Bargain Hunt's Irita Marriott reveals life off camera from family to guilty pleasures

Bargain Hunt expert Irita Marriott is known for her passion for antiques

The much-loved Bargain Hunt is set to make a comeback on BBC One, with the talented Irita Marriott joining the amateur teams as their go-to expert. Viewers might also recognise her for her appearances on Antiques Road Trip.

Off-screen, Irita is a renowned success in the business world, having launched her own auctioneer and valuation company in June 2023 that boasts its status as a female-led enterprise within the UK.

With a background as an accomplished working mum with over a decade in the industry, she took the entrepreneurial leap to open her very own auction house situated in the charming market town of Melbourne, Derbyshire. Speaking proudly of her venture, she explained: "I want to continue to unite people with beautiful objects but make it easy for them to do so by buying online at Irita Marriott Auctioneers."

Regarding her role on Bargain Hunt, while she relishes the thrill of hitting the road, she concedes that she longs for family time, stating: "Life on the road has two sides - one of excitement seeing new people and places, having adventures, and one of simply being away from home, missing my loved ones and lots of commuting," Nonetheless, she finds solace in the experiences gained, adding, "But when you look at it as a whole it's an incredible opportunity to build memories - and I sure love that."

Reflecting on her journey into the antiques trade, Irita shared that her career choice initially felt like being "dropped in the deep end" following her early days at a garden centre.

The Bargain Hunt expert shared her journey from seller to specialist on the show. She reminisced: "I actually appeared as a seller on Bargain Hunt quite a few times in my early dealing career."

She further revealed: "Then one day, many years later, I was approached to be an expert and of course I had to say yes." When it comes to personal time, the star cherishes moments with her family, regularly taking her two sons to antiques fairs.

She spoke about her leisure activities, saying: "Hunting for antiques with my two boys in tow." Her enthusiasm is palpable as she said: "They are developing a love for it and I love watching the excitement of them finding things and learning about them."

The TV personality opened up about her holiday preferences, sharing that she has a soft spot for cruises, stating they are "the best kind of holiday there is". Expanding on the appeal of cruising holidays, she noted: "You can stay in the same room for weeks, yet you wake up in a different city each day. It's a win-win for me, and the food on there isn't bad either."

Although active on Instagram, she mainly uses the platform for professional updates and content related to her BBC colleagues, opting to keep her private life more discreet. Bargain Hunt airs on weekdays on BBC One at 12.15pm
