Dodge CHALLENGER Refrigerant Capacity and Refrigerant Oil Type

On late model years, Dodge has used both R-134 A and R-1234YF refrigerants. Unfortunately, the sources I use don’t always list the oil type and oil capacity; instead, they refer me to the underhood label. Make sure you follow the oil type and capacity on the underhood label.

Warning about topping off with an R-1234yf system with R-134a refrigerant

I’m aware that some DIYers are recharging their R-1234yf systems with our R-134a to save money. R-1234yf refrigerant is much more expensive than R-134a, currently costing about $130 for a 14-oz can of AC Pro (2024 prices).

Even though it is technically possible to add R-134a refrigerant to top off an R-1234yf system using adapter fittings, I do not recommend doing this. Here’s why:

1) It’s illegal to recharge or convert an R-1234yf system with anything other than R-1234yf.

2) R-1234yf systems use a different expansion valve, and many also incorporate an internal heat exchanger. If you top off or convert your R-1234yf system with R-134a, you’ll get an improper flow rate through the expansion valve. That’ll  cause a higher than expected suction line pressure that’ll negatively affect a pressure controlled, variable output compressor. A variable output compressor varies pressure and volume output based on incoming refrigerant pressure. So, you’ll get less cooling than if you had used the correct refrigerant.

3) Many R-1234yf systems control evaporator freeze protection using a pressure sensor. If you top off with R-134a or convert the system to R-134a, the higher pressure setting for the evaportor will cause outlet temperture to be at least 4° warmer than R-1234yf.

4) If you have a dual evaporator system (passenger/driver or front/rear), the incorrect flow rate can cause oil trapping in the second evaporator.

5) Topping off an R-1234yf system with R-134a will also affect the evaportor freeze-up pressure sensor, causing more frequent evaportor freeze-up and reduced airflow

In other words, a top off or conversion with R-134a refrigerant will never work properly on a system designed for R-1234yf refrigerant.

From 1995 to 2017, Dodge’s refrigerant of choice R-134a. During this time period, Polyalkylene Glycol (PAG) oil was used as the refrigerant oil to lubricate the A/C system components.

In 2018, Dodge transitioned to using the more modern R-1234yf refrigerant. This refrigerant has a lower global warming potential than R-134a and meets the latest environmental regulations. With the switch to R-1234yf, a new refrigerant oil called ND-12 (a type of Polyolester oil) was also introduced.

It’s important to note that these different refrigerants and oils are not compatible with each other. If you need to recharge or service the A/C system in your Dodge Ram, make sure to use the correct refrigerant and oil specified for your vehicle’s year and model. Using the wrong refrigerant or oil can cause damage to the A/C system and lead to costly repairs.

Replacing engine oil in your 2011 Dodge Journey is quite an easy task. It's a bit dirty, but everyone can handle it. It will take about 30 – 60 minutes depends on your skill level and might save you $10 – $30 depends on the region you live in.

First unscrew the refill cap on the top of the engine. Use a ratchet with the correct size head to unscrew the drain plug on the engine oil pan located on the bottom side of the engine, and drain old oil. You might need to unscrew a few more screws to remove protection covers underneath your car to get access to the oil pan and the oil filter. Then using an oil filter wrench unscrew the old oil filter. Then lubricate a new filter rubber gasket with clean engine oil and install the new filter. Install a new drain plug, and with help of a funnel refill the engine with new engine oil.

Please be noted that all capacities listed here are approximate. Check fluid levels when adding or refilling as recommended in your 2011 Dodge Journey user's manual. Keep in mind that all information here is provided “as is” without any warranty of any kind.

very satisfied so far, speedy service and customer friendly, This is my 3rd one in the past year, the last 2 were purchased from a Florida re-builder and both times they failed within 3 months. there prices were higher and there turn around time between 6 to 9 weeks.

A local shop wanted to charge me $4,500 to install a new TIPM, I removed mine and sent it in to Module Masters. They repaired it and had it back to me in a week and I was able to install it and get back on the road!

After reinstalling my Module Master rebuilt TIPM, everything electrical is working correctly!! Thanks so much for a quality job!

I-864 using assets (DCF Moscow)

Has anyone tried to use only assets to meet the requirements for the I-864 in Moscow?

I am a student and therefore have no income. My dad is the joint sponsor. The problem is that he was just laid off (in January). Before that, his salary was much more than what was required for the I-864 (about 4 times more). So we decided to use assets (5X 125% of what is required). The assets include 401k, stock, and his investment portfolio. All of them can be converted to cash in less than a year. He is still receiving severance from his previous job, as well as actively searching for a new one. His tax returns for the last three years show a high, stable income.

Also, he used my mom's income as a household member. She does not make enough to meet the requirement, but at least this will show that she currently has a job.

So we have included proof of all assets, the last three pay stubs from his job, severance pay stubs, my mom's information, and an explanatory note explaining that he is using assets since he just lost his job due to the economic crisis.

It seems that, in theory, we have met the criteria for the I-864, but I understand that using only assets is tricky and doesn't always work.

How good/bad are our chances? This was quite unfortunate and came as a shock for all of us. Of course it would be best to find another sponsor, but so far I haven't been able to.

Any thoughts?

December 1, 2008 filed the I-130 through DCF at the Embassy in Moscow!

January 13, 2009 called the consulate and found out that I-130 was approved on December 22!! But still waiting for the letter in the mail

January 20, 2009 received an e-mail from the consulate that the interview is scheduled for Feb. 20th at 8AM!

January 24, 2009 received packets 3 & 4 and confirmation letter in the mail!

February 12, 2009 medical passed!

February 20, 2009 interview scheduled, but had to reschedule due to a wounded finger

March 6, 2009 new interview date---passed!!!

March 12, 2009 visa received

August 9, 2009 he arrived! (through JFK) Received IR-1 and now we're done for another three years!

August 31, 2009 permanent green card arrived

July 16, 2012 sent in N-400 for U.S. citizenship

July 23, 2012 NOA

August 10, 2012 biometrics appt.

October 5, 2012 citizenship interview (approved!)

December 7, 2012 oath ceremony. We're done!

I have the same question, and no one has replied to me yet on Visa Journey! So please let me know what you find out. Also, I was just researching online, and on the USCIS website, there is nothing which prohibits completely replacing the income with Assets = to 5x. But other website seems to say it is tricky.

I wonder if this is the type of question you could email the consulate about? I'm considering doing that. What do people think about doing that??

i actually inquired about this to the denmark embassy last week. My mother has income, but we only wanted to use her assets so I asked if she should list the income in addition to the assets if we were not using them to qualify. they said no, just list the assets and that should be sufficient. I thought assets had to be 3 times if they were a USC and 5 times if it was belonging to the immigrant?

Well, at least we have some hope! But there should be some people out there who have actually gone through this---anyone?

In terms of 3 times vs. 5 times, I believe that 3 times is enough if it is the spouse's assets, but if it's the joint sponsor's, it should be 5 times. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

24 Feb 2007 - Sent I-130 to London USCIS office (I'm the petitioner)

25 May 2007 - NOA2

2 June 2007 - Received Packet 3

12 Oct 2007 - Sent Packet 3 back by special delivery

5 Nov 2007 - Interview in London - Approved without any hitches!

*Note: Any delays in our case are only due to us taking things slowly

• 4 weeks later...

An update for those of you in a similar situation:

My husband's interview was today and he was approved!

They accepted the co-sponsor's paperwork, which included the assets I described above, a letter explaining his situation, the last three pay stubs from his last job, and his last three severance pay stubs.

They didn't question anything. I think this is because we were well prepared, everything was well documented, and they could see that the co-sponsor, before losing his job, had a high, stable income.

Anyway, good luck to the rest of you using assets!

Did you have to provide tax returns for the co-sponsor? my mother is using assets only as a co-sponsor, and I don't want to use her tax returns unless we have to.

Yes, tax returns are a requirement for the I-864, which the co-sponsor also has to fill out.
