AGX Golf Clubs Review – Are They Any Good, Who Makes Them?

ax tour golf

American Golfing Exchange (AGX) golf clubs have been on the market for a few decades now and offer new golfers the chance to get a full range of clubs at a very affordable price.

Let’s find out a little more about what AGX clubs are all about.

Intro To The Story And Selling Points Of AGX Golf Clubs

Golf’s soaring popularity has necessitated the need for clubs that help beginners improve their game.

Sure, we probably all started with borrowed clubs when we played our first round, but the more you play, the better you want to get, and that’s where entry-level clubs like those offered by AGX come in.

They aren’t going to cost top dollar like the clubs a pro will use, and while they definitely aren’t as technologically advanced, they can help casual golfers shoot lower scores, that’s for sure.

History Of AGX Golf Clubs

According to their website, AGX has been around since 1998, mostly offering an online portal where golfers from around the United States can order a range of golfing equipment.

Initially, however, the company wasn’t known as AGX but as GolfBallX.

The AGX brand appeared from around 2008 onward, so it isn’t some fly-by-night operation.

Who Makes AGX Golf Clubs, Where Are They Made And Who Is The Owner?

AGX golf clubs are made by the AGX company.

There’s no overseas manufacturer involved, as with many other cheaper golf brands.

While AGX sells their equipment mostly online, they do have a physical store in Milford, Michigan, which is also where the company offices are located.

AGX golfing equipment is manufactured in Howell, Michigan, 22 miles from the company headquarters.

The company is owned by Bob Proven.

Good Clubs? Good Brand? What Handicap Range?

So if you are a beginner golfer or one who doesn’t play that regularly but would like to improve your game, would AGX clubs be a good choice?

For sure, they are well made, easily available in the United States, and offer all the clubs you need to fill your bag.

These aren’t world-beaters, but they are steady clubs that would be a worthy choice as a first set of full clubs for any casual golfer.

The important thing here is that AGX has been around for a while now, so you can do your research into what they offer, what other casual golfers think about them and make your decisions from there.

As for handicap range, these clubs are aimed at high-handicap golfers who are looking to improve their game by buying equipment that’s better than the old hand-me-downs they might have or ancient clubs they bought in a yard sale.

Quick Facts Table

  • The AGX brand has been around since 2008
  • They are sold only at one store location but mostly online through the AGX website as well as other resellers, like Amazon
  • AGX clubs include sets, perfect for those new to the game
  • AGX equipment is manufactured to extremely high standards

Selling points

  • Stainless steel construction

The AXG Golf Men’s Magnum Golf Club Set comes with a driver, fairway wood, utility iron, 4,6, and 8 irons, a pitching wedge, and a putter.

While it’s not a full set, it certainly provides a range of clubs that are often used out on the course.

Each club is extremely well made from stainless steel and is available in two lengths: regular or tall.

The driver has a 460cc head with an extremely large sweet spot and proved to be fairly forgiving, even with less consistent contact.

Its length off the tee was impressive too.

The utility iron is perfect for thick rough, and tight lies, while the irons, like the driver, are extremely forgiving as well as accurate.

Overall, for their price range, the feel and quality of these clubs are extremely impressive.

 Selling points

  • A set of clubs built with senior players in mind
  • 10 clubs in total
  • Lightweight design with graphite shafts

These clubs include a driver, a three-wood, a hybrid, 5,6,7,8 and 9 irons, as well as a pitching wedge and putter.

Overall, the construction of these alloy steel clubs is excellent, while the addition of graphite shafts further adds to their lightweight design, which is perfect for older players.

The irons include a cavity back design and are extremely accurate, even for those who have a less-than-consistent swing, thanks to their large sweet spot.

Perimeter weighting also allows for maximum length when using longer irons.

These clubs are aimed at seniors who have recently taken up the game of golf and who want to buy their first set of clubs or even those who are returning to the game after many years and want a more modern set than they currently own.

  • Lightweight, well-constructed set of golf clubs

Modern iron design sees most sets these days being single length, and that was the core design idea behind this set available from AGX Golf.

Usually, these single length irons are expensive, but that’s not the case with this set. As with everything AGX Golf offers, affordability is key.

Again, these are aimed at medium to high handicap golfers looking to lower their scores, and thanks to their cavity back design, large stainless steel heads, and bigger sweet spot, they certainly will help.

In the set, you will find 4–9 irons, a pitch wedge, and a sand wedge, each with a wide sole design.

Perimeter weighted design provides excellent balance and feel, while “Speed Sole Technology” promotes high launch characteristics.

This set includes a driver, three-wood, hybrid, irons (6-9), pitching wedge, and putter.

From a performance perspective, these clubs will help you improve your golf game if you are someone who plays casually.

Their excellent construction and durability make them a set of clubs you will use for an extended period too.

  • Made from titanium with graphite shafts to reduce weight
  • Looks good in the bag, but it’s durable too

LAGP Tour AXS RED Shaft Review

  • on December 4, 2020

50 Words or Less

The LAGP Tour AXS RED shaft is the middle child of the new line, which isn’t a bad thing.  Stable with mid launch and spin.

ax tour golf

Introduction

In this review, I’m taking a look at the Tour AXS RED, the third shaft in the new LAGP Tour AXS line.  Where the BLU is designed for the aggressive swingers who need low launch and spin and the WHT is meant for players seeking more elevation, the RED is for the majority of the golfers who need something in the middle.

With so many wild colors in the shaft market, it’s easy to forget that a white shaft with bold graphics still looks awesome.  The red LAGP logo and TOUR AXS branding explode off the stark white background making for a striking yet classic look .  Incorporating the “rain” graphics inside the word “TOUR” is a great nod to the shaft’s heritage.

The underside of the Tour AXS looks blank at first glance, but a closer look reveals something else.  On each of the LAGP Tour AXS shafts, the model name – in this case “RED” – is written in white-on-white.  This is a clever choice that allows for more branding without creating distractions at address.

ax tour golf

It’s important to note here, as I will again in the Performance section, that LA Golf Shafts is not using the standard color to characteristics pairings we see in most shafts.  In the Tour AXS line, WHT is the high launching model, RED is mid launching model , and the low launching shaft is BLU.

As you would expect, the Tour AXS RED delivers a feel that is somewhere in between the super stable BLU and the very active WHT.  The RED did load and kick on every swing , but it felt like it loaded more when I put more into it.  Surprisingly, the bend point felt higher on the RED than the BLU.  With the RED, I felt the kick just below the grip.

ax tour golf

Performance

Another reminder: in the Tour AXS line, the RED is the mid launch, mid spin model .  Also, the Tour AXS shafts are a unique case in that you can compare the launch monitor numbers of the different models apples-to-apples.  Do note that the WHT is a 50-S, the other two are 60-X.  The review of the LAGP Tour AXS BLU is HERE and the WHT is HERE .

Just as with the feel, the performance of the Tour AXS RED fits neatly in between the BLU and WHT, though, for me, it leaned closer to the BLU.  The difference in launch and spin between the RED and BLU was barely noticeable on the range, though it was clear on the launch monitor.  Based on the ball flight and distance I was seeing, I could have been very happy putting either shaft in play .

ax tour golf

Similarly, I found the Tour AXS RED to be quite accurate and predictable .  On every good swing, and the majority of swings overall, the RED produced the ball flight I expected without much curve.  The one area where – for me – it was surpassed by the BLU was in handling all-out swings.  When I swung 110%, the added kick of the RED led to a couple ugly hooks where the BLU was never phased.

The LA Golf Shafts Tour AXS RED shaft comes in two weight categories: 50 and 60 grams.  At 50 grams, the shaft is available in regular and stiff flex.  The 60 gram version is available in regular, stiff, and X-flex.

ax tour golf

If you want a shaft that strikes a balance between all the things you want – stability and kick, launch and spin – check out the LA Golf Shaft Tour AXS RED.  I was impressed by the way it combines a smooth feel with predictability, and I think you will be, too.

The pro: smoltz, bettis, modano headline new golf tour for pro athletes.

It’s no secret that many professional athletes turn to golf to fuel their competitive fire after their playing careers come to an end.

Any golf fan who’s watched the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship on the shores of Lake Tahoe or various pro-am tournaments has likely debated which of the big four U.S. sport leagues has the best golfers.

Is it Major League Baseball, where starting pitchers are known for honing their skills on the links between starts? Is it the NFL, where placekickers have been known to carry over their accuracy to the fairways and greens? Maybe it’s the NHL, where the physics of the hockey slapshot seem to carry over well to the golf swing. Or is it the NBA, where height and a deft touch help with both power off the tee and a silky putting stroke?

A new competitive golf tournament series – The Pro Rivals Open, or more simply, THE PRO — is seeking to answer that question by bringing together current and former players from the four leagues, with events designed specifically for athletes and sports legends seeking the experience of a professionally-run golf event.

The new league kicks off in less than three months, with the inaugural PRO CUP at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida, scheduled for Dec. 9-14.

The league’s respective teams will be led by baseball Hall-of-Famer John Smoltz (MLB), Super Bowl champion Jerome Bettis (NFL), hockey Hall-of-Famer Mike Modano (NHL), and 14-year NBA guard and current ESPN Radio lead analyst Jon Barry (NBA). The full rosters for the first event, which includes 12-player teams, will be announced this fall.

The series starts with the Ryder Cup-style match play competition between teams from the four leagues and then will feature four sport-specific golf tournaments spanning the next year to crown the best player from each of the sports. Those three-day stroke-play events are expected to have 54-player fields and will be scheduled to conflict as little as possible with the seasons for the various professional leagues.

“Golf is a great sport, but it's an individual sport,” Smoltz said in an interview. “Whenever you can get together and have a team competition, much like the Ryder Cup, President's Cup and some of the other things, it's what everybody in the four sports that are getting together has been part of. It’s really going to be a great, great tour, and I’m so glad to be a part of it.”

Sites for the other four tournaments that follow the PRO CUP will be announced later, with the events scheduled to run between March and December 2025.

THE PRO was created by Pure Sports Holdings and is managed by ETZEL, an experiential events and marketing agency.

Traditional tournament weeks will include two early week practice rounds, a midweek Pro-Am, and then three days of competition.

The PRO CUP at Innisbrook, which regularly hosts the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship on its Copperhead Course, will have a tournament Pro-Am that pairs four amateur players with one professional athlete. Competition rounds will be open to the public, with daily and weekly tickets available for purchase.

The purse for THE PRO CUP is $372,000, with prize money distributed based on team performance. Purses for sport-specific tournaments in 2025 will be in a similar range. In addition, proceeds from tournament revenue will go to tournament charity partners within each community.

“Each sport will have its own tournament in its offseason,” the 57-year-old Smoltz said. “We're kicking it off as the Ryder Cup (type event). And then each year we'll end with a Ryder Cup. We're introducing the tour this way because it gives it the best showcase for what's to come.”

Highlights from the various events will be shared on the fledgling league’s website and social media channels. THE PRO is also in discussions with potential media partners to identify a broadcast partner for its tournaments.

“So much of celebrity golf in the past has tried to replicate, or be on par with, PGA (Tour) golfers. That's never going to be the case,” added Smoltz. “But what you're going to see is really good competition and the bantering and the opportunities to see this thing grow. I've probably secured about six to eight guys already in building my team and just getting the news and the awareness out. People are excited when they hear about the format and what the concept is going to be. There won't be many turning it down unless their calendar just won't allow it.”

Smoltz is no stranger to competitive golf. He’s been a regular on the celebrity pro-am circuit in recent years and competed in several PGA Tour Champions events as well as the 2018 U.S. Senior Open and at Q-School seeking to qualify for the senior tour.

John Smoltz hits a tee shot during the second round of the 2018 U.S. Senior Open Championship at The ... [+] Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado. (Photo by Robert Laberge/Getty Images)

“As a captain, I am probably challenged about as much as anybody in putting together the (MLB) team,” Smoltz said, noting that the individual sport tournaments will eventually lead to guaranteed spots for THE PRO CUP and its Ryder Cup-style team competition. There will also be captain’s choices for that roster. “This has so much dynamics to it, and you know it will keep getting better and better every year.”

With golf’s growing popularity, not to mention the unrest in men’s professional golf and the divide between the two tours that has jaded some golf fans, Smoltz sees a major opportunity for a new offering like THE PRO. This is especially true when it involves names that many sports fans already have connections with. Not that the pro athlete-driven league would be a competitor for the professional golf tours, but non-traditional events like The Match have drawn significant attention.

“Golf has been a conduit for a lot of things — raising money for charities and getting celebrities together for a great cause — and there's going to be component of that in this as well,” Smoltz said. “But I think what it also does is give an opportunity for people to mingle and spend time with a Hall of Famer or some of the sports figures that we will have in this tournament.”

So, which sport will walk away with bragging rights in December?

“Our (MLB) roster probably has the most depth, but with hockey you can probably make that claim as well,” Smoltz said. “But people are going to be surprised. In match play, the separation is not going to be as great as it would be if we were all playing stroke play. Then that depth would probably come out in the baseball side. But what I'm looking forward to as this rolls out in the years to come is going to be the guys that put the work in to get better. And they’re going to want to make this ‘Ryder Cup team’ no different than professional golf.”

A WORD ABOUT SHIPPING :

Typically, for items sent via USPS/UPS/FEDEX ground, the average delivery time is 4-5 BUSINESS DAYS (West Coast orders take one day longer). These estimates are based on the stated times provided by our the Shippers (Of course we cannot guarantee that the shipper will meet their commitment but they do get it done better than 99% of the time).

Please view the shipping time map at the bottom of this page to be more certain of your delivery date.

The SHIPPING DAYS shown on the map below are TRANSIT DAYS . TRANSIT DAYS start the DAY AFTER the shipper picks up your order from our warehouse! ...So for example, if the map shows 2 DAYS for DELIVERY and the Shipper picks up the order on Monday, your package should be delivered on Wednesday. *You cannot count Sunday's as Transit Days and you cannot count Saturday or Sunday as Pick-up Days). The Good News is that FEDEX and the USPS will deliver on SATURDAY. And Nearly 90% of our orders are sent by those two shippers. DP World Tour pro asks R&A to change rule after bad break, reignites classic Golf Twitter debate

2173144988

Andrew Redington

If you're a golfer, it's certainly happened to you at some point. You hit a perfect drive only to find that your golf ball has settled in a divot. It's a real "Screw you," from the Golf Gods. They can be real sick puppies.

Of course, unless you reguarly play with total psychopaths, you'll probably be allowed to roll your ball out of that hole. But if you're playing in an actual tournament, that's not an option. Enter Pablo Larrazabal.

RELATED: Rory McIlroy has club snap, still hits fantastic shot

The 41-year-old Spaniard was in the midst of a solid opening 71 at the BMW PGA Championship when he was the latest victim of this classic on-course bad break. Still ticked after his round, he went as far as to tweet at one of golf's main governing bodies, the R&A, to change the rule.

Hey, you gotta shoot your shot. That being said, we're pretty sure that Pablo's plea won't change this rule that has been a frequent topic of discussion among the R&A and USGA (and here's why).

But it did reignite the debate on Golf Twitter. Among the nearly 100 replies, it was a pretty even mix of people agreeing with Larrazabal:

And others telling the nine-time DP World Tour winner to suck it up:

Anyway, we feel your pain, Pablo. Well, not really, because we're not world-class tournament golfers who actually have to follow this rule, but you get the point.

Miyazaki Golf Shafts: The Best You Can Buy?

Table of Content

What are Miyazaki Golf Shafts?

Are miyazaki shafts good, how much are miyazaki shafts, what are the models in the miyazaki range, do any tour pros use miyazaki shafts, are miyazaki shafts graphite, miyazaki golf shafts for sale – where to buy, who makes miyazaki golf shafts.

If you’re in the market for a new set of shafts for your golf clubs, Miyazaki is a brand that you’ve probably come across.

But what’s the deal with Miyazaki shafts? Are they a good option? And what can you expect in terms of performance and technology?

Here, we tell you everything you need to know about Miyazaki shafts and help you decide if these leading Japanese shafts are a good option for your clubs this season.

Miyazaki shafts come from Srixon Golf and are widely regarded as some of the very best in the business. There are several models within the Miyazaki range, including Kori, Mizu, Kiri, and Kiri CB (counter-balanced), offering multiple options for players at all levels of the game.

A key component of Miyazaki shafts is Japanese carbon, which is world-renowned for its lightweight properties and exceptional strength. What’s more, Miyazaki shafts consist of design features from leading club fitters and manufacturers, bringing together years of R&D and industry expertise when fine-tuning these shafts.

Given that golfers have so many choices when it comes to selecting the ideal shaft for their game, we’ve decided to run through everything you need to know about Miyazaki golf shafts in this article.

So, read on as you consider whether Miyazaki shafts are a good option for your golf clubs and what you can expect from these high-tech Japanese golf shafts.

Trusted and played by some of the leading golfers in the world, Miyazaki golf shafts are some of the best that you can buy. Specifically, Miyazaki shafts are known to be particularly strong, which has been achieved by rotating the hoop later 90 degrees, which ensures stability and consistency through impact.

Another unique feature of Miyazaki shafts is that they are free from microscopic air pockets between the graphite layers. Miyazaki’s manufacturing process removes these air pockets, which ensures that the shafts are as strong and durable as possible.

No matter which of the Miyazaki models that you opt for, you can be assured of a golf shaft that is made to exceptionally high standards while featuring the very latest in Japanese manufacturing.

Therefore, it’s fair to say that Miyazaki shafts can help to increase your ball striking, thanks to their range of impressive design features. But how much will some new Miyazaki shafts set you back? Let’s take a look.

The cost of Miyazaki shafts depends on where you buy them from, as well as the type of shaft that you opt for. The table below gives you an idea of how much Miyazaki shafts currently retail for, subject to their availability from Mike’s Golf Outlet*:

As you can see, Miyazaki golf shafts are reasonably priced, given that some of their competitors cost significantly more than this.

As well as the price of the shafts, you will need to consider the different flex, spin, and torque options available, to ensure that you choose a shaft that is well suited to your game.

Another factor that contributes to the cost of Miyazaki golf shafts is where you get the shafts fitted to your clubs. While you can attach shafts yourself, it makes sense to ask a club fitter to work on your behalf to ensure that they are fitted to perfection.

As such, you will need to factor in the price of installation when budgeting for your new golf shafts, and this will affect the overall price of affixing Miyazaki shafts to your clubs.

As is the case with all golf shaft manufacturers, there are multiple models within the Miyazaki range for you to choose from**. Specifically, you can choose from the following Miyazaki shafts:

  • Kori – Tip stiff shaft with low spin, low launch, and max control.
  • Mizu – Pure and consistent with a mid-launch.
  • Kiri – Active tip and mid-tip sections that contribute to high launch and result in max carry.
  • Kiri CB – Active tip and counter-balanced shaft that raises the center of gravity. Ultimately, a super lightweight shaft option.

Within each of these ranges are different options relating to flex and torque, enabling you to choose the perfect Miyazaki shaft for your game. You can choose between wood, driver, and hybrid shaft options, helping you maximize control over your long game.

As every Miyazaki shaft model is slightly different, it’s important to choose an option that will help you improve your ball striking, so be sure to read the core aspects of each shaft before making your decision.

Miyazaki shafts have been popular on Tour since the early 2010s and have been played by lots of high-profile players. The likes of Keegan Bradley, Graeme McDowell, Shane Lowry, Jason Kokrak, and Jeff Overton have all played Miyazaki shafts in recent years.***

The prevalence of Miyazaki shafts on Tour means that the brand is just one of several Japanese brands that prevail at the elite level of the game, alongside the likes of Mitsubishi and Fujikura, both of which are also trusted by some of the best players on Tour.

Central to the popularity of Japanese shafts is the fact that they’re made from the very latest in precision engineering and feature outstanding materials and technology, providing golfers with the edge on the course.

The fact that Miyazaki shafts are played on Tour should give you the confidence that this is a brand worth considering if you’re looking to upgrade your shafts this golf season.

Yes, Miyazaki shafts are graphite, and they are manufactured in such a way as to ensure that there are no air pockets between the layers of graphite that make up the shafts. The result is stronger and more durable shafts that stand the test of time.

What’s more, Miyazaki shafts are made from superior Japanese carbon that is regarded for its ultra-lightweight properties without compromising on its outstanding strength. Again, this makes for high-performance shafts that possess the key attributes you would expect from the leading golf equipment.

Most players on Tour prefer the feel and consistency of graphite, and Miyazaki has delivered a compelling option for the finest players in the world.

That being said, graphite shafts are also a good option for recreational players, meaning that Miyazaki is worth considering if you’re hoping to improve your ball striking this season.

Several online retailers stock Miyazaki golf shafts, and you can buy them from various places. However, the cheapest place to buy these shafts is on eBay, where you will find well-priced options from numerous independent sellers.

However, when you buy golf shafts from eBay, you need to do your homework to make sure that you’re buying legitimate gear from established sellers, as the online marketplace has a reputation for selling fakes.

The best thing to do is to check the credentials of a seller before committing to a purchase, which you can do by checking out their reviews and details of previous transactions conducted.

Provided that you’re able to find a legitimate seller, eBay offers Miyazaki shafts at a great price, and it’s our best recommendation when it comes to locating affordable Japanese golf shafts for sale.

Miyazaki shafts are made by Japanese manufacturer SRI, the company responsible for producing Srixon and Cleveland golf clubs. Therefore, you will often see Miyazaki shafts installed on Srixon and Cleveland clubs as standard.

While Srixon is a Japanese company, it has a US base in Huntington, California, and this is where many of the brand’s golf equipment is manufactured. After all, Srixon and Cleveland enjoy huge success in the American golf market.

So, the fact that Miyazaki shafts are a product of the extremely successful SRI manufacturing company illustrates the fact that you can trust Miyazaki shafts, and they represent excellent value for money if you’re looking for high-performance golf shafts this season.

Ultimately, Miyazaki golf shafts are an extremely popular option for golfers at all levels of the game. We love their selection of shafts, and the latest in Japanese manufacturing goes into their new releases.

The fact that Miyazaki shafts are played by some of the best golfers in the world highlights the fact that you can trust these Japanese shafts, making them a great option for any golfer looking to upgrade their clubs this season.

Mitsubishi Fubuki Golf Shaft Review

Mitsubishi fubuki driver and fairway shafts, by russ ryden, a golf digest america’s 100 best clubfitter fit2score, dallas fort worth, texas.

FubukiTour

It was hard to miss noticing the Fubuki Tour on Television on Sunday afternoon. The distinctive white color is became so common it got copied by other brands. It is a variation of the White Board profile with a stiffer tip but softer mid. The second generation white board, the Diamana ‘ahina  brought in an even stiffer tip. The Fubuki Tour shaft is now often used by tour players in fairways. The profile is similiar to the Diamana ‘ahina , with a softer, higher launching tip. The Fubuki Tour will be phased out in 2014. The profile of the Fubuki K offers the same feel and loading characteristics with a slightly stiffer tip.

The softer tip of the The Fubuki Tour introduced a slightly higher launch to the popular White Board design. It is a perfect pairing for a player looking for a slightly higher launching fairway, while still retaining the feel and control of a mid stiff shaft. Like all Mitsubishi Rayon golf shafts, the profiles of the Fubuki Tour are consistent from weight to weight and flex to flex. The butt torque ranges from 4.1 in the 50R to 2.6 in the 80X.  The tip torque of the Fubuki Tour 70 and 80 x is 2.0, a great number for a fairway shaft.

Mitsubishi Fubuki Alpha

FubukiAlpha

A 2010 profile from Mitsubishi called “Acceleration Technology”. It is promoted as delivering high launch and low spin. I have found it to be a mid to low mid launching golf shaft design. I refer to this as a Kai’li on steroids. The profile is a blend of the ‘ahina and Kai’li designs.

It is available in 55 – 75 grams. Among the sub 60 gram shafts it is unique. A tour profile in a light weight shaft. The butt is not as stiff as the Kai’li and the mid is not as soft. The tip is tight in both longitudinal and radial directions. The white driver shaft you saw on TV on weekends, this was it until the Fubuki K came along. The overall torque of the Fubuki Alpha ranges from 4.1 in the 50R to 2.5 in the 80X. The Fubuki Alpha profiles are consistent from weight to weight and flex to flex. The radial profiles are excellent; the shaft can be used in any orientation. The Fubuki Alpha 65 gram is the stock shaft in the 2012 Adams Fast 12 LS driver. That makes the Adams Fast 12 LS driver a unique value proposition.

 Mitsubishi Fubuki K

FubukiK

The Fubuki K was introduced in late 2011. The MDT shaft material is enhanced with a metallic “lace” in the butt section. This creates a stable butt without having to add a lot of carbon fiber. The profile called “Acceleration Technology” by Mitsubishi is similar to the original Fubuki Tour with a slightly firmer butt and tip.

The Fubuki K, unlike the Fubuki Alpha profile, is very similar to the ‘ahina with a higher tip to butt ratio resulting is a higher launch. It is a soft tip ‘ahina. The torque ranges from 4.1 in the 50R to 2.5 in the 80X shafts. The tip torque of this shaft is among the lowest I have measured. The Fubuki K profiles are consistent from weight to weight and flex to flex. The radial profiles are excellent; this shaft can be used in any orientation. Yes, the tour version 80X is in my driver fitting system for you gorillas out there. Like the original Fubuki Tour, it is a perfect compliment to the ‘ahina as a higher launching, higher spinning fairway shaft.

As with all Mitsubishi shafts, you should see a club fitter to select the best fit of profile, weight and stiffness to your swing.

PGA Tour dreams become reality in weeks at new southern Utah golf course

ax tour golf

IVINS, Utah — The Black Desert Championship PGA Tournament in southern Utah is only 22 days away. For some, it's a dream come true to see all this come up from what was just brush and lava rock five years ago.

For one person in particular who grew up in St. George, the tournament will help achieve a dream he thought was impossible.

Jay Don Blake started playing on the PGA Tour in 1987 and ended up playing in 499 events, winning one time at San Diego's Torrey Pines in 1991.

But he always wanted to play in his 500th. No one would give him the chance, until now.

“I was aging out, thinking that this ain't gonna happen so for a while. I just almost forgot about even trying to get to that number,” Blake said. “And then all of a sudden, the stories and the talk about having an event here and I thought, 'Well, man, that's going to be kind of cool.'"

Blake has received a special exception to play in the first PGA Tour event in Utah since 1963. It begins on Oct. 9 at the new resort in Ivins, next to St. George.

There were still plenty of construction vehicles and workers throughout the site and roads were still being paved during a media tour Wednesday. But Black Desert managing partner Patrick Manning, who has spent 20 years and countless city council meetings trying to make his Black Desert vision happen, said it will be ready.

“We're definitely under the gun, but we're not under the gun to have enough done,” Manning said. “Seven restaurants will be open, we'll have a convention center, we'll have over 200 rooms open. It'll be the biggest hospitality offering in southern Utah in three weeks.”

Manning said he has been all about making impossible things happen.

Blake grew up just a mile from what is now the Black Desert Resort and remembers being an 8-year old aspiring golfer playing on the lava rock. In his wildest dreams, he never imagined he would be playing in a PGA Tour event here, let alone his 500th event.

“Nothing was there,” Blake said. “So I wandered all over the hills and valleys and the lava rock and just having fun as a kid, you know, just about a little over half a mile from here. I never thought a golf course would be here at all.”

Black Desert, along with Pebble Beach, is only one of three American courses hosting both men's and women's pro tour events. And like Pebble Beach, the scenery will be the biggest star. Manning said once the golfing world and national TV catches a glimpse at Ivins, it will be inevitable that it will become one of the top stops on the tour, and he's already made overtures to move Black Desert to a more prominent spring spot on the tour.

“These grandstands that you see out here, if we can pull this into the spring, then maybe we can leave all of this up for both the men and the women, and we don't have to put it up and take it down every six months," he said.

For those concerned about traffic issues, the plan is to have specialized parking spaces all over town where people can park and then take a shuttle to the course. They hope this will alleviate any possible traffic concerns.
