Polarized 3d glasses

These are either linear or circular polarized unless otherwise noted.  Linear polarized 3D glasses will work with all the old stereo projectors, StereoJet prints, and home projector systems with linear polarizers attached.  Circular polarized 3D glasses are specifically for the  3-D digital projection systems.  If in doubt check your owner's manual.

Polarized Cardboard

Polarized plastic theme park style.

Heavy duty plastic polarized plastic.  Perfect for 3D viewing of projected stereo movies or images.  Fits over even the most bulky glasses. Polarized lenses specially cut at opposing 45 degree angles. For viewing stereo pairs projected through left and right polarizing filters. These are used in Imax theatres and most stereo applications.  For Real D Cinemas please use our circular polarized glasses . For other orientations please contact us .

Jumbo Theme Park

Similar to the above theme park glasses but larger for total immersion such as for viewing Imax projection.  Also for fitting over very large glasses (Elton John may have to use these). These are linear polarized.

Linear "Real D" Style

These glasses look like the Real D glasses used in cinema's throughout the world but instead of being circular polarized are linear at 45/135 orientation. For circular polarized RealD glasses click here .

3D Polarized Aviator Style (Now in Tortoise -Shell!)

These stylish polarized glasses have Polarized lenses specially cut at opposing 45 degree angles.   The lenses are molded and of better quality than the theme park Style.  They have folding temples for easy storage.  For viewing stereo pairs projected through left and right polarizing filters.  These work with all the older stereo projectors from the 1950s (TDC, Triad...) and twin stereo projectors fitted with our polarized filters.  Also available in circular (see below).

Terminator 3D glasses

I'll be back... with these new "terminator" wrap-around style 3D glasses.  These have high style and tell people you are serious about your 3D!  Limited quantities are available.  Unlike our other 3D glasses these do not fit easily over prescription glasses.

3D Glasses For Newer Imax Theatres

These are special 3D glasses with linear polarizers are in 0/90 orientation not 45/135.  Most newer Imax 3D Theatres use this orientation but you my want to check with the specific theatre before ordering.  They are larger than most 3D glasses to cover the large Imax screen.  A few  theatres still use 45/135 (standard linear polarized glasses) especially in Europe.

3D Metal Aviator Style

These are the Rolls Royce of 3D glasses.  Spring clips to prevent breakage and metal appointments make these last very long.

3D Polarized Flip-up Clip-ons

Same high quality as above in a clip-on format.  Prevent  your glasses from getting dirty from putting them on top of your head when not in use.  For viewing stereo pairs projected through left and right polarizing filters. These are linear.  For RealD circular see below .

Both these will work with all our linear 3d polarized glasses.  These are 45, -45 degree polarizers. These are heavy duty heavy gauge plastic and will not bend.  Attachment will depend on your projectors (no mounting gear is included).  Be careful not to mount these polarizers too close to your lenses as excessive heat will damage or crack the polarizers.  Projectors vary in heat generation so please monitor when using.  Please cover the entire surface of the filter with the projected light to eliminate hot spots.  Try our filter holder and heat absorbing filters to extend the lifetime of your polarized filters!  Polarizing filters are not returnable.

Polarizer Axis Direction Detector Arrow

We decided to offer the most niche product ever!  This product will help detect the direction of a the linear component of polarized material.  Put it on a projection filter or glasses and slowly rotate.  The axis orientation is indicated when it becomes its darkest.  This is great when trying to detect the orientation of polarized filters and polarized glasses . Actual size is 4 inches long.  For use with circular polarized material it is useful for determining the linear component.

Heat absorbing glass pairs to be used in conjunction with polarizers

These protect your filters from UV and IR heat and greatly increase the lifetime of your polarized filters and protect them from melting.  They are specially matched for use in stereo projection.

ChromaDepth Glasses

Also known as C3D and Holoplay glasses these achieve a 3D effect through the layering of different colors. The ChromaDepth glasses create striking 3D images from normal 2D images by pulling forward the color red to the foreground and sorting the remaining colors according to their position in the rainbow. There are two types of lenses available: Standard ChromaDepth 3-D and High Definition (HD) ChromaDepth 3-D.  Standard lenses are recommended for use with printed images, books, magazines and brochures, while High Definition lenses are suggested for viewing computer graphics, video, TV, film or distance viewing applications.  These are the glasses used for the "I love the 80's! 3D programs on VH-1!

The Short List of Things to Do

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D

dek

To put on 3-D glasses, as cumbersome a visual aid now as they were in the '50s, is already to surrender to cheesiness. This loose take on Jules Verne's novel, with Brendan Fraser as the wayward scientist, is the ideal vehicle for stuff jumping out at you: yo-yos, waterspouts, antennae, dinosaur drool, the works. It's fun for tweens, a sedative for their parents.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D review

The 3D movies are coming, and Brendan Fraser is leading the charge! Rob settles down for a funfair ride and a half...

Believe the hype, and the next few years will see a cavalcade of 3D movies. Leading the charge is this surprisingly low-key (at least in its promotion) adventure with Brendan Fraser. So I grabbed my 3D glasses, and sat back to see what all the fuss is about…

Now I know films in 3D are a gimmick, but it’s a fun gimmick, and as anyone who has ever been to Universal Studios will know, some can be used to great effect to impress an audience. The Terminator ride is one of the best ‘experiences’ there.

This idea of latching onto the ‘experience’ of a film, rather than the film itself, is something that we, as an audience have seen before. The most recent example was the average Beowulf, which was made a whole lot better with Grendel ripping Nordic warriors in half under your nose. And this is really the same tactic that Journey employs. It’s a fairground ride, nothing more, nothing less.

Now granted, to call a film a ride seems harsh, but really this is what it is. Admittedly it isn’t a bad ride, but really all this film provides is a trip on the log-flume without the stagnant water, or a go on ‘Rita Queen of Speed’ without the queuing. And while those expecting a faithful or cerebral adaptation of Jules Verne’s tale will be severely disappointed, everyone else – like the audience sharing the experience with me, who were looking to be entertained by things being poked in your eye or having water spat directly at you from a film – is in for a treat.

Ad – content continues below

Plotwise things are pretty thin. Brendan Frasier plays a geologist whose brother goes missing a decade earlier doing field-work, investigating and probing into hidden ‘tubes’ in the earth. Fraser then picks up his brother’s lifes’ work and then, one day his messy academic life is interrupted by having his nephew staying with him (which involves a dangling and unexplained plot move about a move to Canada). And – coincidence alert – one of his missing brother’s probes activates on the same afternoon. The action then moves to Iceland, where they team up with a very attractive pot-holer/guide/love interest/Lara Croft clone to get to the probe’s readings, and then get caught up in a storm/trapped in a avalanche.

That’s about the plot summed up, and then the actors phone in their parts. I have a lot of time for Brendan Frasier and have over the past decade enjoyed his movies. Airheads was insane and fun, the original Mummy enjoyable and George of the Jungle is at times comedy genius. And while you do get a bit of the goofy action hero, here it’s a bit underplayed and pretty vacant. The same can be said about Josh Hutcherson (who plays the nephew) and Anita Briem who plays Hannah the titular tour guide. But really this film is about the effects, and as such the characters are secondary as the film moves from one set piece to another.

It’s actually nearly halfway through the film before we get to the centre of the earth, which is surprising as you would think that a flick like this would get down to the man eating plants, giant mushrooms and undergrounds monsters straight away. But instead, after a cave-in, we are given a ‘bonus level’ set piece involving a runaway mine train taken straight out of Temple of Doom , only done on the cheap (and with CG). So while Indy’s dilemma seemed real and urgent, this CG-fest really is just an excuse to do a set of POV shots in 3D.

This action set piece over plot and characters sets the tone for the final reel of the film, where the subterranean realm is not really explored or discussed, but merely wandered through with no sense of awe. The team follow a surprisingly intelligent neon coloured hummingbird through the dangers, to find the only and implausible means of escape. With dinosaurs to dodge, magnetic rocks to navigate and a sea full of evil flying fish to bat out of the way, it’s fair to say that the film doesn’t take itself too seriously, with danger just perilous enough to be able to get through without any real danger. And it’s all, of course, a useful excuse to have things fly, poke or generally come out of the screen towards the audience without those inconvenient things like emotions or plot development getting in the way (check out how quickly they skim over the ‘death’ scene and the heating up issues).

But even with a ending that is verging on the plainly stupid, the film still manages to entertain. And even though the movie is packed full if implausible things (Google on a PSP on a plane, a mobile working miles underground), it’s still fun, silly and entertaining and as such does its job. It’s also a ride that you can’t imagine ever working when it gets to DVD or Blu-ray, meaning that the 3D adventure is very much the one to take.

Just got done watching the 3D version and was surprised how good that showed through my JVC-RS1 projector with anamorphic lens on a 2:35 104" screen. Several of the scenes had that pop that I remembered when I saw in 3D at the movies. The down side was the glasses that were uncomfortable and tended to wash out the colors. This could be my eyesight (which I doubt after lasix sx) or the glasses themselves. The audio was also pretty impressive even though it was DD only. The T-rex scene rocked my walls. All in all, it was a fun popcorn movie. I will re-watch it tomorrow with the 2D version to compare the colors vs the 3D version. Mr Ian B

The anaglyph (red/green) method of achieving 3D completely destroys the color values of a film. It's not your eyesight, Ian, it's the technology. Color 3D films are really meant to be shown using polarized lens/glasses, but that can't be emulated in a simple home theater without extra hardware support.

I thought the 3-D effects were good. They popped out alot more in brighter scenes vs darker scenes. Yes, the colors were very muted in the 3-D version.

My wife and I saw this at a theater this past summer. It's a throw away movie and I was not too impressed with the 3D. I will rent it and give a second chance though. I have a question, I have the pair glasses the I had to pay for to see this movie in the theater. Will those glasses work on the home 3D version?

None of this crappy anaglyph stuff. I want real full color 3d built into the blu-ray spec asap. i.e. wireless lcd shutterglasses, or whatever other realistic technology is available now. I heard it will be integrated in 2010, so I will hold off on any 3-D movies until a real full-color 3D spec is available; otherwise the inevitable double dip will rear its head.

Is NETFLIX including the 3-D glasses as part of the rental?

I got the Hanna Montana 3D concert from Netflix but no glasses were included. Fortunately I had some on hand.

In the theater there were only a few scenes that used the 3d well in this movie. Unfortunately thought the movie was awful. It felt like they didn't put any real effort in making this movie, sets, effects etc. The acting with all 3 main characters was horrible.

it's a fun gimmick to see at least one movie with that worked better in some scenes for me than in others the shot with the ruler, the yoyo bits, the mine cart segment, and the scene on the raft with the fish worked the best i'm thinking part of it was my viewing angle and i have glasses so i might not have been getting the best positioning of the 3d glasses

It's too bad about the home release because when I saw it in the theater (with the proper polarized glasses) it was one of the best 3D presentations I had seen in a long time. It was the 3D SFX that made the film for me, since the rest of it was pretty forgettable.

One's red and one's cyan (green/blue). Speaking of color blindness, does anybody else find that when using anaglyph glasses that it screws up your hue balance from eye to eye. Try looking at some grass outside with each eye the next time you've worn the glasses for a while.

  14. Journey Center of the Earth 3-D comments

Shutter glasses playing back 'A Nightmare Before Christmas' on Blu-ray in 3-D. Looked incredible! Anaglyph is just not good enough for today's standards.
