As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jurassic Coast takes its place alongside other natural world sites such as the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef in terms of its outstanding historical significance. Running from Exmouth to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage this unspoiled stretch of coastline reveals a unique geological portrait of 185 million years of the Earth’s history sequentially exposed in dramatic cliffs, secluded caves, coastal stacks and barrier beaches.
The gradient of the rocks forms a journey through time that includes the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods, and the whole stretch of the Site is of enormous visual, educational and research importance.
Our Jurassic Coast Cruise takes in the oldest section of this World Heritage Site, known as the Triassic Era and is famous for its deep red colour. It was opened by HRH King Charles in 2002 and is marked by a Geoneedle at Orcombe Point.
The Geoneedle also sees the start of the Jurassic Coast section of the South West Coast Path. The first leg of the walk gently takes you into the 'East Devon National Landscape' area, before becoming more adventurous on the cliff-top approach to Budleigh Salterton before descending into the beautiful town of Sidmouth, with its boutique shops, botanical gardens, cafes and restaurants.
This stretch of the South West Coast Path is exceptionally popular with visitors due the stunning scenery, and geological and historical importance of the area with many people choosing to stay over and taking a cruise to see the scenery from a complementary perspective.
As we sail along, we will be close to the cliffs to give an incredibly detailed view of the rocks and then sail further out to offer a panoramic perspective for you to see the Site in all its wonder. Tides and weather will determine the specific route of this cruise, often we will sail dramatically close the Sea Stacks at Ladram Bay and occasionally along as far as the regency town of Sidmouth.
The live commentary throughout the cruise from your Skipper covers the changing history and appearance of the area as well as the wildlife and towns that we pass ensuring you get the best experience possible.
As a non-landing cruise, this trip is suitable for manual wheelchair users and persons with reduced mobility and our crew are always available to assist with your requirements throughout. Please check with us first before booking to see if the tides are suitable to board and disembark on and off the same deck.
Lasting between 2 to 3 hours, you will have plenty of time to sit back a relax on board. Sailing on our Pride of Exmouth boat, there is a fully licensed bar on board serving a range of local ales and gin, alongside a choice of hot and cold refreshments and snacks. Our delicious Devon Cream Tea are available to pre-order with this cruise when you book online, so delicious you do not want to miss out.
Pride of Exmouth is a modern vessel but still maintains her traditional features, we pride ourselves on keeping the boats exceptionally clean and well-maintained for all of our trips. As well as a fully licensed bar on board we also have toilet facilities on board.
As this is a sea-going cruise, the sea state can be affected by the weather and the winds. If the weather conditions are unsuitable for a pleasant trip, we reserve the right to cancel or change the course of the route. If we cancel the cruise in these circumstances, we will offer to transfer you to another date or issue you with a refund.
Sailing between April and October, our Jurassic Coast Cruises are undoubtedly the best way to see this stretch of the British coastline.
Is the cruise suitable for Children?
This is a longer cruise of 2-3 hours, we advise for younger children, it is better to book onto our shorter, mini coastal cruise.
Is this trip dog friendly?
Yes! Please see our dog-friendly page to find out more and what we ask in regards to our 4-legged friends joining us on the boat.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
“Awesome as usual, was hoping to show my partner the sea-breakers and Portland harbour, but luckily the sea was choppy there, so done a different route, which turned out better, went out to the old cruiser off Bowleaze cove, and even saw some dolphins, so we went around the cruise ship twice, which made her very happy, so win-win. Everyone on the boat enjoyed it.”
