing to camping gear . However, the brand really stands out for its outerwear offerings, which include fleece pullovers , insulated vests , down jackets , and ski pants . Some options like the Heavenly Hooded Jacket feature Omni-Heat technology, a foil-like lining that essentially reflects your body heat back onto itself to keep you toasty when the temperatures drop while others are three jackets in one with a liner and a shell that can each be worn separately or paired together on trips where temperatures may vary drastically.

We've tested out much of their outerwear and clothing over the years — and Columbia also remains one of our favorite hiking boot brands — but our favorite item would have to be the Carson Pass Interchange Jacket . We were thoroughly impressed with its warmth and how easy it was to layer over various shirts, including bulkier sweatshirts. What's more, it has fleece-lined pockets, sleeves with thumbholes, and a hood that actually stays in place when you put it on.

Travel + Leisure / Maria Rowella

Best Swimwear: Andie

The brand has bikinis and one-pieces in a range of fits and coverage options, including long-torso styles and various bottom cuts.

Some styles may not fit or be supportive enough on larger chests, and only one bikini style goes up to DD.

Andie is a prime place to shop for swimsuits. The brand is known for its well-made one-pieces with flattering cuts and comfortable designs that don't require constant adjusting — including options for long torsos and plus-size bodies . You'll also find bikinis, cover-ups, and various other travel accessories like towels for women, like hats, sunglasses, and beach bags.

We love that you can opt for a plunging one piece or one with a higher neckline , and choose from a range of bikini types, including The Bermuda Bikini Top offered in a range of colors and fabrics up to size DD. You'll also find other beach accessories like colorful sarongs , gauzy minidresses , and palazzo pants .

Of all the styles we've tried, the The Amalfi One Piece tops our list as our favorite one-piece swimsuit . We fell in love with the thick, durable ribbed fabric. It's exceptionally comfy, even when soaking wet, and dries quickly, so you're never soaking wet for long. Though the thin straps may not be supportive enough for those with large chests, we appreciate that you can choose from three coverage options on the bottom: medium, cheeky, or full.

Travel + Leisure / Frances Crouter

Our in-depth testing process for clothing involves carefully inspecting the garments, assessing the materials, trying them on to evaluate the fit, and wearing them for various activities for multiple hours at a time. We rate apparel based on factors such as fit, comfort, breathability, moisture resistance, stretch, durability, care requirements, and overall value. The results for this article were compiled from multiple team members who used each brand's products in real-life settings, often for ongoing, months-long periods.

Tips for Buying Travel Clothing

Choose versatile items.

When buying travel clothes, look for versatile pieces you can dress up or down, mix and match with different outfits, and wear on numerous occasions. Like a capsule wardrobe , this will allow you to pack fewer items and re-wear certain garments. The best apparel for travel is also suitable for multiple seasons, meaning you can layer pieces under or over it for cooler or warmer weather.

Look for travel-friendly features

We recommend prioritizing odor-resistant, breathable, and wrinkle-resistant materials, such as wool, cashmere, lyocell, performance fabrics, and cotton blends containing a stretchy fiber, like spandex or elastane. Some fabrics have built-in sun protection listed as UPF (ultraviolet protection factor).

You'll also be glad to have clothing with pockets. These will come in handy on travel days when you need to quickly stash your phone, boarding pass, ID, or cards. Strategically placed pockets can also allow you to forgo a purse or backpack (or at least bring a smaller one) on some outings.

The best material for travel clothing is stretchy, breathable, and moisture-wicking, meaning it'll draw sweat away from your body to prevent you from overheating. It should also be wrinkle-resistant, so you can pack it in your suitcase without worrying about creases. Fabrics that check all the boxes include wool, cashmere, lyocell, some cotton blends, and performance fabrics.

While you have lots of options for what to wear on a plane, it’s most important to be comfortable and able to move freely, with layers you can take off or throw on if you get hot or cold. Sweats or joggers are a great choice, as is athleisure or a matching loungewear set . Some people prefer flying in a loose maxi dress whereas others like stretchy jeans or trousers with a simple tee or long-sleeve top. No matter what you wear, we'd recommend bringing a warmer layer like a crewneck sweater, half-zip sweatshirt, or button-down flannel since the cabin can get chilly.

travel vest womens plus size

I love this vest. I bought it for an up coming trip and can't wait to put it to use.

What I like so far is the look, fit and quality of the vest. It is exactly what I needed.

I am typically a sm/md and bought the M. it fits perfectly, with room for a light sweater underneath.

Hard to find good quality anything these days. Thank you SCOTTeVEST for your integrity in your product.

Wish it came in a earthy green color. I bought the black.

In general, I love the Scottevest. However, even though I ordered a size larger than I generally wear, it probably will not fit me once I use the larger pockets. Other than that, it is great. Please warn purchasers that the sizing runs small.

I purchased this as a birthday gift for a friend. She has a big trip planned in the near future and this seemed perfect. She absolutely loved it and said it was the best gift ever. The pockets are perfectly sized for a variety of items, but not so many that it would be too heavy. I purchased the red and it looks great on her.

High quality, nice looking.

I decided to give it a try! I love the vest and look forward to wearing it often!

best travel outfits for women on oprah daily

Our editors handpick the products that we feature. We may earn commission from the links on this page.

When it comes to travel, we know you need to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. After all, it’s great to look put together while hopping on a flight, but not at the cost of your comfort—especially on long-haul trips. Rest assured, we've curated a list of wardrobe essentials to achieve flawless travel and airport outfits, whether you are exploring a new destination for business or pleasure.

If you're going on a chill weekend getaway with your girlfriends or partner, try out cozy and cool sweat sets because they don’t require any thought and are still stylish. Plus, they come in all sizes, so there’s a fit no matter if you're curvy and plus size or petite, or simply somewhere in the middle. Comfortable travel dresses can be dressed up or down depending on where your journey takes you.

When it comes to the best travel outfits for women, accessories play a critical role in keeping you comfy and organized. All you have to do is remember a comfortable pair of shoes , compression socks to keep things moving, an eye mask that's an upgrade from the one the airline provides, and a chic shawl that doubles as a blanket. And of course, no travel outfit would be complete without a fashionable (and functional!) carry-on bag on your arm or atop your luggage . This bag should house all your essentials and still level up your airport outfit. Keep reading for some of the best travel and airport outfit ideas for your next trip.
