Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox to take ‘Sunday Lunch’ series on the road for 2023 tour

The couple have been performing covers from their kitchen throughout lockdown

Toyah Willcox  and her husband,  King Crimson  founder  Robert Fripp , have announced that they are taking their ‘Sunday Lunch’ series on a 2023 tour.

The pair’s long-running series was launched in 2020 due to Fripp missing playing out live as a result of the coronavirus lockdown, with a new cover performed from their kitchen going live on YouTube every Sunday lunchtime.

In recent weeks, they’ve covered  Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ ,  INXS’ ‘Devil Inside’ ,  Red Hot Chili Peppers ’  ‘Can’t Stop’ ,  The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’ ,  Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ , Garbage’s ‘I Think I’m Paranoid’ and Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’ .

The pair have now taken to Twitter to promise that they will take ‘Sunday Lunch’ on the road in 2023, with full details and venues yet to be announced.

“We are very excited to announce TOYAH AND ROBERT’S SUNDAY LUNCH TOUR 2023,” they wrote, promising that further details will arrive soon.

Last August, Willcox released her 16th studio album ‘Posh Pop’, which she previewed with the single  ‘Levitate’ featuring Simon Darlow and Bobby Willcox .

Discussing the album  in an interview with  NME , Willcox explained how it came about. “When COVID stopped everything last year, it allowed me to concentrate on writing and recording the next album,” she said. “We recorded in Simon’s outdoor studio with just him, my husband and I.

“‘Posh Pop’ was a magical experience created out of the need and ability to make contact with our fans in a heartfelt way. Also the terrifying distance between those who run the world and those on the ground inspired my writing.

She added: “Working with Fripp in the studio, we just handed him the chord charts the day before and said: ‘We want you to come in and improvise and that’s what we’ll use’. It was spontaneous.”

I saw toyah pre covid on a very rainy night at night people a small club in Manchester. She was brilliant. She put so much into her performance, leaping around and full of energy. I got the impression that she gives her all whether she is performing to 150 people or 150,000. I’ve seen her since at Liverpool Phil with HRH Lord Fripp. Amazing. In between songs, Frippy spotted a lad on the front row with a king crimson “red” t-shirt and teasingly launched into the opening bars. There’s no ego here with either toyah or her hubby, just a great performance and toyah performing as if her life depended on it.

Her later solo stuff is brilliant and it’s just a shame that the music world these days is all downloads of rap and dance. If she has released “in the court of the crimson queen” in the eighties, it would have shot to number 1. The single was amazing.

Take my recommendation and go and see her, you won’t regret it.

Oh, and she doesn’t charge crazy prices either

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Toyah live, bought the tickets as a birthday present for my Mum. I've liked her from the 80s and am so happy I've finally seen her live. She was on top form with her vocals sounding better than I thought she would, she also had a seemingly endless supply of energy which boomed through the crowd.

The set list was cleverly picked and was truly amazing.

Toyah looked great and her vocals were fabulous. She still had an edge and the crowd were treated with all her classics as well as some new songs. Toyah interacted with the crowd in between intervals which pleased us all as we waited a while to see her.

Although an 80s star, her songs still seem as fresh and inspiring as when they were first released, blending implausible lyrics together with truly emotive and almost heart thumping melodies. Toyah is for sure a must see gig for anyone. Highly recommended.

If seeing a class 80s act is next on your bucket list then Toyah is the woman for you.

Not good at writing reviews.I was told by a music friend that "Sir Fripp's wife" has a band and they are playing in London. How come I hadn't heard about the Humans!!! one of my greatest live experiences ever.2 Bass guitars by Chris Wong and Bill Rieflin whom I could not wait to see playing Drum! I am preparing myself for a 2 nights King Crimson live on September,( certainly a dream will come true),and didn't have any clue that Bill is a GENIUS, I know him first from his collaboration with Treyy Gun and Robert Fripp at a masterpiece album called " Repercussions of angelic behaviour" and you can say one of the greatest drummers ever.AND TOYAH, brilliant voice,such a character she is. the gig was last night and today I listened to their new album "Strange Tales" for my 3rd time.IMPRESSIVE,

Excellent, intermate outdoor gig with lots of energy. Toyah was very personable, effervescent and carries the audience with her tight and powerful vocals. Supported by an acoustic guitar, small drums and keyboard this was a fantastic summers evening in Chester. Toyah sang old and. new material with a spattering of covers which suited her vocal range and her punk/new wave background and included; "I love Rock n Roll", "Rebel Yell", "Echo Beach" and "These boots are made for walking". Toyah started the set with the fantastic "Good morning Universe"

Brilliant is all I can say.

Well arrived at 6.30pm waited outside till 7.35 door was opened. Toyah arrived on stage at 8ish and we sang, we laughed, we cheered and we wanted more. Toyah was trully excellent she sang most of her hits plus some oldies and the new track 'Sensational'. the venue itself has cross road parking, one level from entrance to stage so excellent for disabled lile me.eaay place to find next to the bus station. my.name is Riky and i enjoyed tha venue and Toyah's show.

Toyah was brilliant but one couldn't expect anymore from this great artist she just gets better with age like a good wine the crowd loved her was only a small venue of may less than 300 people but felt like it was at Wembley she gave it her all was a total pleasure been in the presence of this truly great singer song writer long may she carry on bringing joy to her fans

Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp have officially announced their “Sunday Lunch Rock Party Tour,” set to travel throughout the UK this fall. The outing will serve as a celebration of the married couple’s viral “Sunday Lunch” YouTube series.

While most of the dates have been posted for a while now, Toyah and Robert shared details of the tour in a new press release. “We are so excited to be bringing our new Rock Party show to towns and cities across the UK,” stated Toyah. “This will be a rock show, with a full rock band — an uplifting party of a show. Be ready to party, be ready to dance, be ready for some serious vocals from me and some serious rock guitar from Robert!”

The month-long tour kicks off September 30th in Wimborne, England, and runs through an October 29th in Birmingham, England. Tickets are available here .

Toyah turned 65 on Thursday (May 18th), an occasion Heavy Consequence celebrated with a list of the couple’s 10 best “Sunday Lunch” performances .

For the past three years, Toyah, a popular UK new wave singer in the ’80s, and Robert, the founding guitarist of legendary prog band King Crimson , have been entertaining millions on YouTube with their frisky covers of rock and metal songs each Sunday. The famous pair have now been married for 37 years.

In a career spanning more than 45 years, Willcox has won multiple awards for singing and acting, had 12 Top 75 singles (‘It’s A Mystery’, ‘I Want To Be Free’), released over 25 albums, written 2 books, appeared in over 40 stage plays and over 20 feature films, and even been a voice artist on Teletubbies. She has also been called one of the most influential women in rock.

Composer, record producer and author, Fripp is best known as the guitarist, founder and continuing member of legendary rock band King Crimson. St. Petersburg – a Historical Gem

The city has witnessed some of the most dramatic and important moments in Russian history since its founding in 1703 by Peter the Great , making the city especially important for curious travelers coming to Russia. St. Petersburg was the scene of the Decembrist uprising , the famous court of Tsarina Catherine the Great , the assassination of Tsar Pavel and Alexander II and the home of Rasputin , the Siberian mystic. St Petersburg is a spectacular city regardless of the time of year, it all depends on your itinerary. Summertime can be wonderfully warm and brings the White Nights, nearly 24-hours of sunshine and a party atmosphere. Is it safe to walk around St Petersburg, Russia?

Walking around St Petersburg is no more dangerous than exploring any European city if you are sensible with your belongings and use common sense. The city centre rarely feels isolated as it is quite compact, and many bars and restaurants are open 24/7. During White Nights there are nearly 24 hours of sunlight, meaning that you’ll never venture anywhere in the dark. Do they speak English in St. Petersburg?

St Petersburg is Russia’s most western-leaning city and staff in city centre restaurants, hotels, shops and attractions can generally accommodate English speaking tourists. There are also English-speaking tourist police. The metro and bus service maps have English translations, and intercom announcements are also made in English. If you’d prefer to travel by taxi, the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber) works in multiple languages, although it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. Younger Russians are more likely to speak basic English than older Russians, but Google Translate is useful if you get completely stuck.
