Learn more about England

Local culture.

The culture of England might appear to be much the same as Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. But ask folk from each of these countries and they’ll tell you a different story. Sure, there are many similarities, but England has a unique culture that differs from its neighbors.

For a start, English culture is extremely diverse with many sub-cultures, dialects, accents and traditions. In fact, there are some pretty stark differences between the north and the south. Northerners are known for their warmth and friendliness, things generally tend to be more expensive in the south, and gravy (which is welcomed on everything in the north) isn't a massive thing down south. That being said, some common cultural ground people share across England include good manners, small talk about the weather and humor that verges on the sarcastic side.

Food and drink

England (and the UK in general) is very multicultural and you’ll find every cuisine from Indian to Lebanese to American. London in particular is a thriving hotspot for foodies with pop-up food villages, quirky converted eateries and over 60 Michelin-stared restaurants. The term “meat and three veg” was coined in England, and while English cuisine doesn’t have a global reputation like French or Italian, the food is simple, hearty and comforting. If you’re looking to try some classic English food, here are some dishes to try.

Fish and chips

A flaky piece of battered fish served on a mound of salty chips, lashings of vinegar and a side of mushy peas. This is as English as it gets. Up north they smother their chips in thick brown gravy or curry sauce. Other popular condiments include tartare sauce and pickled onions or eggs. You’ll find the best fish and chips by the coast in places like Blackpool, Devon or Cornwall.

Bangers and mash

A ‘banger’ is a sausage in the UK. Why? Well, after WWI when food was still rationed, sausages were plumped up with so much fat that they exploded when cooked. ‘Mash’ refers to creamy mashed potato traditionally made with butter and milk. Et voila, you have bangers and mash - one of Britain’s most beloved dinners. Served with peas and lashings of onion gravy, it’s a hearty and filling dish that goes down particularly well on a cold winter’s night.

Sunday roast

Ask an English person what they think is the most loved national dish, and they’ll probably say a Sunday roast. This age-old tradition isn’t just a lunch eaten on Sunday afternoons, but an opportunity for the whole family or group of friends to spend quality time and enjoy a nice meal together. It’s essentially a centerpiece of roasted meat (usually chicken, beef, pork or lamb) served with crispy roast potatoes, seasonal roasted vegetables and lashings of gravy. It might also be served with a Yorkshire pudding depending on where you are. It's usually served with mint sauce (for lamb), horseradish sauce (for beef), or bread sauce and redcurrant jelly (for chicken). You can get a roast dinner in most pubs every Sunday.

Full English breakfast

Also known as a fry up, this hearty breakfast consists of eggs (usually fried but you can also get scrambled or poached), bacon, sausage, baked beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms and hot buttered toast. It’s typically served with a mug of tea or coffee. The carb and fat-rich foods also make it a go-to hangover cure for many Brits, and cafes usually serve it as an all-day dish. You’ll find slightly different versions of a fry up in Cornwall, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Festivals and events

Glastonbury Music Festival

Glastonbury is the crown jewel of the British music festival calendar. This five-day festival draws in about 200,000 people and is the size of 500 football pitches. You’ll find everything from world-class music acts, rising stars, comedy, dance, wellness villages, permaculture workshops, cabaret, secret bars, circus and so much more. It’s an eclectic, vibrant, random and truly wonderful festival – even when it’s pouring with rain.

Notting Hill Carnival

The Notting Hill Carnival is a vibrant Caribbean festival that takes place every August on the streets of Notting Hill in Kensington, London. The streets come alive with sound systems, DJs, live steel bands, costumed dancers, Caribbean flavors and smells, and spirited party goers. Thousands of people join the streets to enjoy the carnival vibes and party late into the night. Stemming from the Trinidad Carnival, Notting Hill Carnival began in 1966 and has remained a key part of London’s festival calendar.

World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD)

WOMAD is a gathering of 40,000 people at a beautiful site in Charlton Park to celebrate music, art, dance and culture from around the world. Spend your days exploring different music stages and grooving in the sunshine (or rain!), take part in one of the 80+ workshops, travel around the globe vicariously through your tastebuds at the food village, or perch yourself on the ground with a cold drink to simply take it all in.

Diwali in Leicester

Diwali – the Indian festival of lights that is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains – in Leicester is one of the world’s biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India. People travel from all over the UK and beyond to see the “Golden Mile” – illuminated temples and firework displays that symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, evil over light and knowledge over ignorance. The cultural program in Leicester includes music, dance, fire performers, religious ceremonies, delicious street food and funfair rides.

Chelsea Flower Show

Stop off in London for breathtaking floral displays of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Established in 1912, the Chelsea Flower Show is an exhibition of show gardens and floral displays set within the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The Chelsea Flower Show is held in May and draws garden-lovers from all over the world.

When is the best time to visit England?

The UK experiences the best weather from June to August, though there’s never any guarantee that summer is full of sunshine and warmth. The crowds might be bigger, but this is because the country wakes up from a dark winter slumber and celebrates – a lot. Outdoor dining is in full swing, pubs and bars are pumping and festivals flood the events calendar. Spring and autumn can be cool and wet but with some sunny days, and the days are still long enough to enjoy the country’s diverse and picturesque scenery. Winter (December to February) brings short days, grey skies and sometimes snow, though this is more often in England’s northern counties or places are higher elevations. Top advice: always have a rain jacket and a brolly at the bottom of your bag.

Everything was as we expected!!!

Ok. The tour guide Guy was excellent.

I don't like getting up so early in the morning, but that was not the fault of anyone we just had to in order to get into some of the venues before the long lineups....

More About London

From treasured landmarks to sipping afternoon tea, there is something for everyone in London. The Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, the giant clock and bell, on the banks of the Thames are the classic backdrop of London, with Westminster Abbey, the site of coronations and royal marriages, standing nearby. Enjoy panoramic views from Tower Bridge and visit the nearby Tower of London, with its rich history and the crown jewels of England. Speaking of royalty, catch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, the residence of the reigning monarchs.

In central London, enjoy Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, the British Museum, and St. Paul’s Cathedral. London also has a splendid array of markets to explore, like Covent Garden or Portobello Road on Notting Hill. And for evening entertainment, enjoy world-renowned theaters and lively clubs in London’s West End. With all this and more, the historic and vibrant European capital of London is an absolute must-see.

The heaviest tourist season runs mid-April through mid-October, with another peak around Christmas—though the tide never really ebbs. Spring is the time to see the countryside and the royal London parks and gardens at their freshest; fall to enjoy near-ideal exploring conditions. In late summer, be warned: air-conditioning is rarely found in places other than department stores, modern restaurants, hotels, and cinemas in London, and in a hot summer you'll swelter. Winter can be rather dismal, but all the theatres, concerts, and exhibitions go full speed.

It's virtually impossible to forecast London weather, but you can be fairly certain that it will not be what you expect. It's generally mild—with some savage exceptions, especially in summer. In short, be prepared for anything: layers and an umbrella are your friends.

This was a truly special experience. I knew I wanted to travel through Isle of Sky, Loch Ness and the highlands in general but as a first time solo female traveler, I didn't want to deal with the logistics of getting places, but I also didn't want to take day tours with a bunch of old people. MacBackPackers seemed like the perfect fit - I would be able to hike unlike a typical tour, and meet people my age and experience Scotland through a less corporate lens. I.e., staying at hostels and going through the highlands at a slower, more intimate pace. I wish I did a longer tour!
It was an amazing trip. Met with backpackers like me and filled with loads of memories Special shout out to Tim who made it more special by taking care of everyone and his knowledge about the places.

Cool sites and informative.
Chris was great! Very entertaining! The itinerary was great! Got to see a whole lot of Scotland in 5 days. Except for Inverness, the lodging left a lot to be desired. Oban didn’t have a working shower, and Skye left a bowl of cereal bars and called that breakfast. All were at least 1/2 mile away from food. There were a lot of unforeseen issues on this trip. The ferry caught fire so we had to drive to Skye, and the restaurants were closing by the time we got there. We also had to change buses two times due to company-wide equipment issues!!!

Loved the trip. The tour guide was terrific and the hotels were first rate.
The trip was quite fun for the most part, but the schedule was very tight and left very little time for eating, sleeping, and taking in the sights around Scotland.

Really want to comment on the last leg of our tour, which was Ireland. Our guide was exceptional, extremely knowledgeable on Irish history recent and past. Genuinely interested in what the travellers were interested in and what they wanted to get out of their experience. In addition he demonstrated accountability and a duty of care to all aspects of the trip. Can not thank him enough and could not thank him enough. Thanks to Jose.
I appreciate having the information of the tour that can be found in My Trip, especially the detailed itinerary with time, list of hotels and the visa letter. Our guide, Raquel, was great I liked very much how she managed our tour. I also liked how she managed other passengers who always come late during meeting time before the bus leaves. I appreciate very much that the bus has usb charger. The things I did not like was that our bus temperature was too hot during our trip from London to Cambridge, it caused me headache. Me, together with most of the passengers were complaining and wanted to change bus instead of us having to endure that kind of temperature for the entire trip. Maybe the driver do not yet know how to operate the temperature controls, since I heard he has just received his license? Good thing it was resolved later in that day. There was an instance that i felt our driver, Justin, have been rude to me during our Day 4 tour in Edinburgh. He raised his voice to me when he saw me carrying my tripod while entering the bus. Maybe because my tripod was unfolded that time around 1.2-meter long when unfolded He scolded that I should have put it in the bus compartment, together with the luggages. My tripod was unfolded because I was running from outside, going into the bus because of sudden heavy snow/rain. Of course I did not have time to fold my tripod and put it inside my carrying bag because I was in a rush and was already getting drenched. I always carry my tripod inside the bus in all of my trips, and that was the first time that I was scolded for bringing a tripod in a bus, and I believe that bringing tripod inside the bus is not prohibited, as long as it does not bother other passengers or case safety hazard/issues. Please educate me if it really is prohibited. If it is not, please educate Justin. Despite those two incidents, I am overall happy with the trip. I will avail another trips with Europamundo in the future, and will recommend Europamundo to others.

The only let down was when the coach left the tour, and taxis and trains with the luggage was a struggle. Hotel selection, excursions, and guide were all first class. Had a very uncomfortable trip up to Glasgow, coach had no cooling, arrived ridiculously late, no arrangements regarding food, from time of meeting at 16.30 until breakfast the next morning.
Our tour guide, Tony Walker, was excellent. Since this was a first for this itinerary, there were a lot of travel issues and Tony was great at solving them. Culture Tours need to acknowledge how good a tour guide and leader he was for them. Here are my comments, in no special order. - More trip details as very vague in the itinerary, i.e. daily timetables for stops - Timely receipt of changes to original schedule of events - Notification of roommate and contact info when sharing room (prior to trip start) - Daily events need to be better scheduled. Too many crammed into some days causing early starts and late day endings. - Long distances to each night's stop causing long days on coach and trains - More centrally located hotels with dining options nearby. - Disliked hotel in Inverness. Staff almost rude and not helpful when we wanted a cab. Way too far from the city center. No amenities in the room - i.e. soap, shampoo, lotions, etc. - Name tags for tour members

My Mom and I absolutely loved this tour! Our tour guide Alex was so kind and thoughtful. He took very good care of us! Our bus driver Craig was also amazing. My Mom is 88 and Craig was so good to make sure she got down the bus stairs safely! Scotland and England are beautiful countries filled with rich history!
The tour with the sites that we visited was great. Alison, out tour director, was wonderful, very knowledgeable. Arthur, our bus driver was also great. Our one day tour guide and bus driver, Ann, was also great. I was not so impressed with the breakfast menu of cooked food. It was the same at every hotel. They need to change up the menu.

Wonderful trip! Everything was taken care of, all we had to do was enjoy! Greg and Ivor were amazing!
Greg was a pleasure as a tour guide. Very prepared and open to questions. He took extra time before each stop to individually ask if we had questions. Always a smiling face and positive attitude. He made us all feel that he really cared about our having an enjoyable stress free trip. Most importantly he kept everyone on time for departures seamlessly. Would love to have him again. He truly added a lot of personal touches along the way.

Our tour guide, Ryan, was outstanding! He immediately put us at ease with his friendly and personable manner. His knowledge of the complicated roads and history of the areas we visited gave us the safety we needed to deeply enjoy the beautiful landscapes and fascinating history Scotland has. Thank you for the perfect vacation!
The Spirit of Outlander tour was great! This tour is geared for Outlander fans but you don't have to be a fan to enjoy all the locations visited. Our tour guide, Paul, was fantastic! His knowledge, enthusiasm, and professionalism was 5-star! It was very exciting to visit the filming sites of Outlander and to be walking in the footsteps of the actors! There were a variety of locations to visit daily from castles to churches and gardens. There were also unscheduled photo stops to capture the scenic beauty on the way to visiting various locations. My husband and I waited over 2 years to take this trip (due to Covid) and it was worth the wait! The hotels were top notch and the meals provided were good! A thoroughly exciting trip!

G Adventures

Tour guide and bus driver were both excellent. Starting hotel was terrible and no where near the main area of Edinburgh. Breakfast there was a granola bar, croissant in a plastic wrap, a yogurt, and a juice box. Our hotel room in Inverness had a leaky ceiling which we reported to the front desk right away. They said they sent maintenance to fix the issue, but that evening it was leaking again. G Adventures itinerary is not reflective of the actual tour and for many extra activities listed there was no time to do them even if we had wanted to. Isle of Skye was a real highlight along with Inverness. We only received our tour vouchers the night before we left Canada and we had to call to get it. We will not consider G Adventures for any of our future travel needs.
This was my second G Adventures tour and it proved to be as enjoyable as the first one, which was the main reason my wife and I booked it. The small size of the tour group and the variety of people made it all the better. The tour offered a good balance between structured visits of major attractions and free time to explore on our own. I would not hesitate to recommend a G Adventures tour to anyone seeking a guided travel experience in the company of other like-minded travelers.

This was a three night Highland and Island tour from Inverness to Orkney, with emphasis on the neolithic Skara Brae - which was fantastic. The tour guide (Marita) was informative and enthusiastic and extremely helpful, and very kindly ensured we got to our various accommodations. It was a 16 seater minibus, and was comfortable and driven by Marita very safely and competently. I would recommend this tour and have already done so. Very enjoyable
We had amazing 3 days tour and enjoyed so much ! Only the weather was not on our side as it was raining and windy. Our guide Paul Santa was so friendly, fun and interactive!! We were all keen on seeing the Highland cows and really appreciate Paul for taking us to a farm so we could see them. Looking forward to more trips in the future!

All but one of the hotels were anything but subpar. rooms were ancient and just plain ratty. We asked to upgrade our car to a larger one because we had golf clubs, and they wanted to charge an additional $1,400 on top of what we already paid. We rented another vehicle from Hertz for $750 for the whole trip and they included insurance. TourRadar refused to give us credit for the car they rented. You are better off renting your hotel and car and you will have a much better vacation. The hotel in Edinburg was a flat-out dive! The worst I have ever been in.
Great experience and a thorough and comprehensive trip to highlight the many facets of Scotland's long and storied history. The country was pretty easy to navigate and my family of four enjoyed the freedom of being able to pick and choose the experiences we sought. I must say the rural road of 20 miles to Cally Bridge was a bit of a white knuckler. Overall wonderful trip and I'd recommend it to anyone who is not interested in traveling in a large group by bus.

What is the UK’s new ETA travel scheme with a £10 charge – and what does it mean for visitors?

T he UK’s new Electronic Travel Authorisation ( ETA ) scheme will apply to the vast majority of overseas arrivals – even those merely changing planes – by 2 April 2025.

The new government says: “Everyone wishing to travel to the UK – except British and Irish citizens – will need permission to travel in advance of coming here. This can be either through an Electronic Travel Authorisation or an eVisa.”

The ETA costs £10 and is valid for multiple entries to the UK over the course of two years or until the traveller’s passport expires, whichever is sooner; the eVisa is used by a minority of travellers who do not qualify for “visa-free” status.

Ministers say rolling out the scheme worldwide will “prevent abuse of our immigration system”.

The ETA will be needed even for those who are “airside” at Heathrow for a short time between international flights.

For British travellers, there should be no direct impact. But travel industry figures say rules attached to the ETA will disadvantage UK airlines and tourism.

These are the key questions and answers.

What is planned?

Most visitors to the UK need not go through the complex and expensive business of applying for a British visa; they simply turn up with their passport and apply for entry.

But that is all changing with the new online permit. The Electronic Travel Authorisation will be mandatory for all “non-visa” overseas visitors to the UK – except for Irish nationals, who are allowed free movement under the Common Travel Agreement .

The starting point of the journey to the UK is not relevant – it is the traveller’s nationality that counts.

The ETA is loosely modelled on the US Esta and is electronically linked to the traveller’s passport. The cost is £10. The permit will be valid for repeated journeys within two years or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner.

When is it happening?

The roll-out began with Qatari nationals travelling to or via the UK on 15 November 2023. On 22 February 2024 the programme was extended to nationals of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Jordan was later removed from the pilot scheme, for reasons that are unclear.

Non-Europeans will need the permit to travel from 8 January 2025, with the ETA mandatory for European arrivals from 2 April 2025.

How do travellers obtain an ETA?

Online through a UK government website or via the app (search for “UK ETA” on the Apple app store or Google Play).

You need to supply a photograph and answer a set of questions. The government says: “This will ensure we have information on those seeking to come to the UK helping to prevent dangerous individuals, such as criminals, entering the UK.”

A decision on each case is expected “usually” within three days. In practice, existing similar schemes in the US, Canada and elsewhere deliver approval more quickly.

Commercial sites that are designed to tempt applicants to pay additional fees have already appeared, such as etauk.uk, which is based in Spain and has no connection with the UK government.

Who will check the ETA?

For the majority of travellers, airlines and ferry companies will be expected to verify the ETA status before the passenger boards a flight or ship to the UK. They will be penalised if they fail to check.

The government says: “Where an inadequately documented arrival (IDA) is brought to the UK, the carrier may be liable for a fine of up to £2,000.”

Ferries from France to Dover, Eurostar trains to London and Eurotunnel shuttles to Folkestone have “juxtaposed controls” and UK Border Force staff will check the permit while the traveller is in Continental Europe.

On arrival, UK Border Force will check the ETA and ask supplementary questions before deciding whether or not to allow the traveller in. The government says: “An ETA does not guarantee entry to the UK.”

Non-Irish and British travellers from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland will not face checks.

What about transit passengers?

The UK government has decided to become an outlier by insisting that all connecting travellers must obtain an ETA . This will make London Heathrow airport a more challenging transit hub than the main continental European competitors, plus airports such as Istanbul and Dubai.

The almost-worldwide convention is that passengers who are connecting from one gate to another at a hub – not passing through passport control – need only meet the requirements for their final destination.

But when the ETA scheme takes full effect next April, all passengers except British and Irish nationals will need a permit – even if they are simply switching from one British Airways plane to another at Heathrow Terminal 5, or making a connection between Star Alliance airlines at the airport’s Terminal 2.

Travel industry experts predict overseas travellers with a choice of routings will switch to other hubs to avoid extra red tape and cost – harming Heathrow and leading to a slump in customers for British Airways and Virgin Atlantic .

About 30 per cent of passengers at Heathrow are in transit.

Paul Charles, director of The PC Agency and former Virgin Atlantic communications director, said: “Taxing transit is tantamount to failure. If other airports offer free transit then they will pick up market share.

“Airports should be zones of ease, enabling seamless travel. This proposed tax needs removing.”

Rob Burgess, editor of the frequent flyer website Head for Points, says: “Why would anyone pay £40 for a family of four to get an ETA purely so they can transit in the UK on the way from, say, the US to Croatia? All of the other European hub carriers will be laughing as they pick up this business.”

A Heathrow spokesperson said: “We don’t disagree with the long-term roll-out of the scheme, but including airside transit passengers will make the UK less competitive and harm economic growth.

“We want to work in partnership with Home Office ministers over the next few months to address this issue, and learn from the lessons of the countries trialled, where we’ve seen the loss of a significant number of transfer passengers already.”

What does the government say?

The minister for Migration and Citizenship, Seema Malhotra, said: “Digitisation enables a smooth experience for the millions of people who pass through the border every year, including the visitors we warmly welcome to the UK who are predicted to contribute over £32bn to our tourism economy this year.

“The worldwide expansion of the ETA demonstrates our commitment to enhance security through new technology and embedding a modern immigration system.”

Government online information about the new scheme says: “Requiring those transiting to obtain an ETA will stop transit being a future loophole for people to use to avoid needing an ETA. This is in line with the US Esta scheme.”

If I’m changing planes in the US I need an Esta…

There is a crucial difference: all passengers in transit through the United States are required to clear Customs & Border Protection and be legally admitted to the US. In theory they could decide, instead of transferring at Atlanta, Chicago or Houston, to stay in America for up to three months.

This policy does not apply at Heathrow (or elsewhere in Europe) for international-to-international journeys. UK Border Force will not check passengers on arrival at Heathrow if they are continuing their journey internationally.

Furthermore, few US airports rely on transit passengers for business in the way that Heathrow does.

Besides the potential financial damage to airlines and Heathrow airport, the government decision could also impact British passengers. A number of routes and frequencies are viable only because of the volume of connecting passengers. If services are cut, choice will reduce and fares could rise.

We had a better trip than we could have imagined!! The planning process with Zicasso's travel partner was so easy, and after just a few conversations, we were able to get everything booked. The hotels and activities planned for us were absolutely perfect. The app with our day-by-day itinerary and train tickets made everything so easy and stress free. I would recommend booking with our travel agency 10/10, and we will be doing so again! I really believe they connected us with local guides who were better than we would have known how to find on our own. The most kind, genuine, friendly, and knowledgeable people took us on our guided tours in the Loire Valley and Champagne region. I can't recommend their services enough!

The Zicasso tour company did a nice job planning out the trip and had a person available on WhatsApp until 7pm each day if there were any questions. They were responsive and handled things. There was a little bit of confusion with the guides about what was included and already paid for on a particular day tour, but it was cleared up when we contacted the agency. It happened a few times, so I am not sure if it was a mistake on the driver's or the agency’s part. When it comes to flights, I understand that erring on the side of caution is good, but having us get to the airport three hours early was overkill. At Inverness airport, they wouldn't even let us check in at Logan Air until two hours before the flight. When we flew out of Shannon at the end, we insisted they change the pick-up for the airport so we would get there two hours beforehand, which was plenty of time. I don't fault the company for this, but it may be good for them to consider not having their clients arrive too early at the airports unless the clients prefer that. All that being said, I would use this travel agency again and appreciated the itinerary they put together, the friendly guides for our daily excursions, and their responsiveness when we reached out to them.

The Zicasso travel agent listened very well to what we were looking for and matched our wants/personalities perfectly. I had very specific things I was looking for on this trip and she worked with me to figure out every request. Some activities included typical holiday travel (like tours of castles or museums), while others were not quite typical (like a one-day guided motorcycle tour with all riding gear). She found guides for us who took us where we wanted to go and matched our personalities. They were knowledgeable and laidback, and gave us time to relax (not rush) and enjoy the activities. Our trip was a full two weeks at all types of hotels (some I found on my own and some she suggested) and with multiple types of transportation and activities. Our agent and her team were very responsive and accommodating. Upon arrival, we received a folio with a full itinerary and tickets, separated by tour and travel. When I realized we had a potential issue with travel on a day at the end of the trip, they took care of it within a few hours. When I had a question on tipping our guides, I texted and received an answer in minutes. I also received an email after being asked for feedback to help them with future requests. I will use them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend them!!!

Zicasso’s tour operator was nothing short of exceptional to work with. From the early stages of planning, communication was seamless. The lovely travel planner helped plan the most magical trip. Every accommodation was out of this world, the meals were amazing, and the itinerary was outstanding. We traveled with two babies and they helped plan a wonderful, magical trip. We enjoyed Scotland so much and are looking forward to traveling there again with the same travel company! They even planned a sweet surprise for my four-year-old’s birthday that was so special for her. We were just so pleased with everything.

Our Zicasso travel guide did a wonderful job of creating an itinerary for first-time visitors to Scotland. She was very responsive to the different interests of our group and communication was always speedy. We started our tour in Edinburgh with a fantastic Blue Badge guide who stayed with us for an entire day, then on to the Isle of Skye and the beautiful scenery there, finishing up in Inverness and back to Edinburgh.

Zicasso's travel partner gave us a fantastic 10-day tour of Scotland for two people. Zicasso matched us up with another fine, in-country travel agency! I lived in Scotland during the ’90s and wanted to show my wife what a beautiful and historic place it is. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about Scotland's culture and Scottish history. Wherever we went she had a story or comment on historical and current events. I learned more in the 10 days we were on tour with our travel agency than I learned in the two years I lived in Scotland. In addition, we were interested in orienting the tour around photography as I am an amateur photographer with pro-grade equipment. Our guide was very knowledgeable about photography and helped us achieve our goal of taking beautiful pictures everywhere we went. In summary, we highly recommend our tour operator.

My sister and I had a wonderful trip! We used Zicasso's travel agent to plan it. From the beginning, all our questions were answered and they offered suggestions along the way. Everything was planned out for us, including private and small group tours. Transportation, if needed, was all arranged. Directions and maps were provided, if needed, along with any tickets for trains and tours. All our hotels were conveniently located and we were within walking distance from restaurants, shops, and metro systems. We really appreciated that. I highly recommend this travel company and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. I can’t thank them enough for planning our trip, which has provided so many lasting and priceless memories!

Our anniversary trip to Scotland and Ireland, planned by Zicasso’s travel company, was unforgettable! Our travel agent was very easy to work with! She made several adjustments to our itinerary at our request and also to address some of the vendor's changes, such as one of our flights (originally from Inverness to Dublin) and one of our "in a local home, dinner and cooking lessons" (originally in Scotland). She was cognizant of my budget constraints and suggested I do some of the driving myself to reduce the cost of private drivers. Then, during our trip, little things like a wine and cheese board in our room upon our arrival in Edinburgh were very much appreciated! Also, when things didn't go as planned (flight delay from Aberdeen to Dublin), she was available (at 2am Pacific time) to help smooth out the bumps! Even the way our trip itinerary built up to a subtle crescendo with our stay in a castle made this a trip we will never forget!
